After a month of nothing but the Hallmark Channel, a big budget superhero movie for dummies was almost a relief. In this episode we're joined by our buddy (and Jason Momoa superfan) Kate to review Aquaman.

According to today's movie we reviewed from the Hallmark Channel, cookie crawl prep would take weeks on end. In today's episode we review Christmas Joy.

At first, Joy is focused solely on helping her Aunt heal; even taking over her position as chair of the local Cookie Crawl competition. Eventually, she begins to let Ben in and remembers there's no place like home for the holidays. The pair work together on the Cookie Crawl to make the event a success."

Just kidding. It's just another adaptation of the Grinch, this time without the horrifying Jim Carrey prosthetics. 

"A Bride for Christmas" is a 2012 Hallmark Christmas movie about a woman who leaves guys at the alter being courted by a guy who can't commit. Aside from the guy getting teased by his guy friends for an inability to commit (a conversation that's never happened in the history of guys hanging out), but one of the character jokingly says she's gay in the first ten minutes.

That may not be odd for real life or even a normal movie, but in the Hallmark universe, this sort of thing is rare. They never say whether she was being honest or joking and this really bothered Elizabeth for some reason. She goes on an Internet crusade mid-episode to figure out whether or not the character was actually gay. 

Do we ever get to the bottom of a single supporting character's sexual orientation? Tune into find out.

Edmund is all business and thinks Christmas is superficial and frivolous. But there is something about him. This one has a damn inn in the title. 

In our latest we review "Snowed Inn Christmas." Here's the description from IMDB: 

"Jenna Hudson (Bethany Joy Lenz) and Kevin Jenner (Andrew Walker) are polar opposites working for the same online publication in New York City. With both having nowhere they want to be for Christmas, they volunteer for a special writing assignment. After a snowstorm forces their plane to land in none other than Santa Claus, Indiana, the two are placed in a Christmas Wonderland and the focus of their story shifts to saving the historic town inn run by Carol and Christopher Winters. As the two overcome their differences, they also rediscover the magic of Christmas. But with the inn's fate in jeopardy and the return of someone from Jenna's past, Carol and Christopher lend a helping hand to bring Jenna and Kevin together."

Or at least that's what this movie would have you think. 

In the latest episode in our 2018 25 Days of Christmas, we review Desperately Seeking Santa. Here's the IMDB description: 

"Jennifer, a young, ambitious executive running promotions at a failing Boston mall comes up with a genius promotional gimmick to save her workplace and position herself for advancement: hold a "Hunky Santa" contest to replace the old Mall Santa. David, a local man trying to save his family's pizzeria, ultimately wins the contest and sparks fly between him and Jennifer. However, complications ensue when it comes to light that the company Jennifer works for is the same one trying to run David's family out of business."

The We Just Saw A Movie 25 Days of Christmas! 

It's our third annual edition of the 25 Days and we're back with more (mostly bad) Christmas movie reviews. We kick things off with the 2016 Hallmark movie Christmas on the Homestead. Here's the description from IMDB: 

"Life is turned upside down for the handsome mayor of Homestead when a movie comes to shoot there in the middle of the Christmas season. And when the movie's leading lady starts falling for him, things get a whole lot more complicated."

This latest retelling of the classic tale has all the things you've come to know and love about the Robin Hood mythos. Staples of the legend like leather jackets, machine gun cross bows, wildly varying accents, bridges made of reinforced steel, and lots of plot points ripped directly from Batman. You know, everything you'd expect to appear in an English village between the years 800-1200, A.D.

We're surprised a Terminator didn't show up. 

This movie was bad if you don't know anything about Harry Potter, and probably worse if you do. The only crime committed here was JK Rowling's nightmare of a script. 

In today's episode we review the latest offering from JK Rowling's Wizarding World, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

If you like movies with 1,800 main characters and countless subplots, boy are you in luck with this gem. 

Warning: as he gets warmed up, Mike does a fair amount of yelling in this one. It's always good to get worked up about stupid stories intended for children. (That's the thing though, this really wasn't! But it should have been!) 

Or at least, it was the Internet's favorite thing until the Toy Story 4 trailer dropped. 

We talk about the trailer, the career of Ryan Reynolds, whether or not the Proposal was a softcore adult film, and the time Elizabeth went hunting for Pokemon in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. 

As far as movies about dragon tattoed heroines go, this one had to be near the top. 

We're not going to sugar coat this one. It sucked. 

And try as she might - and believe you me, she tried her damndest and almost made it watchable - even the wonderfully talented and funny Tiffany Haddish couldn't salvage this train wreck. 

There was also a crazy guy in the theater who kept responding to the people in the movie as if they were talking to him. We talk to that guy as well. Wish we could have had him on as a guest, but you'll have to settle for Mike's impression of him. 

Mike comments on how much the movie's antagonist freaked him out. 

Also, the word "Yubaba" is said over and over again. Try saying it yourself. It's a blast. 

In this episode, Mike breaks down the trailer for Tyler Perry's A Madea Family Funeral. He talks about the movie HE would make - and rest assured, it's wildly different than what we ended up with. 

Tyler Perry, if you're listening: let us know if you still want to make this happen. It's not too late. 

The one thing this movie has going for it? More realms than most. 

It's unclear who this movie was supposed to appeal to, but we do our best to figure out why it got made. We also dive into a bit more talk on Bohemian Rhapsody.

But was it any good? 

In this episode we review Tom Hardy's Venom. We talk about the film itself as well as Tom Hardy's career in general - Elizabeth isn't a fan, Mike is.

Elizabeth gets a fit of the giggles in this episode, and thankfully, we never really recover. This one covers little about the trailer for Shazam and involves Elizabeth trying to talk through her own laughter. 

Highlights include Elizabeth thinking this is a remake of Kazam and both of us discussing the possibility of an "-Azam Cinematic Universe." 

Mike also explains the concept of Skrulls to Elizabeth, leading us to speculate what her reaction will be to a Marvel film that includes one of her favorite movie features (bodyswapping). 

We talk about the movie, Mike's favorite film in The Dark Knight Trilogy, the way Elizabeth alerted Mike to the re-release, and about some innovations in the moviegoing experience.  

Towards the end of the episode we introduce a new concept known as the "We Just Saw A Movie Anger Hall of Fame," or films that made us so angry after we saw them, we walked out of the theater angry. 

Mike reviews The Happytime Murders and tells you exactly where this movie slipped up.  He also goes on a rant about the 2012 sci-fi piece of garbage Prometheus, with a bonus rant on what he'd do if encountered with a human version of the film. It's not pretty. 

We discuss the film's "plot." Or at least SOMEONE thought it was a plot. 

We also go into the film's general lack of scariness. 

Mike asks the question: what is a Duke? 

We go over an advance seating controversy we witnessed at the showing we went to. 

Finally, Mike puts on his old man hat to talk about how he narced on some kids sitting on the theater stairs. 

It proves to be anything about that. 

This one's wide ranging. We discuss the trailer (Mike hated it, Elizabeth thought it looked lame) as well as JLo's career, how perfect her and A-Rod are for each other, the performance of Jamie Foxx in Django Unchained, and the emergency of "post-comedy comedy" and why Mike has a problem with that.
