TED talks are the bomb. I’m totally and unashamedly addicted. These two are some of my favorites. Also, I’ve discovered the joy of mashup songs. The Jackson Pit  is my current favorite. Old school MJ paired with pep-in-your-step Passion Pit? I think yes.

Kati is recommending this album by one of her current favorites, Andrew Huang. And she’s also loving Welcome To Nightvale, a rather unconventional podcast. You know the drill, check ’em out!

Welcome to episode ten! We are officially in double digits and we feel pretty cool about ourselves.

My new finds this week are mainly musical. I’m loving this new album by John Mayer. His music has been a staple of my childhood and I fall more in love with every album.

Miscellaneous Romance is an EP put out by a sort-of-friend-mostly-acquaintance of mine, Paul Arend. (Coughcough, right now it’s freeeeee!) I’ve listened to it way more times than is socially acceptable. Sue me.

This is the website for General Fuzz, one of Kati’s finds for the week. You should check out  this song, because we all know that Kati has great taste in music.

I won’t link you to all the movies…but if you’re in a mood for a chick flick, try Mamma Mia, When Harry Met Sally, Crazy Stupid Love, 27 Dresses, The Devil Wears Prada, Leap Year, A Lot Like Love, The Proposal, Miss Congeniality, A Cinderella Story, The Princess Bride, or Aquamarine. These are the movies of my teen years and they are comfort food to me. As always, be sure to check the ratings before you watch! (I feel like When Harry Met Sally might be an R???)

Forgive me. It’s taken me a while to get around to this.

Also, before you listen to this episode, you might want to note that it contains some Harry Potter plot spoilers. We’ll warn you before we give anything away….

I was reading the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants books. They’re such a classic. And the perfect lightweight read for when you’re savoring the last days of summer.

I also recommend listening to Copland’s cover of She’s Always A Woman”. I find it hard to resist singing along. Though, to be honest, I find it hard to resist singing along to just about anything. Here’s the original too.

And, you can’t call yourself a Wildcat unless you listen to the High School Musical Soundtrack. The music to the second movie is probably my favorite. Kati’s been playing it too, so you know it’s good if we both love it.

I think we can all see why. He plays the best Sherlock Holmes ever. And he’s not hard on the eyes, either.

She’s also been listening to Andrew Huang. Songs to Wear Pants to? I’m hooked. One of her favorites is Vass Tunga. Give it a listen.

We’re not going to talk about how long it took me to get around to doing shownotes. No we are not.

I love learning more about my personality. It’s kind of an obsession. So I really loved taking the myres-briggs personality test. If you’re curious, I am an ENTJ.

Kati and I were chock full of new music to listen to. One song with both love is Get Lucky by Daft Punk. Another song I’ve been listening to a lot is Gone, Gone, Gone by Phillip Phillips. We also enjoy Blurred Lines, but be advised….the lyrics are, shall we say, interesting.

As for myself, I’ve enjoyed rediscovering the lovely band Acceptance. They’re a throwback from my 5th and 6th grade years, but their album Phantoms is like comfort food, but music. Comfort music. That’s a thing, right? It’s rock. It’s addicting. You can sing along. You can dance along. What’s not to love? Hanson is a new discovery for me, but the band itself has been around for a while. Every song is good, but if you’re new to listening, I recommend Juliet. Another new find is this lovely band called The Cab. I think it’s impossible not to love their song Endlessly. I dare you not to like it.

Also, I’ve been reading Gift From The Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Fun fact, my older sister, Reeve, was named after her daughter.

Kati has been reading The Picture Of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I love Oscar Wilde. I also love Kati. I’m convinced the book must be good, therefore. She also enjoys the music of Brad Kavanagh. She recommends that you watch this video of him singing. I’ve seen it. It’s good. She also likes his song Always The Quiet Ones.

Look! It’s more Dr. Who stuff! I never no how to introduce these items because I feel like just trying to understand the general plot line of the show is about all I can cope with. However, if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times: if Kati likes it, it must be good. (Aside from that phase in her life where she really liked the Powerpuff Girls. I think we’d both like to pretend that never happened.)

I’ve been listening to this song. It’s really addictive. You might catch yourself listening to it several times a day. Or maybe on repeat. Not like I have personal experience, because obviously I don’t do either of those things. Nope. Not me.

And this album is totally my jam. It’s the perfect music to listen to while you’re out on a drive, or cooking, or falling asleep. Plus, most of the songs are pretty easy to figure out on the piano, which is always a win for me.

Kati has been enjoying earthshock. I would say more about it, but to be perfectly honest, I don’t really understand most things she says after the words “Doctor Who.” That being said, she has excellent taste, so if things about doctors who travel through time and space (because that’s what the show’s about, right?) float your boat, you should check it out.

This, right here, is the 5th doctor. Decorative vegetable, and all. He looks rather dapper. Fun fact: he later went on to play DC Davison in one of my favorite BBC detective shows, The Last Detective.

Kati also got the inside track on a very cool book. It’s not available yet, but you should take a look at it when it is!

Lincoln is a stellar movie. It’s funny, it’s thought provoking and it’s deep. (BONUS: it’s also super educational.)

Since we’re on the subject of movies…let’s talk about soundtracks! The soundtrack to Bewitched is probably my all time fave. I love to play it while I cook!

And now that we’re on the subject of music, Demi Lovato’s new album, Demi, totally took me by surprise. It’s grown up, it’s high quality music and the perfect mix of fun and serious. Totally sing-along-able and you can tell she wrote it right from her heart. What can I say? It was love at first listen.

Kati and I are both majorly crushing on this song. I have to resist playing it on repeat.

And Kati had a little childhood throwback when she stumbled across this show.

I discovered some pretty cool poetry this week. Want to check it out? Yeah, I thought so. It’s by Lang Leav. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say her work is genius.

The lovely Kati found a great youtube channel called Kid Snippets. You will laugh, I guarantee it. Her other discovery was the timeless classic, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, if, for some reason, you have yet to see it, you should watch it now. And if you’ve seen it before, well, you know you want to watch it again.

I fell in love with two books, this one will make you cry your eyes out and this one will make you reconsider how you’re living your life.

I also watched a pretty awesome movie. It’s pretty thought provoking, but also wickedly funny.

Kati and I listen to some other podcasts. We both love Joy the Baker and her podcast with friend Tracy is part of a website called homefries. I also listen to The Crush and The Simple Mom Podcast both of which are also found there.

Kati listens to The Truth, Let The Eves Drop, and The Doctor Who Podcast. All of them look pretty good to me, but I’m especially interested by The Truth. May have to give it a try!

Kati’s recommended read is this book and let me just say, I definitely will be reading that!

I read a lot of fashion blogs, but I think these two are my favorite. And let me tell you, it was hard to play favorites because there are so many good options out there.

Last, but certainly not least, if you don’t know who NEEDTOBREATHE is, you should. Don’t know where to start? Try this song.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Lowercase Noises. I think this might be my favorite song. Give it a listen!

If you’re looking for a good mystery series, then I recommend the Inspector Gamache series by Louis Penny. I’ve just finished book two, and it’s a stunning series!
