NDLEA arrests man and seizes ‘cocaine candies’,

Police salvage 'winged creature womofficials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have seized 2.605 kilograms of cocaine pressed as confections.

       The org likewise captured a 52-year-old man, Onyejiaju Augustine, who was the manager of the cocaine confections.

        The NDLEA representative, Michelle Ofoyeju, said the seizure and the capture were made at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while the suspect was attempting to pirate the cocaine out of the nation. Read more after the cut ....

      An elderly woman escaped lynching on Wednesday after being accused of being a bird and witch in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State.

      According to residents of Ojo Road, where the purported transformation took place, the woman was a black bird before suddenly turning into a human being.

     An eyewitness, Chike, said he was sitting in front of a compound with his girlfriend when they saw three black birds flying.

     He said it seemed as if the birds were involved in a fight and as he was watching, suddenly, one of the birds fell into a moving van belonging to the Eko Electricity Distribution Company while the other two flew away.

He said, “The bird suddenly turned to an old woman of about 80. People were shocked as they saw the woman rolling on the road and blood gushing out from her forehead.

“When the crowd was interrogating her, she said she was a witch and that she came from Ibadan for a meeting in Lagos but as they were returning home they missed their way and wasted so much time hovering in the area till daybreak. The woman claimed she fell because she was tired of flying.”

It was learnt that as the woman was about to be lynched, the traditional ruler of Layeni Community, Baale Rafiu Olayeni, arrived the scene and pleaded with the angry people not to take laws into their hands.

    Olayeni told our correspondent that he called the Divisional Police Officer of Layeni Police Division, CSP Chijioke Ndu, and he drafted anti- robbery policemen to the scene, rescued the woman and took her to the station.

Hundreds of spectators were said to have followed them to the station.

The traditional leader said, “People told me the woman fell down as a bird but I did not believe them. I had to rescue the old woman before the mob lynches her as they claimed she was a witch. Sometimes the reasoning of old people could be compared to that of a small child because of the effects of old age.”

At the station, however, the police found it difficult to control the mammoth crowd that had come to see the alleged witch.

It was learnt that the DPO had to call for reinforcement from Ajegunle and Amukoko divisions before he could handle the crowd as some people were bent on lynching the woman.

The policemen were said to have fired tear gas at the crowd and dispersed them from the station.

It was learnt that the woman was subsequently transferred to the Area B Command in Apapa for further investigation.

It was gathered that this was the seventh lynching the police had prevented this month.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, could not be reached for comment.

By Lorraine's estimates, doubling her number will give you a more accurate picture of her past. "Women will say, 'That one didn't count,' because it only lasted a few minutes, they were really drunk, or never saw the guy again, even though it really was sex,"

4. "I don't want anything for our anniversary."
Yeah, and you don't really want to win the lottery. "We're saying what we think our partner wants to hear," says Barash. "But then the resentment builds." Translation: Your wife may scoff at the idea of a gift, but still expects you to surprise her with a dozen roses and the purse she's been lusting after. "We don't want to seem needy or demanding," says Lorraine. "It's silly, but we want our partner to read our minds. We assume he's intuitive enough to know we do want a gift." (Heading for the altar?

5. "I'm in no hurry to have kids."
Guess again. Maybe she's not gunning to get pregnant ASAP, but somewhere in her brain, there's a clock counting down. "Women know men don't like to be rushed--that if we try to push them, they're just going to be turned off," says Lorraine. "So we act like we're cool, like our biological clocks aren't ticking. But, really, once we hit a certain age, we're freaking out inside, worrying our eggs are expiring soon." Even if your wife is only 25, she still has a timeline in mind, no matter how "go with the flow" she seems.

6. "I'm totally cool with your poker nights."
Not always. Your guys' nights may give her permission to binge-watch Scandal, but she won't be so receptive if you hold one every weekend. "It's in a woman's biological nature to want a committed partner, and to want to be around him a lot," says Lorraine. Problem is, women know men relish their freedom--and that commandeering every night of your week can push you away. "No woman wants to seem needy," says Barash. "So she won't be totally honest about her feelings toward your commitments, or what she expects from you time-wise."

7. "I wouldn't change anything about you."
She totally would. If your wife sounds like a Hallmark card, she probably is genuinely expressing her love--just with a little exaggeration. "When it comes to the big picture, women will rarely rock the boat, especially in a committed relationship," says Barash. "But the fact is, she wishes you'd lose 10 pounds, maybe 20, had a different job, or weren't so cheap." But according to her mental calculations, she has more to gain by keeping her mouth shut--and the relationship happy--than by complaining.
