NARRATIVE: At ​approximately 5:04 PM ​on August 16​, 2026​, officers responded to ​the intersection of Boniface Pkwy and Debarr Rd​ in reference to ​a stabbing​. Upon arrival officers located an adult male with trauma to the upper body. The victim has been transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Detectives have contacted everyone believed to be involved in this investigation and are not looking for anyone at this time. There is no current public safety threat related to this incident. 

APD CASE: ​26-21661​ 

On August 13th, 2026, at approximately 1:23 pm the Anchorage Police Department responded to the 7000 block of Debarr Road for reports of shots fired. The subject was located at the 6000 block of Debarr Road. Responding APD officers arrived at that location and one officer took position to make contact with the subject. Shortly after, the officer fired his weapon striking the subject. The involved officer is Ofc. Michael Shamblin and has been with the Anchorage Police Department since 2023. Officers immediately began life saving measures. The subject was transported to a local hospital and is currently listed as stable. No APD officers were injured. This is an ongoing investigation and APD will release additional details as they become available.

Per policy, the state’s Office of Special Prosecutions (OSP) will review the officer’s use of force and determine whether it was justified. Once that has been completed, APD Internal Affairs will review the officer’s actions to confirm whether there was any violation of policy. As per APD practice, the officer will be placed on administrative leave. Once OSP has completed their investigation, their findings will be available for the public to review.

ROAD CLOSURES: ​ Old Glenn Hwy ​is now open. 

UPDATED ON 8/16: On August 12, 2026, at about 8:13 pm, the Anchorage Police Department responded to the Old Glenn Highway near Park Place for a report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle. 

 Preliminary investigation indicates that a Toyota Rav4 was exiting a parking lot onto the Old Glenn Highway while two bicyclists were riding northbound. 

The Toyota Rav4 struck one of the bicyclists. The male juvenile bicyclist who had been struck by the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The juvenile died on August 15, 2026. Next-of-kin notification procedures are complete.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigation. No arrests have been made.

APD Case 26-20761

Locally, the Anchorage Police Department worked in partnership with Anchorage Parks & Recreation to host National Night Out at Russian Jack Springs Park. Families, neighbors and visitors gathered for the evening and focused on building connections, while learning about public safety. Attendees enjoyed complimentary hot dogs provided by AT&T, along with refreshments provided by Odom Corporation and ADT Security.

The community had an opportunity to meet first responders while exploring a variety of emergency response vehicles, specialized equipment and interactive displays. The Anchorage Police Department showcased its aerial drone program, SWAT vehicle, and Mobile Intervention Team (MIT). The Alaska State Troopers displayed The Rook, while the FBI Alaska Field Office featured its SWAT team display. The Anchorage Fire Department brought a ladder truck from Fire Station 3, along with a wildland firefighting vehicle.

National Night Out is a reminder that safe communities are built through partnerships, communication and trust. By bringing residents and first responders together in a welcoming environment, the event encourages conversations and relationships that extend far beyond a single evening.

National Night Out is sponsored nationally by the National Association of Town Watch and made possible locally through the generous support of AT&T, Odom Corporation, ADT Security, Anchorage Police Department, Anchorage Fire Department, Alaska State Troopers, the Office of Boating Safety, the FBI and Anchorage Parks & Recreation.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Buick was being driven eastbound on Spenard making a left turn on Wisconsin when it was struck by the motorcycle which was driving westbound on Spenard. The adult male identified as Jorge Martinez Jr, 40, driving a motorcycle was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The driver of the Buick and one passenger were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other passenger in the Buick was not injured.

Upon arrival, officers found two juveniles suffering from gunshot wounds, one to the upper body and the other to the lower body. Both were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

APD Case 26-20390

The investigation revealed a sedan was traveling southbound on N. Bragaw Street approaching Mountain View Drive. A tractor-trailer was traveling westbound on Mountain View drive through the intersection. Both vehicles collided and then both collided with the North side of 120 Bragaw Street, damaging the building. The driver of the sedan was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Devante Alexander 34, was arrested at the scene and remanded to the Anchorage Correctional Complex (ACC) on charges of Assault 1.

The driver of the taxicab, identified as 68-year-old Cemal Sadiku and the passenger of the taxicab, identified as 45-year-old William Phillips, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Three other passengers in the taxicab were also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Nex-of-kin notification procedures are complete.

The involved officer, identified as Ofc. Kaden Pohl who has been with the Anchorage Police Department since December 2020, was also transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation.

Original: The Anchorage Police Department is seeking public assistance in identifying a juvenile who was found in the area of W. 40th and Wilson.Please contact APD Dispatch at 3-1-1 or 907-786-8900 if you have information.

NARRATIVE: On July 28, 2026, at approximately 12:02 a.m. APD responded to the area of E Northern Lights Blvd and UAA Drive for a report of a collision with injuries. 

The investigation revealed that a GMC Sierra was driving eastbound on Northern Lights when it struck a light post in the southeast corner of the intersection. An adult female identified as Kylie Hoogendorn, 23, was declared deceased at the scene. Two juvenile occupants were transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. On July 30, 2026, one of the juveniles died at a local hospital.

NARRATIVE: On July 21, 2026, at approximately 1:12 am, officers responded to the 8000 block of East 5th Avenue for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located two male adults inside of a residence with gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. They are identified as Spencer King, 47 and Tajuan Jamestown, 19. Both were pronounced deceased by medics at the scene. Detectives have contacted everyone believed to be involved in this investigation and are not looking for anyone at this time. This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no public safety threat. Next-of-Kin notification prodecures are complete.
