Dr. Brown is a dynamic and internationally recognized conductor known for her passionate leadership, innovative programming, and commitment to making symphonic music accessible and engaging for audiences of all ages. A native of Northern California, she brings a deep-rooted love for community-centered music-making, education, and has a distinguished career founding and conducting professional orchestras, and youth ensembles, as well as global guest conducting engagements.

She currently serves as Conductor and Artistic Director of the Reno Pops Orchestra, the Ruby Mountain Symphony, and the Northern Nevada String Serenade, where her leadership has expanded audiences, elevated artistic quality, and strengthened musical connections within those communities. Her work has also taken her across the world, including guest conducting appearances with professional orchestras in Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia.

Dr. Brown holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and has studied orchestral conducting with many internationally-renowned conductors, including Gustav Meier, Markand Thakar, Diane Wittry, Jonathan Bret, and Alexander Polyanichko. She is widely recognized for her energetic rehearsal style, collaborative spirit, and ability to inspire musicians to achieve their highest potential. She is also deeply committed to music education and outreach, having worked with thousands of young musicians and audiences throughout her career.

From Student Musician to Community Leader

Dr. Rojas’ connection to music began in the classrooms and band rooms of the New Haven Unified School District, including Cabello Elementary, Alvarado Middle School (now known as Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School), and James Logan High School. As a student at James Logan, he performed as a trombonist in the school’s award-winning marching, concert, and jazz bands—experiences that shaped his lifelong appreciation for the power of music education and ensemble performance. He went on to dedicate 16 years of his professional career to James Logan High School, the Bay Area’s largest and most diverse high school, serving in multiple leadership roles including science teacher, Director of Student Activities, House Principal, and Schoolwide Vice Principal. During his tenure, he actively supported the growth and visibility of Logan’s performing and visual arts programs, strengthening systems that allowed student musicians and artists to thrive both competitively and artistically.

Also, from 1997 to 2007, Dr. Rojas served as Director of Liturgy and Music at St. Anne Catholic Church in Union CIty, where he led comprehensive music ministry programs, directed choirs and instrumental ensembles, coordinated large-scale liturgical celebrations, and cultivated intergenerational volunteer leadership within the parish community. He later served as Liturgy Coordinator at St. Joseph - Old Mission San Jose Parish in Fremont from 2007 to 2012, overseeing worship planning, sacred music programming, and collaboration with clergy, staff, and lay leaders. Dr. Rojas also served as a youth and young adult representative on the planning committee for the Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland and was a member of its dedication choir. Across 15 years of parish leadership, Dr. Rojas developed deep expertise in artistic programming, volunteer management, event production, budget stewardship, and community engagement—experience that continues to inform his commitment to meaningful, accessible musical experiences that bring diverse communities together.

“Music education and performance shaped who I am,” said Dr. Rojas. “To now serve as Executive Director of Bay Philharmonic—an organization committed to access, excellence, community, and youth development—is both humbling and deeply personal.”

A Proven Executive Leader

Dr. Rojas most recently served as Founding Principal of Emerald High School in Dublin, the newest comprehensive high school built in Alameda County in over 50 years. In this role, he led the opening of a $400 million state-of-the-art campus, overseeing the development of academic systems, staffing structures, operational protocols, and school culture from inception. Beyond facilities, he designed and launched innovative academic pathways aligned to college and career readiness, secured competitive grants to expand Career Technical Education (CTE) and skilled trades programs, and built strong partnerships with business and community organizations. Under his leadership, Emerald established robust extracurricular programming—including athletics, performing arts, student leadership, and clubs—alongside nonprofit booster organizations to ensure long-term sustainability. His work reflected a comprehensive vision: building not just a campus, but a thriving, future-focused educational institution grounded in opportunity, access, and community engagement.

Prior to that he was the Principal of Milpitas High School—the largest high school in Silicon Valley—where he championed the expansion and visibility of the school’s performing arts programs, strengthening band, choir, theater, dance, and visual arts pathways as essential components of a comprehensive high school experience. Under his leadership, the district advanced a bond-funded Innovation Campus for future-ready learning as well as a Performing Arts Center and fully equipped 600-seat theater facility—set to open in Spring 2026—creating a state-of-the-art venue designed to elevate student performances, community events, and regional arts partnerships. His advocacy ensured that arts education remained central to campus culture, student engagement, and long-term institutional planning.

He earned his Doctor of Education from the U.C. Berkeley School of Education Leaders for Equity and Democracy program, where his research examined how school and organizational leaders design inclusive systems that foster belonging, engagement, and equitable access for diverse communities—principles closely aligned with Bay Philharmonic’s evolving vision. His scholarship has extended beyond his dissertation, as he has presented his research and leadership frameworks to national and international audiences at educational research and leadership conferences across the United States. Through these presentations, Dr. Rojas has shared practical strategies for building culturally responsive institutions, strengthening extracurricular, athletics, and arts-based engagement systems, and aligning governance with mission-driven impact—demonstrating his ability to translate research into action at scale.

As Executive Director, Dr. Rojas will oversee operations, philanthropy, marketing, partnerships, and strategic growth in collaboration with the Board of Trustees and artistic leadership. In accordance with Bay Philharmonic’s governance model, the Board maintains fiduciary oversight while empowering executive leadership to guide day-to-day operations and long-term strategy. The organization’s Collective Agreement emphasizes inclusivity, collaboration, accountability, and progressive innovation—values that will guide this next chapter of leadership.

Ringo Starr didn’t play drums on the original “Love Me Do”

When the Beatles recorded “Love Me Do” on September 11, 1962, producer George Martin wasn’t sure about Ringo Starr’s drumming. So, session drummer Andy White was brought in to play drums, and Ringo played tambourine. White's version was used on the U.S. single and the “Please Please Me” album.

Saturday Night Live offered the Beatles $3,000 to reunite on the show

On a 1976 episode of “Saturday Night Live,” creator Lorne Michaels jokingly offered The Beatles a check for $3,000 in exchange for reuniting on his show. (“You divide it any way you want; If you want to give Ringo less, that’s up to you,” Michaels deadpanned.) Little did he know that Lennon was watching the live broadcast at his home in New York, and suggested to McCartney that they take him up on his offer. Ultimately, they decided against it for a night off.

Paul McCartney’s “Yesterday” was initially titled “Scrambled Eggs”

Paul McCartney composed the melody for “Yesterday” in a dream. Unsure if he had subconsciously plagiarized it, he used placeholder lyrics: “Scrambled eggs, oh my baby how I love your legs.” He later confirmed the melody was original and finalized the lyrics.

The Beatles wanted to make a “Lord of the Rings” film

In the late 1960s, The Beatles expressed interest in adapting J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” into a film, casting themselves in lead roles and with Stanley Kubrick as director. Tolkien declined their proposal. (He was worried it would be turned into a psychedelic musical.)

“Twist and Shout” was recorded in a single take

John Lennon’s vocals on “Twist and Shout” were recorded in one take at the end of a marathon recording session. His voice was nearly gone, resulting in the raw, iconic performance we hear today.

The Beatles popularized backward recording techniques

You may be saying – what? The song “Rain” features reversed vocals, making it among the first recordings to use this technique. They didn’t invent backmasking, but John Lennon discovered the effect accidentally and decided to use it on the track.

Several Beatles songs were banned by the BBC

The BBC banned songs like “I Am the Walrus,” “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” and “A Day in the Life” due to perceived drug references, explicit lyrics, and the use of product names (like Coca-Cola). The actual number of songs banned or the restrictions put on them is unclear.

A tourist accidentally appears on the “Abbey Road” cover

American tourist Paul Cole didn’t know he was becoming part of music history when he appeared in the background of the “Abbey Road” album cover photo (he’s standing on the pavement to the right of the Beatles). He only realized it was him after his wife bought the album.

George Harrison’s son believed his father was a gardener

Harrison’s son, Dhani, thought his father was a gardener for the first seven years of his life. “My earliest memory of my dad is probably of him somewhere in a garden covered in dirt, somewhere hot, a tropical garden, in jeans, khakis covered in dirt, just continuously planting trees,” Dhani shared in Martin Scorsese’s 2011 documentary, George Harrison: Living in the Material World. Harrison’s gardening passion was well-known among close friends.

Yes, that’s true. It’s commonly known as the “Moonlight Sonata” in reverse. John heard Yoko Ono play the piece’s first movement at the piano, then asked her to play the chord progression backwards and fashioned a melody around it.

Visionary Conductor taking final bow at Beatles Finale on June 22

Fremont, CA – After eight seasons of extraordinary leadership and growth, the Bay Philharmonic announces the departure of its beloved Artistic Director and Conductor, Jung-Ho Pak. Known for his visionary programming, deep connection with audiences and passion for making classical music more accessible, Pak has transformed the Bay Philharmonic into a dynamic, inclusive and innovative force in the arts community.

Pak’s final performance with the Bay Philharmonic will take place on June 22 at Chabot College Performing Arts Center, featuring a high-energy, Beatles Tribute Show — a fitting send-off for a conductor who has always infused music with joy, imagination, and a touch of the unexpected.

A Legacy of Innovation and Connection

Since joining the Bay Philharmonic, Pak has redefined what an orchestra can be, introducing groundbreaking performances that blend classical and contemporary influences, forging new collaborations, and inspiring audiences of all ages. Under his direction, the Philharmonic has not only grown artistically but has also deepened its impact on the community.

“Jung-Ho has been more than our Artistic Leader—he has been the heart and soul of the Bay Philharmonic,” said Board Chair Donald Pipkin. “His ability to connect with audiences, reinvent the concert experience, and bring people together through music has left an indelible mark. Bay Phil Youth Orchestra shines
in Fall concert

After a successful Summer Ensemble Program led by Judy Lam, the Bay Phil Youth Orchestra started the Fall Session in September with our new BPYO Music Director Dr. Carlos Hernandez. Nearly 60 young musicians performed during the November 9 Music for the People program at the Irvington Presbyterian Church. Performing in small ensembles and as a complete orchestra, these students delivered an inspiring program.

This concert not only celebrated the handoff from longtime leaders Judy and Marcella Schantz to Carlos, but also brought together existing, incoming, and outgoing political leaders. Among them was  Mayor Raj Salwan, Fremont’s first Indian American mayor. On behalf of Supervisor David Haubert, Kathy Kimberlin honored Judy and Marcella for their years of dedication in founding and growing BPYO. She also warmly welcomed Dr. Hernandez with a special commendation, applauding his debut and wishing him success in his new role.

Two Holiday Spectacular
shows delight guests

The Bay Phil season opener was nothing short of spectacular, featuring a dazzling lineup of custom orchestra arrangements—made possible by the generosity of Paul Langford—and a program packed with amazing local and national guest artists.

If you missed it, here’s what the audience enjoyed: Chicago-based guest artists Lem and Langford, the voices of the Oakland Interfaith Youth Choir, and a heartwarming sing-along.

During two dynamic shows on December 14 and 15, guests were treated to not only beloved holiday classics performed by our incredible Bay Phil Orchestra but also the return of ballet dancers from Yoko’s Dance and Performing Arts Academy and former Conductor of the Fremont Symphony David Sloss. And in a Bay Phil first, Fremont’s own Full Potential hip-hop dance troupe performed to a Nutcracker selection that redefined holiday tradition.

This inclusive, joy-filled program embraced many faiths, featuring sacred music, Hanukkah songs, and a soul-stirring a cappella tribute to Kwanzaa principles. We were honored to celebrate the season with all 1,421 of you who made these performances so special!

➡️ A particularly meaningful highlight: We welcomed more than 400 attendees from our All Access Program—clients of local nonprofit organizations—many of whom experienced the magic of a Bay Phil performance for the very first time. Music is for everyone, and we were thrilled to share this unforgettable moment with our community.

Fremont, CA – For the first time since COVID, Bay Philharmonic is presenting two Holiday Spectacular shows on Saturday, December 14 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, December 15 at 3 pm at the Chabot College Performing Arts Center in Hayward.

You can expect a thrilling, uplifting experience at the Bay Area’s Best Holiday Spectacular. A diverse array of phenomenal dancers, incredible vocalists, and your Bay Philharmonic orchestra - led by your joyous host, Conductor Jung-Ho Pak. Prepare to be dazzled and delighted, and leave smiling, singing, and humming all the way home.  

“I can’t wait to be on stage with all these great performers and share so much beautiful music with you,” said Jung-Ho. “I’m like a kid in a musical candy store!” 

The program features pop, jazz, classical, and pop music and will celebrate Christmas, Chanukah, and Kwanza—with holiday favorites and new renditions. And of course, a visitor from the North Pole too. 

For the first time, Bay Phil is joined by hip-hop group Full Potential, who will perform a Nutcracker selection. “We’re excited about the exchange of energy between the two groups,” commented Duncan Padilla. “It’s so different to dance with a live group (instead of a recording).”

The lineup includes: 

• Full Potential  (Formerly known as Feel Projection Dance Company, LLC.) is a Fremont-based choreography-based dance troupe established in 2016

• Oakland Interfaith Youth Choir which celebrates diverse communities through song and is comprised of East Bay youth aged 7 –17

• Lelm & Langford - a Chicago-based piano/vocal duo, specializing in jazz, pop and orchestral performances

• Yoko's Dance and Performing Arts Academy is well known for excellence in  providing dance instruction in ballet, jazz, tap (and more) to students of all ages 

• Bay Phil Youth Orchestra (BPYO), created by Judy Lam eight years ago, provides musical skills development and personal growth to local young people 

In addition, two Guest Conductors will share the Holiday Spectacular stage: Dr. Carlos Hernandez, BPYO Music Director and Bay Phil Artistic Administrator; and David Sloss, who served for 32 years as Artistic Director and Conductor of the former Fremont Symphony and is the founding Director of Fremont Opera.

Fremont, CA – As the Bay Philharmonic began its 60th year of operation, the company adopted a Collaborative Team Management model and elected a new Board of Directors—Key actions taken to sustain growth and serve more Bay Area residents.

Bay Phil believes this innovative business model—built on a flat organizational structure with Board and Staff working together as a Team—helps leaders function most effectively in the best interests of the organization and build an inspiring, inclusive and values-driven culture.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Board of Directors focuses on governance and fiduciary responsibility; and Artistic Director Jung-Ho Pak and Operations Leaders Candy Culver and Dr. Carlos Hernandez manage programming, production, development, marketing, box office, and volunteers. A Finance Committee team oversees Bay Phil’s financial health.

New Operations Leaders

Bay Phil’s Operations Leaders are: Candy Culver, Dr. Carlos Hernandez and Jung-Ho Pak.

Candy, a 25+-year Bay Area nonprofit development and marketing consultant, joined Bay Phil in January. She is passionate about working with the organization to help under-served communities and people, giving them access to the power of music she was privileged to experience, starting in her childhood. Music was a constant thread in her life, and she became a band member (playing 2 instruments) and vocalist starting in 5th grade.

Making a difference is Candy’s personal mission, and the connection to Bay Phil and music brings her background and experience full circle. A graduate of Ball State University (something she and Carlos have in common), she has also received more than a dozen awards for her work from the International Association of Business Communicators.

Candy is Bay Phil’s Director of Philanthropy, Business Partnerships and Marketing — managing marketing and advertising, box office, volunteer programs and finances.

Carlos was born and raised in Miami, and has conducted and led ensembles since he was 15 years’ old. He has served locally, nationally and internationally as a conductor, educator & facilitator.

Carlos holds four degrees in music – all with a major or minor emphasis in conducting; 3 from Florida International University along with his Doctorate from Ball State University. His doctoral studies focused on entrepreneurship in music, allowing him to dive deeper into business administration and the nonprofit sector. 

Joy, purposeful engagement, rigor, social consciousness, and ensemble empowerment guide his conversations with musicians about, and through, high-quality experiences. Carlos aims to provide transformative experiences for musicians and audiences within, and beyond the concert hall.

He joined the team in May as Bay Phil’s Artistic Administrator and Bay Phil Youth Orchestra’s (BPYO) Music Director — managing all production and education efforts. Carlos is one of the only Latino youth conductors in the Bay Area.

Artistic Director and Conductor Jung-Ho Pak is well-known by Bay Phil followers, guests and volunteers who have experienced all the incredible magic of Bay Phil Shows he creates in recent years. He brought over 35 years’ of experience conducting acclaimed professional and conservatory orchestras around the world to the Bay Phil six years ago when he became Artistic Advisor. During that time, he also worked bi-coastal, as the Artistic Director and Conductor for the Cape Symphony in Massachusetts. Today, his Bay Phil role includes programming main shows, selecting and working with guest artists, and conducting.

One of the only Korean-American conductors in the United States, Jung-Ho has long believed that what music gives us is so much more than the music itself. He was the first to state: Our purpose is to deliver beauty and joy in an accessible way and for that joy to inspire hope and for hope to create social change.

The 24/25 Board of Directors is chaired by Donald Pipkin (President), Washington Hospital’s Healthcare Strategy & Development Executive. With 18+ years of hospital management experience, he leads a Trustee team that includes:

Donald, Washington Hospital’s Chief of Strategic Management with 18 years of experience, is passionate about ensuring that the arts, particularly musical arts, are accessible to all. He believes that all kinds of creative arts are critical to a vibrant society and that the pursuit of curiosity, expression, and happiness are cornerstones of our existence. Donald is personally and professionally excited to work with a highly creative, expressive, and compassionate team at Bay Phil and is committed to the organization’s mission, spirit, and vision.

Donald received his Master of Healthcare Administration degree from the University of Washington in Seattle.

Eva-Maria is Founder and CEO of Mission Peak Health, Inc., former CFO of CardioGrade Inc., former CFO of Robert Tisdale Veterinary Hospital for 30+ years, Founder of San Ramon Valley German Language School, and Fremont Symphony’s 1991-1993 Past Board President. She adds deep Fremont community involvement and expertise in financial leadership, change management, operations management, and human resources to the Board. Eva-Maria excels in developing individuals and teams to achieve objectives.

German-born, raised and educated, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Wirtschaftsinstitute Konstanzm; studied Literature at the University of Pennsylvania as well as Economics, Psychology and Business at Ohlone College; and was certified as a trainer in Neurolinguistic Programming at the University of Santa Cruz.

Her mission in life is to strive for excellence with honesty, responsibility and passion to contribute to society in a healthy way.

Cecilia’s mission is to disrupt the creative industry. An entrepreneur, brand marketer, executive producer, and lover of music, design, fashion, and art. She is the CEO and Co-founder of Ciel Creative Space, a multi-use artistic Berkeley sanctuary with 55,000 square feet of connecting studios and event space.

Ceclia has 25+ years of experience in advertising, music, tech and fashion industries—and founded and led creative teams at Indigo Sky, producing award-winning work for Condé Nast, Gap, Airbnb, Facebook, and Samsung, among others. 

Her commitment to the creative arts communities around the globe is seen in her committee or board member work for SoHo House, DesignBayArea, and Berkeley Chambers as well as her involvement and support of the Women’s Presidents Organization and various national and international nonprofits.

Lisa has a passion for building community and bringing people together.  She enthusiastically joined the Bay Philharmonic/Fremont Symphony board in 2019, serving as President 2020-2024 to help spread the word of the incredible talent brought to the stage by the Bay Phil.   

As a Wealth Building Coach with Wealth Space Financial Services since 2012 and a Realtor with Intero Real Estate Services since 2002, Lisa is known for helping people achieve their financial goals and home ownership dreams. She founded the Depot Café in the historic Fremont train station in 1999 and most recently, brought the first One Kitchen franchise to the West Coast.

She has proudly served the broader community through Niles-Rotary as a member since 2001, as President of Niles-Fremont Rotary Club in 2015-2016, and as Assistant Governor and Lieutenant Governor for the Rotary’s #1 District in North America, Rotary District 5170, from 2018 – 2024.

Gary Charland brings more than 25 years of experience in innovative and strategic health care leadership to his Board role. He retired from his 10-year position as President /CEO of Masonic Homes of California in 2023, having previously served as its Trustee for 6 years. Gary was instrumental in the formation and growth of the Washington Township Medical Foundation, the third largest Medical Group in the Silicon Valley, which he served as the Executive Director for nearly four years.

A community leader in the greater Union City area, Gary was also the chairman of the Board of the Newark Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Grants Committee for the Niles Rotary, and is a former Board Member of the Alameda Health System.

Collective Culture Agreement
Along with the new business model, leaders approved a Collective Culture Agreement that defines the company’s values: inclusive, progressive, nurturing, responsive, respectful, kind, and accountable.

The new Management Model, Board Leaders, and Culture Agreement fulfill the company’s desire to apply its 60 years of experience to move forward professionally and sustainably, opening doors to new opportunities and entertainment that best delivers all the beauty and joy of music to more Bay Area communities.

The Bay Phil Youth Orchestra (BPYO) Summer Ensemble Program the week of July 22-26 was a wonderful experience for the young musicians, culminating with a fantastic concert! The week started with the 24 young musicians, about half of whom are current members of BPYO, meeting the newest enrollees for the first time. It didn”t take long for them to get to know each other and start working hard on their music.

Under the guidance of Director Judy Lam, there were groups of varying sizes: full ensemble, quartets, duos, trios, and small chamber ensembles, for a total of 14 musical selections.

The configurations included strings, flutes, brass, marimba and piano. It was also an exciting opportunity for many of the Virtuosi musicians to hone their conducting skills! Vanya, Sindhu, Calvin, Pooja, June, Bhavya, and Harlan all conducted chamber pieces. For the smaller chamber ensembles, there were leadership opportunities for first-chair musicians to queue their group from their instrument, in true chamber music style.

Two of Judy’s special needs students participated in the concert:  Ansel, who did a great job joining the ensemble on violin for Rondeau by Mouret; and Alice, who performed beautifully, along with Harlan, in a two-piano rendition of the gorgeous Var. 18 of Rhapsody on a theme by Pagannini by Rachmaninoff.

Parents, families and Bay Phil attended recital

There were more than 50 parents and family members in the audience who delighted in seeing and hearing all that was accomplished in just one week!

Special guest, Bay Phil Artistic Director and Conductor Jung-Ho Pak let the audience know that the BPYO students would have opportunities to perform with the professional musicians of the Bay Phil during the upcoming 24/25 season - and handed all the young musicians’ certificates of completion.    

Candy Culver, Bay Phil Director of Philanthropy, Business Partnerships and Marketing shared our gratitude for the parents’ and families’ support of their young musicians through this program and ways that support can continue throughout the season.

As the saying goes, “it takes a village” for our young musicians to learn and thrive.   

In addition to their own hard work, there are many people to thank:

• Ms. Judy Lam, founder and Director of the BPYO for the past 8 years. Her vision and incredible energy have given us the gift of BPYO and education for young musicians in our community.   

• Merna Morse, for her dedication to young musicians and her coaching of several groups throughout the week. 

• The Fremont United Methodist Church for providing our wonderful venue.

•  Incoming BPYO Music Director Dr. Carlos Hernandez, who will continue the program into the future. (We know with him the program will move forward and thrive!)

• Marcella Schantz, who coached several groups during the week, and enjoyed seeing all of the talent, cooperative spirit, and musical growth that these young musicians achieved in such a short period of time.   

• Special thanks to the many BPYO parents who are dedicated to their students’ musical journey, and who help make this program a success by volunteering their time and talent.   

• Special thanks to our Parent organizers, Lexi and Jenny, who have devoted countless hours and super-hero energy to BPYO!

Along with Ms. Judy who is retiring as Director and Conductor of BPYO, I (Marcella Schantz) am retiring as conductor of the BPYO Melodia Ensemble. Rest assured, though, Judy and I will be here to support the group in any way needed in the future.

Passion for music, and any cultural art form, is a lifelong pursuit. There is a special bond created in relationships built in a cultural environment, nurtured by mutual love and respect for art forms that require few words and connect people on a very deep level. It is very fulfilling to see this continuing with the young musicians of BPYO.

Bay Philharmonic Presents Tchaikovsky Gold Alongside Masterful Pianist Jon Nakamatsu - Sunday, June 23

Fremont, CA -- Bay Philharmonic is excited to announce its season finale Tchaikovsky Gold performance on Sunday, June 23, at 3 p.m., at their premier venue, Chabot College Performing Arts Center in Hayward, CA. The music of Tchaikovsky has sparked the imagination of the world. From the dramatic 1812 Overture to the beloved Nutcracker, his music always touches the heart.

The Bay Philharmonic is presenting two of his most famous pieces alongside International Van Cliburn Piano Competition gold medalist, Jon Nakamatsu. Heralded as the “pianist’s pianist,” Jon’s touch on the keyboard is sophisticated and masterful, and he will perform the most famous piano concerto ever written. For this show, one of the first female Guest Conductors of the Bay Philharmonic, Lara Webber, and the Bay Philharmonic will share their passion for Tchaikovsky’s ultra-dramatic 4th Symphony, his musical biography of a hero overcoming fate to triumph with hope and victory.

“You’ll be so thrilled by Tchaikovsky’s music, Bay Philharmonic musicians, and the incredible talent of Jon Nakamatsu,” said Guest Conductor Lara Webber. “This show is sure to stir your soul!"

FURTHERMORE, this Board of Supervisors commends Jung-Ho Pak, known for his unique approach and vision for symphonic music, and a frequent speaker on television and radio, including TED Talks and National Public Radio , and appears as a clinician and conductor at major musical festival nationwide. His leadership is inclusive of all ages, genres, and cultures. His motto “We have to give music back to the people”.

We believe in the power of personal instruction. Whether your children are budding prodigies or taking their first steps in the world of music, our 2024 Summer Ensemble Program doors are open to you. Led by the Conductor of the Bay Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (BPYO) Judy Lam, our in-person, hands-on classes for youth aged 8 to 18 provide invaluable training, insight, and encouragement. We nurture talent and passion!

From July 22 - 26, young musicians (strings and winds) of all levels participate in trios and quartets. Rehearsals are Monday through Thursday from 9 am to noon, with a Final Recital on Friday. The program is held at First United Methodist Church, 2950 Washington Boulevard in Fremont.

To give each participant the best guidance, we ask for a video of a solo recording of the young musician during the registration process. This allows us to place them in groups that match their skill levels, giving them the best opportunity for challenging and achievable growth. Once registered, participants receive music assignments in advance, providing ample time for practice and preparation.
