Applications for April 2026 should be returned to the school office by Wednesday 21 January 2026, please, for us to allocate places in accordance with our Nursery Admissions Policy.

Our Nursery can take children from the beginning of the term following their third birthday. Children may have up to five terms of free part-time early learning with us before they join the Reception class. In addition, we have a chargeable lunch club that runs until 1.30pm. Nursery children may have a school dinner or bring a packed lunch.

Children may have up to five terms of free part-time early learning with us before they join the Reception class. The Nursery aims to create an environment where children can have a variety of experiences through play. This means we can develop their knowledge and understanding of the world around them and give them a strong foundation upon which we can start to build the curriculum.

Nursery Application forms can be downloaded here for 2025/26 or pop into the office to collect a printed form.

Applications for April 2026 should be returned to the school office by Wednesday 21 January 2026, please, for us to allocate places in accordance with our Nursery Admissions Policy.

In addition, we have a chargeable lunch club that runs until 1.30pm. Nursery children may have a school dinner or bring a packed lunch. During this period and for their playtime in or outside, the children remain fully supervised. We do not offer 30 hours of funded childcare, but you may use extended hours to cover the additional cost of the lunch club (up to 8 hours 20 mins) if you are eligible.

Wonderful Nativity Week

What a delight we have had all week, with every Foundation & Key Stage 1 class performing their individual Nativities, not just once but twice! Each afternoon we have had the dress rehearsals to the other children and then each morning the parents & grandparents have come along to watch.

Nursery's Hitcham's Hundreds

On Monday, Nursery completed their challenge to create as many models as we could using 100 lego bricks each time for the Hitcham's Hundreds. The children all came up with some wonderful models together and worked as a team. We had castles, pizza and even a dinosaur. Thank you so much for your sponsorship and well done nursery!

Harvest assemblies

We celebrated our harvest festival at St Michaels' s Church. Every class contributed by sharing either a poem, a song or facts about the Waveney food bank. Many of the classes focused particularly on sharing - a message which Reverend Chris reinforced in his blessing. Our donations were being shared with local families through the Waveney Food Bank. Matthew shared some interesting facts and information about the charity at both Key Stage services. The worship team shared prayers about Harvest. Nursery and Reception children held their special assembly at school.

The worship team helped load up the van with not only our school donations but also the donations from the service at St Michael's Church last Sunday.

Thank you to everyone for the donations and we know that there will be families in our local community who will be benefiting from all of these donations.

Thank you also to the parents who kindly offered to help walk the children to and from the church and those that came to join in the harvest celebrations at the church.

Sporting Day

On Wednesday 16th July Sir Robert Hitchams took part in a whole school sporting day. The day started off with an assembly on high standards in sport and for the rest of the day the school was on a rotation of sports which was Handball, Tennis, Dance and Playground games. The children came dressed as their sporting heroes and really did make the school proud with their positive attitude and stamina throughout the day.

I personally wanted to say a big well done to all the children for their PE over the 2 years I have been at the school.

Brushing up on good dentistry!

Sarah from the Dentaid Charity and Brightbites visited the school today to deliver workshops about keeping your teeth healthy. She visited Nursery, Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 to talk to the children about cleaning teeth; naming teeth, advice on toothbrushing, exploring sugar awareness and the importance of visiting a dentist regularly. They learnt songs too to help sing when looking after the teeth and they were all given a toothbrush and toothpaste. The children all listened really well and had some great questions that Sarah was able to answer.

Pumpkin's cheery ways!

Pumpkin has enjoyed his first few weeks here at SRH and has visited the classes throughout the term. He loves having cuddles with the children and they have adored meeting and holding him. He even has his own collection of Christmas Cards!! He has been such a wonderful addition to the school making lots of children and staff smile at his cuteness.

All this week the children in Reception, Year 1 & 2 and Nursery have been delivering their own take on the Christmas Story. Not only have they performed for other classes in the afternoons, but they have also performed for parents and grandparents each morning.

We are so proud of these children, for their confidence in standing up on a stage with the bright lights shining down on them, for their amazing recollection and delivery of their lines, and for the beautiful singing of their Christmas songs.

These Nativities remind us of the magic of Christmas, and the reason we celebrate it - the birth of Jesus, son of God.

Well done to all the staff who worked so hard to pull the wonderful nativities together.

Harvest Stay and Play

This week Nursery invited their grown ups to play. Everybody got stuck in with all the different autumnal activities and had a great time. The children enjoyed showing their grown ups their morning routine and even shared a harvest sing-a-long with them. We sang Big Red Combine Harvester and Dingle Dangle Scarecrow. Thank you for coming and we look forward to the next Stay and Play.

Harvest Celebration

This week Reception and Nursery came together to celebrate Harvest Festival. The children spoke about their favourite fruits and vegetables and whether they grew over or underground. We listened to the story of The Little Red Hen and joined in with the repeated phrases. All the children sat beautifully and we finished with a couple of songs including 'I love the sun.'

Market Day for Nursery

This morning Nursery walked to the Market Hill and enjoyed looking at the variety of shops and stalls.

We spent lots of time at the fruit and veg stall guessing the names of the produce and we purchased a pineapple, a 'Crown Prince' pumpkin and some flowers. Then we had a look at the tasty treats at the bakery stall before buying some juicy raisins from Cupboard Love.

The children walked brilliantly the whole way and were very polite to other pedestrians.

Back at nursery we enjoyed some yummy apples, gifted to us from one of the stall holders, and the raisins for snack.

Super Learning in Nursery

Nursery have all settled so well and have been doing some brilliant learning. We have enjoyed music in the ark, PE on the field and in the hall and we had a wonderful first session in Robin Wood. The children have picked up routines quickly and are enjoying all the resources we have in nursery. Cars are a firm favourite as well as the water tray and painting. We have been builders, pilots, mums, dads, knights, artists and geographers. Recently we have been focusing on parts of plants and have enjoyed exploring sunflowers with tweezers and magnifying glasses. We are super proud of how well they are all doing. Here are a few pictures of what we've been up to.

Key Stage 1, Foundation and Nursery Sports Day

Key Stage 1, Foundation and Nursery enjoyed their events in the afternoon. We enjoyed watching running races, hurdles, “beach race”, sack races and egg and spoon races. The children all did so well and all looked like they were enjoying themselves. They were cheering each other on and thank you to the year 6 pupils who helped set up the races.

Key stage 1 were also treated to a well-earned and well-received ice pop at the end of their afternoon. Thank you to the “Friends” for supplying these – they were very well received by everyone. There are a few photos on here but do check out the gallery for others.
