8 Years of Blogging Comes to an End

Starting in June, About.com has decided to remove our blogs in favor of promoting our other content more directly. If you regularly read the blog here, you may notice some changes, as I'll be focusing more on writing longer articles and less on writing short blog posts. But I'll still be here, writing about HTML and web design.

I am also writing in a lot of other places, besides About.com. You can find me at:

HTMLJenn.com - where I post my most recent guest posts, provide links to places I do regular or semi-regular columns, and just keep you up-to-date on what's going on in my writing and consulting.

HTML5 in 24 Hours - where I'll be posting more blog posts to replace the ones I would have put here. I also talk about my latest books, including my upcoming book Sams Teach Yourself Responsive Web Design with HTML5 and CSS3 in 24 Hours.

Enjoy SciFi - here I write reviews of SciFi and fantasy books I've read and TV or movies I've seen.

Tech for Anyone - I am a sometime contributor to this site where I write about technology and how it interfaces with our world.

Aquaterra - I am the webminister for this site, and while I don't write most of the content, I do keep it up-to-date.

Who Needs Role Models - and finally, my personal blog, where I write about whatever comes to mind at the moment.

And I'm always around on Facebook, Google+, or Twitter if you want to chat with me. I hope to hear from you!

The Cheapest SSL Extended Validation (EV) Certificates

There are lots of good SSL certificates out there, but if you want more comprehensive validation, you should get Extended Validation. This is the validation that tells your customers that your company has been validated as real and legitimate. It puts your name in the URL bar and provides that extra edge of security and confidence.

Here is a list of the 10 Cheapest SSL Extended Validation (EV) Certificates.

Thanks Mom!

Is there someone in your life who inspires you? Well, one of those people in mine is my Mom. She was a nurse my entire growing years, and then she decided to go back to school and get a Master's degree. She then got a job working as a database manager and web developer for the CF Center of Stanford. She's retired now and is enjoying doing arts and gardening.

Viruses on computers are getting more and more dangerous. There are viruses that scour web pages, web browser caches, and other locations for email addresses. There is malware that will use your computer as a spam robot. There is also malware that will skim phishing information off of websites and web forms. The best protection from getting infected is to use an antivirus software program, but there are also things you can do to your websites to help make your pages less virus and spammer friendly. Learn More About How to Prevent Viruses from Infecting Your Web Pages and Your Customers

Accessible Frames

Okay, I don't really hate frames, as much as people might think that I do. But I really hate designers who don't take two minutes to make their frames accessible. And no, putting a <noframes> document up that says "This page is framed, please upgrade your browser." does not count. If you put up a noframes document, why not make it useful for those people who view it? Do you really think I'm going to upgrade just because your puny website tells me to?

Color Harmony

Once you understand the color wheel, you can use it to find color combinations that look good together. But remember, that the color wheel is only a tool. If you find a color combination that you like that isn't recommended by the color wheel, that doesn't mean you should throw it out. My first rule of color combinations is to use colors that I like.
