The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed. The adult male driver of a GMC Yukon remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. APD detectives are still working to understand the circumstances that led to her death. Hunt was staying in Anchorage while on her way to Alaska Christian College in Soldotna, Alaska. She was last seen in Anchorage on January 7, 2026, and was reported missing to APD on January 11, 2026. Her body was found in Anchorage on April 20, 2026. Earlier this year, the Alaska State Medical Examiner Office has determined the cause of death to be hypothermia due to exposure to extreme cold while intoxicated.

Because Hunt grew up in Shaktoolik, detectives believe people who knew her may have information about her life and contacts before her death. APD partnered with the U.S. Marshals Service, which provided a pilot, an aircraft, and a deputy U.S. marshal to make the trip possible. APD detectives and a deputy U.S. marshal spent the day in Shaktoolik interviewing community members in person to help build a clearer picture of the events before her death.

Oct. 5, 2026 (Anchorage, AK) – On Oct. 2, Anchorage Superior Court Judge McKenna sentenced Mario Jackson, 37, to a maximum composite sentence of 198 years to serve. This sentence follows Jackson’s convictions at trial for two counts of Murder in the First Degree convictions.

Jackson’s convictions stemmed from the Oct. 17, 2025 murders of Shelia Aguchak and Bobby DeLoach Jr. On that date, Jackson, who had romantic interests in Shelia, lured both victims to a specific location in Anchorage, and shot Bobby. As Bobby and Shelia fled the scene, Jackson followed them and eventually cornered them in a parking lot. These events in the parking lot were captured on video, Jackson is seen approaching Shelia and Bobby as they both pleaded with him to stop. Jackson calmly loaded his firearm and shot Shelia as she tried to run away. Jackson then reloaded the gun and shot them each in the head. Jackson then left the scene.

At the time of the homicides, the identity of the suspect was unknown. Thanks to the investigation by Anchorage Police Department’s Homicide Unit, traffic and surveillance cameras tracked the suspect to a room in the Travel Lodge, where he was eventually identified as Mario Jackson. Jackson denied being the shooter during the investigation and at trial.

In imposing the sentence, Judge McKenna found that these murders were the worst among the Murder in the First Degree cases that he has presided over. The court noted that these were clearly planned executions and that Jackson had significant opportunities to reflect on the gravity of his actions but instead chose to end two people’s lives.

This case was prosecuted by former Assistant District Attorney Betsy Bull and sentenced by Assistant District Attorney Rachel K. Gernat, both from the Anchorage District Attorney’s Office. This case was investigated by Detective Yi and the Anchorage Police Department’s Homicide Unit.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Anchorage Police Department Lieutenant Brian Fuchs has been named Employee of the Year at the Municipality of Anchorage's Annual Employee Awards Celebration that took place on September 29, 2026. The award recognizes a municipal employee whose service goes beyond the call of duty or significantly improves effectiveness and productivity.

Lt. Fuchs commands three of APD's units: the Homeless Outreach Prevention and Engagement (HOPE) Team, the Mobile Intervention Team (MIT), and the Innovative Methods of Policing and Community Togetherness (IMPACT) Team. His nominators credit the work of those teams with contributing to a nearly 30 percent reduction in unsheltered homelessness in Anchorage. His teams responded to 3,300 crisis calls and cleared over 150 encampments. Lt. Fuchs also led APD's enforcement and community rollout of the Municipality's new Title 8 public disorder codes, pairing compassionate outreach with firm public order enforcement.

Additionally, his nominators say outside of regular work hours, Lt. Fuchs is often at constituent meetings, community councils, meetings with business owners, or with anyone who requests his time. He consistently goes above and beyond to address community concerns as quickly as he can and never hesitates to take on a difficult problem.

NARRATIVE: At approximately 8:58 PM on September 29, 2026, officers responded to the 600 block of C St in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival officers located an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
