Coney Shavanaux is approximately 5’11” tall, 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

REQUEST FOR PUBLIC ASSISTANCE: LOCATE FOR HIT AND RUN

The Anchorage Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating a report of a hit and run and are seeking the public’s help with identifying and locating the vehicle and driver.

On September 18, 2026, at about 10:00 PM, APD responded to the area of 5th Ave and C Street for a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. AFD transported the pedestrian to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

The vehicle involved was a 2017 to 2020 Nissan Rogue which did not stop. So far, attempts to identify and locate the vehicle have not yet been successful. This case is being investigated by the Major Collision Investigation Unit.

On September 26 at about 12:30 pm, a drone was deployed at the 9400 Block of Brayton Drive to assist with an investigation.

SHOOTING INVESTIGATION: 2400 BLOCK OF SPENARD ROAD

UPDATED: On September 26, 2026 at around 3 am, APD was called to the 2400 block of Spenard Road for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found four adult males suffering from gunshot wounds.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a group of people were walking in the area when another person discharged a firearm in their direction. Four people were struck and transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

There have been no arrests at this time. Anyone with information that has not already spoken to police is asked to call police dispatch at 3-1-1.

DRONE DEPLOYEMENT: 8000 BLOCK OF E 20TH

On September 24, 2026, Anchorage Police are requesting the public’s help in locating 13-year-old JAY MORIWAKI. JAY MORIWAKI was last seen at approximately 10:00PM on September 23, 2026 near the 1600 block of Vashon Circle.

He was last seen wearing a black Pokemon sweatshirt with Snorlax on it and a black cap.

AGENCY ASSIST: LOCATE MISSING JUVENILE, SPARROW KOWATCH

The Anchorage Police Department is assisting Alaska State Troopers and Wasilla Police in locating 16-year-old Sparrow Kowatch. Sparrow may be in Anchorage and was last seen on September 19, 2026 at the Burger King located at 1560 E Financial Dr in Wasilla, Alaska. Sparrow was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black wide leg pants, and black with pink shoes. She may possibly be in Anchorage.

On September 22, 2026 at approximately 5:30 a.m., the Anchorage Police Department sent a RAVE to notify the public that officers were in the area of Sabine Street and E. 142nd Ave. assisting Alaska Fish and Game with locating a nuisance brown bear. A drone was used to assist with the search.

TRAFFIC FATALITY: EAST 3RD AVENUE AND ORCA STREET

On September 17, 2026, at 8:13 a.m., APD responded to the intersection of East 3rd Avenue and Orca Street for reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. An adult female pedestrian, 71-year-old Mary Peter, was declared deceased on scene by medics from the Anchorage Fire Department.

The driver of the vehicle which struck the pedestrian, Anchorage resident Vaiee Samuelu, did not remain on scene but was contacted a short time later. She has been remanded at the Anchorage Jail for the offenses of Failing to Render Aid and Leaving the Scene of a Crash.

Next of kin notification procedures are complete. This is an ongoing investigation.

On September 13, 2026, at approximately 12:12 p.m., APD officers responded to the area of 22nd Avenue and Glacier Street to contact a victim whose vehicle had been taken at gunpoint. The suspect vehicle was later located at a residence at the 1900 block of E. 37th Avenue.

While officers were securing the residence at the 1900 block of E. 37th Avenue, an adult male exited at approximately 7:53 p.m. Officers gave commands to the suspect, but he did not comply and returned inside the residence.

A few minutes later, he exited the residence a second time and continued walking toward officers despite repeated commands to stop. The suspect then produced a handgun and pointed it at officers. Four APD officers identified as Thomas Harrison, Michael Montgomery, Michael Burns and Shane O’Quinn fired their weapons, striking the suspect. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. After the OIS, a SWAT callout was initiated. SWAT stayed on scene for several hours and used a variey of tactics, including drones, to safely clear the residence.

The state’s Office of Special Prosecutions (OSP) will review the officers’ use of force and determine whether it was justified. Once that has been completed, APD Internal Affairs will review the officers’ actions to confirm whether there was any violation of policy. As per APD practice, the officers will be placed on administrative leave. Once OSP has completed their investigation, their findings will be available for the public to review.

TRAFFIC FATALITY, HIT AND RUN: NORTH POST ROAD

On September 4, 2026, at around 9:16 pm, the Anchorage Police Department (APD) responded to the area of N Post Road between N Sitka Street and N Wrangell Street for a report of a collision between a motorcycle and a Jeep Cherokee. The adult male motorcyclist, identified as 25-year-old Miguel Pagan, was declared deceased at the scene. Next-of-kin notification procedures are complete.

The driver of the Jeep fled the scene in a different vehicle.

This is being investigated by the Major Collision Investigation Unit. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to call 311. TRAFFIC COLLISION: MILE 86 OF THE SEWARD HIGHWAY

At approximately 3:01PM on September 4, 2026 Anchorage Police responded to a collision between two vehicles near Mile 86 of the Seward Highway. Traffic should expect extended delays as crews work to clear the scene.

TRAFFIC COLLISION: DIMOND BLVD. & ANGE STREET

On Sept. 2, 2026, at about 8:46 pm, APD responded to Dimond and Ange Street for reports of a collision with injuries. Upon arrival, officers observed a truck upside down in a parking lot.

The preliminary investigation revealed that 21-year-old Wyatt Baker was driving a truck eastbound on Dimond Blvd. when he lost control of the truck and crashed into a nearby building. A passenger in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Wyatt Baker was also transported with non-life threatening injuries. Upon release, Wyatt Baker provided a breath sample and it was determined he was over the legal limit. He was remanded to the Anchorage Correctional Complex (ACC) on charges of DUI, Assault 1 and Reckless Driving.
