Several witnesses were transported to APD Headquarters for questioning by Detectives.

During the investigation, Detectives developed sufficient probable cause to identify 30-year-old Jamario Eddie as the suspect in the shooting. A felony arrest warrant was obtained for Assault in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and Assault in the Third Degree. On April 8, 2026, Jamario Eddie was located, arrested, and remanded to the Anchorage Correctional Complex on these charges.

UPDATE: April 7, 2026: WATCH; Updated Statement from Chief Sean Case

ORIGINAL: At approximately 3:01 AM on April 7, 2026, Anchorage Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Bragaw Street for a report of a disturbance involving a weapon at a residence.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim, who reported that the suspect was armed. Officers attempted to contact the suspect inside the residence; however, the suspect fled on foot. During the incident, shots were reportedly fired; it is under investigation who discharged their weapons. No officers or other individuals were injured by the gunfire.

Officers located the suspect nearby and attempted to make contact, which led to a physical struggle. A police K-9 was deployed and made contact with the suspect, allowing officers to take the suspect into custody. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the K-9 apprehension. The K-9 was not injured in this incident.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available. The suspect’s name and any charges associated with this incident will be released once the suspect is formally remanded.

Per policy the state’s Office of Special Prosecutions (OSP) will review the officer’s use of force and determine whether it was justified. Once that has been completed, APD Internal Affairs will review the officer’s actions to confirm whether there was any violation of policy. As per APD practice, the officer will be placed on four days of administrative leave. Their names will be released publicly 72 hours after the incident.

Once OSP has completed their investigation, their findings will be available for the public to review.

On April 3, 2026, APD was notified that Smith had died in the hospital due to injuries sustained in the collision. Next of Kin notifications are complete.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that Smith was walking in the road when he was struck by the van which was a Chevrolet Express van.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

UPDATE, March 31, 2026: The deceased adult male at the 12000 block of Shore Circle has been identified as 43-year-old Micah Bonin. Next-of-kin notification procedures are complete.

 The officer who discharged their weapon is Ofc. Jacob Jones. He has been an officer with the Anchorage Police Department since December of 2016. 

UPDATE 10:15 AM March 28, 2026: On March 28, 2026, at about 3:27 a.m. APD responded to a residence at the 12000 block of Shore Circle for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers reported the subject was shooting at them from a residence. An APD officer fired his weapon at the subject. The subject did not survive the incident. The cause of death has not been determined. The subject’s name will be released 24 hours after Next of Kin notifications are complete.

ORIGINAL: At 10:06 AM on March 25, 2026, Anchorage Police responded to the 8100 block of Northview Dr. in reference to an adult female who was deceased inside a residence.

While the death remains under investigation, police have noticed circumstances that warranted a closer look.  The Crime Scene Team is responding to process the scene. Two individuals have been transported to APD Headquarters for questioning by detectives. Ultimately the Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

APD Case 26-7262

On March 10, 2026, an Anchorage Grand Jury indicted 32-year-old Johnathen Larsen on charges of Second-Degree Murder, Manslaughter, and Criminally Negligent Homicide.

The investigation also revealed that earlier that same day, Larsen assaulted another person who lived in the residence using a blunt object, causing non-life-threatening injuries. The Grand Jury returned additional indictments related to that incident, charging Larsen with First-Degree Assault and Second-Degree Assault. Larsen remains in custody at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on these charges.
