The preliminary investigation revealed that 21-year-old Wyatt Baker was driving a truck eastbound on Dimond Blvd. when he lost control of the truck and crashed into a nearby building. A passenger in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Wyatt Baker was also transported with non-life threatening injuries. Upon release, Wyatt Baker provided a breath sample and it was determined he was over the legal limit. He was remanded to the Anchorage Correctional Complex (ACC) on charges of DUI, Assault 1 and Reckless Driving.

 DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: ​August 29, 2026, approximately 11:00 PM​ 

NARRATIVE: At ​approximately 11:00 PM​ on ​August 29, 2026, officers responded to ​the 6700 block of E 6th Ave​ in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived, they found ​an adult male with gunshot wounds to the upper body​. Medics responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. 

 The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures are complete. 

Detectives have contacted everyone believed to be involved in this investigation and are not looking for anyone at this time.  The preliminary investigation shows this appears to be an isolated incident. The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased male with injuries to his upper body.  The Major Crime Scene Investigation Team were called in to further investigate. The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures are complete. There have been no arrests at this time.

APD Case: 26-0503396

ORIGINAL:On August 22, 2026, at around 1:22 am, the Anchorage Police Department (APD) responded to the intersection of the Seward Highway and Benson Blvd. for reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. Upon arrival, they discovered a female adult in the roadway.

The preliminary investigation found the woman was struck by a dark colored SUV, which did not stop.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead on scene by medics with the Anchorage Fire Department. The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

Throughout the duration of the call, crisis negotiators continued to try to contact the subject. The subject was observed pointing a gun out the window of the building in the direction of officers and citizens. An APD officer identified as Officer Misha Carlson then fired at the subject striking her in the upper body. The subject identified as Lora Brady, 53, was declared deceased. Next-of-kin notification procedures are complete. This is the 7th Officer Involved Shooting of 2026.

The state’s Office of Special Prosecutions (OSP) will review the officer’s use of force and determine whether it was justified. Once that has been completed, APD Internal Affairs will review the officer’s actions to confirm whether there was any violation of policy. As per APD practice, the officer will be placed on administrative leave. Once OSP has completed their investigation, their findings will be available for the public to review.

NARRATIVE: At ​approximately 5:04 PM ​on August 16​, 2026​, officers responded to ​the intersection of Boniface Pkwy and Debarr Rd​ in reference to ​a stabbing​. Upon arrival officers located an adult male with trauma to the upper body. The victim has been transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Detectives have contacted everyone believed to be involved in this investigation and are not looking for anyone at this time. There is no current public safety threat related to this incident. 

APD CASE: ​26-21661​ 

UPDATE, August 17, 2026:

On August 13th, 2026, at approximately 1:23 pm the Anchorage Police Department responded to the 7000 block of Debarr Road for reports of shots fired. The subject was located at the 6000 block of Debarr Road. Responding APD officers arrived at that location and one officer took position to make contact with the subject. Shortly after, the officer fired his weapon striking the subject. The involved officer is Ofc. Michael Shamblin and has been with the Anchorage Police Department since 2023. Officers immediately began life saving measures. The subject was transported to a local hospital and is currently listed as stable. No APD officers were injured. This is an ongoing investigation and APD will release additional details as they become available.

ROAD CLOSURES: ​ Old Glenn Hwy ​is now open. 

UPDATED ON 8/16: On August 12, 2026, at about 8:13 pm, the Anchorage Police Department responded to the Old Glenn Highway near Park Place for a report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle. 

 Preliminary investigation indicates that a Toyota Rav4 was exiting a parking lot onto the Old Glenn Highway while two bicyclists were riding northbound. 

The Toyota Rav4 struck one of the bicyclists. The male juvenile bicyclist who had been struck by the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The juvenile died on August 15, 2026. Next-of-kin notification procedures are complete.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigation. No arrests have been made.
