Rewinding the Clock

Here’s a quick rundown on how this all came to be.  Three young friends met while working at a Wailea restaurant and bonded through a love of surfing. Jaron Blosser, Travis Morrin and Cody Christopher launched a small catering business together, innocently thinking it would give them the time and freedom to work (and surf) when they wanted.  As you can imagine, they were inundated with work — they decided to take on the former Bada Bing space at Kīhei Kalama Village, which required major renovation!  They had also never been business owners before, so together, they figured out a plan to get rolling.  They put the love in over many months, and the doors first opened at Three’s Bar & Grill on Friday, February 5, 2010, welcoming customers to 1945 S. Kīhei Road with a diversity of food and drinks.

A Journey Like No Other

In the 15 years since then, we’ve been racking up the memories along a very eventful journey. Event hosting and late night shows, wedding and boat catering, Food Network visits (twice!) and “Best of Maui” awards, kitchen fires and island fires, renovations, shutdowns, reopenings, blessings and so many moments in-between.

We now have two outdoor, shaded patios; an air-conditioned Surf Lounge with multiple screens for sports viewing, along with custom wood tables, bar tops and booths (made by our co-owners Cody Christopher & Jaron Blosser); and a dining room adorned with island images by Travis Morrin Photography, after our co-owner took up photography in 2020!

15 Years of Love for Maui

If you look closely, you’ll see the motto “live love surf” on the walls and that really speaks to our owners, who do their best to live with purpose, love what they do and surf when they can — after all, it’s the activity that brought these three friends together in the first place. The Maui fires in 2023 hit everyone on the Valley Isle hard.  As a way to support our local community, Three’s began offering happy hour ALL DAY to kama‘āina with a Hawai‘i State ID.  And if you haven’t heard, our happy hour happens to be award-winning with great deals on an abundance of small plates, appetizers and drinks!  For non-residents who visit, it runs from 3 to 6 p.m. every day of the week.  Learn more about what we offer in our blog, Three Reasons to Spend Happy Hour with Us.

Mahalos on our Birthday & Beyond

Together, with a fantastic team, we’ve ridden the waves of ups and downs, and are truly grateful to still be standing today — with stronger footing and more balance than when we first started!  Thank you for helping to lift us up and support our small business here on Maui.  Get the lowdown on who we are in this overview video.

In solemn remembrance of the Maui fires, we’ve established a donation drive to support Maui Food Bank beginning on Thursday, August 8th and running through Saturday, August 31st.

As we all know here, the destructive fires in Lāhainā and Kula impacted numerous families, businesses and sacred lands. There remains a long road toward recovery. We wanted to find a way to honor those affected by the fires, and to support those who have tirelessly endeavored to assist those in need throughout this past year.

We’ve chosen to focus on one crucial aspect of recovery with far-reaching impacts: FOOD for those who need it. Maui Food Bank is a critical resource, continuing to provide food and essential supplies, making a profound difference in the lives of so many. Together, we can help even more.

For more than a decade now, we’ve been known as the place to be when it comes to Happy Hour on Maui.  In case you need an excuse, here are three great reasons to join us!

1.  IT’S NOT JUST DRINKS.  We’re proud of our award-winning pūpūs and beverages (did you know we’ve received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence every year since 2018?!).  And our happy hour menu features a wide variety of both eats and drinks, from delectable small plates and sushi to beer, wine and specialty cocktails!  We also happen to be one of the biggest purveyors of oysters in South Maui, flying those beauties in fresh from the Pacific Northwest.

3. IT’S EVERY DAY.   It can be frustrating to only catch happy hour during the work week, but not on weekends (when you might have more time to enjoy it).  That’s why we offer it every single day of the week!  Whenever we’re open for business, our happy hour is part of the package.

On any day of the year, our beverage director Glenn Morrin has curated a wonderful, diverse wine list with an impressive array of selections.  In fact, Three’s Bar & Grill has won the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence consistently since 2018!!

Four Wines for Valentine’s

As for Valentine’s Day, we’re offering great deals on four outstanding wines; each unique and memorable.  Glenn took the time to share his knowledge on what makes these so special!  So let’s run down this luscious list…and if this doesn’t get you craving a glass, we don’t know what will!!

We’re happy that our Happy Hour makes so many people, well, yes, HAPPY.  It’s been that way for a long time…more than a decade in fact.  We’ve been known for our happy hour on Maui since we opened in Kīhei Kalama Village in 2010.  So it’s always nice when we receive awards like Best Happy Hour from local media like Maui Time (see the list and years we’ve won in our Media section) — and we were especially jazzed on a recent accolade from Maui Inspired as one of the Top 5 Happy Hours on Maui!

Three’s Gets Featured on Maui Inspired

What Happy Hour on Maui Means at Three’s

You get plenty of time to enjoy, whether you’re chillin’ at the handcrafted booths or sustainable wooden bar (thanks to master builder/co-owner Cody Christopher and project manager/co-owner Jaron Blosser) in our air-conditioned Surf Lounge, enjoying the dining room (with stunning surf visuals from photographer/co-owner Travis Morrin on the walls) or relaxing on one of our TWO patios.  Our happy hour spans from 3 to 6 p.m. every single day of the week!

We offer specials on both food and drinks, so you’ll find a range of small plates on special, along with tropical cocktails, beer and wine!  Food options include the BBQ Kalua pork quesadilla, panko-crusted Ahi roll, local garlic noodles, coconut-crusted fish taco, crispy pork belly with green papaya salad, coconut shrimp and MORE!

It’s also pretty cool that we have sushi on our happy hour menu, since not many restaurants do.  We also happen to be one of the biggest purveyors of oysters in South Maui, flying those beauties in fresh daily from the Pacific Northwest.

Supporting Local Whenever Possible

We talk about this a lot at our sister restaurant Fork & Salad Maui, which is a healthy farm-to-table eatery in Kīhei and Kahului in case you didn’t know, but Three’s is a huge proponent of supporting local farmers and suppliers too.  As a hallmark of our business, we buy from Maui producers like Kumu Farms on the regular, use local ingredients for our garlic noodle plate and source our fresh fish from local fishermen as well.

We, like most of you, have been following the COVID-19 pandemic closely and continue to monitor the guidelines coming from state and federal leadership.  As a full-service restaurant, we have made the decision to close Three’s Bar & Grill in Kīhei, effective immediately.  The health and safety of our customers and employees remain the priority, and rest assured that we will be taking measures to ease the financial challenges of our wonderful staff during this closure.

How can it be??  A decade in business??  We can barely fathom it, but Three’s Bar & Grill has now officially been open for 10 years!!  After launching their catering company, co-owners Jaron Blosser, Travis Morrin and Cody Christopher took over and renovated the former Bada Bing space, welcoming customers to 1945 S. Kīhei Road for the first time on Friday, February 5, 2010.  It’s been an unforgettable journey since that point, and the guys give us a rundown on the big moments of the last 10 years in our retrospective video above.  Naturally, each Three’s owner explains around 3.33 years of their business timeline:  Cody takes us through the first few years, Travis handles the middle, and Jaron outlines more recent times.

So what’s to come in the NEXT ten years?  The guys address that question in our video too, so enjoy watching and come see us anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. to celebrate!!  On our birthday, we’ll also be making a donation to Nabavi Legacy Fund, which supports several local nonprofits.

The doors first opened at Three’s Bar & Grill on Friday, February 5, 2010.  Since then, we’ve been racking up the memories along a very eventful journey.  It seems almost unbelievable that nearly 10 years have gone by!!

Together, with a fantastic team, we’ve ridden the waves of ups and downs, including a catering partnership with Pacific Whale Foundation and food truck debut in 2013, a devastating kitchen fire in 2016, and Food Network feature in 2017 that put Three’s in the national spotlight.  

We want to invite the island to join us for this big birthday on Wednesday, February 5th, 2020.  All day and night long, customers will enjoy 25% off the entire menu (excluding happy hour specials) of food and drinks!

We’ll also be doing something special to give back to the community that’s shared so much with us:  Three’s is donating a total of $3,333.33 to the Nabavi Legacy Fund, which supports several fantastic local nonprofits:  Grow Some Good, which encourages kids to create and sustain gardens in schools around the island; Kids & Teens Cook with Heart, teaching students about cooking for a healthy lifestyle; and Maui Food Innovation Center, a UHMC resource for new food entrepreneurs.
