While Apple fans maybe going banana over its latest offering, the competition in the tablet PC space is already heating up. Many companies are offering their own version of product to fulfill this newly created niche. The latest and one of the most serious contender is Notion Ink's Adam. Adam sports a plethora of features not available in iPad. For one, Adam can play flash files while iPad does not support the format. Moreover, the product from Notion Ink has a 3 MP camera and can output video at 1080p which is way more attractive than iPad. What is more interesting id that this tablet runs on Android OS and thus have a lots of scope for open source applications to be developed. The device is to be released in June 2010.

Nexus One The Touch Screen Phone From Google

The time has finally arrived for which many enthusiasts of Google and Android were waiting phone. The company has announced its own touch screen mobile phone, Nexus One. It will be the first phone that is officially Google's own and the company is selling its unlocked version from its own website. The phone runs on Android operating system and 1-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 3.7 inches wide screen display, a 5 megapixels snapper among other features. The handset is manufactured by HTC, Taiwan. Full technical specifications can be accessed at the phone's website. On software front one of the most potent feature is there is voice-to-text facility that lets you enter text in any UI using your voice, a much coveted feature.

One can buy the phone from company for $529 unlocked while through T-Mobile the device can be obtained for a two year contract for $179. Verizon Wireless and Vodafone will be coming up with similar offers soon.

Nexus One is considered a very bold step by company towards its entry into the arena of super smart phones. With this new offering it will be competing with Apple, RIM directly. Nokia has released the younger brother of its popular smartphone N97, N97 Mini in India. And as the name says, the cellphone has subset of features found in the earlier version. The new model looks exactly like its predecessor but is slightly smaller in size. N97 Mini has a 3.2 inches touchscreen display ( the earlier model had 3.5 inches screen), 8 GB memory and a 5 MP snapper. Nokia N97 Mini is available in three colors -- Cherry black, Garnet and White. Recently, the handset won Best Mobile Broadband Handset award as part of the Asian Mobile Awards 2009. The phone costs around 31 thousand bucks.

HTC has just launched its next Android based touch screen mobile phone HTC Hero. HTC hero takes the Android functionality to next level with all new features.

Major pluses of this phone are support for Adobe Flash ( even iPhone does not has it!), multitouch capability, easy integration with social networking sites like Facebook, Flickr, Twitter etc. and and the introduction of a new Sense UI that makes doing things on this phone a breeze. All these features make is a serious competitor of iPhone 3G S and Palm Pre. HTC Hero lacks a physical keyboard that is a major bummer.

The mobile device boasts of a 3.2-inch touchscreen display (320X480 pixel resolution). The cellphone comes with a Teflon coating. India has finally got its first Android powered touchscreen phone HTC Magic and the courtesy goes to Airtel which has tied up with the Taiwanese cellphone maker to sell these phones in India. What is so special about this mobile phone is that the phone has Google's operating system for mobiles. For starters, Android is an OS developed by Google and is gaining popularity fast due to its being open source.

HTC Magic comes with a 3.2 inches HVGA display (320X480). The 116 grams handset measures 4.45 x 2.19 x 0.54 inches. There is a very handy trackball with enter button that enables you to scroll up and down screen. Since it is Android based phone, it has all the goodies like Google Maps, GTalk, Calendar, GMail, and more.

Nokia has started pushing new mobile phones on touchscreen front. The latest addition to the array of touch screen phones offered by Finnish cellphone maker is Nokia 5530 XpressMusic and as the name indicates, the mobile device is more focused on music and entertainment than any other thing. Moreover, there is a stress on cashing on the popularity of social nwtworking that is evident from the quick access facility to social networks like MySpace.

The music player, widescreen video playback (640×360), a standard 3.5mm audio plug make it a complete entertainment device. What is more useful though is a new contact bar that can hold up to 20 contacts. The bar acts as a quick access to the most frequently contacted persons. Apple just revealed the next version of its most awaited touch screen phone iPhone at WWDC 2009. The new mobile is named iPhone 3G S. Although, the cellphone does not look much different from its predecessor, iPhone 3G S has a faster processor (600 MHz), more RAM (256MB) an auto focus 3 megapixel camera, video recording capability and more.

Nokia is launching its most eagerly awaited touch screen handset, Nokia N97 in India soon. In fact the phone has already been launched in the country but the device will start shipping by the second week of June 2009. The cellphone by the Finnish phone maker is touted as one of the most advanced converged device yet.

Nokia N97 has all the features of a smartphone, a tech savvy user may expect. Among the prominent features there is a 3.5 inches screen, five mp camera and a front camera for video calls. The phone is fist device to support Nokia Ovi store that was launched a few weeks ago. Palm Pre Touch Screen Mobile A Tough Competitor To iPhone

One of the most awaited touch screen mobile phone of the year Palm Pre is ready to be released on June 6, 2009 and reviews are already out. The handset has got critical acclaims from reviewers worldwide. And almost every reviewer has compared it with Apple iPhone the undisputed king of touchscreen phones till now. Most of the reviews have declared a very tough competitor to iPhone and many have put the cellphone above Apple's phone.

Some pros and cons of Palm Pre have come to light. On the upside, the device has the actual keyboard unlike the iPhone and the keyboard is slider so the small form factor of Palm Pre is a feature many will like. The phone has 3.1-inch capacitive touchscreen with 480 x 320 resolution. The phone has 8GB of built-in storage. This phone has a 3.1 megapixel camera that puts it ahead of its so called competitors.

The cellphone runs on webOS that is a Linux based operating system. webOS is as intuitive as the physical design of the phone. For example, when you have got a notification, it gets displayed at the bottom of the screen instead of popping out above everything you were doing. One more thing that makes this mobile phone better than iPhone is the ability to run multiple applications simultaneously. Its OS introduces a new concept called Activity Cards. For Pre, every application window is a virtual card that can be flipped through and disposed off when required.

On the flip side, applications take a bit longer to load fully. One more downside is the lack of applications for device unlike its biggest rival that has a large number of apps crafted for it. Battery life is also an issue.

Palm Pre will be available on Sprint for $200 on a two year contract. The phone will be shipped with 1,150mAh battery, an AC adapter, stereo headset, microUSB sync cable and carry pouch.

Samsung has just released what it claims is the world's first 12 megapixel camera phone. Samsung Pixon 12 is a cellphone built for camera-maniacs around the world who just cannot get enough of megapixel power.

Pixon 12 has a lot of camera functions that can well replace your digital camera. The most impressive one is touch auto-focus that enables you to touch a point on the screen and make it a focal point of the image to be captured. Then there is Smart Auto mode that lends enough intelligence to camera to adjust according to conditions like lighting. This handset enables to take snaps very swiftly. One can move to next shot after 2 seconds thanks to its fast image saving capability. Due to presence of 28mm wide angle lens full image capture is a breeze.

Nokia 6208 Classic Touch Screen Mobile In India

Nokia seems to be increasing its presence in Indian touch screen mobiles market. There buzz is that the company is going to release four-five such mobile phones in the country this year. The launch of Nokia 6208 Classic seems to be one more step in the direction after Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

The touchscreen cellphone was released in China some times ago. 6208 Classic has got a 2.4-inch QVGA display with resolution of 320 x 240 pixels capable of displaying up to 16.7 million colours, multimedia player, FM Radio, handwriting recognition support and a 5-way navi-key. The handset also has a 3.2 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and 8x digital zoom. The phone comes with 64MB of internal memory, which can of course be expanded upto 8GB with microSD cards. There is a 3.5mm jack for earphones. Strangely enough, Wi-Fi or 3G support is missing although EDGE is there.

The one thing that sets Nokia 6208 Classic apart from other phones in the category is that the device is based on S40 platform. The phone will be priced at Rs. 13,259 in India.

Beside trying to cash on the current popularity of these devices, the Finnish cellphone maker is aiming to generate revenue from applications specific to these devices. It is note worthy that recently the company launched its much hyped Ovi app store in some countries and intends to expand these online stores to further countries too. What is more Nokia is planning to release sub 10K touch screen models soon.

Samsung Launches 3 Touch Screen Mobiles Star, Star3G And Beat DJ In India

Samsung India has launched three touchscreen cell phones in the country. Samsung Star, Star 3G and Beat DJ are now a part of an array of 7 touch screen phones offered by the company in Indian market. Let us look at the features of each phone in detail.

Samsung Star (S5233) is a 11.9 mm compact phone sporting a 7.63 cm WQVGA full-touch screen. There is a feature called Photo Contact using which one can call a contact by simply touching an image. A stylus is added too. The phone has an impressive 3.2 mega-pixel feature-rich camera with smile recognition. Gesture Control is another feature that the company has started to equip its latest cellphones with. Using Gesture Control one can unlock the Touch Screen or run an application by giving a gesture command.

This phone supports 50MB internal memory which is expandable up to 8GB through memory card. Samsung’s TouchWiz User Interface is another feather in its cap. The phone has music recognition capability utilizing Shazam’s "Find Music" service. There is virtual QWERTY keyboard for messaging and handwriting features. Samsung Star 3G also shares some nifty features of Star S5233 like Gesture control and camera. On internal memory front, this phone has slightly more (80 MB) of internal memory that is again expandable to 8 GB. This device offers full Internet browsing support with an accelerometer sensor for auto-rotation. The phone is 3G compatible. This handset is priced at slightly higher at Rs. 14,499/-.

Samsung BEAT DJ handset to comes with touch screen and sports intuitive and easy to use DISC User Interface. The cell phone has 2.8-inch AMOLED touchscreen display (240 x 400 pixels with 16 million colors). Beat DJ has 50MB internal memory expandable up to up to 16GB. This 3G compatible handset is priced at Rs 18,990/-.

Samsung is eying the big and growing touch screen mobiles market both in high-end and mid size segments. That is why over the past few months the company has released a wide array of cellphones in different markets including Asia, Europe and Latin America. So far as India is concerned, Samsung seems to be in a mood to invest heavily in the country. Economic Times reports that in this calendar the company plans to invest a whopping $5 million at its manufacturing facility in the country. Moreover, Samsung has plans to launch 2 dozen new models in early 2009 and has made it clear that it is taking up 3G and touch screen segment in a big way.

Microsoft Pink Touch Screen Cellphone Will Compete With iPhone ?

Microsoft the software giant is coming up with a touch screen phone Ppink modeled after its music player Zune just like iPhone was crafted on the lines of iPod. After the wild success of iPhone, many companies have tried and still trying to come up with a touch screen phone that could rival iPhone. Some notable products are HTC Pro, Nokia N96, Blackberry Storm and many more. Some of the cellphones have features that even surpass those in iPhone.

Microsoft Pink project mat well be an attempt in that direction. Although Zune comes nowhere near iPod in terms of sales and popularity, nobody can say for sure how things will turn out when this new touch screen mobile phone is launched early next year (2010).

The company is reportedly in talks with Verizon wireless for the purpose. With Pink Microsoft aims to extend its Windows Mobile operating system by adding new software capabilities. WSJ.com reports that Microsoft may come up with Windows Marketplace for Mobile, an online store for mobile downloads, to rival Apple's App Store. There are also reports that the company will only be involved in design of the device and manufacturing will be in hands of a third party.

Since not many details are available yet, it remains to be seen how Microsoft Pink mobile will be able to compete with the product that has a cult following.

Samsung Launches Two More Touchscreen Cellphones Star S5230 and Preston S5600

These days more and more cellphones with touchscreen are coming up. Every mobile company is bringing up with its own model sporting touchscreen. The stress these days is to enhance the responsiveness and ease of this user interface. Samsung in past has come up with some touchscreen models like S8300 UltraTouch, Sch-W740 Haptic and Pixon M8800 . But it seems like the company sees a huge market for these devices and thus is releasing ever new models. Latest offering by Samsung has two touchscreen phones, Star S5230 and Preston S5600.

Star S5230 and Preston S5600 share some similarities in terms of features like both mobile phones have Samsung’s TouchWiz GUI, accelerometer to flip between portrait and landscape orientations, 3.2 megapixel camera and PMP functionality. But both phone have some unique features of their own so that they are appealing to different customers in global markets.

JK Shin, executive vice president and head of Mobile Communications division at Samsung Electronics says, "Samsung Star and Samsung Preston are significant additions to our full-touch screen mobile portfolio, featuring all the essential functions in one single device."

Samsung Star S5230 supports 2.5G networks. This cellphone boasts of a 3-inch WQVGA display and measures 11.9mm in thickness. The phone has internal storage of 50Mb expandable to 8GB via a memory card slot. Moreover the phone had on-screen QWERTY keyboard. The phone had capability to recognize handwriting. The “Photo Contact” option allows users to call a contact by simply touching an appointed image. The mobile phone comes Soft pink, Snow white and more colors. Company has launched Star S5230 in Europe, Middle East Africa, South East Asia, South West Asia and Latin America. This phone was released in UK with the name of Tocco Lite.

Samsung Preston S5600 supports 3G networks and has 7.2Mbps HSDPA connectivity. The cellphone comes with 80MB of standard memory expandable to 8GB through memory card. This device has 2.8 inch QVGA screen. Samsung Preston is available in Sweet pink, Snow white, and Charcoal Grey colors. The phone is available in Europe and Asia.

There is no word on pricing yet but the popularity can be gauged by the fact that Samsung has already pre-orders for two million handsets.

Nokia XpressMusic Star Trek edition will come with four screensavers, three wallpapers and eight brand new ringtones. What is more, the cellphone will also integrate a Phaser application. The users can choose from blue, red, and black/silver color handsets.

The mobile phone will be exclusively available at Phones 4U from 1 May 2009. The device will also be available through Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile and Orange with the equivalent of a $32.87/month contract.

Virgin Mobile India, the mobile service provider, has launched vJazz handset targeted towards youth. The cellphone is out and out an entertaining device as it comes with free full-track music from downloads up to one year. The users will be able to choose from a basket of around 100,000 Bollywood, Regional and International songs of different genres.

vJazz boasts of many goodies. The display of handset consists of a 2.0" large 262K TFT color screen. The cellphone is WAP enabled that lets you surf the web and also you can use the phone as modem. The cellphone comes with 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, FM radio with stereo headset, MP3 Player , Video capture & Playback, Speaker phone. The mobile phone has VBytes that lets you download wallpapers, ring tones and games.

What is more, vJazz can store up to 1000 SMSs and has a phone book of 1000. The battery gives a talk time of up to 330 minutes and standby time of up to 310 hours. This new offering by Virgin Mobile comes with 1 GB storage card that can be expanded to 2 GB so that you never run out of space to store songs.

MTNL 3G Service Jadoo In Mumbai By May

Government owned telecom operator MTNL is going to launch its 3g services in Mumbai by coming May. The service branded Jadoo will bring high speed internet access from mobiles, laptops and other devices. Before this Mahanagar Telephone Services Ltd. has already launched the same service in some parts of New Delhi.

Compatible with 3G enabled mobile phones, laptops or notbooks, this service will bring the fast data transmission, video streaming and downloading to the users. What is more, with the launch of this service, a whole new world of rich multimedia experience open up to everyone.

The operator aims to bring 100,000 customers under its banner by the end this year. What is more, MTNL also plans to expand its 3G service plans to launch its 3G services in Bangalore, Chennai and other cities soon in coming months.

It is noteworthy that this is a delayed launch by MTNL as the operator had planned to launch its Jadoo service in Mumbai by February only.
