It is the ultimate test of man and machine that combines factory backed works teams and drivers with wealthy and often very fast gentleman racers in fully fledged prototypes and production derived GT cars. Since the introduction of the Hypercar category a few years ago, the event has had a capacity grid and with 62 cars this year was no exception. The field consisted mainly of full season FIA WEC entrants and automatic invites who earned their position on the grid through achievements in other championships during the previous season. Many manufacturers are represented among the new arrivals in 2025 was the Aston Martin Valkyrie Hypercar and the Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the LMGT3 category. It was round three of the six-round championship that started in Barcelona and will also visit Imola and Estoril later in the year. The participants of this year's edition came with fresh memories from a wet Spa Classic that was run just two weekends earlier. As had been the case during the last few editions, the Group C and Endurance Racing Legends grids were missing as they do not suit the classic, undulating <i>Circuit de Dijon-Prenois</i>. The earlier machines from grids like the Sixties' Endurance and Classic Endurance Racing are perfectly at home on the track in the French Bourgogne region. Spread over ten categories over 400 historic racing cars were entered this year ranging from a 1950 Aston Martin right through to the Porsche and Ferrari GT2 from the late noughties. In addition to the sports car grids, touring cars also take centre stage with a special night race for the Heritage Touring Cup. This is a nod to the period during which the Spa 24 Hours was run for touring cars. There was also time in the busy schedule for members of enthusiast clubs to take to the track with their cars. Among the cars exercised during the weekend was a fabulous Lamborghini Miura S.<br /> Needless to say, the conditions were changeable throughout the weekend but this did not affect the action on track too much. The ever busy schedule will also feature the Festival of Speed in front of the House and the Revival Meeting, which is also held on the Motor Circuit. In many respects, the Members' Meeting is a more relaxed version of the Revival without the strict 1966 cut-off and associated dress codes, and also without the massive crowds that have visited the circuit every September since 1998. Much like the Festival of Speed, the Members' Meeting celebrates the full history of motorsport. This broad range was exemplified this year by the S.F. As the name suggests, the three-day event evokes the spirit of the races held on the streets of the hill that towers over the Catalan capital. Between 1969 and 1975, the temporary circuit hosted the Spanish Grand Prix three times. To mark those occasions, there were three Formula 1 cars from this era prominently on display in the paddock. On track, the action focused on the ten Peter Auto grids consisting of sports cars and touring cars from the early 1950s through to the late 2000s. Over 300 cars took to the track during the weekend, which included two freshly restored Porsche 917Ks, two Audi R8s and an ex-Prodrive Ferrari 550 GTS Maranello.<br /> It was not by accident that Barcelona was chosen as the season opener. So much more than just a car show, it is also very much a social event where enthusiasts from around the world gather to catch up. As a result, Paris is the centre of the classic car world for a week in February every year. This means that the exhibitors, enthusiast car clubs and vendors have to meet the high expectations. They rarely falter and this year was certainly no exception with fascinating machinery being displayed across the three halls of the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Centre that are filled by the Retromobile Show. Located in the beautiful Cascais region of Portugal, the <i>Circuito do Estoril</i> is a classic track that has become a favourite with the drivers. While we experienced the expected beautiful weather during the previous editions, the 2024 Estoril Classics had more changeable conditions with some rain showers and early morning fog. That certainly did not dampen the spirits as the busy schedule went on uninterrupted. Befitting to a season finale, the Estoril Classics included all the familiar Peter Auto grids except for Group C, which already had its last races of the year at the Dix Mille Tours. Run over six hours into the night on of the world's greatest circuits with a bumper grid, the event is a real test of man and machine. The actual six-hour race on Saturday evening is the culmination of a busy week of track action with a total of 13 different race groups, covering the entire spectrum of historic racing from the early pre-War cars right to the Masters Endurance Legends, which have only just retired from contemporary racing. Particularly impressive was the grid of the Masters Racing Legends with close to 30 Grand Prix cars from the 1970s and early 1980s. The <i>Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps</i> also lived up to its expectations with changeable weather conditions.
