Materials Needed

2 Vibrant Scarves (Pro-tip: Thrift store finds work perfectly here!)
Lining Fabric (2 pieces cut to match scarf dimensions)
Grommet Kit & Setting Tool (Save yourself the headache and use a proper hole punch instead of an X-Acto knife!)
Gold Chain Purse Strap (Look for lobster claw clasps so you can swap it onto other bags later)
Sewing Machine & Matching Thread

Step-by-Step Tutorial

Stitch the Main Bag & Lining Place your two scarves right-sides together and sew along the sides and bottom edge. Repeat this exact process for your lining fabric, but leave a 4-inch opening along one side seam—you'll need this to turn the bag right-side out!

The Problem It Solves: If standard store bought bangles always slide down awkwardly onto your hands, this custom fit DIY is for you!

How to Do It: Cut 2-inch wide bias strips from your leftover caftan fabric. Wrap flexible leather cording into a double loop sized perfectly to your wrist. Wrap the bias fabric strips tightly around the cord, tucking the end neatly into the rolls with a bobby pin.

Salvation Army Thrift Store Warehouse Tour and WorthPoint Reseller Workshop

Thanks Worthpoint and Salvation army for the resellers workshop and treasure hunt day. It was a wonderful learning experience and a great way to celebrate Earth Day!

I don’t normally click on Facebook ads but I was quite curious as a couple of my favorite places were mentioned - Salvation Army and eBay. It was well targeted! I had heard of Worthpoint but had never fully understood the site so was really glad to be properly introduced and educated on its uses.

WorthPoint is a database of over 200,000+ makers’ marks, autographs, patterns and symbols (MAPS) to identify items and uncover the history, value and authenticity.

Resellers use the site to:

create a personal digital archive of prized possessions
Find accurate pricing trends to buy better and sell better
Expand knowledge base with their digital library of over 8,000 books, guides, and catalogs

To highlight these services, we were treated to a crash course on assigning value to artwork and listing on eBay.

We had some time to treasure hunt in the store and do what thrift shoppers love to do -- SHOW AND TELL! It was nice seeing what others were attracted to and attaching value to those treasures. I used my time to look for items to add to The Thriftanista Closet.

If you’ve been a longtime viewer of Thriftanista in the City then you know I’ve partnered with the Salvation Army thrift store before. I love the mission and commitment to doing the most good.

My absolute favorite part of the day was the Salvation Army warehouse tour. SA does their very best to recycle as much as possible. Less than 5% of donated textiles end up in landfills. The funds are then used to support Salvation Army rehabilitation centers.

The warehouse is incredibly organized considering the 1,000s of donations received on a daily basis. I spotted a gorgeous Anuschka hand painted bag that I'm looking forward to bidding on in the Salvation Army eBay store real soon.

I picked up a vintage muumuu dress in Palm Springs not knowing if it fit or not because it's fish fabric. You can't so no to a fish dress. I ended up having to downsize and refashion into a simple maxi dress.

Vintage Floral Duster Find That Makes Me Feel Like A Golden Girl

I am so in love with one of my latest thrift finds. I found a vintage floral duster while I was in Palm Springs. It's bright and colorful. Long and cozy. It's light enough for summer wear and keeps the air conditioner chill away. I wore it to brunch and felt like one of the Golden Girls in my pastel colored ensemble.

Besides the long length on the coat, I love the huge pockets that can hold all weekend essentials -- sunglasses and keys.

I've found that my clothes sell faster online when I wear them versus when I put them on the mannequin or laying flat. That's what inspired today's thrifted outfit. I usually wear the clothes that fit and and look good on me. I also treat it as a chance to play dress up in outfits that don't have a place in my lifestyle. Today's dress up is a vintage jean skirt. Love the style but it's a bit too small.

I've had it in my Poshmark closet for a year. I originally had it posted with a collage of button front denim skirt outfits found on Pinterest. I wanted to show how awesome and on trend this skirt could be. It got a lot of likes but hung out in the Posh closet through all of the seasons without any bites. I actually had three of the same style and two others that were button front flared that all sold. Obviously, I have a thing for jean skirts.

How to Upsize A Shirt Dress

I bought a shirt dress on Poshmark that was exactly the style that I turn to in summer. It's long. It's cotton. It's easy to throw on. Plus, it has pockets. The measurements seemed about right in the description so I took a chance on it. The chest and back area turned out to be too tight. That button at the chest could pop at any second and the one at the waist could go too if I eat a big meal. I made lemonade out of lemons with an easy upsize trick.

There's nothing I enjoy more than having family and friends drop in on us for a visit. Impromptu visits are always happening. We live close to the airport so we tend to have people pop in all year around. Our location is also a nice resting point for our road tripping friends as well. I've learned to stay prepared and have been able to quickly throw together quality food and drink with less than 24 hours notice.

Step 1: Plan Your Menu

If food and drink is flavorful and flowing, you cannot go wrong. My go-to meal is tapas style small bites. On nice days, it's the perfect alfresco barbecue too. My favorite dishes to serve are tomatoes with bread, bacon wrapped dates, and a Spanish tortilla.

3 Ways to Refresh A Beat Up Thrift Store Jumpsuit

All the way back in 2012, I thrifted a vintage Egon von Furstenberg jumpsuit. He was the husband of Diane -- creator of the ultra flattering wrap dress. Egon was known as the Prince of High Fashion. This piece is one of those 80s polyester jumpsuit that were likely a dime a dozen back then. I wouldn't necessary call it 'high fashion' but it's pretty fabulous. Vintage jumpsuits are thrift store gold.

I like the vibrant yellow gold color of this one and it has pockets. Pockets are always a good idea. That's why I've held on to it for so long with very little actual wearing. I gave it a little perk up juice to get that one final wear before adding it to thethriftanista.shop.
