Mark suggests that one of the most intriguing things about certain sections — like this one! — is how things that the ‘church’ claims are irrelevant is how He may have Written it for us knowing far better. Just maybe.

And the Erev Shabbat reading starts to make that case:

During the Sabbath Day midrash, Mark begins by asking some relevant questions, including, “what is UN-righteousness?” And what does this parsha tell us about it.

And the answer follows from the observation that a person who was ‘declared’ unclean, by the cohenim, was put “outside the [clean, evidently!] camp” — until they were again declared clean.

A look at the story of Miriam, and her “bad-mouthing” of Moses (in Hebrew, “lashon hora,” or the “evil tongue”) does at least begin to make the case that “gossip” or such damaging and contemptible speech, MIGHT be a cause of the ‘plague’ of tzaraat.

But if “evil speech” can even remotely result in that ‘visual manifestation of a spiritual malady” – why, oh why, don’t we see it literally EVERYWHERE in a world today where the “Evil Tongue” gets you a network late night show?

The answers are, at least in hindsight, obvious.

And

And there it is.

World War 3 is still in progress, but it there were some interesting developments, and perhaps even encouraging ones. But the underlying economic disaster remains on track. And the criminals remain in the swamp.

And there are some elements – like the specific motivations of those doing Evil – that we might never know.

But we can make some observations with a pretty high degree of certainty. And be ready for them.

“Unpleasant Alternatives: Planning for MULTIPLE [Likely!] Options”

The study begins with Ephesians 3:14. In this teaching, Rabbi Steve Berkson expounds on ‘Strengthening the Inner Man’. If your inner man is weak, you will fall short of the finish line and not complete the race.

• How do you identify your weaknesses?

• What are the “inner man exercises”? What do you do to strengthen those areas?

• How do the trials and challenges in your life help you?

• Who are the coaches or trainers who encourage and help you in your training?

Rabbi Berkson once again dissects the words in these passages so that you will have a deeper understanding of what Yah expects of you, enabling you to do it and receive the blessings.

The story starts on the Eighth (or ‘Shemini’) day where YHVH tells Moshe and Aaron and the elders of Israel what must be done, as Aaron and his sons are consecrated to be kohenim, priests to Him.

During the Sabbath Day midrash, Mark suggests that the atbash, or set of literary brackets that surround the key element in the deaths of Nadab and Abihu (“there came forth fire from before YHVH, and CONSUMED…”) also touch the very heart of the lesson.

It’s all about eating, or consuming (the SAME Hebrew word, every time) and it surrounds people who were “nigh unto Me,” says YHVH. And the should have known better, but instead did that which He had NOT commanded. As if He had.

And there it is.

Funny how so much of what He commanded, and then warned about, has been literally “turned on its head.”

And how, once we see it, the thing that some disciples once called a “hard teaching,” isn’t really so hard at all.

And the Big Lie is (again) revealed for what it is.

Thankfully, World War 3 did NOT go nuclear this week, but it turns out that the ‘cease fire’ that allegedly thwarted it – at least for now – wasn’t what it was cracked up to be, either. But the underlying economic disaster is just as deadly as ever.

Has he been co-opted or coerced? Is he ‘under cover’ – fighting the Banksters and Global Evil? Or he he just plain gone insane?

In the Sabbath Day midrash, Mark this week explores the stunning CONTRAST between those ‘offerings’ and ‘sacrifices,’ — which Scripture again emphasizes in such detail — and the Single Sacrifice which has since be re-named to something it is certainly not.

Is there no irony in the claim that the single ‘Final’ and Ultimate Sacrifice has been renamed in an idolatrous celebration that invites the death penalty?

The haftorah reading begins with a warning that those who originally heard failed to heed. “You trust in lying words…” said the prophet YermeYahu (Jeremiah). “Obey My voice,” He told them.

They misunderstood – and ignored – the lesson of the ‘sacrifices’ – and STILL DO.

But it is the lesson of Ezekiel chapters 8 and 9 that is most pertinent to the idolatry that is so pervasive today!

Tzav: “Lots of ‘offerings – ONE Sacrifice – Even More Abomination Now – and Little Discernment”
