A new report estimates more than 50,000 people died in Europe’s cities over the summer as a result of a brutal heatwave.

On Friday, Oct. 23, researchers at Imperial College London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine released data examining the impact of “human-induced climate change” on “heat-related urban mortality” in the region throughout summer 2026.

The study analyzed heat-related deaths in 854 urban areas across 30 western European countries between June and August.

“We estimate 50,391 heat-related excess deaths across the 854 cities during the summer, with around two thirds of these attributable to anthropogenic climate change. These results highlight the threat from human-caused warming and the need for rapid emissions reductions alongside preparation and adaptation measures,” the study found.

Researchers said the heatwave began in late May and lasted until the end of August, with Europe believed to be “the fastest-warming continent.”

Human activity is partially to blame for the extreme heat, primarily because of the burning of fossil fuels, per the report.

The highest rate of deaths associated with soaring temperatures was in individuals who were 85 years or older — but it wasn’t just senior citizens who were affected.

French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu previously said that four dozen people, most of them young, died in France amid the heat, starting on June 18, according to Reuters and Agence France-Presse (AFP).

At one point during the summer, officials in France restricted the sale of alcohol after there were approximately 200 deaths and increased hospitalizations across Paris.

Additionally, by late June, at least 55 people in the country died by drowning as they attempted to escape the heat by swimming in ponds, lakes and rivers, Marina Ferrari, Minister of Sports, Youth and Community Life, said, per CBS News/AFP.

More than 200 people died in Spain, The Washington Post reported, adding that nearly all of those deaths were believed to be people 65 years old or older.

The U.K., Germany, Sweden, Italy and Belgium also faced extreme heat over the summer.

“I think we can be quite confident in stating that the summer of 2026 is likely to have been the worst on record for heat-related mortality across much of Europe,” Clair Barnes, one of the study’s authors, said Friday, per CNN.

“We’re well off-track to limit the worst consequences of climate change, and governments need to realize that without faster action and coordination, things will only get worse,” Barnes added.

Bernie Taupin and Elton John have no interest in selling their music catalog.

Lyricist Taupin, 76, and songwriter John, 79, have worked together since 1967, writing major hits such as “Your Song,” “Tiny Dancer” and “Bennie and the Jets.” While speaking with Billboard in an interview published on Thursday, Oct. 22, Taupin revealed why he doesn’t want to sell the rights to their music.

“I don’t think there’s anything right now that could make me say yes,” he said. “I got in trouble the other day for saying I don’t need the money — which doesn’t mean that I’ve got a lot of money, it just means I live very frugally. So, what am I going to do with it?”

The English star — whose new solo album The Sea Has No Mercy is out Oct. 23 — added that some artists have regretted selling their catalogs.

“I know the fact that so many people who have sold their catalogs aren’t happy about it now,” he said.

Back in July, Taupin made similar comments to Rolling Stone. When asked if he and John have felt tempted to sell the publishing rights to their work, he said, “Nothing right now. Not really interested. No point. Why would I?”

The musician continued, “We don’t need the money. We both have offspring, and why don’t we leave it up to them?”

He said their opinion on the subject could always change, but noted, “I mean, it’s clichéd, but it is a bit like selling your children, isn’t it?”

Taupin was also asked by Billboard to share a favorite lyric he has written.

“To give you one is impossible,” he said, before sharing a line from “I Feel Like a Bullet (In the Gun of Robert Ford),” featured on John’s 1975 album Rock of the Westies.

“I woke up this morning and there was a lyric in my head — and I’m not saying it’s my best — ‘I feel like a bullet in the gun of Robert Ford/ I’m low as a paid assassin is/ You know I’m cold as a hired sword.’ And I went, ‘You know what? That’s a pretty good lyric.’ Is it the best I ever wrote? No. I think some of the best lyrics I’ve ever written are on this album,” said the lyricist.

Taupin’s upcoming album is his first in nearly 40 years, following 1987’s Tribe. It was inspired by his 2023 memoir Scattershot: Life, Music, Elton, and Me, and features Brandi Carlile and Lee Ann Womack.

To celebrate the release, the star will make his Grand Ole Opry debut on Nov. 7.

Last month, Taupin revealed the secret to his longtime collaboration with John in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

“We grew up loving all kinds of music, all forms of music, all genres. And so I think that’s what’s connected us, and also the fact that we don’t live in each other’s pockets,” he said. “You know, we live very different lives. We’re very different people, but we are connected through music and our love of it and love of working together.”

The Sea Has No Mercy comes out on Friday, Oct. 23.

A new state park is currently in the works in Texas — but it will take at least one more year to come to fruition.

In a press release shared by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation (TPWF) earlier this month, the non-profit organization announced it had invested over $10 million to acquire a 650-acre property located on Lake Palestine, a 25,560-acre body of water located south of the city of Tyler.

According to the release, the Henderson County property will be transformed into a “future Texas state park,” and is “one of the largest contiguous landholdings with frontage on the lake.” The TPWF, which plans to make additional investments in the property, officially secured the land on Thursday, Oct. 1.

The foundation has been working alongside the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), which first “identified the property as a potential future state park site in 2025,” per the release.

While the TPWF stepped in to lead the acquisition, the property can’t become a state park until the TPWD is able to acquire it. The transfer of the land between the non-profit and the state agency won’t occur until late 2027, when “additional funding from the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund becomes available,” the release states.

However, the TPWF holding the property in the meantime is a crucial step in preserving the land and eventually turning it into a state park.

“The acquisition protects one of the last large blocks of habitat in this part of East Texas and will ultimately expand public access to Lake Palestine,” per the release.

Since 1940, the land — which includes pine forests, ponds and pecan orchards — had belonged to the Pollard family as part of their longtime Texas Pecan Nursery operation. Sam Pollard, president of Texas Pecan Nursery, has fond memories working, hunting and fishing on the land, which his own children and grandchildren have also gotten to enjoy over the years.

But Pollard views the sale as good news, as others will soon be able to enjoy the property he’s cherished so much: “This land is part of my soul. It means a lot to me that we can leave a legacy for people to enjoy,” he said, per the release.

Once the park opens, visitors will be able to soak in the scenic views of the lake and pecan orchard, as well as enjoy the site’s wildlife, which includes “white-tailed deer, bobcats, waterfowl and a variety of woodland and water-dependent birds.”

According to the release, the TPWD plans to open the future park in stages, “beginning with guided access, followed by day use and eventually full day and overnight access.” The department will also consider input from the public about other options and amenities for the park.

The TPWD already plans to develop hiking and biking trails, as well as campsites, “day-use areas” and access to the lake.

Over a decade ago, Amanda Seyfried moved to Upstate New York and transformed her historic property into an animal sanctuary. Since then, she’s shared bits of her country life, including how running the farm keeps her “focused on what’s important.”

Earlier this year, the You Can See Everything actress, 40, opened up about her “dream” property during an interview with Vogue. At the time, she revealed the property where she cares for a variety of different animals — including horses, chickens, cats, goats, donkeys, ducks and dogs — is registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

“When I say it’s a rescue, it’s fully a rescue — it’s my dream,” she told the outlet in January. While she noted that a caretaker does help her run the place, Seyfried herself gets her hands dirty in order to make sure the farm is running smoothly.

The Mean Girls alum offered a look at her daily chores on the farm during a mini tour of the property for CBS Sunday Morning in November 2025.

At her Upstate New York abode, her days begin by feeding her goats and horses, including her 38-year-old pony Cliff, all of whom live on the property. While it’s hard work, especially during the colder months, Seyfried explained that the responsibility keeps her grounded.

“I love it because nothing else matters. Because they need to get fed. It’s a responsibility that keeps me focused on what’s important,” she said, before getting into why she prefers country life over L.A.

“Hollywood is very tricky and it’s got a lot of personalities, and there are a lot of people that are working in a way that doesn’t necessarily make it feel like a safe place. This is exactly what I’ve always wanted,” said Seyfried, who grew up in Allentown, Penn.

In a Wall Street Journal “House Call” feature published in March 2025, the star shared more details about her serene home, noting that she first moved there in 2013 with her then-husband Thomas Sadoski. The exes — who share daughter Nina, 9, and son Thomas, 6 — announced their split in September after nine years of marriage.

Seyfried told WSJ that when she first saw the home, she “fell in love with the main house’s rustic stonework and the trellis between the house and stand-alone garage.”

She added, “The house was small so we built onto it to add a kitchen. We use the barns as a sanctuary for rescued horses, ducks, chickens, peacocks, goats and other animals.”

Speaking to Forbes in 2024, the actress elaborated on why farm life is the best type of lifestyle for her.

“I moved Upstate long before I had a family. Staying here was the best decision for privacy, peace and nature,” she explained at the time. “It offers a more balanced life than the city does,” she continued, adding that the move was “essential for my mental health.”

The tranquil location of her farmhouse helps her to tackle “the high-energy of press events and life on-set” when she’s working in show business, she added.

Her latest project is an appearance in the experimental documentary about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, You Can See Everything.

When Dave Franco accepted his win for Sexiest Cat Dad Alive in PEOPLE’s 2025 Readers’ Choice Poll on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in Oct. 2025, he did so with all his heart. He even stood to give his acceptance speech and thank some very special felines in his life.

“I feel like I have been silently campaigning for this my whole life,” Franco began. “I never realized how rare it was for a man to be obsessed with his cats until every journalist brought it up in every interview I’ve ever done. ... I of course have to thank Max and Otis. You guys — as if they’re watching — make me laugh more than anyone on Earth. I gotta give a shout-out to my old cats, Harry and Arturo.”

The band might have played him off as he protested, “This is my moment!” — but that moment was only beginning.

Franco’s reign as the most celebrated cat dad in America has been an eventful one (even making the New York Times in a trend piece called “It’s A Great Time to Be a Guy Who Loves His Cat”), and as we prepare to crown a new Sexy Cat Dad chosen by PEOPLE readers in 2026’s poll, we’re looking back on his reign.

Shortly after his win, Franco told PEOPLE on the Now You See Me: Now You Don’t red carpet that he had “peaked” with the new title.

“I’m very proud. I’m an outspoken cat lover,” he said. “What’s wild is how many people bring it up. Shout out to my cats, Max and Otis, at home. I’ve peaked. I’ve peaked. It’s all downhill from here.”

He continued with another faux acceptance speech to celebrate his win, once again thanking his late cats, Arturo and Harry, who were “18 pounders,” he recalled. “I remember when I was single and I would go on dates and I would tell these women that I had 36 cumulative pounds of cat at home, and then I would never see these women again.”

Franco concluded, “I want to thank the movie Flow, for changing the narrative of how cats are portrayed in film. They’re usually the villains. Flow showed that they can be the heroes, which is why it won the Academy Award, because it told the truth.”

Franco expanded on that sentiment in a Sept. 2026 interview with USA Today, saying that he was happy to use his “new platform” as Sexiest Cat Dad to change the narrative that “cats are always vilified in popular culture.” He reiterated that Flow was an Oscar winner because “it told the truth about cats” and joked that when he was around a fellow cat lover, like his groomer Kumi Craig, “you just can’t shut us up. It’s pictures all day, and everyone around is like, ‘Yeah...cute!’ “

He has joked about the ongoing interest in him as a sexy cat dad, saying, “I never realized how rare it was for a man to be obsessed with his cats until every journalist brought it up in every interview I’ve ever done.” Dax Shepard was one such person who had questions about Franco’s feline affinity — and asked on Armchair Expert how he really felt about the Sexiest Cat Dad title.

“It’s all flattery, baby,” he said with a laugh. “What’s not to like? Here’s the thing: I realized a long time ago that being the guy who’s obsessed with cats, especially when I was a single guy obsessed with cats, that was a rarity. I was like, is this not normal for a single guy to have two 18 lb. cats? Having 36 cumulative lbs. of cats also weeded out the dating pool. Not a lot of girls are down with that!”

Of course, Franco isn’t a single cat dad any longer: He and his wife, Alison Brie, share Max and Otis (and Brie has said in the past Franco is instrumental in preventing her from going overboard with pet purchases for the two of them). He told E! in Sept. 2026 that their ideal date night is a simple one: “The truth is, my perfect night these days is just like a full pile with my wife and my cats in bed, and we’re just watching two movies, going to bed by 9:30 p.m.”

With the year winding down (and some fierce competition for the 2026 title), Franco was determined to leave fans with one more major “cat dad” moment — this one a throwback. While back on The Tonight Show to promote his new film Forgotten Island in Sept. 2026, he brought a photo of himself in the ‘90s with spiky hair, puka shell necklace and an adorable kitten by his side. “That’s a vibe, Jimmy, and you know what that vibe is saying?” he said. “PEOPLE magazine’s Sexiest Cat Dad 2025.”

The 14-time Grammy winner combined her signature showgirl style with her game-day outfit to support her husband, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs in the matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 18.

Swift, 36, donned a red Louis Vuitton turtleneck bodysuit and paired it with black bottoms to cheer on the star tight end, 37, in Kansas City, Mo.

Of course, the pop megastar — who married the NFL star in a ceremony on July 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City — had her wedding band on display.

She styled her shoulder-length hair in loose waves and wore bold makeup, including her signature red lip and black winged eyeliner.

Swift further accessorized with a simple gold ring and hoop earrings.

The “Patient Zero” performer seemed in high spirits as she enjoyed the game in a suite with Este Haim, Caitlin Clark and Travis’ mom Donna Kelce. Her brother-in-law Jason Kelce and father-in-law Ed Kelce were also at the game as they made an appearance at a tailgating event.

The outing came just one day after Swift performed at the 2026 Academy Music Gala in Los Angeles, at a ceremony honoring John Carpenter, Colman Domingo and Charlize Theron.

The Chiefs-Chargers matchup marks the “Opalite” singer’s first game back since Week 2.

She was spotted in her star-studded suite at the start of the season, attending Kansas City’s back-to-back victories against the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts, respectively.

While the wins made the matchups exciting, Swift was able to witness Travis break records and make history within the first two games alone.

In Game 1, Travis moved into second place all-time in receiving yards for an NFL tight end during their season opener against the Broncos on Monday, Sept. 14. In Game 2, he set an NFL record for most career yards after catch during a game against the Colts on Sept. 20.

Swift, meanwhile, has been setting records and making history herself. While Kelce helped the Chiefs defeat the Miami Dolphins in Florida on Sept. 27, the pop superstar made history at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles on the same day.

At the ceremony, Swift took home three awards: Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia,” Best Direction for “Opalite” and the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors. Her victories broke her 30-win tie with Beyoncé to become the most-awarded artist in VMAs history.

The three-time Super Bowl winner even celebrated those victories from afar, according to his activity on social media. Travis still enjoyed the VMAs content he was seeing on his social media feed, liking several posts of Swift on Instagram.

He liked a post shared by Good Morning America, which captioned a clip of Swift on the step and repeat: “The queen has arrived! Taylor Swift glides down the #vmas carpet where she’s receiving the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors.”

Two women, who are friends and coworkers at a Florida cancer center, were both diagnosed with breast cancer in January
Karen Grant and Rosa Somsky did not stop working to help others on their cancer journeys, despite facing their own
“There were days when we would see each other in the hallway and high-five each other, because we understood exactly what the other person had gone through that day,” Rosa tells PEOPLE, while Karen adds, “We shared experiences that no one else would be able to understand”

Two women didn’t let their breast cancer diagnoses stop them from continuing to care for their cancer patients, who were also on their own health journeys.

Karen Grant and Rosa Somsky have worked across the hall from each other at AdventHealth Palm Coast’s Freytag Cancer Center in Florida for the past four years. Back in January, Grant, a social worker at the cancer center, and Somsky, a breast care navigator, were both diagnosed with breast cancer.

“There are some things about cancer that are difficult to explain to someone who hasn’t experienced them. Karen and I didn’t have to explain those things to each other,” Somsky, 62, tells PEOPLE. “We could talk about fear, frustration and the things we sometimes didn’t want to share with the people we love because we didn’t want them to worry. We checked on one another, texted, called and compared our experiences.”

“There were days when we would see each other in the hallway and high-five each other, because we understood exactly what the other person had gone through that day,” she continues. “Cancer is not something either of us would ever choose to have in common, but having her beside me made me feel less alone.”

“We shared experiences that no one else would be able to understand,” Grant, 67, adds. “Even though we both work with cancer patients, it’s important to have boundaries and not overshare with our patients, but with each other, we could share our deepest feelings, not needing to filter anything.”

Grant was diagnosed with breast cancer following a May 2025 mammogram. Though it showed no mammographic evidence of cancer, it noted dense breast tissue and recommended considering supplemental screening.

After undergoing a breast MRI that identified a suspicious mass, and a later biopsy that confirmed invasive ductal carcinoma, Grant underwent a lumpectomy, as well as other treatments.

Somsky, meanwhile, received her breast cancer diagnosis after she noticed a mark along her left mastectomy area — almost three decades after she was first diagnosed with the disease. She treated her recurrent invasive ductal carcinoma through surgery and radiation.

“It was surreal. After almost 28 years, breast cancer was part of my history, but I certainly wasn’t expecting it to become part of my present again,” Somsky tells PEOPLE. “Hearing that I had cancer again was devastating.”

During their respective bouts with breast cancer, both Grant and Somsky continued to work.

“It could be difficult at times to be present and not be triggered by my own cancer journey trauma, and I tried to be mindful of self-disclosure when it was for a patient’s benefit and not my benefit,” Grant says.

“I definitely have a better understanding of what patients might be experiencing, and hope I am a better social worker and psychotherapist because of it,” she continues.

As for Somsky? She explains, “Continuing to work was extremely important to me. I have spent my career as a nurse helping patients, and as a breast care navigator, I walk alongside women during some of the most frightening moments of their lives.”

“Going through cancer myself while continuing to navigate other women was emotional at times. There were moments when a patient’s story felt very close to my own. But the experience has also made me understand my patients on a much deeper level,” she adds.

A 2-year-old girl in Massachusetts died after being hit by a vehicle driven by her mother’s boyfriend, according to police.

The Chelsea Police Department said officers responded to the area of 156 Bellingham St. on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 14, following a report of the collision.

“Upon arrival, officers located a two year old female child suffering from serious injuries,” the department said in a news release. “Chelsea Police officers, alongside the Chelsea Fire Department and emergency medical personnel, provided emergency medical aid at the scene.”

The girl, who has not been identified by police, was taken to a hospital in Everett, where she was later pronounced dead.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police said that the collision occurred shortly after the mother and child were dropped off in front of their Bellingham Street residence —and that the driver is the mom’s boyfriend.

The driver, who has also not been named, was interviewed by detectives from the Chelsea Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police and was later released.

“Based on preliminary witness statements and evidence gathered during the ongoing investigation, this incident appears to be a tragic accident,” police said, adding that “investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the event.”

PEOPLE contacted the Chelsea Police Department on Friday, Oct. 16, but did not receive an immediate reply.

“This is a tragic incident involving the death of a very young child,” Chelsea Police Chief Keith E. Houghton said in a press statement. “On behalf of the Chelsea Police Department, I extend our deepest condolences to the child’s family and loved ones. Our officers and emergency responders provided immediate assistance at the scene and did everything possible to help save the young child.”

“Our thoughts are with her family during this unimaginable loss, and we ask the community to respect their privacy during this extremely difficult time,” Houghton continued.

Chelsea Public Schools shared a message on Thursday, Oct. 15, extending their condolences to the child’s family, NBC affiliate WBTS reported.

“We hold this family in our hearts during this incredibly difficult time,” the district wrote, “and keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”

Before killing eight people in an Erie, Pa., massacre, Matthew Stone Sr. spent years controlling and isolating his wife, children and grandchildren, according to relatives who described the family’s increasingly troubling living conditions to police.

The nine victims of the Friday, Oct. 9 shooting have been identified as the shooter’s wife, Michelle Stone, 44; her daughter Angelina Stone, 24, and sons Jonathan Stone, 19 and Matthew Stone, 21; grandchildren one-year-old Amari’anna Stone and 5-year-old Isiah Hudges; Michelle’s sister 37-year-old Lora Roberts and 51-year-old Twila Tanner and Angelina’s unborn baby Kyrie Stone.

Matthew Stone Sr., 45, turned the gun on himself after killing the family.

Relatives described years of abuse and isolation allegedly inflicted by Matthew Sr. on his wife and children, Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah said at a press briefing on Thursday, Oct. 15.

“Family members describe a household in which Matthew Stone Sr. exercised significant control of his wife Michelle, their children and grandchildren,” Lorah said, adding that he controlled the family’s finances.

“[He] restricted when family members could leave the residence and spend time with relatives,” he said. Family members told police that after Michelle became pregnant with her first child, Matthew Sr. became increasingly controlling.

Over time, Michelle stopped having contact with friends and had limited contact with extended family. Domestic charges against Matthew Sr. were dropped after Michelle changed her statement at a preliminary hearing, Lorah said.

Investigators also found the Stones’ home in an “extremely filthy” state, Lorah said, including “numerous 2-liter bottles filled with urine” throughout the house.

The home’s shower, toilet and kitchen sinks appeared to be unusable, despite the property having access to running water. The household also had an outstanding water bill of approximately $1,900.

Angelina, who was due to give birth just three days after the massacre, had reportedly told others she was waiting to leave her father after giving birth, Lorah said. She had also claimed her father had abused her brothers.

The investigation began after police responded to a report of a shooting at the residence, and found two women deceased outside the house. Witnesses said the women had “arrived at the residence, appeared distressed, and sought help from neighbors,” Erie police previously said.

Lorah said on Thursday that fewer than 30 minutes before police responded to the residence, Angelina had called Roberts on Facebook video and Roberts rushed to the residence. Roberts told a family member that Angelina needed help.

Roberts and Tanner came to the residence and, police believe, were shot after Matthew Sr. killed his family.

Police entered the residence at 7:12 p.m., and found the bodies across the house.

While the Associated Press previously cited a coroner’s report that Angelina’s due date was Monday, family members brought stuffed animals, candles and balloons to a memorial for baby Kyrie on Wednesday, which they said was his projected due date, You Erie reported.

At the vigil, Tanner’s daughter told the outlet her mother was “a sweet woman. Caring. She helped anybody.”

“She wanted to go help a family friend, and she lost her life in the middle of trying to help somebody else that she loved and cared about,” Aniecia Al-Amiri said.

Former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star Collin Gosselin is opening up about the last time he and his sextuplet siblings all saw each other seven years ago.

In his new memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, Collin, 22, remembered meeting up with siblings Leah, Alexis, Joel and Aaden at the Works, an amusement center in Wyomissing, Pa., for an hour-long reunion in spring 2019 that had been mandated by the court when their dad, Jon Gosselin, got custody of him and his sister Hannah the December prior. At the time, Leah, Alexis, Joel and Aaden, as well as twins Mady and Cara were still living with mom Kate Gosselin, who split from Jon in 2009.

Collin said he’d been hesitant to meet up with his siblings — who all rose to fame on the family’s reality show, which premiered in 2007 — as “we’d been growing up in completely different worlds. They were living under my mom’s thumb, and I knew exactly what that meant — sheltered, and shaped by her version of things. Whatever they believed about me, I knew it wasn’t coming from their own experience. It was coming from what they’d been told. And I had a feeling none of it was positive.”

Prior to the reunion, Collin hadn’t seen any of his siblings except for Hannah since he was 11, when he said Kate had him hospitalized and sent to live at an institution after he attempted to run away from her home. Collin claimed Kate physically and emotionally abused him for years and kept him locked in a basement bedroom.

When he first saw his siblings at the Works, Collin said he was surprised to see how much they all had changed since the last time they’d seen each other.

“Leah and Alexis each carried purses, and I could tell they had lip gloss on,” he said. “Joel’s face was filled out like a teenager’s, not a kid’s. Aaden’s hair was longer than last time. It was hard to wrap my head around the fact they’d kept moving forward without me.”

He said that after standing there “awkwardly for God knows how long,” he and Hannah made the first move and walked into the arcade. After playing some games, Collin bought lemonades for his siblings with the money Jon gave him.

“As they cracked opened the lemonade bottles, our chatter started opening up,” he said. “We were quicker to laugh, unselfconscious in our oohs and ahhs, watching each other win and lose various games. Maybe there was still a small connection left that could grow.”

Since Collin said he and Hannah had gotten more money from Jon, 49, than the other kids had gotten from Kate, 51, he started to add some of his own money to their cards.

“I started to hope that with every swipe of my debit card, they’d like me a little more,” he said. “And then I ran out of money.”

They tried to visit Ballocity, an area of the amusement center he said had “slides, a ball pit and tunnels with nets that caught you when you fell,” but were disappointed when they saw a sign saying only kids 12 and under were allowed in.

“Each of them had blossomed and grown up,” Collin said. “They weren’t the chaotic, silly, innocent kids with kitchen-shears haircuts and OshKosh overalls I left three years earlier, and neither was I. We had grown up. Separately.”

Collin realized they’d missed out on years they could’ve spent playing at the center “laughing, climbing, falling, getting back up.”

“I’d been medicated, restrained, kept in an enclosure behind locked doors and security glass,” he said, referencing both his basement bedroom at Kate’s home, as well as the first institution he was sent to, Fairmount Behavioral Health System. “They’d become America’s sweethearts, grown up in front of an audience, navigating adolescence and some weird version of fame while always trying to look like the perfect family. We weren’t those kids anymore. Not together, at least.”

When the hour was up, Collin said the siblings all exchanged “fast and casual” goodbyes with “side-hugs and murmured see you laters.” When Alexis, Aaden, Leah and Joel headed toward the exit, he said he stayed behind out of fear of potentially seeing Kate outside.

“The possibility of seeing her again, even just for a second, was more than I could handle,” he said. “I pictured her looking at me, disgusted, reminding me that I’d broken our family. I imagined her telling everyone that everything that was so hard about today was my fault, and no one else’s.”

Collin said he hasn’t seen Alexis, Aaden, Leah and Joel “since” that visit but that he still cares for them and Mady and Cara.

“No matter what’s happened or what was said, no matter how things look from the outside — I love you,” he said. “I always have and always will.”

While Kate has not responded to specific claims in Collin’s memoir, she said in a 2023 Instagram statement that “all measures that were taken in our home were at the explicit recommendation of [Collin’s] pediatric psychiatrist and/or his team of specialists and were put into place to safeguard every member of our family, our friends as well as our family pets.”

In 2024, Kate’s attorney, Richard Puleo, told The Sun that he didn’t believe that Kate had done anything to “intentionally harm” her son and that “she did what she did to protect herself and her family” from what he called “troubled behavior.”

The day after the memoir was published, Kate reacted through a TikTok comment. A video she shared on Oct. 10 about her dog began filling with comments on Oct. 13.

One commenter shared her support of Kate in the comments of the post saying, “It should be illegal to defame someone that way, but I just wanted to say you are doing a great job keeping your head up through all of this. “We love you!” Kate responded: “Thank you so much. I know rational logical ppl or anyone who has dealt with mental illness understands what’s going on here :).”

Elsewhere under the comment thread, Kate liked a message from a user who claimed “he” would “regret all of this someday” and alleged that he’d been “encouraged and enabled by other dysfunctional and mentally ill people.” They wrote that they were “sorry that you have to relive this over and over” and called the situation “gross.”
Kate claimed in the thread: “Exactly! I had nothing to do with it, except for consent because it was medically necessary.”

PEOPLE has reached out to Puleo and Fairmount for comment.

Collin’s memoir included a statement from Fairmount that said they do not comment on specific patients and that “at Fairmount Behavioral Health System, every day our staff strives to maintain a total therapeutic environment through individualized treatment for each patient.”

Scarlett Johansson is detailing how well she and Sam Rockwell work together ahead of the release of their new animated movie.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, Johansson, 41, caught up with PEOPLE at the London Film Festival premiere of Ray Gunn, a new Netflix animated movie from filmmaker Brad Bird (The Incredibles) that is also Johansson and Rockwell’s third time acting together. The new movie sees Rockwell, 57, voice a private investigator named Raymond Gunn in an alternative reality stylized like the 1930s. Rockwell’s title character “is drawn into a case involving aliens, murder and a multimedia star named Venus Nova,” whom Johansson voices, per an official logline.

“Oh, I love Sam. I mean, he’s one of my favorite actors, period,” Johansson says on the red carpet. “And so when I get to work with him, it brings me a lot of happiness because I just get to work opposite somebody that I humongously admire, and I’ve known him for a long time, and I feel like he could do anything.”

Rockwell and Johansson previously costarred in 2010’s Iron Man 2 — Rockwell played the villain to Robert Downey Jr. and Johansson’s Marvel heroes — and in 2019’s World War II-themed comedy Jojo Rabbit. “I think we have great chemistry because we’re friends, and you both admire one another. So it’s a pleasure,” Johansson says. “We’ve been all over, like, decades, have done all different kinds of stuff together. So I love that camaraderie.”

Ray Gunn also features the voices of Tom Waits, Bobby Cannavale, Michelle Rodriguez, Alan Tudyk, Patton Oswalt and more. At the movie’s London premiere, Johansson notes that voice-only performances are “really a challenging medium” for her and her costars due to the limitations placed on their performances.

“You don’t have, obviously, the rest of your physical body,” she says. “When we were together and working through stuff, I think you get something out of the performance that you don’t necessarily get when either one of us is just laying down the vocal without the other person there because you get the chemistry and it’s messy and stuff like that.”

“And I think for Brad, it’s fun,” she continues. “It’s a fun challenge because he’s animating something that’s messy a little bit. It’s not perfect, and he loves that.”

Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw have a happy family of nine.

The director welcomed his first child, son Max, with then-wife Amy Irving in 1985. Capshaw and her first husband Robert had their daughter, Grey’s Anatomy actress Jessica Capshaw, in 1976. Before her marriage to Spielberg, Kate adopted son Theo, who was born in 1988. After the couple tied the knot on Oct. 12, 1991, Spielberg also adopted Theo. Together, the couple went on to have four more children: Sasha, born in 1990; Sawyer, born in 1992; Mikaela, born in 1996; and Destry, born in 1996.

Initially, the Oscar winner could not see fatherhood fitting into his life — until he directed E.T. in 1982.

“It was not a kind of equation that made sense for me as I went from movie to movie to movie, script to script,” he told Variety at the film’s 40th anniversary celebration. “It never occurred to me till halfway through E.T.: I was a parent on that film. ... I started thinking, ‘Well, maybe this could be my real life someday.’ It was the first time that it occurred to me that maybe I could be a dad.”

He added, “I have seven kids and six grandchildren, so E.T. worked for me very well.”

Sandra Birchmore dreamed of being a police officer, and at the age of 13 she enrolled in the Stoughton Police Explorer’s Program.

There she met Matthew Farwell, an officer with the Stoughton Police Department who, after grooming Birchmore for a few years, began raping her when she was just 15, according to a copy of an affidavit for detention obtained by PEOPLE.

Matthew is now charged with killing Birchmore and testimony in his trial will begin on Oct. 13 when prosecutors begin calling witnesses to the stand.

Among the names on that witness list is Matthew’s twin brother William Farwell — who previously admitted to having a sexual relationship with Birchmore.

Matthew “used his authority and access to groom, sexually exploit, and ultimately sexually abuse then-15-year-old Birchmore” then “continued this sexual abuse after Birchmore became an adult,” according to the affidavit.

This behavior lasted until prosecutors say Matthew ended his relationship with Birchmore on Feb. 1, 2021.

That is the day he arrived at Birchmore’s home in a mask, strangled his pregnant mistress and then staged the scene to look like a suicide, prosecutors say.

His plan was successful at first, with law enforcement and the medical examiner determining that there were no signs of foul play.

Then, in September 2024, federal officials declared Birchmore’s death to be a homicide and arrested Matthew.

Matthew began raping Birchmore just one month before his wedding, prosecutors have said, and is accused of killing her just hours before his wife gave birth to their third child.

In 2025, testing revealed that he was not in fact the father of the unborn child he is now accused of killing.

Prior to those federal charges being filed, Birchmore’s aunt also filed a wrongful death lawsuit claiming that three instructors who were involved in the Stoughton Police Explorer’s Program had inappropriate sexual relationships with her niece, who was orphaned at 18 following the death of her chronically ill single mother.

In addition to Matthew, the suit also accused his twin brother William of engaging in a sexual relationship with Birchmore after she had reached the age of consent.

William, who was also a police officer, would eventually admit to having a sexual relationship with Birchmore for two years.

And now, he may be testifying against his brother at his trial.

Both William and Matthew’s wife Angela are among the potential witnesses named in a court filing over the weekend, though it is unclear if either is cooperating with the prosecution.

Kim Kardashian stepped out in style as she showed her support for her boyfriend, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, at the F1 Singapore Grand Prix.

The Skims founder, 45, supported her Ferrari driver boyfriend, 41, during the weekend-long festivities at Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore.

As she made her way through the paddock on Sunday, Oct. 11 — chatting with stars including Romeo Beckham, Dwayne Wade and Eileen Gu — Kardashian could be seen wearing a floor-length satin dress, featuring a baby pink fabric printed with a blue, pink and red floral pattern.

The dress also featured short capped sleeves, a collar and a plunging neckline. Kardashian topped off the look by styling her hair in a simple half-up style with rosy-cheeked makeup and strappy white heels.

Kardashian has been a fixture at the event in Singapore this weekend. On Saturday, Oct. 10, she was photographed arriving in a skintight monochromatic dress from designer Alaïa, according to Harper’s Bazaar. That look featured a high-neck halter leotard and a built-in long sheer skirt, all in a shade of light pink.

Although the Ferrari team was on course to finish second and third with Charles Leclerc and Hamilton during Sunday’s race, the seven-time champion ended in sixth place after opting out of a pit stop during the the closing laps, per ESPN.

“Today wasn’t the result we were looking for and it was on me,” Hamilton said in a statement shared by Ferrari after the race. “At a track that’s difficult to overtake, you need to try something different and I chose to start on a new medium tyre, to go long and try to make a one-stop work. Unfortunately the medium didn’t perform as well as the soft.”

The couple was first spotted together during a “romantic meetup” in Paris in February. In the months since, they have been seen supporting one another publicly, including a set visit from Hamilton while Kardashian filmed All’s Fair and the reality star attending the F1 Monaco Grand Prix in June.

Kardashian and Hamilton have since shared glimpses of their travels online. In August, the mom of four took to Instagram to share intimate glimpse at a tropical vacation with her boyfriend and several family members.

“Somewhere over the rainbow 🌈,” Kardashian wrote in an Instagram post on Aug. 17, alongside photos of the couple walking down a tropical beach, posing together for a mirror selfie, taking a snap with her sister Khloé Kardashian, who joined the couple along with her two kids, daughter True, 8, and Tatum, 4, on the trip.

In September, Kardashian also shared a recap of her and Hamilton’s trip to Europe — which included a romantic kiss in Paris under the Eiffel Tower.

“🇪🇸 🇮🇹 🇫🇷 🇬🇧 ✨,” she captioned an Instagram carousel, documenting her travels in Spain, Italy, France and the United Kingdom.

A source told PEOPLE in June that the SKIMS founder bringing Hamilton around her children shows just “how much she trusts him.”

“Kim’s very selective when it comes to the people she allows around her kids,” the source added. “She’s very protective of them and doesn’t take new introductions lightly.”

Love, 85, is “facing serious health challenges,” the Full House alum, 63, said in a heartfelt tribute to the Beach Boys founding member ahead of their joint performance in Tennessee on Sunday, Oct. 11. The health update, which Stamos shared jointly with Love on Instagram, comes amid fan concern for the musician’s health after footage of him performing while seated went viral on social media.

“I’m boarding a plane to Nashville to play with the Beach Boys at the Ryman Auditorium, struggling to put my feelings into words,” Stamos wrote alongside photos of himself and Love. “My beloved friend, father figure, musical hero and mentor, Mike Love, is facing serious health challenges. We hope he’ll be doing what he loves for years to come, but we don’t know what the future holds. We have tonight.”

“Mike is a fighter. Despite doctors, family and friends urging him to focus on his health, he insists on being on stage,” Stamos continued. “He says he needs his band, the audience, his friends and drummer surrounding him to lift him up.”

Stamos did not share what health struggles Love is facing. PEOPLE has reached out to a rep for Love for additional comment.

The Oct. 11 Nashville stop is part of the Beach Boys’ tour celebrating the 60th anniversary of their album Pet Sounds. Stamos — who has been performing various shows with the Beach Boys since 1985 — has appeared during several of the shows as a special guest.

“I’ve played with Mike for 41 years. I never imagined how deeply it would affect me to see someone larger than life face something so human and fragile,” he wrote in his Sunday post. “The Mike Love we see tonight may not be exactly the Mike we’ve always known. But he’s still every bit the Mike we love.”

Stamos went on to say that through “more than 7,000 concerts,” Love has “brought joy” to multiple generations. “What he’s given me personally is immeasurable,” Stamos said, citing the Beach Boys founding member’s relationship with his 8-year-old son, Billy, and the fact that Love got ordained to officiate his 2018 wedding to wife Caitlin McHugh.

“Forty-one years of stages, airplanes, hotel rooms, laughter and moments nobody else saw. He married Caitlin and me. He’s shared experiences with my family, and now my son,” Stamos wrote. “Mike didn’t just give me a place in his band. He gave me a place in his life.”

“He taught me how to entertain, hold a stage, connect with an audience and make people feel something. I carry those lessons everywhere. He’s made me a better musician, entertainer and man,” the Full House star continued. “This life with Mike and the Beach Boys has become part of my identity. I’ve felt entrusted with being a steward of this extraordinary music, carrying it to new generations.”

Stamos said in his post that he wants to be “completely present” at the Beach Boys’ Oct. 11 show in Nashville.

“I want to be completely present. Hear every harmony, familiar joke and cheer. Feel that first chord hit and watch age, illness and time disappear. Just a bunch of guys making music together,” he wrote.

“Maybe the hardest part of loving someone is becoming so accustomed to the miracle of having them there that you forget it’s a miracle at all,” Stamos wrote. “Tonight, I won’t forget.”

For Devon Sawa, Casper’s legacy has lasted far longer than he expected after playing the human version of the friendly ghost in the 1995 family fantasy.

The brief appearance opposite Christina Ricci became one of the film’s most remembered moments, with Sawa’s “Can I keep you?” line becoming a lasting piece of ’90s pop culture. For years, however, the attention surrounding the role was something Sawa struggled to embrace, as fans and interviewers repeatedly returned to the same movie that helped launch his career.

Now, decades later, the 48-year-old actor says he has made “peace” with the fact that Casper will always be part of his story.

“Doesn’t matter what I do nowadays. It doesn’t matter how cool the project is, I will always have to say, ‘Can I keep you?’ to somebody at some point,” Sawa tells PEOPLE exclusively. “There will always be Casper stuff.”

Released in 1995, Casper followed Ricci’s Kat Harvey as she moved into a haunted mansion with her father, played by Bill Pullman, and befriended the ghostly Casper. Sawa appears as Casper’s human form during the film’s memorable final sequence, a role that helped turn the young actor into a recognizable teen star.

The movie became a major commercial success, earning nearly $291 million worldwide, and its influence has continued through generations, including a 2025 theatrical re-release for its 30th anniversary.

That level of recognition, however, also meant Sawa was often asked about the same performance, even as he moved into other projects. Looking back on that period, he acknowledges how strongly he once wanted to separate himself from the character and the attention surrounding it.

“There was a time in my life I was like, ‘I don’t wanna talk about Casper. How dare you? I’m a thespian,’ you know?” Sawa admits. “But… I gotta embrace it. It’s why I’m here. It’s what got me here.”

Now Sawa is stepping into another supernatural world with Coven Academy, a Disney series set at a magical boarding school in New Orleans. He plays Mr. Cole, a warlock professor, alongside Tiffani Thiessen, Malina Pauli Weissman, Malachi Barton, Jordan Leftwich, Ora Duplass and Louis Thresher.

The new role gives Sawa another chance to connect with a younger audience, and he hopes his character can leave the kind of lasting impression that Casper did.

“I think [Coven Academy] is going to be one of those [shows] that hopefully in 20 years, people will be like, ‘Oh, Mr. Cole.’ And I won’t be able to shake that either,” Sawa tells PEOPLE.

Coven Academy is now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.

In his conversation with the Radiohead rocker for Rolling Stone, Styles reflected on how an “outgoing” girlfriend shifted his perspective on being seen in public.

The topic came up as the two reflected on their first meeting. Yorke said he was so “impressed” that Styles was without security at the time and wondered whether it was by choice.

“I think in the early days, when I was in the band [One Direction], so much of the hotel experience felt very locked-in. When I’d be home, it felt like, ‘Oh, it’s not safe for me to be out,’ ” he recalled.

‘Then I had a girlfriend who was very outgoing, and she was coming to London and I was like, ‘Oh, if we just sit in my house for three days, she’s gonna think I’m nuts.’ ” he said. “So we walked everywhere, and it was this realization for me: ‘Oh, it’s fine to be outside.’ It kind of broke that thing.”

Styles concluded, “Now, it’s changed my life in such a big way, because it’s how you stay connected to the world.”

While the “As It Was” hitmaker didn’t reveal who gave him that new perspective, his dating history includes Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner, Camille Rowe, and Olivia Wilde.

In April 2026, a source told PEOPLE that Styles and Zoë Kravitz were engaged after dating rumors first surfaced in August 2025.

New Britney Spears music is here for the first time in three years.

On Friday, Oct. 9, the “Toxic” pop legend, 44, unleashed “She’ll Never Be Me” — a song originally recorded for her self-titled third album, 2001’s Britney. Spears and her team pulled the song from her vault, giving fans a chance to hear it officially ahead of the release of Britney (25th Anniversary Edition).

Spears co-wrote the song with a trio of collaborators, including then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake. They were joined by Bradley Daymond and Alex Greggs with Riprock ‘n’ Alex G tackling production.

“You know I’m one of a kind,” she sings on the self-assured anthem, which sees her calling out an ex for moving on with her doppelgänger. “There’ll never be another me / Can’t get you out of my mind / You’re lost in your own fantasy / And when you look in my eyes / Is it hard for you to realize / She’ll never be me?”

“She’ll Never Be Me” is the first of five songs that Spears is releasing for the first time on the deluxe reissue of Britney. The track list also includes “Am I a Sinner,” “When I Say So” and “My Big Secret.” Rounding out the new music is a studio recording of “Right Now (Taste The Victory)” from a 2002 Pepsi commercial.

Following the breakout success of ...Baby One More Time and Oops!... I Did It Again, Britney introduced a more mature version of the Princess of Pop.

She offered a first taste of the project by premiering its lead single — “I’m a Slave 4 U” — with a live performance at the 2001 MTV VMAs, where she famously danced with a large python wrapped around her shoulders while joined by a horde of dancers in a jungle setting.

The lead single peaked at No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was followed by “Overprotected,” “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,” a cover of Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” and the Pharrell Williams-assisted “Boys.” Her one other collaboration with Timberlake — “What It’s Like to Be Me” — closed out the original album.

Spears supported the album by embarking on her Dream Within a Dream Tour. While on it, she filmed Britney Spears Live from Las Vegas, a concert film originally released on HBO and recorded at MGM Grand Garden Arena.

While recorded in 2001, “She’ll Never Be Me” is the first new song Spears has released since she joined forces with will.i.am on 2023’s “Mind Your Business.” The musical pair previously worked together on 2012’s “Scream & Shout,” which peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100.

Prior to that, the hitmaker collaborated with Elton John on “Hold Me Closer.” Released in 2022, it’s her most recent song to chart on the Hot 100, peaking at No. 6. The duet combined John’s previous songs “Tiny Dancer” and “The One,” repackaging them over a refreshed production and featuring Spears’ vocals.

A Michigan woman knew exactly what she wanted — and hit the jackpot.

A 67-year-old woman from Macomb County, Mich., who chose to remain anonymous, won a $1 million prize playing the 50X instant game — and it was all thanks to her instincts, according to the Michigan Lottery officials.

“My husband and I were at the store and he asked if I wanted to get some lottery tickets while we were there, but I said no because there was a certain party store I wanted to get tickets at,” the woman said in a statement.

She kept to that promise and went to the store — Diamond Dot Market in Clinton Township — the next day, where she bought a few 50X tickets. She then checked to make sure that there were still top prizes up for grabs on the Michigan Lottery website.

“I told my husband there were still two $1 million prizes left, and he said he doubted they were still out there,” she recalled.

But she soon proved him wrong when she scratched one of her tickets and discovered she had in fact won the massive prize.

“When I scratched the ticket and saw the $1 million win, I slid it over to him and said, ‘I told you they were out there!,’ ” she recalled. “We both just sat there in silence for a while because we were stunned. Once it sunk in, we called a few family members to tell them the good news!”

The woman visited Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize, which she chose to receive as a one-time lump sum payment.

She took home about $693,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount, according to the Michigan Lottery.

The 67-year-old woman said she plans to enjoy some of her winnings with a new truck and a vacation while also giving back to her family by paying off her grandchild’s student loans.

Chicago Med is scrubbing back in.

The hit medical drama’s season 12 premiere on Wednesday, Oct. 7, precedes fellow One Chicago series Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. — a winning franchise trio that helped make NBC the most-watched entertainment network on Wednesday nights during the 2025-26 season.

Though the procedural has been airing for over a decade, showrunner Allen MacDonald promised in an interview with Parade that the drama isn’t slowing down.

“There will be conflict, there will be medical stories, there will be unrequited love,” he teased in October 2026 of the upcoming installment. “I just think that dramatically we’re going to push even harder next year.”

So, when exactly will the drama begin? Here’s everything to know about the Chicago Med season 12 release schedule.

When does Chicago Med season 12 premiere?

NBC will debut the 12th season of Chicago Med on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

It will pick up three months after the season 11 finale, which saw Hannah (Jessy Schram) and Archer (Steven Weber) welcome a baby daughter. MacDonald told TV Line in September 2026 that the potential couple are living together and “still very much trying to figure out” their dynamic.

Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) is also dealing with the fallout of being threatened with termination. But those personal troubles will have to take a back seat in the premiere, titled “Shots Fired,” when the staff at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center must treat an influx of patients from a shooting at a wedding.

“That was one of the conceptions for the episode — that we wouldn’t actually go outside the ED,” the showrunner told Give Me My Remote in August 2026. “There are no exteriors. It’s all in the hospital.”

MacDonald also confirmed that Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Gabrielle Carteris will make an appearance in the first episode. The actress teased her involvement on Chicago Med back in August 2026.

How many episodes are in Chicago Med season 12?

NBC has not yet announced how many episodes will make up Chicago Med season 12.

The previous season ran for 21 episodes, one fewer than the 22 episodes that made up season 10.

According to Deadline, the shortened order came amid budget negotiations across the One Chicago franchise, which also resulted in 21-episode seasons for Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. in 2025.

Long seasons are nothing new for Chicago Med, which has typically produced between 20 and 22 episodes per season, aside from years disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes.

Weber previously told CinemaBlend that the schedule means the cast has to move quickly, while also mastering the show’s complex medical terminology.

“By the time they’re fun to play, we’ve already wrapped the scene and finished it because we’re trying to learn these unpronounceable lines and terminology,” the actor said in November 2024. “Our time is spent doing that and trying to make believe that we’re in Gaffney, in this fictional hospital, playing these fictional characters.”

Dominic Cooper and Amanda Seyfried had a mini Mamma Mia! reunion while attending the Hamptons International Film Festival over the weekend.

Cooper, 48, and Seyfried, 40, costarred in the hit 2008 movie musical and its 2018 sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and even dated for three years before splitting in 2011.

As luck would have it, the former couple — now longtime friends — were both in the Hamptons, New York, on Saturday, Oct. 3, for premieres of their respective new movies, The Lightkeeper and The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd. They even posed for a photo together!

Speaking with PEOPLE ahead of The Lightkeeper‘s premiere, Cooper admits he “didn’t see the big picture” of the lasting impact Mamma Mia! would have when he and Seyfried filmed the original movie alongside Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Pierce Brosnan, Julie Walters and Christine Baranski.

“I can only see that now,” he says, sharing the “extraordinary” impact he’s since been privy to.

Parents have shared memories with Cooper of watching Mamma Mia! on repeat with their children. “Children watched it [our movie] every day, five times a day! So the parents of the children feel very connected with it because they remember their baby being young or their little child. And then there’s a group of people who used to go dancing and singing and just laughing constantly [watching it] and it filled people with joy.”

Cooper says Mamma Mia! fans have also told him over the years that the movie brought them comfort during the final days of their loved ones’ lives. “That, for me, is just extraordinary to be part of that,” he says.

He calls making the films “a joyous time as well. It’s a fun bunch of people. I’m desperate to make number three, which is constantly being spoken about.”

Seyfried and several other Mamma Mia! stars have repeatedly expressed interest in returning for a third installment over the years, and Cooper is just as eager to reunite with the cast.

“I came up with a great storyline for it. I said it on the red carpet recently, but I’ve realized that I’ve got the whole storyline wrong from the other one, so it didn’t really work,” he jokes. “I thought Amanda and I’d split up [in the sequel], but we get back together. I thought the whole film we could do a whole, like, we meet on the Greek island at someone else’s wedding and get back together.”

He quips, “By the end of this weekend, maybe Amanda and I will come up with the third. They better hurry up, because we’re all getting old. No one’s going to want to see these oldies on the beach.”

The two ran into each other “for the first time in a long time” at the festival, Seyfried tells PEOPLE on the red carpet for The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd. She describes Cooper as “hilarious.”

“Our lives are very different. We live in very different places and I just have nothing but good feelings about him,” she says. Though the two haven’t kept in close touch in recent years, Seyfried says that “when you’re with somebody for a long time when you’re younger, it just kind of evolves into this familial, nice, soft kind of bond.”

Seyfried, who has expressed enthusiasm for a third Mamma Mia! movie over the years, says she has no concrete update on whether another sequel is moving forward.

“I kept wanting to say yes and put it into the universe, manifest a Mamma Mia! 3, but all I can say is tick tock,” she says.

In 2023, Mamma Mia! producer Judy Craymer told Variety that she already had a storyline in mind for a third film.

“It just always takes a certain amount of time with Mamma Mia,” she said at the time, noting that ABBA members Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson “always take a certain amount of convincing.”

Cooper, who has been in a relationship with actress Gemma Chan since 2018, stars in The Lightkeeper as an Irish lighthouse keeper struggling with grief years after the deaths of his wife and son in 1924.

Seyfried stars opposite Scoot McNairy in Tim Blake Nelson‘s The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd. She plays a woman who falls in love with an incarcerated man while teaching creative writing classes at an Oklahoma prison.

Neither film has a release date yet.

Eva Marie Saint was a living legend.

The Oscar-winning actress, who turned 102 on July 4, 2026, lived through several eras of Hollywood. Though she retired from the industry, she had roles from 1954’s On the Waterfront, all the way to 2014, when she voiced Katara in the Nickelodeon animated series The Legend of Korra.

Ahead of hitting the big 100 in 2024, she told PEOPLE, “I certainly don’t feel 100 years old. I continue to take walks out in the fresh air, like watching baseball — especially the Los Angeles Dodgers, and enjoy time with my family and friends. A good life.”

The actress died of natural causes while “surrounded by family and loved ones” at her Los Angeles home on Tuesday, Oct. 6, according to a press release. She is survived by her two children, Darrell and Laurette, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

An investigation is ongoing into Survivor: China alum Jaime Dugan.

Dugan, 41, reportedly failed to return her 16-year-old son, Harper, to his father, Erik Huffman, after a weekend visit in August, and the FBI has opened an investigation, per the Daily Mail. Erik — who Dugan met on Survivor: China in 2007, married in 2009 and split from in 2024 — has primary custody of Harper, the outlet reported.

An Instagram account has been created to raise awareness about the case. According to the first post, shared on Sept. 30, Harper was “last seen with his mother (who does not have custody and has fled the state with him)” in Cayce, South Carolina, on Aug. 30.

In a statement shared to Entertainment Weekly, a Federal Bureau of Investigation spokesperson said, “The FBI is aware of the public information regarding Jamie [sic] Dugan and her son, however the FBI does not comment on the existence or nonexistence of any investigation. If the public sees Dugan, they should contact local authorities or 911.”

PEOPLE reached out to the FBI regarding the investigation, but did not receive an immediate response.

On Saturday, Oct. 3, a missing-person poster was shared with a photo of Harper, which said that he is “believed to be abducted” by Dugan and “believed to be in danger.”

“He has Autism Spectrum Disorder and has not been able to contact his father who has legal custody or family,” the poster reads.

Dugan was contacted by the Daily Mail and told the outlet, “I am absolutely not on the run.”

“The FBI has not contacted me whatsoever and Harper has done wellness checks with four officers,” she claimed.

Her ex, in contrast, told the outlet, “Harper’s safety and wellbeing is my top priority right now, and getting him back safely is extremely important.”

“I hate that he’s been ripped away,” Erik said. “We have such a good relationship. I had set up a good routine for him at my home, with school, and therapists, and tutors, and church youth groups. He was really coming into his own and had a very stable life with me.”

A Sept. 21 court order from Spartanburg County Family Court declared Harper “missing and endangered,” per the outlet, and found Dugan in direct contempt.

A small deer got a second chance to trot away into the North Carolina wilderness after being pulled from a storm drain.

In a Facebook update posted on Tuesday, Sept. 29, the Cary Fire Department shared details of a call the department responded to alongside Cary Animal Control, the Wake County Animal Control, and the town’s Public Works department.

According to the post, the fawn had been trapped in the storm drain for “several days” before authorities were alerted. Though these rescues occur across the nation in residential neighborhoods, each requires careful consideration of movement and equipment so that the animal is not harmed as the mission is underway.

In the photos shared on social media, the multi-team rescue required multiple ladders and team members being hoisted down into the hole to retrieve the deer. Once the animal was pulled to the surface, it was taken to the nearest animal care facility for further evaluation.

“After hours of careful collaboration, crews successfully rescued the fawn,” read the post. “Cary Police Department Animal Control transported the fawn to a local wildlife animal rehab facility.”

The department credits the successful retrieval to “patience, teamwork, and specialized skills,” the recipe for many similar rescues throughout this year. As early as February, a manatee was hoisted from a storm drain by Florida’s Brevard County Fire Rescue team members, who had coincidentally just completed a training on large-animal rescues at the time.

In May, a medium-sized dog named Dip in Arkansas found himself trapped under the concrete after running away from his owner. Dip was rescued by the Pea Ridge Police Department, namely Sergeant Day, who crawled into a nearby manhole to retrieve the dog.

A couple of months later, a raccoon rescue in Pennsylvania resulted in the Rostraver Township Fire Department (RTFD) using the Jaws of Life to pry open the metal bars the animal got its head stuck between. The rescue was also successful and injury-free, due to skilled rescue teams thinking fast and moving efficiently.
