Silver has taken a serious beating, and yet the daily RSI is still not showing an oversold level as you would expect with the magnitude of the fall. We could see further downside to the mid 60's before this drawdown is over...

Gold seems in relatively better shape. the drawdown has been less brutal

Gold has taken a hard hit this year after reaching new All Time Highs at just under $5600/oz. After recovering from the end of January smackdown, Gold proceeded to give it all back in March as soon as the bombs started dropping in the Middle East- with the bulk of the fall coming in the last two days, -8%! Let's see if it's able to hold these levels

Silver isn't faring any better--on the contrary...

Nasdaq 100 Breaching the 200 DMA— first time since its last break out at the end of 2022.

RSI showing oversold levels. These have been BTD moments over the last 2 years—returning between 20 to almost 50% in its runs from trough to peak.

The corrections, excluding the latest 10% drop in the last 3 weeks, have been 7-13%, averaging -10%, and lasting between 26-102 days, with a median of 28 days.

Will this time be Business as Usual, or is there further to fall?

There is great physical demand in gold and the yellow metal would trade substantially higher if the central banks wouldn't hold it back by selling into the market.

Technically oriented investors want to see US$ 2'070 per ounce, on a closing basis, to give a clear buy signal. Breaking through US$ 2'070 would indicate that the consolidation period since summer 2020 would be over. A first up-move should carry the gold price 10% higher.

As per last Friday spot gold closed in New York, 4 p.m. at US$ 2'053.00 per ounce, up US$ 33.10 from

a week prior. Attachment 5 displays the spot gold trading pattern for the last 3 trading days.

The Proprietary Cycle (attachment 6) is up. The cycle indicator is a tool, which provides an idea

at which direction investors should be positioned in the short-term.

Attachment 7 shows the daily chart of the largest ETF investing in gold shares, VanEck Vectors Gold

Miners ETF, GDX, US$ 31.56, up 2.0% from last week. The index has broken out on the upside from

a consolidation period since August 2023 (lower chart). And it is now outperforming the gold bullion

(upper chart).

In silver, large speculators (hedge funds and money managers) reduced their long positions by 5.5% and reduced the short positions by 16.0%. Commercial silver dealers reduced their long positions by 3.5% and left their short positions unchanged. The net short position of the Commercials increased to 48'800 from 47'500 the prior week.. This is still a very large net short position (attachment 8).

The 30-minute silver spot price chart (attachment 9) reveals silver prices made the low last Monday,

December 18 at US$ 23.66 per ounce and the high last Friday at US$ 24.60. There were several attacks

during the week but not really successful. Last Friday, after hitting the high, the silver depressing team moved the silver prices in a hurry down to US$ 24.09.

The weekly silver chart is forming an Inverse Head and Shoulder formation with a resistance level at

US$ 26 per ounce. Once cleared the price will move very fast to US$ 28 (attachment 10).

The Global X Silver Miners ETF, symbol SIL, US$ 28.94 was up 3.8% (attachment 11). This is the largest ETF investing in so-called silver stocks. The Point&Figure chart (attachment 12) indicates SIL is still far away from US$ 50 achieved in early 2021.

In 2020, Austria issued a government bond with a maturity date of 2120, aka Century 100-year government bond, with a coupon of 0.88%.

It was said:"Even though the bond has a very long maturity, its maturity profile would fit institutional investors like pension funds and insurance companies".

The banks mandated to handle the bond had orders of up to EURO 17.7 BN. but only EURO 2 BN. were raised.

It's all been downhill since then!

One year since its new CEO came in, Citigroup is right back where it was then.

JP MORGAN hasn't fared too much better, although it's still barely 10% up for the year.

Wells Fargo has been the winner, after some horrible years of course.

Bank of America $BAC has also done well over the past year.

Is this Just a hiccup before we really start seeing a rally with rising rates—or is this foretelling something else…?

The #Gold / $SPY ratio has finally turned up after collapsing for a decade.

The low was in January of this year at 3.8.

Wheat prices have been strong lately (attachment 1). We have been writing for some time that we expect a major bull market in The grains complex: corn, soybeans and wheat.

As the 10-year chart shows, wheat futures hit a 6-year high and look to be finally breaking out on the upside after a 6-year bottom formation.

We have been signaling, since August and again in September, that this “stealth” bull market is just Getting started. This offers investors with the potential for some major medium to long-term gains, notwithstanding the short term volatility.

Argentina's Rosario grains exchange lowered its estimate of the South American country's soon to be harvested 2020/21 wheat crop to 17 Million tonnes, from 18 MM. tonnes previously, citing dryness and frosts.

In the U.S. it is so dry out west They haven't had a measurable rain in south central Kansas, in the Wichita area, in over a month, since September 11, 2020. It is dust-bowl-like conditions in eastern Colorado and southwest Kansas. Around 36% of U.S. winter wheat production is situated within areas suffering from drought by mid-October, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, with the most severe rating, exceptional drought, affecting relatively small areas in eastern Colorado and Texas panhandle.

It isn't just U.S. that is experiencing drought conditions, extreme dryness and heat in Russia is another factor. According to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration, the three months from June to August made up the hottest summer ever recorded for the entire Northern Hemisphere.

Attachment 3 below displays the daily chart of the Teucrium Wheat Fund ETN symbol $WEAT (US$ 6.00)

A possible investment vehicle is the Invesco DB Agriculture ETF $DBA US$14.82. About 40% of the fund is invested in grains futures contracts (Attachment 4).

The window to get winter wheat crops germinated and established before dormancy is narrowing quickly. A continued lack of rain over the next few weeks could significantly hurt development.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus has driven strong demand for basic foodstuffs, in addition to the logistical challenges to harvests and impeded supply chains.

If farmers get higher margins on selling grains they usually do two things with the higher proceeds they receive: 1) buy fertilizers and 2) invest in farm machinery.

As concerns fertilizers, Nutrient Inc. (formerly Potash Corp.), $NTR (US$ 40.22) is an excellent stock (Attachment 5). It is the world’s leading supplier of potash and distributor (through retail network) of fertilizers. It pays a quartely dividend of US$ 0.45, currently yielding a very respectable 4.5%. And the dividend is currently deemed safe, as the retail division is doing very well.

On the farm machinery side Deere & Co. $DE US$ 240.06, Attachment 7, has already been having an excellent year in anticipation of the coming bull market.

Continuing with our previous comments on the coming bull market for grains, Soybeans $SOYB (attachment 1), Corn $CORN (attachment 2) and Wheat $WEAT (attachment 3) had a strong day yesterday.

Attachment 4 displays the strong corn sales in the new marketing year, which began on September 1, 2020 (see text below).

This is good news for fertilizer companies such as Nutrien Inc., (formerly Potash Corp.) as farmers buy more fertilizers when the proceeds from grain sales increase (attachment 5).

Also Deere & Co. should benefit as they are manufacturing agricultural machineries (attachment 6).

There is an ETF: Invesco DB Agriculture Fund (DBA) US$ 14.89 (attachment 7). However, the fund does also contain other agriculture items.

The U.S. corn marketing year began Sept. 1 and already has 832.713 million bushels (21.15 million metric tons) of corn sold on the books, including 377.546 million bushels (9.59 million tons) destined for China alone.

Most of these sales are known as "outstanding sales," meaning corn contracted but not yet delivered. Total outstanding sales at any point in the marketing year have surpassed 20 million metric tons only a few times since

data started being collected in 1990.

Since U.S. corn sales tend to pick up post-harvest, between January and March, having such a significant amount of outstanding sales already in place creates a solid foundation for the new crop year and indicates the potential for large corn sales overall in the coming 12 months.

Such large numbers, particularly from sales to China, are also having a positive impact on price, which is influenced by many supply and demand factors

Looks like the grains complex is preparing for a big bull market. The main reason seems to be the climate.

Grain prices tend to be volatile. So buy and hold is not the answer.

Better to trade the grains.

Attachments 1 to 3 are daily charts of the futures contracts of Corn, Wheat and Soybeans. All of them had positive price changes in the last 2 days.

The long-term charts (attachment 4-6) reveal how depressed grain prices have been over the years. All bear markets are coming ultimately to an end and our programs are calling for a change to come.

What to buy?

JJG (iPath A Series B Bloomberg Grains Subindex Total Return ETN) US$ 39.72 (attachment 7). Soybeans are weighted with 46.5%, wheat 29.9% and corn 23.5%.

There are also individual funds on these grains. They track an index of futures contracts. It includes the 2nd and 3rd contracts to expire, as well as the contract expiring in the December following the third contract.

Commodities have been under pressure lately as the Coronavirus situation gives fears of a worldwide slowdown of economies.

A vehicle to play is the Wisdom Tree Continuous Commodity Index Fund ETF, symbol GCC, US$ 17.74. GCC tracks an equal-weighted index of 17 commodities.

It uses futures contracts averaged across the nearest 6 months of the futures curve to maintain its exposure and rebalances daily. Each commodity is weighted around 5.9%. (Attachments 5&6)

Attachment 1 displays the CRB Reuters/Jefferies CRB Index. The index comprises 19 commodities but is heavily weighted in energy with oil being weighted 23%. Together with natural gas and gasoline, the energy sector is weighted way over 30% (attachment 2).

In a very short period of time the CRB Index lost just over 10%. The weekly chart (attachment 3) shows the index arrived at the levels of December 2018 and

August/September 2019. The long-term Point & Figure chart (attachment 4) reveals the index reached the low of the last few years.

U. S. stock markets looking awfully tippy $SPX $RUT $DJIA $INDU

It is high noon to nail down your profits.

Long weekends have the big advantage that people have more time for their families and more time to think about their live and other things like to figure out to make money.

We took the occasion to look at daily charts of three U.S. stock indices, the Dow Jones, Standard & Poor 500, and the Russell 200 Index.

The Dow Jones Industrial Index and the S&P 500 Index fell last Thursday below the 50-day moving average. The Russell 2000 Small Capitalization Index has already for weeks a tough time to hold the 50-day moving average (attachments 1-4).

We still think the U.S stock markets are in a overture stage, talking in Opera terms, of something bigger to come. This is also valuable for European stock markets. On U.S. inauguration day, on January 20, 2017, the lights turned from green to yellow (amber). We all know from traffic lights, the next colour is red.

#USD Dollar Index - Waiting for the upside breakout

Attachment 1 is the U. S. Dollar Index long term Point&Figure chart. For the last 2 years the index has been forming a Broadening or Megaphone pattern. A breakout of 102 would signal that the index would be departing for a new uptrend.

The U.S. Dollar Index, which reflects a basket of currencies versus the U. S. Dollar, has shown some strength lately. Attachment 2 indicates the components of the U.S. Dollar Index. This is the index the Federal Reserve is watching.

The reason is once again the financial condition of Greece. As in the past a lot of talking is taking place among Brussel's politicians (EU), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Government of Greece.

Most likely, nobody in the European Union has an interest to deal with the real financial crisis (haircut on government bonds, let Greece out of the EU in order to devalue the new currency) as the elections in France are just two months away. Some new funds will flow to Greece to calm down the game. In other words the problem will be postponed to an indefinite date.

Attachment 3 shows the EURO versus U. S. Dollar

long term Point&Figure chart. It indicates the dramatic decline of the EURO in spring 2014 from 136 to 105 in spring 2015. We are bullish on the U. S. Dollar and wouldn't be surprised to see the next downtrend to be started in the next few months.

Chart 1 – Key levels to watch on Gold heading into the FOMC Rate Decision on Wednesday:

o Support at the 50-day moving average near $1,180, a breakdown would signal the resumption of the downtrend with risk to the December lows;

o Resistance at the January highs, ability to make a higher high would signal upside back toward the 200-day MA near $1,270.

Chart 2 – The key ratio we continue to monitor for a directional signal in gold equities is the GDX versus GLD. Recall that a key a staple of a gold bull market is outperformance of gold stocks relative to gold. Ability for the GDX:GLD ratio to break above 0.21x along the November and January highs would, in our view, provide a signal to build an overweight gold position. Failure at this level, however, would keep the series of lower lows and lower highs intact.

Chart 3 – The U.S. Dollar Index has pulled back to support along the December lows. A break below this level would sgnal a deeper correction back toward the 200-day moving average. Resistance on the upside exists at the 50-day moving average at 101.50.

#Gold - The crowd still too bullish

Net commercial gold dealers

dropped further their positions,

which are now at the lowest level

since May 31st. However, the

positions are still sizeable. Large

speculators (hedge funds and

managed money) further took their

losses (attachment 1).

In the silver market large speculators

reduced their positions taking the losses.

Net commercial silver dealers also

reduced their short positions, which

historically are still large (attachment 2).

The KITCO Gold Survey indicates that

Wall Street and Retail investors are in the short

term still in the bullish camp. This is not a

good sign (attachment 3).

The Gold Barometers are neutral for

precious metal stocks and physical gold

and silver (attachment 4).

The Gold hourly chart (attachment 5)

shows that gold went nowhere last week.

As a matter of fact gold was unable to rally

after the sharp losses of the week prior.

Gold lost US$ 5.00 per ounce last week

(New York time 4:00 p.m.) to US$ 1,252

per ounce. It all looks that a test at the

US$ 1,200 per ounce will follow.

Gold stocks always outperform the physical

gold price in an environment of rising gold

prices. On the other side, falling gold prices mean

that gold stocks decline sharper than the gold

bullion. The attached chart 6 shows that the

ARCA Gold Bugs Index (HUI) climbed from a

low of around 100 in January 2016 to a high of

around 285 by August 2016. HUI lost about 30%

over the last two months, whereas the gold bullion

declined around 9%. The HUI Index has just

fallen a bit below the 200-day moving average

(attachment 6).
