To commemorate their 150th anniversary, Colston Hall in Bristol partnered with Jacknife Print Studio to create a series of gig posters of iconic performances, including one for Joy Division on 4 November 1979.

This is essentially sold out via jacknifeprints.com but it would seem they have one left which is "unnumbered but signed display print with slight denting and very small mark".

Handwritten rough (presumably by AHW) for the eventual Fac 15 poster for the Zoo Meets Factory Half-Way event (aka The Leigh Pop Festival). Tony Wilson designed this poster "after Peter Saville".

This translated into the eventual white-on-black poster / black-on-white draft flyer (which in this version contains a repeat of the "bring you the flesh..." line:

True Faith in promotion

Here we present the True Faith "leaf" promo badge/brooch (in gold and in silver editions) for special promotion of FAC 183 True Faith by New Order.

The promotional fun didn't stop there either for this release - there was also a poster and the True Faith Paperweight.

Fête du Graphisme Paris 2014

"Paris Invites The World" forms part of the Fête du Graphisme (Festival of Graphic Design) being held in Paris during January and February 2014. Peter Saville is one the graphic designers who has been asked to contribute three posters which showcase the best of their work in the world of music graphics.

The featured posters are Unknown Pleasures, Halluçienda and Movement. I was fortunate enough to help out with supplying the last of these thanks in turn to the kindness of a fellow Factory fan a few years ago who gave it to me.

Fête du Graphisme opens on 29 January and more information is available (in French only) at fetedugraphisme.org.

Colin White (Vinyl Revival) is opening a new shop in Manchester early in the New Year. It is very Factory-related in that it will sell original promotional posters and gig posters, art prints, etc including a number of Hacienda / Dry / New Order items from the personal collection of original Factory Records designer Trevor Johnson.

Trevor, who is famous for his solo and Johnson/Panas work with A Certain Ratio, Biting Tongues, Kalima, The Durutti Column and Electronic amongst others, has also designed the shop's graphic identity.

The Northern Quarter Picture Co. opens in January but you will be able to sneak a preview on their website at www.nqpc.co.uk very soon.

Larry Cassidy's Section 25 posters

Check out Stupefaction's excellent review of the Rude and Reckless: Punk/Post Punk Graphics 1976-1982 exhibition currently on at the Kasher Gallery in New York City, NY.

The exhibition comprises a massive collection of posters, flyers and other post-punk ephemera including quite a few choice Factory Records items, notably a rare A Certain Ratio Rough Trade poster for FACUS 4 Do The Du.

Central Station Paint Coronation Street Pt1

Central Station Design present an official collaboration with ITV for the ongoing 50th Anniversary celebrations of the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street. The Central Station team comprising Matt and Pat Carroll and Karen Jackson have produced a series of technicolour portraits of the soap's most famous stars.

The prints will be exhibited in an exhibition entitled Central Station Paint Coronation Street Part 1 at the Richard Goodall Gallery in Manchester from Friday 3 December until Saturday 15 January.

Central Station Design said "We are all massive Corrie fans, the long list of colourful characters that have lived on the street over the past 50 years, not only relate to us as people, but have come along at times that reflect the social and cultural dynamics of the world around us. Inspired by the hand-painted film posters from the golden age of Hollywood and Bollywood, we wanted to create a series of portraits that capture the unique and timeless personalities of such memorable and infamous characters. We wanted to bring this sense of nostalgic, technicolor glamour back, but at the same time update it with a Mancunian Central Station twist. It has been brilliant to put our stamp on the national treasure that is Corrie and be a part of celebrating what Tony Warren started 50 years ago."

Central Station Paint Coronation Street Part 1 is at the Richard Goodall Gallery in Manchester from Thursday 2 December to 15 January 2011.

Today's Joy Division Plan K screening was abandoned after 30 minutes due to a power cable being cut by workers digging up the road outside the Heritage Centre in Macclesfield. With all power gone to the Cinemac cinema (which had played host yesterday to the triple bill of Factory Records-related films) the organisers had no choice except to cancel with full refunds being promised to the forty-odd people who had attended. The abandonment was taken in good spirit by most of those there, including Jon Savage who introduced the film, with the whole unlikely sequence of events being considered to be "very Factory".

It was a shame because the rarely-seen Plan K footage was highly gripping in all its fuzzy, raw, primitive glory. With both nights at the Manchester Apollo also on the programme it was just getting going when after about 35 minutes everything drew suddenly to a stop.

We decamped to the cafe downstairs and then to the Joy Division exhibition upstairs. Mark Reeder's stark black and white portrait of Ian Curtis was blown up to gigantic proportions on the far wall, various posters adorned the walls and display cases contained all manner of artefacts including contracts, setlists, invoices, press cuttings, photos, records, tapes, books, artwork and miscellaneous personal items (the best of which was a postcard from Steve Morris to Gillian sent whilst on a European tour which said how bad it was but how he thought it would only get worse!).

The one item which has probably generated the most interest is a handwritten letter from Ian Curtis to Rob Gretton about the release of Closer which reads:

"Judged purely on my own terms, and not to be interpreted as an opinion or reflection of mass media or public taste but a criticism of my own esoteric and elitist mind of which the mysteries of life are very few and beside which the grace of God has deemed to indicate in a vision the true nature of all things, plus the fact that everyone else are a sneaky, japing load of tossers, decree that this LP is a disaster. IK Curtis."

Every item tells a story and a lot of detail is crammed into a relatively small exhibition space and it's all well worth the two pounds entry fee. The exhibition continues at the Heritage Centre in Macclesfield until Sunday 8 August 2010.

"April sees the release of a free exhibition poster giveaway for Ed Templeton's museum survey The Cemetery of Reason. This is the official exhibition poster for Ed's first large scale solo museum retrospective. The Cemetery of Reason is conceived as a mid-career survey of the American artist Ed Templeton, assembling clusters of images of the photos, paintings and sculptures he has executed over the last fifteen years. The exhibition tells the story of a pro skateboarder, a photographer, a draftsman, a painter, etc. A story which, although it focuses on his own life and those of the people around him, transcends the autobiographical and exposes social and societal phenomena unhesitatingly but without pointing a finger."

The official poster is effectively being given away for the princely sum of 0.01 USD (plus p+p).

Kevin Cummins - Manchester Poster Set

Blanka, the online gallery and permanent visual archive, has produced a special Manchester Poster Set designed by Wallzo. The unique, dual-layer piece features Kevin Cummins's iconic photograph of Morrissey on the Rochdale Canal which adorns the front cover of his book Manchester: Looking for the Light through the Pouring Rain.

The A1-size poster is printed on 170gsm PhoeniXmotion stock and is overlaid with a top sheet featuring a quote by Chris Lethbridge, printed in blue and white ink on GF Smith Transclear semi-opaque stock. Each set is signed by Kevin Cummins.

The Names (with strings), The Wake, Biting Tongues, Section 25 (with Beth Cassidy) and A Certain Ratio (without Denise Johnson) tore it up late into the Brussels night at Plan K (La Raffinerie) the former sugar refinery in the wilds of Molenbeek on Saturday night.

A hitch with the lighting meant that the doors opened late. Fortunately those waiting outside were eventually let at least into the lobby so they didn't freeze to death in the creeping Brussels winter. Once inside everyone warmed up with James Nice's "black and white art film", Umbrellas in the Sun, turned monochrome specially for the evening.

The main bands were ably supported by the Kevin Cummins / Graham Massey A/V presentation of Manchester Looking for the Light through the Pouring Rain, Re:Order, and DJs Graham Massey, Tom Moderne, plus much more.

Copious (rather too much in some cases) amounts of beer were purchased quite literally with (yellow) beer tokens and drunk with abandon. Various stalls plyed their wares including James Nice's LTM, Parklife, gig posters, and second hand records.

Big Cerysmatic shouts to Caesar, Philippe Carly, Vin Cassidy, Kevin Cummins & Susan Ferguson, DoJo, Frédéric Cotton, Jez Kerr, Marc and Michel from The Names, Mark Rutter, Graham Massey, (The Real) Mathieu, Bruce Mitchell, Mr Moscrop, Liam Mullan, Norbert Dewender, James Nice, Paul Pledger & Ameta, Tony Quigley, Iain Smedley, Ronald & Anya klein Tank and Hans Joerg Zopp (and anyone else who knows me).

And finally, a big apology to the lovely lady in the upstairs bar for taking those tasty sandwiches. However, seeing as this was the only thing we ate all night it turned out to be a good move!

Alongside the promotional poster and the "leaf" promo brooch (in gold and in silver editions), Factory Records really went to town when it issued the ultra-rare commemorative New Order True Faith paperweight bearing the Factory Records catalogue number FAC 183.

Cerysmatic attended the London book launch for Manchester: Looking for the Light through the Pouring Rain by Kevin Cummins on Thursday 1 October 2009 at the Amuti Gallery near Russell Square in London.

A good crowd including Mike Pickering, Mark Farrow, Paul Morley, Richard Boon, Pete Shelley, Noel Gallagher and Gonnie Rietveld celebrated the culmination of five years hard work in style.

Thanks to Kevin Cummins, Richard Boon, Paul Morley and Pete Shelley for collectively making the draw for the winner of the recent Kevin Cummins competition (commemorative pic included).

Congratulations to Richard Shepherd who wins a copy of the book together with a set of posters. Thanks for all your many entries. The answers were: 1. b. Paul Morley, 2. The author is of course a fan of Manchester City FC and 3. Buzzcocks (Nov 77).
