The Henry Ford Estate and organizations will celebrate automobile pioneer Henry Ford’s 150th Birthday throughout Dearborn will host a community party on July 27.

“Coming Together: A Celebration of Henry Ford’s 150th Birthday” will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Henry Ford Fair Lane Estate in Dearborn.

As part of the celebration, Henry Ford Community College culinary arts students will provide attendees with gourmet food and treats inspired by the Ford family. A specially created Henry Ford-themed cake and ice carving will showcase the talents of the students while honoring the college’s namesake.

The day-long party features live music reminiscent of Henry and Clara Ford’s interest in preserving traditional American genres; and dance demonstrations focusing on the Fords’ love of dancing and Fair Lane’s history as a place where many parties were held.

Other activities include a special Dearborn Farmer’s Market, and a display of influential Ford automobiles highlighting outstanding innovations from Ford’s career. The public can also tour the estate gardens, and relax on the riverfront grounds while enjoying specialty foods from a Food Truck rally or gather with friends in the Tashmoo Biergarten.

July 27 will also mark the official transfer of the estate from the University of Michigan to a newly formed not-for-profit education organization. On this day, the estate will begin a new journey as it is restored, re-imagined and positioned for the 21st century.

One of the highlights of the celebration will be the opportunity for the public to tour the Ford’s home before the work begins. Local, regional and state dignitaries, along with representatives from the Ford family and University of Michigan, will be on hand for a special presentation at 11:30 a.m.

“We are thrilled to invite the community to join us at the estate for a day of great food, good music, magical memories, the excitement of ‘being there’ as the estate begins its new journey,” said Kathleen Mullins, president of the Historic Ford Estates (Henry Ford Estate and the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House). “It will be a day to recognize and celebrate the many contributions of Henry and Clara … from cars to music to dancing to the bounty of farm fields.”

“Coming Together” is sponsored by the Ford Motor Company Fund and Oakwood Health System. Other sponsors include the University of Michigan-Dearborn, Henry Ford Community College, Henry Ford Heritage Association, City of Dearborn, Dearborn Chamber of Commerce and Tashmoo Beirgarten.

The Henry Ford Estate was named a National Historic Landmark in 1966, making it among the first in the nation to receive the designation under the newly formed National Register of Historic Places. The estate served as the family home of Henry and Clara Ford from 1915 until 1950, when upon Clara’s death, it was given by the Ford family to Ford Motor Company.

The company donated the estate and the farmlands to the University of Michigan for construction of the University of Michigan-Dearborn campus in 1957.

Honda’s new CR-V will be made in India for Price Competitiveness. As Japanese automaker Honda is planning to assemble its sports utility vehicle CR-V in India to benefit from tax cuts and keep the competitive price tag when the fourth generation CR-V is launched next month.

Honda Car India will bring the new SUV with 2.0 litre and 2.4 litre petrol engines options just like the old CR-V, which has already been discontinued, a trade official said.

The price of the new vehicle will be lower than its outgoing sibling that was available in the price band of 22.91 lakh to 25.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and was imported directly from Japan, the person said.The local assembly of the new CR-V will be done at Honda’s Noida plant. Honda Car India did not confirm the CKD strategy, but confirmed that the new CR-V would hit the market in February.

“We will be launching the all-new fourth generation Honda CR-V next month in the Indian market. All the details of the new car will be shared at the time of the launch,” a company spokeswoman said. Honda CR-V, which used to be the segment leader, has in recent years lost out to diesel-powered competition that include Mitsubishi Outlander, GM Captiva, Hyundai Santa Fe, Renault Koleos and Toyota Fortuner in the 18-25 lakh price band.

It will be a tough task for the new CR-V to catch up with market leader Toyota Fortuner. Priced 21.36 lakh to 22.93 lakh in Delhi, Fortuner runs on diesel, which is around 25% cheaper than petrol.

Analysts tracking the automotive sector say that fuel price plays a major role in the success as most SUV are guzzlers. “Given the current scenario there is hardly any petrol SUV model that charts any decent sales. The Fortuner or the BMW X1 or the Audi SUV that are currently the hot sellers all have diesel as the common median for their sales traction,” said a Mumbai-based consultant working with a multinational.

Centuro and Pantero are not the first bikes launched by Mahindra 2 Wheelers. Its first motorcycle launched in 2010, the Stallio but it was forced to withdraw from the market following weak consumer demand and having technical faults. With the launch of the new bikes Mahindra 2 Wheelers wants to fetch some this 110cc motorcycle market segment in India.“Pantero should be out in the next couple of weeks and Centuro a few weeks thereafter,” said Anoop Mathur, president, two wheeler sector and member of the group executive board, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

Mr Mathur, however, did not disclose the prices. Designed completely in-house at the Mahindra R&D Centre in Pune and powered by the MCi-5 engine manufactured at the company’s Pithampur facility in Madhya Pradesh, the motorcycle models possess intelligent and class-defining features targeted at distinct consumer segments, the company said.

The company has invested Rs. 100 crore in the research and development of the products but “it is difficult to give total investment in product development as there is a lot of common platform sharing”, Mr Mathur said.

Honda’s other hybrid and alternative fuel cars, the natural-gas-powered Civic and the hydrogen-powered FCX Clarity.

The Fit EV’s most obvious competitor is the Nissan Leaf, which is available nationwide in more reasonable numbers — nearly 10,000 sold last year — and which also has that benefit of actually being able to be purchased should you want one. (Remember that when you lease any EV, the manufacturer takes the $7,500 tax credit to reduce the monthly price; if you don’t buy it, you can’t claim it.)

Price and availability aside, the Fit EV feels like it’s ready to take on the entire country, not just a handful of states. Here’s what we thought, based on our rough hour behind the wheel.

Benefits and positive Points

Awesome acceleration: The Fit EV, unlike the Leaf, has a sport mode that extracts the full 92 kilowatts available from the 20-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. We mashed the throttle at every opportunity and were never disappointed. It’ll beat almost any 4-cylinder compact off the line.
Excellent brake feel: Hybrids and EVs slow down by using only a small portion of the brake pads. In moderate braking, the friction of an electric generator, used to recharge the batteries, is enough. But this often leads to an inconsistent or artificial feel under your foot. Not with the Fit EV. This is perhaps the most natural, progressive braking system we’ve sampled in an electric car, and it’s very reassuring over repeated hard stops.

Faster charging: We couldn’t verify any range or charging claims, but Honda says the battery can be fully recharged from dead to full in three hours on a 240-volt connection. The EPA-adjusted range is 82 miles, about that of the Leaf. The Fit EV uses a higher-capacity inboard charger that lets it suck more juice in the same amount of time. Whether it reduces battery life is another issue, but reducing downtime is a big plus.

Negative Points

Lesser materials: While the interior is quiet at high speeds, the overall quality leans toward economy versus the “business-class” finish of the Leaf. Plastics and assembly aren’t as good, nor is the low-resolution, calculator-like infotainment system, which looks and functions years behind the competition. For the price, the Leaf comes with more standard, useful features such as LED headlamps, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel and keyless entry with push-button start, though Honda’s smartphone application and key fob, which lets the driver switch on the climate control from afar, look promising.

Stability and grip: The Fit’s quick steering and light, nimble chassis remain intact, even with a few extra hundred pounds of batteries. But the low-rolling-resistan​ce tires don’t have enough grip. They chirp constantly. On a back-to-back autocross test, the Fit EV was less stable and predictable than the wider, longer Leaf. It felt that way on the highway, too.

Price: OK, we’ve already mentioned this, but for double the price of a regular Fit, you get only a quarter of the range. The technology is great, yet it’s just not acceptable for the mass market. The Honda Fit Hybrid, on sale in Europe and Japan, could solve that in a hurry. (source:MSN)

* There are limited number of service centers which give really poor response upon calling. As the design is complex most of the bike mechanics will refuse to touch the bike, you will be surprised to know that even at the service centers across Delhi the mechanics were oblivious of how the bike functioned and were limited to amount of service they could provide you.
So if you are stuck somewhere in the middle of a road don’t expect any help you might need a truck or some really powerful carrier to lift this beast to a nearby service center.
