Four Issues in the first DriveTime of 2019

1. NHS Long Term Plan (overview)– The NHS has just published its new 10-year plan – it’s the way it intends to use the extra money that the Government committed in the summer (3.4% a year over the next 5 years compared with 2.2% over the last 5!). It’s 137 pages long but it can be boiled down to seven key aspects:-

Fixing A&E Wait Times – same day visits up from 20% to 33%
Earlier Detection of Cancer – at the moment early detection is around 50%; the goal is to get that up to at least 75%
Care in the Community – early discharge, pooling budgets, and primary care budgets to be increased for the first time in years!
Digital Revolution – digital technology and wearables offer massive benefits
Personalised Medicine – smarter medicines can be tailored to individual circumstances
Wellbeing – to stop people needing the health service!
Mental Health – significantly improved access.

It’s a hugely ambitious plan; but they’ve done the easy bit, now they have to implement it! The theory is done, now it’s down to practice!

2. NHS Long Term Plan (Locally)

It’s been analysis paralysis in our area for the last five years! First there was “Your Care Your Future”; then that was rolled into the Sustainability & Transformation Plan (with E&N Herts and West Essex); now they’ve re-invented the wheel for the third time. But the core problems are still there:-

Poor Estate – the facilities that we have in West Herts
Workforce limitations – for example the lack of GPs and Nurses
Lack of Capital Funding – to sort out the hospital situation locally
Poor Use of IT – the digital revolution is all very well but they’re still using faxes!
Fragmentation – issues like Nascot Lawn and competitive tendering have made collaboration difficult.

As ever – the devil’s in the detail!

3. Colds, Flu and Complications

This is the time of year for colds, flu and the complications that come from them. The problem we have is that we typically don’t know how serious they are! So here are some very useful web sites

For Complications - https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/chest-infection/the most common issue is whether it’s caused by a virus (e.g. Bronchitis) or bacteria (e.g. Pneumonia).

4. Public Meeting on Hospitals

There’s an open meeting at the Stanborough Centre in St Albans Road, Watford, to discuss the latest position on the plan for Watford, St Albans and Hemel Hospitals; it will take place on 29 January from 7pm to 9pm. The event, organised by West Hertfordshire Hospitals Trust and Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Group will share details of how the options for hospital development are shaping up and will explain the process for evaluating and shortlisting options.

1. Hospital Waiting List Fines

West Herts Hospital Trust (“WHHT”) has been fined £888,000 by our local Clinical Commissioning Group because patients are waiting too long for planned and elective surgery – these fines are in respect of APR and MAY this year; further fines are likely to be levied at around £500K a month for the rest of the year.

How ridiculous is this? True, waiting times need to be improved and steps need to be taken to address the issue; but this is really the result of years of under-funding and that can hardly be fixed by imposing fines. In effect our Commissioning Group is saying “we’re fining you for not investing the money we haven’t given you over the last three years!”. But there is good news for WHHT – they’re getting an extra £11m to fix A&E!

2. Stay Well This Winter

Some strong tips to help you stay well this winter

If you start to feel unwell, even if it is just a cough or cold, don’t wait until it gets more serious – get help from your pharmacist.
If you have a long-term health condition like COPD (lung diseases), bronchitis, emphysema, diabetes, heart or kidney disease, or have suffered a stroke, get advice from your pharmacist or GP on how to keep well during the colder months.
Remember to pick up your prescription before the Christmas holidays start. Many GPs and pharmacies will close over the holiday period.
NHS 111 will help you get the right medical attention urgently or visit www.nhs.ukwhich can direct you to a local service that is open during the holiday period.
Older neighbours, relatives, friends and other elderly members of the community are more vulnerable in the winter months and may need a bit of extra help this winter, so make sure you keep in touch.
It is important to keep warm in winter, both inside and out as it can help to prevent colds, flu and more serious health problems, such as heart attacks, strokes, pneumonia and depression.

3. NHS 111

The third instalment (of three!) on NHS 111. We’ve covered the general service, we had Health Advisor Beverley Squirrel (we would probably refer to her as a call handler) in the studio last month and this month we’re covering the support behind those call handlers.

Because this is the critical point about 111 – there’s a full service team available 24 hours a day – it’s not just the call handler and a computer as we heard last month from Beverley. There’s a 24hr GP, as well as a Pharmacist, a Dental Nurse, other Nurses and a Paramedic who assist with complex cases.

Talking to the Hatfield Rotary Club a couple of weeks ago there was universal agreement that the 111 service is exceptional! So our special thanks to the team and best wishes for Christmas.

Homeless people
This issue has been notable on St Peters Street recently so what is the local councils position on this?

If you're already homeless, or likely to become homeless within the next 8 weeks you can apply for help getting somewhere to live from your local council. This is known as making a homeless application.

The council will look into your situation to decide what help they might be able to give you. There isn't a set time to get a decision, but there shouldn't be an unreasonably long delay.

The kind of policy you buy, or even if you buy it at all, turns on how much you're spending on the big day and what kind of wedding you've planned.

Becky had visited the Christmas Market at the Vintry Gardens and was impressed with the busy atmosphere and array of gifts on sale. There are plenty of foodie delights on offer; mulled wine, mulled cider and giant marshmallows in particular! The Market is open until Saturday 22 December.

New cafe and restaurant openings in St Albans include a new coffee shop 'Nkora' in the Market Square and a Mexican restaurant 'Benito's Hat' taking up some of the site which was previously Jamie's.

There is also a new branch of Turkish restaurant Tabure opening soon in Harpenden.

Becky will be joining us on the first Tuesday of every month to share and discuss local food news.

On today's show Julie O'Shea from The Courtyard Cafe joined us on the radio to talk about their latest exhibition "Different Views" featuring her work and the work of local artist Bridget Tompkins.

The exhibition comprises a variety of paintings on display in the main cafe and the rear dining room. The art is available for sale and the exhibition runs until the 22nd of December. The cafe is open Tuesday to Saturday 8;30am - 4:30pm. Also on display is their "Muriel", a collaborative effort buy Julie and Bridget.

Christmas Trends with @GA_interiors

Gwendoline Alderton came in to talk about this years Christmas trends.

Gwendoline advised that generally all things 'wonderfully white' are on trend, but to avoid this looking sterile you can add glitter and different textures.

Blush pink is also popular and can be blended with either white or grey tones. Some lovely soft pink sofas are in the shops at the moment, and for materials velvet is very popular. For Christmas you can add pink to your gold decorations to be current and stylish.

You can also combine pink and red to give a warm, Moroccan, spicy feel.

For Christmas the two particular types of decoration on trend are tin and metal Mexican themes. Or if you want glamour go for plastic decorations like flamingos and peacocks in mixed materials.

A green Christmas tree is the way to go this year.

Invading Mars

A new mission called InSight will land on Mars tonight at 8 pm (GMT), with coverage starting at the end of the West Herts Drivetime show at 7 pm on NASA TV, for links see below. The mission is a lander, a stationary laboratory rather than a rover, as being stationary is actually key to the science goals.

InSight is short for Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport and it’s science goals are: “The first is to examine the interior — what it is made of, and what processes occur. The lander will provide information on the size and composition of the Martian core, crust and mantle. It also will show "how warm the interior is and how much heat is still flowing through," NASA said. The second goal is to learn if Mars is tectonically active (including where seismic activity is located), and how frequently meteorites slam into its surface.”

“Nasa expects Mars to have a metal core, a dense mantle, and a lighter crust, but they are not sure precisely where the boundaries of these layers will be found.”

£50 note to have a scientist

Nominations are still open until 14^th December but a list has been released today of the nominations so far.

To be considered, the individual must be real, deceased and have contributed to the field of science in the UK.

Scientists who have inspired Sam:

Caroline Hershel (1750 – 1848) Born in Hanover, Germany in 1750, Caroline was only permitted a rudimentary education, prepared for a life in service. However, after her father’s death she moved to Bath, England to be with her brother William. Both of them initially pursued careers in music, but astronomy became a night-time hobby, and after a series of unsuccessful musical performances they took up astronomy full time. Working closely to support her brother, including developing better astronomical instruments, she became a successful astronomer in her own right. She discovered eight new comets, and contributed around 500 deep sky objects to what became the New General Catalogue, a classification system that is still used today. Caroline was the first woman in England be appointed to an official government position, and first woman to receive a salary for her scientific work (a sum of £50 per year!). She was also the first woman to be awarded Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society.

Hertha Ayrton (1854 – 1923) had a rebellious personality, which was noticed by her teachers and classmates. Her cousins introduced her to science and maths. She studied at Cambridge, where she was successful in gaining a patent for a sphygmomanometer (s-fig-mo-man-ometer), a blood pressure meter. She led the choral society, founded the all-women Girton College fire brigade and co-founded a mathematical club. During her life, she registered 26 patents. She also worked in embroidery and teaching. Hertha won the Hughes Medal by the Royal Society for her work on electric arcs. She also conducted research about the formation of ripples in sand and water. Furthermore, she helped found the International Federation of University Women and the National Union of Scientific Workers.

Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin (1900 – 1979) was an English-American astronomer and proved in her 1925 doctoral thesis that Hydrogen is the principal component of stars, using data collected by Annie Jump Cannon. This work was considered at the time to be the most brilliant thesis ever written in astronomy. However, despite the evidence she had found, her work was reviewed by Henry Russell and he dissuaded her from her original conclusion as it went against the ideas of the time. He is often credited with the discovery when he came to the same conclusion after getting repeat results by a different method which he published four years later. Cecilia was an inspired seamstress, an inventive knitter, and a voracious reader as well as the first woman to be promoted to professor at Harvard University and, later, the first female Chair of the Department of Astronomy.

Night Sky This Month(s), December and January

“The Geminids is the king of the meteor showers. It is considered by many to be the best shower in the heavens, producing up to 120 multicolored meteors per hour at its peak. It is produced by debris left behind by an asteroid known as 3200 Phaethon, which was discovered in 1982. The shower runs annually from December 7-17. It peaks this year on the night of the 13th and morning of the 14th. The first quarter moon will set shortly after midnight leaving dark skies for what should be an excellent early morning show. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Gemini, but can appear anywhere in the sky.”

It’s a retro-futuristic sound – imagining the sound of the future of jazz as it was perceived in the past. We’re privileged to have this excellent band on a short UK visit.

Why your insurer might refuse your claim

Your insurer may refuse to pay your claim because:
the policy was not in force when what you're claiming for happened
the policy is invalid because you didn't tell the truth when you applied for insurance or failed to disclose something which could affect your claim (for policies taken out, renewed or changed before 6 April 2013)
the policy is invalid because you deliberately or carelessly withheld information or misled your insurers (for policies taken out, renewed or changed after 6 April 2013)
the item is not covered by your policy
there is an exclusion clause in the policy which means that you can't claim for what's happened
you've missed some of the installments of your premium
you didn't tell your insurer about a change in your circumstances
you haven't followed the claims process correctly
you haven't kept to a condition of your policy
you have exaggerated the claim and are trying to claim for more than you should.

Your insurer must give you a reason for refusing to pay your claim. Check the details of your policy carefully to make sure that their decision is reasonable.

Banking – security and fraud

Contact your bank or building society straight away if you're worried someone might have access to your account. For example, if your:
card or security details have been lost or stolen
statement shows payments you don't recognise
card has reached its limit or account has gone into overdraft - and you weren't expecting it

Stacey Turner came in to update us on the ‘It’s Okay to Say’ campaign and discuss Mental Health issues generally.

Stacey last came in 4 weeks ago to launch the campaign which, as well as shining a light on children’s’ mental health, reaches out to everyone to reassure them that there is support available. She reinforced the message that the more we can talk about mental health issues, the more we can remove any stigma from it.

The Herts Advertiser is supporting the campaign and Stacey told us that since last Thursday’s issue was published there has been an incredible response, with people contacting both the paper and Stacey herself.

Having worked with both children and adults who have found it difficult to express themselves Stacey has needed to think outside the box. She explained how she works with a local Thai Boxing champion, Ciarain Shanahan, to help kids who are struggling to talk about their mental health issues. Any combat sport, she says, is non-verbal therapy and reaches out to children in a way that is not intimidating. Stacey explained how it can help people untangle their thoughts, and make them more resilient.

Stacey will be back in the studio on Monday 3 December to give us a further update.

Today Sam was joined in the studio by Jo Ramasawmy, a scientist in her third year of her PhD studies focussing on galactic evolution. We talked about her work and she explained about the different types of galaxies and how they are affected by active super massive black holes and star formation.

Sam talked about the recent emergency landing by the Soyuz spacecraft, currently the only means of getting astronauts and cosmonauts into space, mainly to get to and from the International Space Station. The Russian space agency, Roscosmos, will not fly a manned mission on the Soyuz until it conducts at least three successful robotic (unmanned) missions. Incidently, it was the first (almost) journey into space for the American Nick Hague, relying on colleague cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin for the 'feeling' of what was right in his first real lift off experience. It soon became clear something was wrong and they made a safe emergency landing later that day.

Today we talked to Doug Freeman from 'The Goldhawks' about their new show 'Quadrophenia the album- Live' This show is a recreation of the album Quadrophenia by the Who. This nationwide tour started in August and will run until November 2019, with over 70 tour dates to go. It is completely faithful to the original 1973 album, the Who's fifth album overall and second rock opera, and everything you hear will be live.

Quadrophenia Live will be performed at Harpenden Public Halls on the 24th October and at the Radlett Centre on the 25th October.

1. New Hospital for St Albans?

Well, not quite; but here’s an update on the hospital situation. First a re-cap; after years of deliberation the proposal that went through was to

Upgrade Watford as an acute hospital;
Use St Albans for planned and elective care
Re-invent Hemel as a Health & Wellbeing Hub.

The clamour was for a centrally located new hospital! The case was made in a locally produced “Strategic Outline Case”. It’s taken a year for NHS England to respond and (presumably reacting to political pressure) they’ve come back saying the plan hasn’t taken account of population increase, and suggesting it relooks at a new hospital for planned and urgent care near Junction 8 of the M1 (the Hemel junction). There’s to be public consultation and the plan is to re-submit early in 2019.

2. Flu Jabs

We’re almost half way through the season and clinics are filling fast. You can get your jab at your Surgery or a Pharmacy near you.

You are eligible for a flu vaccination by injection if you are in one of the following categories:

Adults over 65 (i.e. born on or before MAR 31 1954
Other adults with an underlying health condition particularly long term heart or respiratory disease, diabetes, or weakened immune systems
Children (6 months to 2 years)
Pregnant women
Carers
Patients living in a care home
Patients with a learning disability

In addition, you are eligible for a flu vaccination by nasal spray if you are in one of the following categories

All children aged 2, 3, or 4
Children in Reception or Years 1 - 5
Children aged 4-18 years with an underlying health condition

3. The 111 number in Hertfordshire

If it’s a life-threatening emergency, call 999; otherwise, if you need help, call 111. But how would you know if it’s life-threatening or not? What do you do if you’re not sure which it is? The answer is simple – call 111. They can assess the urgency and arrange for an ambulance if that’s what’s needed. But 999 can’t put you through to 111!

We’re really lucky in Hertfordshire; we have one of the best 111 services in the country. And there are two factors behind that

The fully trained Call Handlers (generally referred to as Health Advisers; and
The in-house team of healthcare professionals that they can refer to.

Today’s Health Advisers have had extensive training and they’re not just reading off their Computer Screens. And to prove it, one of them (Beverley Squirrel) will be in the studio on next month’s Health Matters explaining what they do. Now I have to admit I had a real misconception about what they do until I met them recently – I thought they were diagnosing the condition. But they’re not; rather they are ‘assessing risk’, which means determining who is best placed to deal with it. And that could be a doctor, a dentist, a nurse or a Clinical Call Handler within the call centre who could be a paramedic or nurse–they’re all specialists in a dedicated team available to the 111 Call Handlers.

Finally, here’s a challenge; how many calls do you think will be made to the NHS 111 service in Hertfordshire next month? Answers on the blog please. To give you an idea, there were 25,990 last month and, as a result of those calls almost 2,000 unnecessary visits to A&E were prevented by being able to point them to the appropriate healthcare professional.

Today we were visited by Matt Adams from the Herts Advertiser and Stacey Turner, a leading anxiety specialist with 20 years experience, particularly with children and addressing such issues as Separation Anxiety. Matt and Stacey had come in to discuss a new campaign 'It's Okay to Say' which is being launched later this week on Wednesday 10 October; World Mental Health Day. The campaign has the backing of the Herts Advertiser.

Matt said said there has been a noticeable trend of mental health issues in the spotlight and the campaign aims to help children ranging from primary school age through to teenagers. It hopes to explore the key issues which affect sufferers and explore which measures could be put in place to help people and remove the stigma which can be associated with such problems.

The main message is to reassure people that is is OK to speak out about their problems, whatever they are, and to advise them about where to go to ask for help. Matt and Stacey hope this will help people feel better about themselves, and ask for help rather than struggling on through their issues.

A website www.itsokaytosay.org.uk will be launched later this week and will have a directory showing links to places that can help, be it NHS, private or Charity support.

Matt and Stacey will going out into the community and asking professionals to get involved, and have already received interest and offers of help from several organisations including St Albans Chamber of Commerce who are sponsoring the campaign. The Chamber has reported that from their own research they have learnt that 90% of millenials say they are more likely to stay with an employer or organisation who recognises the need to offer help with mental health issues. The Counselling Foundation has expressed interest in getting involved, as has District councillor mental health champion Anthony Rowlands.

There are plans to promote the campaign on social media and there will be series of events throughout the coming year.

Schools will be encouraged to get involved, and address mental health issues as early as possible in a bid to create 'more mentally healthy schools' which are nurturing towards children and their families.

Although the focus of the campaign will start in St Albans the aim is to extend it to other areas of Hertfordshire.

'The Sound of Music' by @radlettmtc at the Radlett Centre

Made popular by the 1965 film, this well known musical follows Maria, a young nun, as she takes care of the Von Trapp children in Austria in 1939. Containing hit songs such as 'Do Re Me' and 'My Favourite Things', this musical is a family favourite.

It’s that time of year again! Surgeries and Pharmacies have ordered the flu vaccine, and you should be able to book appointments online (with patient access) or through the surgery. At the Maltings, for example, flu clinics will be on the six consecutive Saturday mornings starting SEP 23 and ending on NOV 3; in addition, most surgeries will offer your flu vaccination at any appointment you have at the surgery during the flu season.

You are eligible for a flu vaccination by injection if you are in one of the following categories:

§ Adults over 65 (i.e. born on or before MAR 31 1954

§ Other adults with an underlying health condition particularly long term heart or respiratory disease, diabetes, or weakened immune systems

§ Children (6 months to 2 years)

§ Pregnant women

§ Carers

§ Patients living in a care home

§ Patients with a learning disability

In addition, you are eligible for a flu vaccination by nasal spray if you are in one of the following categories

§ All children aged 2, 3, or 4

§ Children in Reception or Years 1 - 5

§ Children aged 4-18 years with an underlying health condition

2. National Data Opt-Out

We’ve talked about your patient data and the national opt out before – you have the right to ensure that your data is not used for any reason beyond your direct care. If you’re in a situation in which you plan to opt out on behalf of someone else (e.g. a carer or a child) do it before the end of SEP! Because after that it’ll be much more difficult. Until then, your surgery can verify that you are able to opt out on behalf of someone else; from OCT 1 you will need to complete a 7 page return and provide at least 4 forms of ID to show that you are a responsible adult. If you need to, get in quick!!!!!

3. Your Heart Age

How healthy is your heart? Heart disease can be caused by factors we can modify (e.g. diet and smoking); but in most cases we can’t identify potential problems – until now. Take this simple heart test to check out how healthy your heart is – and what you can do about it!

4. NHS Symptom Checker

How often have you been in a situation in which something just feels odd; the problem is it’s often tough to figure out whether it’s urgent or not. 5. Drink-free Days

There’s been a lot of noise today about drink-free days; put simply – you know it makes sense. Here are three simple tricks you could try:-

Do more activities that don’t involve drinking;
Find other ways to unwind and relax;

Claiming compensation if your flight's delayed or cancelled

If you booked a flight that departed from Europe or was with a European airline, you might have rights under EU law if your flight is delayed or cancelled.

For the EU law to apply, you'll need to have departed from the UK, European Union (EU), Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.
If your flight’s delayed for 2 or more hours

Your airline have to give you:
food and drink
access to phone calls and emails
accommodation if you’re delayed overnight - and journeys between the airport and the hotel

The airline should give you vouchers to get these things at the airport. Ask someone who works for the airline if you’re not offered any help.

If they don’t give you help at the airport, keep receipts for expenses and try to claim from the airline later. Airlines only pay for ‘reasonable’ expenses - you won’t get money back for alcohol, expensive meals or luxury hotels.
If your flight’s delayed for 3 or more hours

You already have a legal right to food and drink, phone calls and accommodation - you get this when the flight is delayed for 2 hours or more.

You’re also entitled to get compensation if the delay is the airline’s responsibility - for example, if they didn’t get enough bookings or there was a technical fault.

You won’t get compensation if it was delayed because of something like bad weather or a strike.

You’re entitled to a set amount of compensation depending on:
the distance of the flight - check the flight distance on the WebFlyer website
the length of the delay - how late you are getting to your destination
whether you're flying to an EU or non-EU destination

The BlackBox Theatre Company present Julius Caesar at The Roman Theatre of Verulamium

Today we chatted to Amber, Freya and Emily from BlackBox Theatre about their latest production: Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare.

This production of Julius Caesar is set in Roman Britain, and seeks to demonstrate the savagery and political instability of the Ancient World. Although it still takes place in 44BC, the setting has been moved to the corner of the Roman empire, and shows the Celts and the Romans mixing and clashing.

This production will be performed at the Roman Theatre at Verulamium. BlackBox Theatre said they chose Julius Caesar after choosing the performance space, because they wanted a play that would bring out the ruins of the theatre and the crumbling walls.

BlacBbox theatre has been running for 2 years, and was set up by actors to create the performances they wanted to see themselves, and to provide opportunities for other creatives. They performed in the first ever drama performance at the Horn, where they put on 'Rabbit' by Nina Raine, which is set in a pub.

Julius Caesar will be performed at 6:30 on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th September at the Roman Theatre at Verulamium. Tickets are £13 and £10 for concessions.

1. Staying Well In The Heat

Hasn’t this warm spell been great? Or are you getting a little tired of the heat? There are lots of things you can do to ensure that you stay well in the heat such as:-

Shut windows and pull down the shades when it is hotter outside. You can open the windows for ventilation when it is cooler.
Avoid the heat: stay out of the sun and don't go out between 11am and 3pm (the hottest part of the day) if you're vulnerable to the effects of heat.
Have cool baths or showers, and splash yourself with cool water.
Drink cold drinks regularly, such as water and diluted fruit juice. Avoid excess alcohol, caffeine (tea, coffee and cola) or drinks high in sugar.
Make sure you have enough supplies, such as food, water and any medications you need.
Identify the coolest room in the house so you know where to go to keep cool.
Wear loose, cool clothing, and a hat and sunglasses if you go outdoors.
Check up on friends, relatives and neighbours who may be less able to look after themselves.

2. Horseflies

One of the consequences of this hot weather is an increase in insect bites – and especially from horseflies! Most insect bites can be simply treated at home – here’s the best advice!

But there are two critical points to watch out for:

· Anaphylactic shock – some people are allergic to stings and can develop life threatening conditions – 999 is for them!

· Horseflies - whilst most bites are relatively painless and clear up quickly on their own, the horsefly bite takes a chunk out of you, as well as sucking blood; they are noticeably more painful and more likely to get infected. See your pharmacist if you have a bite but if it gets infected seek medical help through your Surgery or 111 as soon as possible,

And to minimise the chance of a bite, clear, or avoid, standing water as much as possible.

3. Patient Access

We talked about Patient Records last month (and I can confirm I have finally received my opt out confirmation letter!), but this month I want to encourage you register for online access at your Surgery. There are three key benefits:-

Making appointments
Repeat Prescriptions; and
Seeing your Medical Records

Data shows that around 30% of patients in our area are registered; don’t be one of the 70%; see your surgery if you don’t already have access!

4. Donate a Kidney Event

It’s being held tomorrow night at the Verulamium Museum and it’s for anyone who would like more information on becoming a kidney donor – lives are transformed through kidney donorship and you can find out all about it at 7:00 pm at the Verulamium Museum.

5. NHS at 70 – The NHS, turned 70 on July 5^th, and, I’m doing the NHS 1000 mile challenge. The good news is that I’m half-way; the bad news is that I should be on 539 miles by now; I blame this hot weather!
