Beam Center seeks design proposals for an ambitious public artwork that will be brought to life through collaborations between youth, Beam Camp staff and the selected proposer. Projects will be realized by a community of more than 100 young people at Beam Camp in July 2026.
Beam Camp is a specialized summer camp for building and collaboration located in Strafford, NH. Our award-winning program offers youth (ages 9-17) the opportunity to cultivate hands-on skills while exploring innovative thinking, design, problem solving and the creative process.
Every year, Beam Camp solicits proposals for unique and spectacular large-scale projects that serve as the centerpiece for the four week session of camp. Our Project Team works with the winning designers to translate their vision into a real construction reflecting a high level of craftsmanship and skill by 100 campers and 20+ staff. Projects are always ambitious and technically challenging, and in many cases our Big Project becomes the world we live in during our time at camp. The themes and questions introduced by our project circulate to all parts of camp and make each Summer at Beam distinctly exciting from the next.. - Student prize
Architecture school provides young architects with an infinite playing field onto which to speculate, whether critically commenting on the world we live or imagining better tomorrows. This prize will be awarded to a 2026 graduate for a project that is propositional, experimental and radical.
- Competition entry prize
Unsuccessful competition entries should not be thrown into the bin. This prize seeks to recognise work and ideas that were dismissed by the judging panel of a design competition after 1 January 2026, but that architects can learn and draw inspiration from.
- Sustainable research and design prize
The built environment generates nearly 50 per cent of annual global CO2 emissions. Launched last year, this prize is looking for innovative uses of materials and new construction techniques, for ideas around the reduction of architectural waste and more sustainable design methodologies.

Eight teams will be selected to reimagine Jabal Umm Nuthaylah, a volcanic site 14 km south of Al-Masjid Al-Nabawi, as a destination of cultural, ecological, and experiential significance.

The Al-Madinah Region Development Authority (MDA) invites design professionals, studios, and multidisciplinary teams from around the world to participate in an international ideas competition of the highest ambition. Eight teams will be selected to reimagine Jabal Umm Nuthaylah, a volcanic site 14 km south of Al-Masjid Al-Nabawi, as a destination of cultural, ecological, and experiential significance.
This is an ideas competition with build potential. MDA retains the option to commission the winning team, in whole or in part, to develop or implement elements of the winning proposal.
Good proposals start with the land. The harrat terrain, its drainage, its elevations and its heat should drive the design concept from the first sketch.
Cultural and religious sensitivity is not optional. Hejazi craft traditions, volcanic basalt, and traditional building techniques belong in the work itself, not applied as surface detail. Each team submits one complete proposal: masterplan, architecture, landscape, and visualisations in a single integrated package.

北海道旭川家具の主要産地である北海道東川町は、次の時代を担う若者に対して、新しい丁寧な暮らしの提案につながる「KAGU」のデザインを求めます。KAGUとは、人間と世界の間をつなぐものの総称で、従来の家具という概念を拡張したものです。私たちは、身近な毎日の暮らしの中で様々なモノを使いますが、そのモノが作られ使われてきた背景はなかなか見えづらいものです。ともすればモノを乱暴に扱い、粗末にし、手間を省いて結果を急ぎ、時間を掛けずに深く考えないような暮らしが、大きなひずみを作ることに気づきました。
これから始まるKAGUデザインコンペを機会に、たくさんの可能性を秘めた君たちのアイディアが、形となり長く使われるように、そして丁寧な暮らしが少しずつ実現してゆきますように。

This Award honors and supports daylight research and daylight in architecture.

Description
Presented by the Daylight Academy (DLA), The Daylight Award honours and supports research in the scientific understanding of daylight and its significance for health, wellbeing and a balanced ecosystem, as well as its experiential and mental value in architectural design. The intention is to underline the collaboration of disciplines that are usually considered as separate professional realms of expertise.
The Daylight Award strives to raise an integrated understanding of daylight in human life and the wider ecosystem, and to strengthen its positive impact.
DAYLIGHT RESEARCH:
The Daylight Award in Research is awarded to individuals or smaller groups of researchers or scientists, who have accomplished internationally recognized outstanding and forward-looking contributions in any relevant field of daylight research. The Award acknowledges highly original and influential advances in the areas of natural, human and social sciences. A special emphasis is on the impact of daylight on human health, nature and innovation in its technological use for any solution leading to a more healthy and sustainable society.
DAYLIGHT IN ARCHITECTURE:
The Daylight Award in Architecture is awarded to a single architect or a group of practitioners, who have created distinguished architecture, urban environments or other environmental designs that showcase an outstanding, ground breaking and experientially meaningful use of daylight. The Award also includes scholarly and artistic studies in daylight. Special emphasis is placed on projects that consider the overall quality of life, the impact of daylight on human health, performance, mental and physical wellbeing, as well as on its value for culture and society.
