1. The students stand up and make a big circle. Meanwhile, Teacher stands in the middle of the standing students.

Procedures:

Use playing cards, and play any card games.

Write the number of cards on the board (e.g. 10, 9, 8, ...) in a list.

Next to each number, write a words you would like the children to read or practice (e.g. 10 is big, 9 is small).

When the children play on eof the cards during the games, they either read the corresponding words, or make a sentence using it. For example, whe a child plays a 10, she could say Elephants are big.

Start with the easy words, and while they are playing, change some of the words, gradually making them more difficult and introducing ne words.

Note:

The game usually works better if every card does not have a corresponding word so that the folow of the game is nto broken too much.

Procedures:

Divide the children into teams, and get one child from each team to draw animals on the board, then draw a target around each animal with points in each circle of the target.

Give one child from each team a blindfold and a piece of chalk or board marker.

The other children on each team call out instructions such as left, right, and go straight to get their member to the board and touch the target with the chalk or board marker.

Note:

We can also add soft obstacles between the children and the target. This creates a need for language such as go around the cushion, walk solowly and stop!

Instructions:

Divide the children into two or more teams (in a one - to - one class the teacher is one team).

The team take turns to throw a soft dice into a box or basket. if the dice goes in the basket, the team gets 10 points. If it misses, the team gets the points on the dices.

Before throwing the dices, a child or team performs a language task, such as identifying or reading a flash card. This game works well for review, consolidation, or learning new cards that mixed in with familiar cards.

She secretly chooses one of the cards, counts how many letters there are in the word or sentence, and draws a dash for each letter on the board, leaving a space between each word.

The other children take turn, either individually or as team members, to guess the spelling of the words.each child calls out a letter (with phonic pronounciation), and if the words contains that letter, the child in front of of the class writes the letter in all spaces where it appears in the word or sentences.

If the word doesn't containthe letter, one part of an alien is drawn on the board. The alien could have a body, a head, four legs, and two tentacles, and the aim of the game is for a team to spell the words or sentences before their alien is completely drawn.

When the words are used that the children have not encountered before, the child in front of the class has cards with words on one slide, and pictures on the other.

When the children playing game have choosen the correct language for the spaces on the board, the child wth the cards reveals the picture to the class.

Many children seem happy and concentrate hard when sitting down by themselves with a pencil and notebook. Therefore, a teacher should apply quiet and lively games to meet the child's learning style. The most important point to be considered when applying a game is the language target. When it is dealing with core language target it is good for the teachers to apply game and have the most fun way.

There are many procedures in applying games. It very much depends on the kind of game or activity. In general the steps of teaching will last as follows

1. Model the game

2. Have student play the game

3. Take part in the game or step back and let the children play

4. Giving score

5. Cheat creatively

6. Give all children a chance

There two kinds of games; Games for learning and games for fun. Games for learning are focusing on a certain language target. The students playing the game and the language used are directed to the learning target. For example, in Blindfold game the children are playing and using certain expression such as; giving direction (turn left, turn right, one step ahead, etc), giving instructions (stop, put your hand on the board, etc). The other game is just for fun like moving chairs, hide and seek, etc) in which, the use of English is very limited and the purpose is having fun.

Why teaching english through games?

Most children see life in terms of games. As teachers, we need to recognize and go along with the basic fact, and give games a central role in our classes. If learning itself feels like a game, and if the children feel they are discovering a fascinating new world of English through games they would also enjoy outside the classroom, it is much more likely the children will take what they learn home with them and use it in their daily lives. Games also provide a nonthreatening environment for coping with new learning. When children having fun, they are more likely to take risks, make mistakes without having feelings of failure, and try to overcome their initial feelings of confusion when they encounter new words and patterns.

A child who encounters a new English word, expression, or pattern while she is immersed in a game, is far more motivated to learn it and much more likely to internalize it than a child who receives the new knowledge from her teacher verbally. The purpose of applying games technique is to provide fun learning so that students will learn unconsciously.
