Their modelling suggests that ancient pieces of the Tethys Ocean’s crust sank deep into Earth’s mantle as the Indian tectonic plate moved northward. This movement may have displaced extremely hot, relatively low-density material beneath Africa, creating mantle plumes below the Indian Ocean. These deep-Earth structures reduced the amount of mass beneath the region and produced the gravitational low visible today. Scientists estimate that the anomaly may have formed around 20 million years ago and could remain for millions more. However, the proposed explanation is still being studied and is not considered the final answer. The gravity low poses no known threat to ships, aircraft or coastal communities. Its importance is scientific: it offers researchers a rare opportunity to understand Earth’s interior, ancient plate movements and the processes continuously reshaping the planet’s gravitational field. GFRP rods serve a different purpose: reinforcing concrete components. The appearance of a non-metallic rod alone is consequently not proof of corruption or unsafe construction. Citizens should check project specifications, certification and laboratory-test records before reaching conclusions. Small payments made through UPI Lite can be completed more quickly and may also work with limited or no mobile internet after offline payments have been activated. The service will initially depend on support from individual UPI applications, banks and merchants. It also requires an NFC-compatible smartphone and receiving device, meaning customers cannot use it at every QR-code location immediately. The launch places UPI in more direct competition with card-based contactless services and mobile wallets, including Apple Pay, which is expected to receive a broader Indian rollout. UPI processed 24.51 billion transactions worth ₹29.82 trillion in August 2026 alone. Tap & Pay could make the system faster at supermarkets, restaurants, petrol stations and crowded retail counters, where repeatedly scanning QR codes can slow transactions.
