In an interview with Junebug Media, Speaker Pelosi stated: I want to express my gratitude to Janie Junebug's daughter-in-law, K. I felt incomplete without my gavel. Clearly, K is amazeballs. Now I can continue to serve the public and my fellow representatives. I've even taken off my mask so you can see my beautiful face. Now I want to invite the ladies of The China Cabinet to gather around me so they can view my beautiful gavel. They'll see how perfectly it rests in my hand.

Yes, Justice Ginsburg, we know you never lost your gavel. I was not responsible for the loss of mine. It went astray during the dusting tragedy on top of the pie safe that also led to the disappearance of Stacey Abrams' microphone. I would never misplace my gavel. Those who insist on moving me out of the way while using Old English Furniture Oil to clean house had better be more careful or I won't be able to clean house with the representatives!

Please pardon me for not visiting you of late. Princess and I have been busy.

I've felt well enough to work more. My last paycheck was $65, which is quite an improvement over the previous check of $7. I know it's not much, but I'm hanging on to my benefits. I have Medicare Part A, but I don't want to deal with the other parts of Medicare while the fuckmonkey remains in the White House, giggling gleefully over all the poor slobs who have to pay more for health insurance.

I didn't watch, but I know.

Florida is in a drought. We had some rain Friday, but we'll need a lot more before we can enjoy the sparkling waters of Lake Junebug at

I continue to hope Princess and I will be able to welcome guests this summer.

My birthday came and went during what our beloved Bob of I Should Be Laughing calls Fuckuary for good reason. Favorite Young Man and K spoiled me with cards and gifts, including a button that says Anti-Fascist As Fuck. FYM wrote in his card to me that I'm in my 30s. I texted him to say I don't have a problem with my real age, which is 107.

K says that one of my gifts hasn't arrived yet. She told me what it is. I'll reveal it to you after it arrives. Suffice it to say Nancy Pelosi will be thrilled when she sees it.

I had to get a new phone a few days ago. My old phone took forever to charge and then didn't hold the charge very long. Android Auto had also stopped working. I am Android Auto dependent in this huge city. Jacksonville is the largest city, geographically, of the 48 contiguous states. Because it was relatively inexpensive, I also got a smart watch in case of emergencies. For now, if I have an emergency, the watch is worthless because I can't figure out how it works. I can access its workings through the phone's screen so I'm sure I'll figure it out. It's charging on its little round thingy right now.

Princess and I had a meet and greet with a six-year-old male German Shepherd who needs a new home. I said no with some regret. He arrived at our home dragging his dad behind him. His current parents admitted he doesn't walk well on a leash. He was also twice the size of Princess. I would not be able to handle such a big, headstrong dog, but I was sad because Princess liked him. She invited him to play a few minutes after exchanging obligatory butt sniffs. I plan on filling out an application with a rescue for dogs of a different breed. I'll let you know what happens.

The philodendron in my backyard used to look like this:

Phil has been an important part of doggy playtime. It's fun to play chase around the big bush and to run underneath it. Hiding under it is exciting. A doggy can pretend to be in the jungle. It's a shady, cool spot during the summer. Best of all, you can dig a hole under there and Mom won't see you doing it and yell at you to stop.

But after our run of freezing temperatures, Phil looks like this:

It's warmer now. Our nights are still cool, but many days are sunny with temperatures in the 70s.

I didn't do much in the yard last year. This year I'm excited about planting new flowers. Maybe I can put flower pots on the front steps again. The old pots were broken by a galumphing Princess charging out the door. She's much more careful now.

I think she might like to train another dog in the niceties of living in our home.

The last time I had lunch with Princess' beloved Auntie Maureen, she told me, You know ICE was in Murray Hill –– my neighborhood.

No, I didn't. Maureen said agents had been all over a nearby Haitian church.

It's damned low to target people at their place of worship.

Or at schools or the grocery stores where they need to shop.

Pulling 700 agents out of Minnesota doesn't mean much when 2,000 remain.

I don't watch the stupor bowl. It's never made sense to me that it takes half an hour or more to play two minutes of a football game. But I watched the halftime show on YouTube Monday morning.

I'm not into Bad Bunny's music simply because I don't keep up with current music, not because something is wrong with it. I speak some Spanish, but even if I didn't, I would have known Bad Bunny's show was about inclusivity and love.

He made the point, gently, that America is more than the United States. The people who beat their chests and scream AMERICA FOR AMERICANS enjoy their blissful ignorance of all that America encompasses. If America is for Americans, then that includes Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Mexicans, Brazilians, Canadians . . . the list goes on and on.

The Monday morning show quarterbacks who said Bad Bunny was disgusting and stupid and they didn't understand a word he said forgot how to use the mystical, magical button on the remote control that turns off the TV

But Bad Bunny's was the most watched Super Bowl halftime show ever.

THE MANTEL GANG AND I ARE UPSET

The Mantel Gang has been pretty quiet since the rigged election that put a traitor and a convicted felon back in the White House. I'm sure you all saw the videos with suitcases full of votes for Kamala Harris hidden under tables so they wouldn't be counted and the My Pillow Guy has proof that voting machines were messed with so if you voted for Harris the vote would go to the felon instead. You know how these things work.

The Gang has also moved around. For a while they were The Top of The Pie Safe Gang, but that didn't go well. Although they enjoyed the pastel floral prints in their background, they tended to fall over and lose their tiny accessories. Stacy Abrams' microphone disappeared (another Republican plot to keep her from getting out the vote for Democrats), and Nancy Pelosi's gavel got lost THREE TIMES!

Look at the way Nancy holds out her hand as if a gavel is in it, but her poor, little hand is empty. The first two times the gavel fell I found it on the floor, but the third time was not the charm.

I asked RBG if she would share her gavel with Nancy. Try to imagine how that went down. Ruthie does not share.

And I'm not the only person who has asked the action figure company to please make replacements for the tiny accessories with no response received.

After leaving the Pie Safe, these good folks moved to The Top of The Book Shelf for quite a while, and then moved again recently and are now The China Cabinet Gang.

They were pleased about their move because they had great expectations for long awaited additions to the family, one of which couldn't be coming at a more crucial time.

Then we received a crushing disappointment, about which we want to vent because it must be the result of a republican conspiracy.

When I first purchased FCTRY action figures, I bought what they had in stock. Then I learned about their Kickstarter campaigns for new figures. I pledge money for the campaign and when the figure is finished, it's shipped to me. That's how I got the bad guys, Putin and Kim Jong Un, and I think I backed Mayor Pete. But one time I backed a campaign (I don't remember which figure it was), and when the product didn't arrive, I emailed FCTRY and they said I had not pledged money. Okay. I thought I had but figured I was wrong.

Then an opportunity came up before the 2024 election for a new Kickstarter campaign and I was all over it: Back the creation of Michelle Obama and Tim Walz figures and receive a free Blue Goose presidential lectern! Some other figures were also available, such as different versions of Kamala Harris and a Barack Obama with gray hair, but I'm happy with the Kamala and Barack I have and didn't need others. I wanted Michelle, Tim, and the Blue Goose. So I signed up and waited.

I waited some more. I checked the FCTRY site and saw creation and production were slow for various reasons. I was patient. But ICE created havoc in Minnesota and I really wanted Governor Walz to join The China Cabinet Gang, so on Jan. 12th, I emailed FCTRY to ask when they would send Michelle and Tim because the rest of my action figures wanted to be with them. "Macky" replied that it would be soon and offered to check my pledge to make sure they had my details correct. Yes, please check, I wrote back to him.

No further response from Macky, but on Feb. 4th I received a generic email stating the Michelle Obama and Tim Walz action figures were shipping. Michelle Obama had already arrived. We were thrilled to see her, but I emailed the company again: Where is Tim Walz?

Again, it was Macky who responded and told me I hadn't backed the Tim Walz campaign, which is not true. I know I did. Macky said I should check my records to see if my card had been charged for both campaigns. It turns out my card wasn't charged for either one! I believed it the first time FCTRY told me I didn't back a campaign, but this time, I am absolutely positive I did.

Macky insists I didn't. I reminded Macky that he offered to check my pledge details, didn't follow through, and if he had, I would have known at least a bit sooner that there was a problem. No apology from Macky. I'm very disappointed in FCTRY. Some kind of disconnect exists between the Kickstarter campaigns and the FCTRY order fulfillment.

I can't order Tim Walz or the lectern because they're sold out.

I haven't introduced Michelle Obama to The China Cabinet Gang yet. Carol and I are going out to lunch tomorrow. Perhaps I'll remove Michelle from her box while Carol is here.

Carol and I love Michelle. I'm happy that Michelle has been doing her own thing and didn't bother to go to the inauguration of the fake, illegally elected president. That election was all a hoax. It was all rigged. It was terrible, so terrible, sad, sad, sad. Dozing Don can't stay awake for five minutes. Throws his food at the walls in what's left of the White House. Shutting down the Kennedy Center pretending it needs to be remodeled because he can't cope with the embarrassment of acts refusing to perform there and ticket sales are way down because of the stupid shit he's done and it's all a hoax. PTA = PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON

Anderson is one of my favorite filmmakers. Recently, I was pleased to see him rack up some Golden Globe Awards for his 2025 movie, One Battle After Another (Rated R, 2 hours 41 minutes, Streams on HBO Max or whatever they're calling it now they can't make up their minds).

This is a wild ride of a movie. It's a dark comedy, a thriller, has all sorts of crazy stuff going on. I won't even try to get into the plot. I enjoyed One Battle After Another and felt entertained throughout even though it's quite long.

I don't know if it's worthy of the 13 Oscar nominations it received. I wouldn't have given that Best Actor nod to Leonardo DiCaprio while leaving out Jesse Plemons in Bugonia.

I hope to see PTA win something.

Oh! I glimpsed Alana Haim a couple of times and was excited to see her. I thought she was wonderful with Cooper Hoffman in PTA's Licorice Pizza, but she really doesn't do anything in One Battle.

My favorite Anderson movie, and one of my favorite movies that I re-watch every few years, is 1999's Magnolia. It's Anderson's masterpiece––so far.

Who knows what Paul Thomas Anderson will bring us in the future?

EVEN FLORIDA IS COLD

Did Winter Storm Fern bring ice and snow and low temperatures to you? Although we don't have snow, Florida is cold. Our high was in the 40s on Monday and it will stay chilly all week with overnight lows in the 20s and 30s.

Fern is such a mild name for a such a destructive storm.

Princess is prepared for a long winter night's rest.

We have a merry fire to keep us cozy.

In North Carolina, Favorite Young Man and K were iced in on Sunday and Monday. I'm pleased the schools were closed Monday and Tuesday so K didn't have to go to work. FYM was able to negotiate the icy roads to go to work Tuesday.

Yesterday I recounted the story of our visit to the Holocaust Museum in DC many years ago. Today I'll add that when I was a reporter in Pennsylvania I wrote an article about a woman from Ukraine who told me the story of Nazis arriving in her village. The next day, the Jews were gone. Then the young people were ordered to go to the village square. Her grandmother told her, Do whatever they say, and you will be all right.

She, a 16 year old, and the other young people were shipped off to Germany to be slave labor. She and another girl had to work for a cruel German farmer. The farmer had a kind wife who helped them as much as possible. She did as her grandmother told her, and she was hungry but all right.When the war was over, she got a job cooking for the US Army, where she met a handsome GI who took her to rural Pennsylvania as his bride. Their 50 year marriage on their farm ended when he died. She missed him terribly.

I've mentioned my interest in history before. I read quite a bit, and I also like to watch documentaries, many of which are about World War II. Princess often watches with me.

A couple of days ago, Princess said, That chap with the strange, little moustache, and the animal with the orange face, they have much in common. They hold rallies and shout a lot. Sie sind hasserfüllt und grausam. Sie sind Brüder, oder zumindest beste Freunde, nicht wahr?*

Nein, I told her. The German man has been dead for a long time. Many people wish the American man would die.

INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY

On January 27th, 1945, the Soviet Army liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland. In 2005, the United Nations General Assembly declared Jan 27 International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

I've told this story before, but it's been a long time and I think it's worth repeating. When my daughter, The Hurricane, was in middle school, we took her to Washington, D.C., for a Van Gogh exhibit. The line for the exhibit was long and when we were within six people of getting in, someone came out to announce that was it, no one else could enter the museum that day.*

The Hurricane asked if we could instead visit the Holocaust Memorial Museum, which had opened recently. I was reluctant because I was very much aware of the horrors of Hitler's attempt to rid Europe of Jews and other people he did not want––Roma, the disabled, political enemies, LGBTQ, and more.

But I agreed, and I was glad I did. It was a good learning experience, and the museum had been designed in a way that allowed those who did not want to see the most graphic photos to avoid them. I looked at them, and I told Hurricane what was depicted in them before she saw them, which she chose to do.

The staff members did not wear the garb of security guards as they do at other museums in D.C. They were dressed in dark clothing.

When we entered a room that had "beds" from Auschwitz––the wood frames that in no way resembled beds––after a couple of minutes I noticed an older woman holding on to one of the frames and crying. A young woman on the staff sternly told her she must not touch the items on display from the camps.

She said through her tears, in heavily accented English, You don't understand. I slept in these.

The worldwide Holocaust survivor population now stands at 196,000. That number is dwindling rapidly as many are older than 90. About half of them live in Israel.

We can't allow them to be forgotten.

ICE is in my city. I want to take off in a rocket to the moon, as long as it's not launched by the musk melon.

Was I the last to know that Alligator Alcatraz didn't close? I found out it's still open when I read an article about a popular Miami food truck owner who had been arrested and taken there. The last I'd heard, a judge had ordered its closure.

A different judge said it could be kept open. Next to no information about the prisoners has been released. How many are in custody there? Who are they? Where will they be sent?

Deporting people who are in the US legally is crazy (I don't really approve of deporting people who are here illegally and not causing any trouble). Deporting people to countries where they've never been before is even crazier. The fascist felon has never given up trying to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia. 🟧and his henchmen last wanted to send Mr. Garcia to an African country, I believe. A judge ordered Mr. Garcia be allowed to stay in the US. When🟠falls asleep during meetings, he dreams of sending Mr. Garcia to any country that offers to torture him. Will this poor man ever be granted any peace?

All vestiges of Christmas are gone. I put away the tree on Sunday. I do have a string of lights on the dining room table. I need to untangle them and store them correctly so they'll be ready for use in 10 months.

My supervisor works in Virginia. She was 30 minutes late to work Tuesday because ICE had closed down some roads. She didn't know what they were doing.

She tells me all the time that I'm going to be fired. I've been with the company 4+ years. Every supervisor I've had, except the first, has told me I'm going to be fired. It's demoralizing. According to her, I don't do anything right. Blah, blah, blah.

Last week I renewed the license I must have to do my job, which I need to do every couple of years. Why did the company pay for the licensing if I'm going to be fired? She praises one aspect of my performance, but tells me to change that aspect. She doesn't want me to be me.

When someone finally gets around to firing me, I have my big money-making businesses, and I added a new business last weekend: Junebug Refrigerator Repair. The icemaker wasn't working in Leon, my refrigerator. Usually I repair an icemaker by unplugging the refrigerator for five minutes and then plugging it back in. That didn't work, so I had to figure out a different method, which worked beautifully. Therefore, I have a 100% Success Rate in the field of Refrigerator Repair. I have a 50% Success Rate with Junebug Lawn Mower Repair, and a 100% Success Rate with Junebug Automotive Repair (consists of adding power steering fluid to vehicles).

Then there's my whopper of a great idea: THE LAKE JUNEBUG RESORT & RUMPUS ROOM. I haven't opened the resort in a long time. I think this coming summer will at long last be the time to accede to your demands and throw open my doors again. Break down the gate––literally. The gate is falling apart anyway. I'll have the same great offerings I had in the past along with some new ones. 23,407.99% Success Rate. I suspect some of you will make reservations for the first time, and you'll encourage your friends and relatives to do the same.

Princess was a delight last weekend. She continues to learn and adapt. Saturday I had to go grocery shopping because the cupboards were bare, so I returned with a pretty big haul. When I need to bring in groceries, I ask Princess to go in the backyard so I can prop open the front door without her running out and screaming FREE AT LAST! FREE AT LAST! THANK GOD ALMIGHTY! I'M FREE AT LAST!

Princess has always resisted being relegated to the back, but this time, I walked in the house, she led me to the back door, I let her out, and she sat on the deck at the door, waiting patiently until all the groceries were inside. She didn't bark or cry. I praised her liberally. I'd had no indication she was ready to make such a big change.

On the rare occasion someone comes to the front door, she also lures me to the door by motioning with her head and showing her concern if I don't move quickly enough. Princess doesn't know I can look at the camera app on my phone to see who's there, but I appreciate her assistance.

Sunday evening I gave Princess a shower. I'd been calling her Stinky Butt. She's not stinky now, and her fur is soft and fluffy. She was pretty good in the shower. She didn't like it, but she cooperated. That's my sweet girl.

If you've been following the news, you know Jonathan Ross, the piece of shit ICE agent who murdered Renee Nicole Good, filmed his kill encounter with Ms. Good with his cell phone. At first, the phone was in his right hand.

Ms. Good smiled at Ross through the open window of her vehicle and said what I believe were her last words: That's fine, dude. I'm not mad at you.

Ross switched the phone to his left hand so he could place his right hand on his gun and remove it from the holster. Ross shot Renee Nicole Good three times and said, Fuckin' bitch.

Because that's how a professional behaves in this kind of situation? ICE agents told Ms. Good to leave the area, she turned the wheels of her vehicle to leave, began to leave, and somehow she deserved to be executed and cursed for doing as she was told?

If you want to see the puppy killer on State of The Union Sunday, January 11, 2026, here's the video. I warn you: It will infuriate you as it infuriated me. It's non-stop lies. She defends the regime, defends the murderer, and continues to blame the victim. She also claims there are videos of the victim causing trouble with the ICE agents earlier that morning. I want to see those videos and they had damn well better not be AI.

Renee Nicole Good, 37, was murdered by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

According to FFF [Fat Fascist Felon]: I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in selfdefense.

The situation is being studied, in its entirety, but the reason these incidents are happening is because the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis. They are just trying to do the job of MAKING AMERICA SAFE. We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate!

The Puppy Killer had this to say: It’s clearly established law that a vehicle driven by a person and used to harm someone, is a deadly weapon. Deadly force is perfectly lawful when a threat is faced by a weapon. So I do believe that this officer used his training in this situation.

ICE agents repeatedly ordered her to get out of the car and to stop obstructing law enforcement, but she refused to obey their commands. She then proceeded to weaponize her vehicle and she attempted to run a law enforcement officer over.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz stated: From here on, I have a very simple message: We do not need any further help from the federal government. To Donald Trump and Kristi Noem, you’ve done enough.

When I found out the felon in the White House had kidnapped Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela, my first thought was, Now that we know it's okay to go into another country to steal their leader and imprison him and his wife, will someone please kidnap our fascist and maybe take Melanie, too? Canada? Pretty please with sugar on it?

I nominate Debra (She Who Seeks) and HRH. They're an unbeatable team. Debra, it's not that difficult to find Mar-a-Lago. Stroll in while he's having one of his shindigs. He's the pudgy guy with weird hair, an ill-fitting suit with too-long red tie, cankles, and bruises on his hands. He won't see you coming because he'll be sound asleep.

Take or leave Melanie. I don't care. He doesn't either. She might like to go back to Slovenia. She's the one who doesn't like children and can't speak English. According to him, she has her panties steamed. Announcing that turns him on, although doing anything about it is a thing of the past.

Make sure you keep him in solitary confinement. *PEDOPHILE ALERT*

And that's not funny in the least.

I'm undecorating the Christmas tree the same way I decorated it. I walk by it; I take off an oranament. At this rate, it might be down by Easter.

I don't think I told you about my neighbor, Scott. I'm surrounded by men. On one side in the yellow house is Andrew, a very nice young man. I thought he was in his 20s. He told me he's 40! On the other side in the white brick house is Henry. Henry is pleasant, but I don't see much of him. Behind Henry's house is a white garage with an apartment above it. Scott and his daughter live in the apartment.

Scott is soooooo nice. He fusses about me –– if he sees me working in the yard and he thinks it's too hot, he tells me I need to get inside. He gave me some clippers because he heard me using my chainsaw (I think he's worried I'll cut off my arm or leg or head; I still use the chainsaw but the clippers come in handy).

Scott had company on Christmas Day, when we had lovely, warm weather. Princess and I went for a walk and saw some of his guests. I'm sure he's a great host.

Early in the evening. we heard a knock on the door and his raspy voice called out IT'S SCOTT! He brought me loads of food: Lasagna (the best I've ever had) and garlic bread, a seafood boil, and excellent barbecued chicken. I feasted for days.

I have wonderful neighbors, but Scott goes above and beyond. He always says to tell him if I need anything, and so does Bob, a musician who lives across the street with his lovely wife Annette, a teacher.

Carol took me out to lunch Sunday when she got home from church. I should have taken a picture of her. She looked beautiful in a lavender skirt suit. Carol doesn't wear a skirt or dress without a slip and hose. She's a traditionalist and she sticks with the way she was raised. Carol does not wear a girdle, although she thinks some women could use them!

I'm grateful to be considered family.

And speaking of family, Favorite Young Man and K sent me what K described as a "box of hugs" for Christmas: A beautiful shawl I wrap myself in on chilly days, a nice mug and hot cocoa mix, cozy socks, and many other goodies.

I was in a bad mood when I started writing this post, and now I feel better. The US is headed for even bigger trouble, I'm sure, with the felon threatening Mexico and still yapping about wanting Greenland. We'll see what happens with his Venezuela fiasco. I'll watch it play out and we'll protest and we'll still call it the Kennedy Center and his name will be removed and occasionally, the Supreme Court rules against him. If he puts in marble armrests, they'll end up being removed and so will he.

They can kill ya, but they can't eat ya.

SOMEONE TURNED HER BACK ON OUR NEW YEAR'S EVE MOVIE

Princess and I watched Wicked: For Good on New Year's Eve. Princess is quite particular about her television choices.

She was interested in the movie at first, resting and watching from a spot on the floor close to where I was sitting.

I'm sorry the photos aren't all that good. We didn't have a lot
of light. Princess is camera shy, so I have to grab a shot
of her with my phone when I get the chance.

I never know why Princess likes a movie or TV series. She refuses to tell me, but she clearly found For Good appealing –– for a while.

She usually sits on my lap to watch TV, but this time she moved closer to the TV.

But then the magic ended with one sentence. Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) said, Animals can't be trusted.

I finished watching the movie while Princess very pointedly ignored it. I did hear her whisper, That's a mighty big load of boolshit somebody had to shovel.

I'm afraid of 2026, yet I remain hopeful that somehow, some way, the US will pull through the coming year with our democracy intact, in spite of 🐙 and his hold over the Supreme Court. His approval ratings sink with each passing month. His name will be removed from the Kennedy Center. Those stupid plaques in the White House with his moronic descriptions of the presidents will be removed. The East Wing will be rebuilt and there will be no ballroom.

There will be no 🟧. He will be nothing but a painful memory. Maybelline Vance will disappear into oblivion with Erika Kirk.

We can look forward to many great events –– mid-term elections and doing everything we can to put Democrats in power in the House and the Senate, the next presidential election and a good, solid Democrat in the White House who will fight for the rights of all people, no matter the color of their skin or their sexual orientation.

In the coming year, we will continue to point out the lies and to protest the bullshit, and even more important, to promote good, to promote love.

I love you all, my dear, bloggy friends. In fact, I celebrated a blogaversary a few days ago. I wrote my first blog post during December, 2009. I've been blogging for 16 years. Some years I've blogged a lot, and others, not so much. I always appreciate your support and friendship.

You've been there for me to celebrate the addition of dogs to my little family and helped me when I've mourned deaths. You were great when times were rough with Favorite Young Man. The high point of 2025 for me is having him back in my life, along with meeting his beloved, K. I adore her. She said she think of me as her mother-in-law, so I claim her as my daughter-in-law.

It's turned chilly in Florida, so tonight Princess and I will be in our jammies watching Wicked: For Good and cursing a bit when the fireworks get too loud. That Princess has quite the potty mouth.

It's our first Christmas without Penelope. She was a funny girl with a lot of complaints, many of them about me. If I left the house I was gone for years. I shouldn't work at my stupid job. I thwarted her attempt to travel to France using the steps she found under the deck.

Penelope was critical. She called Franklin the village idiot (to be fair, he intentionally misprounced her name as Penlapee, which drove her mad). Until she and Princess became best friends, Penelope didn't like the German girl who might have been adopted to replace her.

But Penelope loved Kissmas, so we'll look back at one of her pre-Kissmas posts.

Mom Mom told Santa Paws that it's cold and he brought me an early present. It's a new sweater!!!!!

It has the body of a penguin on my back and then my head sticks out of the opening so it looks like I'm a penguin. Mom Mom said I'm the most adorable penguin in the world. Human Brother called me Peneloguin. Then he said I'm CUTE! I wonder if being cute will make me fly like the reindeer on the TV.

A RAT'S TAIL

Rain began Saturday night and poured down yesterday until about 9 p.m. It was a gloomy Sunday, but Princess brightened my day by giving me a special gift.

Princess went out under duress Sunday morning because she hates the rain. Little did she know she was about to have great fun. Princess did what must be done and then headed for the garage. Princess and Penelope used to check out the garage together every morning with their noses down, smelling the cat or rat or possum that had visited during the night. Princess has kept up the habit on her own.

She stopped at a front corner of the garage. I watched from the back door and could tell she found something. I hoped a cat would streak out and disappear under the deck. No such luck.

She rooted around and lunged. Then she came up the steps to the deck with a very large, very dead rat in her mouth. I cracked the door open and commanded, Leave it! Put it down!

Princess obeyed a few steps from the door. I praised her, told her she was a good, brave girl because the only good rat is a dead rat, yet the thing sickened me. The worst thing about living in Jacksonville is the never ending population of rats.

She presented me with a dead rat once before. It was much smaller and looked deflated. I was able to grab it with the pooper scooper without really looking at it. Then I found a place to make it disappear. This rat was too large for that. I would have to get up close and personal with Mr. Rat.

Maureen and I went out for a late lunch/early supper. She told me to put the rat in with my kitchen trash and then put that bag inside another bag and put it in the garbage since we have trash pick up Monday morning. Maureen also offered to come over and take care of the rat herself; I insisted I would do it myself, although I thought I might lose my lunch. Fortunately, the scoop was strong enough to grab him. I shouted, Euuuuu, that's disgusting as he entered the trash bag to join some kitchen scraps and the contents of the Roombas' dust bins.

I texted Favorite Young Man about the rat. He replied, It's a tribute to you. A gift. Of course, it was. Princess was so proud of her kill. She probably wanted to wrap it in some pretty, red paper, stick a bow on top, and put it under the Christmas tree for me. 🎄

I'll be relieved when the trash is picked up and gone this morning.

CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT! CAT IN THE TREE!!

I'm preparing this post on Tuesday evening. It's rained much of the day, with a high in the 70s. Tomorrow it's supposed to be partly cloudy with considerably cooler temps.

At this time of the year, I enjoy a chilly Florida, although the natives think they'll die when it dips below 60°.

And now here's the ornament of the day:

The first Christmas we had Milhous, he climbed the tree, stole the angel from the top, and bit her face off. The next Christmas, we came home to find he had knocked over the tree. It probably terrified him when it fell because, as far as I know, he never climbed the tree again. Instead he would lie under the tree as if he knew what a great gift he was.

PEANUTS ON THE TREE

My email is full of messages telling me everything is 40% off at this store and I can get free shipping and 20% off at that store. I don't see anyone offering $1,200% off. That's 🟧 Math.

But I'd love it if stores paid me to shop with them. Give me that 700% off, baby.

No wonder 🟠runs businesses into the ground. He doesn't understand percentages, or he knows what they mean and he's counting on the stupidity of his followers to believe the crap he says. A lot of people bought the lie about 150-year-old people receiving Social Security checks. We haven't heard anything more about that in a while, have we?

The number of ornaments on the tree grows. I've expanded the add one ornament every time I walk past the tree to sometimes standing at the tree to add three or even four ornaments. The addition of multiple ornaments doesn't occur when I'm on the way to the bathroom, however.

Princess showed an interest in the Christmas tree Sunday, but not in a good way. She started to chew on a branch. I told her no. She obeyed. If one no isn't enough to discourage her, then I've also put some jingle bells on the lower branches of the tree. So if she messes around with the Christmas tree when I'm not in the room watching her, I hope the sound of the bells will alert me to the problem.

When I leave the house, she usually lies on the living room couch to wait for the sound of my car pulling into the driveway. I receive an enthusiastic greeting at the door.

CHRISTMAS IN THE HOUSE

Princess and I had a great weekend. We walked and talked, and she cleaned my plate after Thanksgiving dinner and when I ate leftovers. We still have lots of good food, and I don't have to run the dishwasher when Princess licks a plate clean. It can go right back in the cabinet to be used for the next meal. (I'm kidding!)

But now it's time to get busy with the Christmas decorating.

The tree is up. It has lights and a few ornaments.

To complete the picture, every time I walk past the tree I have to hang an ornament on it. The final item will be the star on the top. If I put it on now, it will probably fall from its precarious perch every time I put something else on the tree.

ALMOST THANKSGIVING

My employer made one change to our holiday schedule that I like. Instead of only being off on Thanksgiving, we're also off on Friday. I'm happy about that, so not everything is terrible.

We're open on Friday, but it will be slow. People who want to work that day chose a shift. They'll be paid extra for working on the holiday. I'm happy to get the two days off and get regular holiday pay. Maybe my next paycheck will be $2.96 instead of $1.96.

We're supposed to have some cooler weather coming in with highs in the 60s. That's not bad at all. Princess and I will enjoy our walks over the long weekend.

I got out four Christmas decorations Tuesday evening, so now I can say I've started something I said I would do at the beginning of November. I don't think I'll decorate the living room this year. I'll stick to having the tree in the dining room where I can see it from my work desk and from the comfy couch where I sit to blog, read, or watch a movie or two. I get one side of the couch and Princess gets the other side, unless she wants to be on her doggy bed. Sometimes she goes to the living room to sit in the big recliner near the window.

It's fun to put loads of ornaments on my nice, big tree. When I was married, we only had small trees. X would have disapproved of spending money on a larger tree. I ordered my tree from Wayfair. It was on sale for a very reasonable price.

I always have invitations to Thanksgiving dinners prepared by my friends, which I appreciate, but I prefer to stay at home and enjoy the peace and quiet. Growing up in a large family led me to hate the chaos on holidays. Princess is all the company I need.

PITY, PARTY OF ONE

I've had a lot of migraines lately. They make me feel like shit. I give myself a shot of Emgality every month, which usually helps, but my insurance won't cover the Nurtec that helps with break-through migraines. My employer sees record profits so the CEO and other top-level people get millions in bonuses, but they take away our benefits. I know I've bitched about the changes at work before, so please pardon my rant.

My last paycheck was $1.96. A lot of what I earn goes to my part in paying for benefits and into an HSA that doesn't have enough money in it to cover all my medical expenses.

I've also taken long leaves of absence this year and last because of severe health issues. I won't share them. TMI

The whole X hiring a lawyer thing and wanting to change the settlement hangs over my head like the blade of a guillotine. I wanted to retire after the first of the year. How can I do that when I don't know if I'll even have sufficient funds to live at a greatly reduced standard––not that I'm living the high life now, especially with costs going up non-stop. How can anyone afford to buy beef? I don't eat red meat very often, but I appreciate an occasional steak. I can't remember the last time I had one.

The letter from the lawyer said when X retires his loss of income will be more than $100,000 a year. Isn't that so fucking sad. I've never had an income approaching that. I don't have a standard of living anywhere close to what I had when we were married, but he wants to cut me off. We were married for 30 years. When he was very sick, I took care of him, although he hated me for being ill.

They haven't filed anything in court yet, but I need a lawyer to represent me. I called numerous law offices in Illinois (the state where we divorced). Quite a few lawyers weren't accepting new clients. I finally found a lawyer to take my case, but her retainer is $4,000, which has to be paid immediately in order to hire her. That amount seems to be typical for a decent lawyer. I don't have a stray $4,000 sitting around. I told X's lawyer we can't talk about anything unless X pays for my lawyer. And I will fight to keep my maintenance (alimony).

If I have to continue working, there's no guarantee I'll have a job. My employer has adopted the employees are meaningless and can be easily replaced business model, which was the standard at the job I had before. I don't know from one day to the next if I'll be fired.

When I feel especially bad, when I cry, Princess comes to me and I look into her eyes. She helps me a lot.

I guess that's all I have to say for now. If you're still reading, then I thank you for putting up with my problems.
