I have to come clean: I've never been a big fan of the MachSpeeds. They have improved them, though. Both the square and round ones have bigger faces with more aerodynamic shapes. Nike has dialed down the extreme shape and made it a bit sleeker.

The round black driver head looks like a hockey puck on the end of a stick. It's designed for more workability over the square face. The "STR8-Fit technology" allows you to tweak the puck open or closed to your liking. And the light aerodynamics produces fast clubhead speeds with less spin on the ball, which results in bigger longer drives.

The other advantage of this club is the sound. If you are ever lost in the forest and you've got your trusty driver with you (I never go hiking without mine), simply start hitting golf balls (or rocks, or pine cones) and somebody will find you quickly. The sound of the golf ball at impact can be heard for miles and miles. It is as pleasing a sound as a cow bell or car wreck.

I recommend you check out the Nike VR Pro. It has a hotter face, a better look, and you can adjust it to 32 different positions as opposed to 8. If you don't want to shell out for the new one, check out last year's model.

I will say that Nike has improved this driver over last year's model. The face is larger, and the shape is sleeker. Having said that, it's like saying Toyota improved the Corolla. It's still a Corolla.

And like a Corolla, this club will get you from point A to point B. It is designed for higher handicappers and thus is very forgiving. The club face is adjustable to 8 different positions, but keep in mind the neutral position is actually a little closed. This is to help slicers. If you still slice it after trying it neutral, you obviously will need to tweak it even more closed.

Now for the panning… Fasten your seatbelts. The square black driver head looks like a giant Klondike bar. (Mmmmm, yummy.) The only thing less pleasing than the look is the sound of the ball at impact. When I hear it, I imagine that I am a P.O.W. and the enemy is trying to extract information from me by making me listen to the Commandant hitting drives with this beast. TINK... TINK... TINK... "Ve have vays of making you talk..."

I recommend you upgrade to the Nike VR Pro. Buy last year's model if price is an issue. The club is much better looking, and it has 32 different adjustments. The sound still is a bit metallic, but it won't lead you to commit treason.

When it comes to hot faces, I rank Ping and Nike at the top. There is no science behind this opinion -- just my own experiences and those stud golfers that I play with. One of those said studs in my foursome showed up with this driver earlier this year.

The guys in my group have become accustomed to having Joe drive it by. The guy makes a big shoulder turn that would send most people to the chiropractor. We'd been giving him a hard time for some time because he plays with clubs from the nineties. Boy was that a mistake.

On the first tee, he tees the ball up so high it seems like it's at knee level. Then he takes his usual contortionist turn and rips the ball into the stratosphere. The ball launches high like a rocket and sails by our balls before landing and rolling out another 10 to 15 yards. Oh geez.

That's the nice thing about the deep faces of the modern clubs, you can really tee them up high with no fear of "skying" the ball. I've always like the look of the Ping drivers because they are not flashy. The Ping G15 is very subtle with a cool quarter-moon marker on the crown for alignment.

The only thing bad I can say about the driver (besides the fact that my buddy has added another 10 yards by me) is that the club doesn't come with an adjustability feature. I think they need to get on the bandwagon that most of the other club companies have already jumped on.

I apologize, but there is something about the color scheme of this driver that makes me sing that song.

I had an opportunity to hit this driver last month at the driving range after a nice fellow standing next to me offered. I simply asked him how he liked it, and he said "You're welcome to hit it."

"Cool." I replied. I was a little nervous because he was watching me. The pressure was on. Now I knew I couldn't miss the ball because the huge wing-shaped white crown was about the size of a tennis racket. But since the club was so light and the face so big, I swung a lot harder than I do with my driver. Thus, I pulled the ball low and left. I just nervously smiled and teed another one up.

On my second swing, I told myself to swing easy, and my tempo was a lot better. The yellow range ball flew of the chocolate-colored face lower than I expected, but then rose slowly before landing and rolling to the back fence. "Nice shot," the friendly man said.

I hit a few more with similar results. With what seemed like very easy swings, I was flying it out there about 250 with lots of roll after it landed. I really liked how easy it was to swing, and off-center hits flew almost as far as the ones I caught on the middle.

However, I didn't like the sound. It was that annoying "tink" sound that a lot of the game-improving drivers have. And I'm still getting used to Taylormade's black and white color scheme. It makes me really hungry.

There's no doubt that this driver was the best new product of 2011. I see these Oreo cookie-looking things all over the place. They're on the Tours and all over the muni's that I play. Maybe it's just that I notice them more because they stand out so much.

The first time I had the opportunity to hit one, I was on my favorite driving range in Florida and I noticed a crowd of six guys standing around a man ripping drives to the back of the range. Most of his shots had a penetrating ball flight that started out right and drew back to the left. Then one of the guys said, "Can you hit some fades?"

Sure enough, he started hitting high-booming fades that hung in the air like a balloon. I stepped up and asked him if I could hit a couple.

The driver has always looked ugly to me with the vanilla ice cream crown and the coal black face, but one thing for sure with that contrast, I can easily tell at address if I'm lining it up square.

It was evening, so I couldn't tell if the anti-glare white paint performed as advertised. I can tell you, however, that it felt very light probably because it has a 440cc clubhead. This is smaller than I expected.

My first shot I hit dead straight. The ball shot of the face like a bullet, flew high, and landed rolling hard. I asked the gentleman if the club had been adjusted, because it has several different face setting from open to closed. He said it was set to neutral. I hit a couple draws and then handed it back to him.

I can see why the club is popular. It is very easy to swing and work the ball, and the color scheme is growing on me.

PGA Tour Pro Phil Mickelson plays this driver, and Alvaro Quiros won the 2011 Omega Dubai Desert Classic with this bad boy. 'Nuff said, right? Do I really have to write a review?

Okay, fine here you go… Callaway and Lamborghini joined forces to bring you this driver. The crown and body of the driver are made with a super-light carbon fiber that is also found in Lamborghini sports cars. (So if you buy enough of them, you can build your own Lamborghini.)

Like the Lambo, the driver is light and fast. The stock shaft in the Tour driver is a 45.5-inch Aldila RIP graphite shaft, and the head is a workable 445cc. Thus, you can draw and fade the club at will. Hence the name "RAZR" as you can carve the ball any way you want.

Overall, the feel is solid with a muffled sound. No loud "tink" here. Even with the feather-light weight, the club still feels sturdy in your hands. The trajectory is easy to control, and mis-hits still fly far.

The only thing I don't like about the club is the look of the crown. The black and silver are ugly, and it looks more like the older color schemes of the early 2000s. (OMG! So not 2011.)

Of course, you don't see any of this at address, and it doesn't seem to bother Mickelson and Quiros.

The RAZR Hawk is designed for golfers who want a cannon in their hands. The 460cc head is more than 6 yards farther then Callaway's FT 9. It has all the pop and forgiveness that modern technology can provide. Although the driver is a little more subtle then the flashy 460cc Diablo Octane.

Both drivers are made with materials developed with the help of Lamborghini. Yes, I'm talking about the race car. (Wait, does that mean that the drivers at Wal-Mart are made out of old Volkswagens?) This material is a forged composite that is lighter than air. (Not really -- but it is really light.) Whereas just the Diablo's crown is made of the carbon fiber, the entire body and crown of the RAZR Hawk is made of Lamborghini.

Enough with the materials. Does it go far? The answer is an unequivocal yes. The driver is light and fast, and the sweet spot is huge. Toe and heel hits feel like center hits. This driver has all the bang of the Diablo, but you have more control for moving the ball either direction.

On the down side, I'm not a big fan of the look of the crown. I don't like the silver curved seam with the two-tone. (Of course you don't see any of this at address.) And the only other flaw I can find is: Although the club is workable, it doesn't have a lot of feel. Mis-hits feel the same as regular hits.

Nike drivers (going all the back to the Ignite) have really hot faces. The ball explodes off the face better than any other manufacturer I've seen.

This 2011 VR Pro is the second generation of this driver whose claim to fame is the compression channel at the bottom. This compression channel is Nike's unique design that makes the bottom of the club more forgiving when you miss-hit the ball low.

The other big feature of the driver is the STR8-FIT technology that allows you to adjust the face to 32 different positions. (It used to be just 8, hence the name STR8-FIT. Thus, it should be called the STR32-FIT. Not exactly the same ring to it.)

Nike has really improved the look of this driver over last year's model. First, the adjustable hosel is more disguised. On last year's club, it was gaudy and ugly. They've also made the shape more traditional.

I find this driver very easy to work the ball, left and right, high and low. However, the sound is not pleasing. Don't get me wrong; it's not as annoying as the loud tinks of those old Sumos and Sasquatches, but it certainly isn't as muted as what I expect from a tour driver. Also, the feel leaves a lot to be desired. There is not much feed back on mishits. Having said that, mishits fly high and far as if they were hit on the screws.

Attention Slicers: This is your driver.

The S3 Max has several devices built into it to help fix that banana ball and fire it straight down the fairway. The biggest thing they've done is offset the hosel so that the club face is already closed a little bit. This promotes a straight shot, or even a draw if you are swinging it well.

Cobra uses the same "E9 face technology" that they use in their regular S3, which gives it a 30% bigger sweet spot then last year's S2 driver. Combine this with the extra forgiveness on heel and toe hits, and you've got a driver that is going to bomb it 10 yards further than the driver you are using right now.

Remember, a slice takes off valuable distance because not only does the ball curve away from the target, but it also puts yard-stealing backspin on the ball. If you can manage to hit the ball straight or add a draw, you will be surprised how much further the ball goes. A draw spin has the opposite effect of a slice, adding overspin, which makes the ball roll hard down the fairway.

The only con to this driver is that for you high handicappers, as your game improves, that offset hosel may turn you into a hooker -- errrr, that is, you may struggle with snap-hooks. For this reason, you may want to consider the regular S3 Driver and simply adjust the club face closed (with the "Adjustable flight technology" ) and as you improve, adjust it back to neutral.

The nice thing about Cobra Drivers is they are reasonably priced. This game-improving S3 has all the modern technology to hit the ball long and straight without the prevailing price tags of most of the market leaders.

Let's talk about some of that modern technology. The face is elliptical. (Hold on. Isn't that a work-out machine?) An ellipse in geometry is a plane curve that results when a cone is intersected by a plane. Just imagine scooping ice cream out of your driver and you've got it.

Cobra uses something they call "E9 face technology" to give this driver a 30% bigger sweet spot then last year's S2 driver. In addition, they've jumped on the adjustability band wagon with their "Adjustable flight technology." However, there are only three settings: open, closed, and neutral. (As opposed to Nike and Taylormade that have many more settings.)

The best thing about the club is: although the club is big, forgiving, and long, it doesn't look or sound that way. At set-up, it looks fairly traditional, and the sound at impact isn't loud and annoying like a lot of the others in this field. I also like the snake alignment aid. It is a nice touch.

Improvements could be made in the COR. I expected a hot face with bigger spring effect. It's negotiable, though, and considering the price, I can live without it.
