A very minimal building in the Samariterkiez neighbourhood lends itself to abstract compositions. To my eyes the huge expanses of walls seem to be crying out for more windows.

I previously photographed this building from another angle recently.

My pareidolia immediately kicks in here and I interpret it as a beach with a view that looks out to the horizon of a deep blue ocean. What do you see?

This beautiful flower, Lamprocapnos, jumped out at me as I don’t think I’d seen anything quite like it before – perhaps understandable because it’s native to China and the Korean peninsula!

A spring blooming flower I spotted on labour day this year when we decided to do something a bit different to the usual Berlin street parties and instead left the city and headed down to canoe around the Spreewald with friends. This plant was in a garden of a canal-side bar and restaurant. A nice surprise!

This absolutely beautiful tree felt like it deserved a careful portrait as it stood there regally lit up by the low winter light, the full extent of its limbs on display and fully occupying the space. It seemed almost like the plants around were solely there to frame this stunning specimen.

A beautiful wild grey heron stands watch over one of the penguin areas in Tierpark, eagle eyes no doubt peeled for easy opportunities for a tasty snack!

Data Horizon pictured lit up by a dappled projection and seemingly looking straight at us in the middle of his fantastic set at the third BYOB event, this time in LA18. His excellent sounds were accompanied by striking and hypnotic black and white visuals.

BYOB was put on by Pike Collective, and gathered together over 45 visual artists, 6 live acts, and 1 DJ to put on an incredible expression of artistic creativity as part of Berlin New Media Week.

This is also the first photo I’ve posted with my new 85mm F1.8 lens, which I picked up mainly to have a better lens for concert photography.

The undoubtedly impressive interior of the cathedral in Palma must be up there in high ceilinged places in the world.

That must be a real pain for cleaning cobwebs.

A quick check on Wikipedia tells me that it is in fact the 8th highest nave in the world, at a height of 40 meters!

I’m not sure why I find frozen things so fascinating – something about the temporarily locked state, the moment when everything finally ground to a halt and stopped moving around.

In this case, instead of it being a macro image, this shows the surface of a frozen lake – where not just the water itself had been locked in place, but also incidental objects that were present at that moment.

It was only when I finished processing this photo that I noticed its resemblance to the tip of a pencil! Now I can’t unsee it. This is in fact a piece of architecture that juts out of the structure at the base of the Berlin TV Tower (Fernsehturm), and with a clear blue sky above it was begging for abstraction.

A beautiful Muscari, aka grape hyacinth spotted in the Samariterkiez neighbourhood on a little walkabout in spring 2026. Such delicate little flowers, named, understandably, for their resemblance to a bunch of grapes!

I’m not sure exactly which species of muscari this one is – apparently they’re quite hard to tell apart.
