Fundamental analysts concentrate on measures that have to do with business performance such as sales and net income. Technical analysts, on the other hand, concentrate on patterns in the stock price. If the stock price is going up, it might be a sign that prices will continue to go higher and vice versa.

Technical analysts believe that all known information about the stock is reflected in the price, which is to say price is efficient. Still, past price performance has nothing to do with future price performance, and the actual price of a stock may have nothing to with its real or intrinsic value. Therefore, technical analysts use tools to help sift through the noise to find the highest probability trades. One tool that was developed by a Japanese rice trader named Homma from the town of Sakatar in the 17th century, and it was made popular by Charles Dow in the 1900s: the candlestick chart.

Infosys: Proposed Buyback

Infosys has proposed a Buyback of about 4.92% of its total paid up Equity Share Capital i.e., around 11.30Cr Equity Shares. So, what should be the optimal mix of currency denominations? Many countries have opted to use a near variation of the Renard Series, i.e., 1:2 or 1:2.5 ratio between adjacent denominations of currency, which means that the denomination should be twice or two and half times of its preceding denomination.

Such a ratio allows exchange of value ordinarily in a maximum of three denominations. In India, we have currency denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 2000. As such, in the lower end of the denomination series, 200 is the missing one.

RBI will issue bright yellow-coloured Rs 200 denomination banknotes tomorrow

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will issue bright yellow-coloured Rs 200 denomination banknotes on August 25, the central bank today said.

In a notification, the banking regulator said, new Rs 200 notes will be issued in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, bearing signature of Dr. Urjit R Patel, Governor, Reserve Bank of India from select RBI offices, and some banks.

The new denomination has Motif of Sanchi Stupa (from Madhya Pradesh) on the reverse, depicting the countrys cultural heritage. "The base colour of the note is Bright Yellow, RBI said on its website.

Introduction of a new currency denomination and design is done keeping in consideration various factors like ease of transactions for the common man, replacement of soiled banknotes, inflation and the need for combating counterfeiting, RBI said.

Post demonetisation in November 2016, RBI had introduced new Rs 500 notes and for the first time Rs 2,000 denomination notes. The head and shoulders pattern is believed to be one of the most reliable trend reversal patterns. It is one of several top patterns that signal, with varying degrees of accuracy, that an upward trend is nearing its end.

'Head And Shoulders Pattern'

This pattern is comprised of three component parts:

1. After a long bullish trends, the price rises to a peak and subsequently declines to form a trough.

2. The price rises again to form a second high substantially above the initial peak and declines again.

3. The price rises a third time, but only to the level of the first peak, before declining once more.

The first and third peaks are shoulders, and the second peak forms the head. The line connecting the first and second troughs is called the neckline.

Head and shoulders patterns can also signal that a downward trend is about to reverse into an upward trend. In this case, the stocks price reaches three consecutive lows, separated by temporary rallies. Of these, the second trough is the lowest (the head) and the first and third are slightly shallower (the shoulders). The final rally after the third dip signals that the bearish trend has reversed and prices are likely to keep moving up.

Tug-of-War

Stock prices are the result of a continuous game of tug-of-war; whether a stock's price goes up or down is the direct result of how many people are on each team. Those who believe a stock's price will go up are called bulls, and those who believe the stock will go down are called bears. If more of a stock's shareholders are bears, then its price will go down as they sell their shares to avoid losing money. If more people are bullish, then the price will go up as new investors buy in to take advantage of the opportunity.

The Head and Shoulders Story

Like all charting patterns, the ups and downs of the head and shoulders pattern tell a very specific story about the battle being waged between bulls and bears.

The initial peak and subsequent decline represent the waning momentum of the prior bullish trend. Wanting to sustain the upward movement as long as possible, bulls rally to push the price back up past the initial peak to reach a new high (the head). At this point, it is still possible that bulls could reinstate their market dominance and continue the upward trend.

However, once price declines a second time and reaches a point below the initial peak, it is clear that bears are gaining ground. Bulls try one more time to push price upward, but succeed only in hitting the lesser high reached in the initial peak. This failure to surpass the highest high signals the bulls' defeat and bears take over, driving the price downward and completing the reversal.

Source: Investopedia

Market Analysis 2/08/2017

The Nifty rallied to a fresh record high of 10,137.85 on Wednesday but saw selling pressure soon after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) slashed key rates by 25 bps and made a bearish candle, which closely resembles a Bearish Belt Hold kind of pattern, on daily charts.

A Bearish Belt Hold pattern is formed when the opening price becomes the highest point of the trading day, which in Wednesdays trading session was a record high of 10,136.30 and rose slightly to a record high of 10,137.85. After opening, the index then witnesses selling pressure throughout the trading session.

In this pattern, there is small or no upper shadow and the index declines throughout the trading day which makes up for the large body and a small lower shadow.

In Wednesday's price action, Nifty50 opened at 10,136.30, which was slightly below its record high of 10,137.85. The Union Cabinet of India approved 20 major amendments to the Bill upon Rajya Sabha’s recommendations, in 2015. It then finally got approved by the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha on 10th and 15th March, 2016, respectively and finally became an Act in May, 2016.

What is It?
RERA aims to create a regulatory body for the real estate sector. The main aim of the Act is to protect the interest or buyers and promote timely delivery of properties or projects. In order to achieve this, registration of the projects covering either more than 500 sq. ft. land or involving at least eight apartments has been made compulsory. The builder or “promoter” will need to furnish the details of the project online and this information would be available to the public. Earlier, builders used to include extra spaces in the carpet area and charged buyers 20-30 per cent more than what would have been the charge on actual carpet area. Unaware buyer also used to pay the asked amount. The RERA specifically defines the carpet area to avoid unaware buyers to fall prey to the promoters’ tactics. Next, promoters would be required to keep 70 per cent of the amount received from buyers in a separate escrow account and would be allowed to use that money only for the development of the project for which the money has been paid. This will not only ensure speedy development of the project but will also dissuade promoters to misallocate the funds. Last but not the least, promoters would need to get various approvals from all the competent authorities before starting off with a project. This will ensure buyers’ protection from future legal issues.

Why RERA?
Industries like telecom, banking, stock markets, insurance, pension, film, FDI, food, cricket, etc. all have regulators in the name of TRAI, RBI, SEBI, IRDAI, PFRDA, CBFC, FIPB,FSSAI and BCCI, respectively. However, the sector which has the third largest contribution to GDP, which attracts most of our investments and which is the root cause of black money and corruption, is ironically not regulated. The sector I’m referring to is real estate where lacks and crores of black money exchange hands. Buyer pays in unaccounted cash to lower the registration amount and hence, stamp duty and seller demands money in cash to evade taxes. The use of black money in realty transactions creates a win-win situation for both the parties.
RERA aims to solve all these problems by making the transactions transparent. Compulsory registration and revelation of details of the properties will narrow the trust deficit in real estate industry and improve transparency. Moreover, timely delivery of projects will lead to an increased demand. People currently fear investing in real estate because the projects are not completed for years and their money remains locked. Now since RERA promises timely delivery of projects, demand is expected to increase and this will also lead to decrease in inventory levels. Currently on of the reasons for high prices is high inventory. When the inventory will decrease, prices will automatically decrease, triggering even more rise in demand. In nutshell, the cycle of real estate where inventories, prices, supply, demand and interest rate chase each other, will run smoothly and in a balanced way!

Market Analysis 28/07/2017

At the closing bell today, Sensex fell by 73.42 pts and arrived at 32309.88 pts.
