Thousands more may be forced to evacuate ahead of fast-growing Arizona wildfire

KACHINA VILLAGE, Ariz. -- As smoke billowed over their homes, residents threatened by a growing Arizona wildfire filled their vehicles with clothes, heirlooms, medication, legal documents and family pictures. Many of them collectively gasped when they were told at a community meeting that a wildfire was approaching.
"I'm a Korean War veteran. There's not much that worries me," said 82-year-old Dick Summit, who decided to leave town and arranged to stay with a friend in nearby Flagstaff.
The blaze burning in a canyon between Sedona and Flagstaff dramatically increased in size Wednesday, serving as a reminder of the dangers facing Arizona amid a drought that has left its forests tinder-dry.
The fire grew to an estimated 7 square miles, or about 4,500 acres, and erratic and gusty winds grounded air tankers that were brought in to fight the fire. Authorities warned about 3,200 residents in two communities between Sedona and Flagstaff that they need to be ready to evacuate if the fire makes another advance.
"It's pretty bad, we're all ready," said Ken Patrick, a Flagstaff city worker whose home was among those threatened by the fire. "I don't know if we're going to wait for them to tell us to get out of here. It's a no-brainer."
Officials said late Wednesday that the blaze was zero percent contained,

Elsewhere in this village of about 1,400 off Interstate 17, residents were clearing brush from their homes and hosing down the landscape. Search and rescue crews with the Coconino County Sheriff's Office were going door to door while pre-evacuation warnings were in place checking to see which residents were home and which weren't. For those who they knew were safe, they placed a yellow ribbon on their mailboxes.Just south, hundreds of firefighters battled the fire that began Tuesday afternoon. Officials said it was probably caused by humans.
The fire broke out at the start of the tourist season and closed the main road between Sedona and Flagstaff - two cities that attract many visitors in summer months. The fire is burning near Slide Rock State Park, a popular recreation area because of its natural rock water slides.
Sophie Lwin, of Peoria, said she had relatives from the Los Angeles area coming in for a weekend at the Butterfly Garden Inn, which had to evacuate because of the fire. She said the area is her favorite destination, and she and her husband visit the Sedona area at least five times a year.
"It's Memorial Day weekend. It's going to be so hard and so expensive to get anything anywhere else," she said.
About 500 firefighters and other personnel are already assigned to the fire, including 15 Hotshot crews, Coconino National Forest officials said Wednesday.
There were no reports so far of injuries or structures burned.
The fire forced the evacuations of 100 threatened businesses and homes in a 2-mile stretch north of the state park, and 15 people stayed at a shelter in Flagstaff.
As the fire moved up the canyon's steep walls, it sent up large amounts of smoke and ash and created hazy conditions in Flagstaff, about 15 miles from the blaze.
The blaze presented several challenges for firefighters, including steep terrain, thick pine forest, gusting winds and the drought conditions, said Bill Morse, a Flagstaff Fire Department captain and a spokesman for firefighting managers.
But Morse said calming fire conditions in Southern California have freed up extra crews to fight the Arizona fire.
"Fortunately the fires in San Diego have calmed down enough for the resources to be released here," Morse said.
The evacuees included Nathan and Mickella Westerfield, young honeymooners from Phoenix who arrived at a campground in the canyon Tuesday afternoon. They were headed into Sedona for dinner when they passed the fire, which was burning shrubs and trees in a small valley visible from the highway.
As other passers-by stopped to take pictures of the fire, a firefighter told the couple they couldn't return to their campground to retrieve their newly purchased camping gear and other belongings, Nathan Westerfield said.
"He told us, 'no, we're evacuating,'" he said. "We literally have the clothes on our backs."
Red Cross spokeswoman Trudy Thompson Rice said most of the 15 people who stayed Tuesday night at the shelter at a Flagstaff school were campers. The Westerfields were among those who spent the night at the shelter.
The fire comes less than a year after a blaze in nearby Prescott killed 19 firefighters who were part of a Hotshot crew.
A separate wildfire burned 200 acres and closed Interstate 17 near Cordes Junction in both directions for more than four hours late Tuesday. The interstate is the main route between the Phoenix area and northern Arizona.

this storm was not like any other storm it was a very evil storm. this storm brought with it hatred and evil beyond all unimaginable proportions. this storm ripped the love and compassion from everyone's hearts. it left them empty and lost.

but when the three that were appointed were awakened by the fear in these towns peoples hearts they rode out as fast as they could to this town and seen unbelievable things that were going on within this town things one would never want to experience.

Syria's new cabinet has met in emergency session, after Prime Minister Riad Hijab defected and denounced Damascus's "terrorist regime".

The White House said the defection showed that President Bashar al-Assad's government was "crumbling from within".
But Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi said Mr Hijab had not appeared in person and he rejected reports of other ministerial defections.
Meanwhile, reports suggest the army has stepped up its bombardment of Aleppo.
Government forces are trying to dislodge rebel fighters who have taken control of some areas of Syria's second city.
Opposition activists report intense attacks on rebel-held areas on the north-east and south-west sides of the city.
State TV said troops had clashed with "terrorist groups" in several places, inflicting heavy losses and recapturing two police stations.
Further deaths were reported in Damascus on Tuesday and an unconfirmed report from Syrian rebels said three of 48 Iranians being held as hostages had been killed by army shelling.
The rebels have claimed that the Iranians, abducted from a bus in Damascus on Saturday, are members of the Revolutionary Guard. Tehran says they are pilgrims who had been heading for a Shia religious site.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian has said it holds the US responsible for the group's safety.
He said the US was supporting "terrorist groups" and despatching weapons to Syria, and was therefore responsible for the lives of those abducted.
'Business as usual' Caretaker Prime Minister Omar Ghalawanji headed a cabinet meeting on Monday, stressing that all the ministers were there.

The BBC's Jim Muir, in neighbouring Lebanon, said state media were giving the impression of it being business as usual in Damascus.

Opposition activists said that apart from the prime minister, two other ministers had also defected and a third - Finance Minister Mohammad Jalilati - was arrested as he tried to escape.
But Syria's information minister played down the significance of Mr Hijab's departure and denied there had been further defections.
"We haven't heard anything from the former prime minister and he didn't appear on TV," Omran al-Zoubi was quoted as saying by Syrian state news agency Sana.
The finance minister was said to have given a phone interview saying he was still in his post and working from his office.
According to Sana, Religious Endowments Minister Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed also denied he had defected.
Syria was a state of institutions, the information minister said, and the flight of some of its individuals would not affect the state, however prominent they were.
'Safe location' Riad Hijab, appointed as prime minister less than two months ago, is the most prominent Syrian figure to defect so far.
Although his whereabouts are unclear, his spokesman appeared on al-Jazeera TV in neighbouring Jordan saying that the prime minister had fled Syria with his family and was in "a safe location".
"I have defected from the terrorist, murderous regime and [am] joining the holy revolution," ran Mr Hijab's statement read by his spokesman Mohammed el-Etri.
France said the Assad government was "doomed" and White House spokesman Jay Carney said such high-level defections signalled that President Assad's grip on power was "loosening".
"If he cannot maintain cohesion within his own inner circle, it reflects on his inability to maintain any following among the Syrian people that isn't brought about at the point of a gun," he said.

Philippine capital paralyzed by floods

Authorities said half of Manila had been hit by flooding

Flooding caused by torrential rain has paralyzed parts of the Philippine capital, forcing tens of thousands to flee their homes and closing schools, offices and the stock exchange.

Casualties have been reported, with a number of people buried in a landslide in Manila and reports of other deaths elsewhere.

Officials said that water was up to waist and neck levels in some areas.

More than 50 people died after Typhoon Saola struck over a week ago.

Widespread flooding has been reported in the capital and the surrounding provinces, according to a statement from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

It said "the south-west monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm 'Haikui' located 300km [184 miles] north-east of Taiwan" was expected to bring more rain.

"Expect landslides/flash-floods in mountainous areas and floods in low-lying areas."

President Benigno Aquino met civil defense officials to discuss the situation. "Everybody who is supposed to do something is doing what he is supposed to do," he said.

The severity of the rain since Monday afternoon - in an already saturated city - has led officials to issue the highest level of alert, says the BBC's Kate McGeown in Manila.

For many Manila residents, these rains will be a reminder of the deadly floods caused by Typhoon Ketsana in 2009, which killed more than 400 people, our correspondent adds.

Casualties

Local media said several members of one family had been killed or were missing after a landslide hit shanty houses in Quezon City in Manila.

A local police official was quoted as saying four people had drowned in a province close to Manila, but this has not been confirmed.

Weather officials warn that the floods could get worse as the overflowing La Mesa dam, which holds back Manila's main reservoir, spills more water.

"If we put it in a percentage, at least 50% of Metro Manila is flooded," Jean Navarez, from the state weather service, was quoted by AFP as saying.

Residents living in slums and shanty-towns on low ground have taken shelter in community buildings, reports said.

Several key roads were impassable and power had also been cut in some areas, mostly as a precaution, officials said.

Dams and waterways in affected areas are also being closely monitored. Rescue efforts are now underway to help stranded residents.

"As of now, it's difficult to rescue the trapped residents, as we are battling strong currents with our life crafts," police rescuer Eric Baran told Reuters news agency.

When you have money there are a great deal of things you really don’t worry about. And I know that way to well I used to make pretty damn good money I had a wife that would spend most of it but none the less I had money.

This should open your eyes a little bit if you have a heart of any kind. Ok your poor you bairly have enough money to keep electric on your m-power box the only food you get is from the free food box donation places that you have to find and get to because you don’t have a car so you have to walk. Now the ones within walking distance only allow you to get a food box once a month and let me tell you one little box is not going to last a month so you walk the 7 miles to get the free food box at another location. Now you have just used up both boxes and its still only been one week into the month.

Now let’s throw this at you, you are in your house you have money in the bank a nice new car 5 bedroom house with 2 people living in it. and let’s just say you have to go to the bathroom. You go to the closest one because you have 4 and you sit down and start making your bowel movement when you’re done you reach over to your nice Charmin toilet paper and do your business. Then you get up wash your hands and leave the bathroom. That’s what you do.

A poor person has to walk to the nearest gas station get the key and make there bowel movement there, why? You ask, because they don’t have any toilet paper they can’t afford it and there is no water so they can’t flush the toilet.

Think about that for one second most of us take for granted the simple necessities like let’s say, laundry detergent or even dish soap or for that matter bar soap. These simple little things are out of reach for a poor person. It’s either have electric for a couple days if you leave the thermostat on 80 or 82 or you buy toilet paper. Myself, I used to keep my thermostat at a chilling 75 I loved it cool.

There are so many more things that we shrug off as unimportant when in fact to some it’s like gold. Yes I have been there I know what it’s like to not have to worry about where I’m going to take my next dump. But now I’m experiencing the ruff life of a poor person first hand and let me tell you it really sucks.

Life is not easy in these times especially if you have a family to take care of. See the thing is, I am not a government resource sucking whore I work for my money and if I need help I ask my friends or family for help. The government can kiss my Lilly white ass.

What I’m getting at here is. I’m writing these informational newsletters because it’s my way of contributing to the needs of the poor and besides I need some laundry soap if you can donates a few bucks to the poor me fund that would be awesome.

I Need Work ASAP

Try and imagine this, you are paying your bills with what’s left of a small check you received two weeks ago and that’s it nothing else is coming in. You are good for one month, that’s it, and you have a half a tank of gas. When that month is up you have zero money and you can’t buy food or pay any bills.

Now just sit back and think about that for a second….. There are thousands of families that experience this every day. And now I’m experiencing it. let me tell you it’s not a very good feeling at all. But the difference is I am not worried. Why? You might ask; well I have pretty strong faith. The God I serve has always been what I like to call my last minute God he always comes through at the last minute.

There is a scripture that I stand buy and I’m sure a great deal of people have herd it.

“ faith without works is dead” well I have the faith and I have been busting my tail trying to find ways to make money. So I have the work part covered as well.

In the business that I’m in it’s hard to gain new contracts because this is a very tight industry, but; longevity is key to success so I am trying to hang on as long as possible. I have only been doing this kind of work for about 7 years and there are companies out there that have been in business for 20 plus years, so those are the ones that have the contracts.

The reason I’m writing this letter, is to inform the ones that own businesses about my qualifications. I have faith that there are people out there that need an employee like me to become part of their team.

I have a wide range of qualifications. Here are a few of them.

US economy adds 163,000 new jobs

The US economy added an extra 163,000 jobs in July, according to official figures, beating analysts' forecasts.

However, the unemployment rate rose from 8.2% to 8.3% last month, as more people re-entered the workforce but failed to find a job.
The US Department of Labor also said 6,000 fewer jobs were created in May and June than first estimated.
The US economy has to generate 100,000 new jobs a month just to stand still, according to the Federal Reserve.
The total number of unemployed people was 12.8 million last month, unchanged from June.
Private sector firms hired an extra 172,000 staff, which more than offset the 9,000 fall in government payrolls.

President Obama's basic argument is simple. Without his actions, including spending to stimulate and save industries, the economy would have gone down the drain.
The president claims what is needed is more Obama. Notably "an extension of middle-class tax cuts" and a Congress that will pass his American Jobs Act, to help public sector hiring. Even if he is absolutely right, as a campaigning position it is pretty lame. "It could have been worse" is not a great rallying cry.
While blaming Congress may be popular, it is peculiar as an argument for re-election. If Obama wins he is likely to face an even more intransigent bunch on Capitol Hill. But even though America may feel let down by Mr Obama, it has yet to be convinced by Mr Romney. This election really is wide open.

The figures were better than most economists had forecast.

"We are not seeing large-scale layoffs, so job destruction is pretty limited," said Scott Brown, chief economist at Raymond James & Associates.
There were also signs that Americans were optimistic about finding a job. The number of discouraged workers - people not looking for work because they believe there are no jobs - fell 267,000 to 852,000.
The number of involuntary part-time workers, those whose hours have been cut back or who could not find full-time jobs, was unchanged at 8.2 million.
Candidates for the November presidential election have been watching the jobs reports closely, as the economy remains a top voter concern.
President Barack Obama said: "Let's acknowledge, we've still got too many folks out of work. We've got more work to do on their behalf."
The White House's chair of economic advisers, Alan Krueger, said: "Any increase in the unemployment rate is unwelcome but we do see an economy that is continuing to add jobs."
He added that the private sector had added jobs for 29 months in a row, for a total of 4.5 million.
But Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney described the slight increase in US unemployment to 8.3% from 8.2% last month as "a hammer blow to struggling middle-class families", as he said his jobs plan would add 12 million new jobs by the end of his first term.

To understand why more jobs didn't lower the unemployment rate, you have to look at how the figures are compiled. The US Department of Labor uses two surveys to measure employment.
One survey asks companies and government agencies how many staff they employed during the month. In July, firms said they were hiring. This is the measure economists tend to focus on most.
The unemployment rate comes from a survey of households. Government employees ask the adults in each household if they are working. Those who don't are asked if they're looking for a job. Last month, more people said they were unemployed. Less people have given up looking for a job, but that number is still high, revealing the continuing struggle many Americans face finding work.

"You know this," Mr Romney said. "These numbers are not just statistics. These are real people, really suffering, having a hard time."

Mr Romney went on to criticise the president's policies, saying "This is an extraordinary record of failure."
Last week, official data showed the US economy grew at an annual rate of 1.5% in the second three months of the year, that was slower than the 2% pace at the start of 2012.
On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve said its programme to reduce long-term borrowing costs for firms and households would continue for the rest of the year.
Under Operation Twist, the Fed buys long-term bonds from retail lenders and swaps them for shorter-term bonds.
But it disappointed some investors by not announcing any fresh measures to stimulate economic growth.
The Fed has kept base interest rates at close to zero for nearly four years and pumped $2.3bn into the economy.

Uganda's Yoweri Museveni warns of Ebola threat

Up to 90% of those who contract Ebola die from the virus

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni has urged people to avoid physical contact, after the deadly Ebola virus claimed one life in the capital, Kampala.

Fourteen people have now died since the outbreak began in western Uganda three weeks ago, he said in a broadcast.
There have been no confirmed cases of the infection spreading in Kampala.
Ebola, one of the most virulent diseases in the world, is spread by close personal contact and can kill up to 90% of those who become infected.
Mr Museveni said health officials were trying to trace everyone who had had contact with victims so that they could be quarantined.
People should avoid shaking hands, kissing or having sex to prevent the disease from spreading, he added.
Mr Museveni said relatives and friends should not bury anyone who is suspected to have died of Ebola.
"Instead call health workers because they know how to do it," he said.
Shocked Mr Museveni said seven doctors and 13 health workers at Mulago hospital - the main referral hospital in Kampala - were in quarantine after "at least one or two cases" were taken there from Kibaale district, about 170km (100 miles) west of Kampala.
One victim - a health worker who had been transferred to the capital - later died.
"I wish you good luck, and may God rest the souls of those who died in eternal peace," Mr Museveni said as he ended his address to the nation.
The BBC's Ignatius Bahizi in Kampala says that some people have not yet heard about the latest outbreak of Ebola and are shocked when they find out.
At a bus station in the city centre, our correspondent saw officials warning passengers about the virus and telling them to avoid physical contact.
The first victim of the latest outbreak was a pregnant woman.
It then spread at a funeral, Mr Museveni said.
Uganda has seen three major Ebola outbreaks over the past 12 years.
The deadliest was in 2000 when 425 people were infected. More than half of them died.
There is no vaccine for the virus. Symptoms include sudden onset of fever, weakness, headache, vomiting and kidney problems.

Everybody knows that China is on the move. Even despite the recent global slowdown — and despite what the naysayers may try to tell you — China’s economy is still growing more than seven times faster than America’s is.
But what most Americans do NOT know — what our media steadfastly refuses to admit — is that China is already so rich, it can now DICTATE economic policy to the world; even to the United States of America.

I know — it’s hard to believe. Especially since many have been saying that China’s economic explosion is over.
But consider the shocking report that Yahoo Finance recently posted. I quote:

“The International Monetary Fund has just dropped a bombshell, and nobody noticed.
“For the first time, the international organization has set a date for the moment when the ‘Age of America’ will end and the U.S. economy will be overtaken by that of China.”

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), by 2016, the United States will no longer be the world’s number one economic power.
According to the IMF, China will be richer than America in less than five years.
But according to the prestigious Peterson Institute — and based on data just published by the University of Pennsylvania — the IMF is wrong: The Chinese economy will NOT surpass America’s by 2016.
Nor will it happen in 2017 or even in 2020, for that matter.
Peterson and the University of Pennsylvania say China is ALREADY the world’s #1 economicpower.
And the thing is, they proved it.
These two highly respected institutions just presented irrefutable proof that in real terms — when you adjust for the domestic purchasing power of respective currencies ...
The U.S. economy produced goods and services valued at $14.6 trillion in 2010 ...
But China’s Gross Domestic Product soared to $14.8 trillion.
China’s economy is already larger than America’s.
And what’s worse, the United States is falling farther behind every day:

According to the official figures from both Washington and Beijing, the U.S. economy grew about 1.7% in 2011.
China’s economy grew 9.2%.
That’s more than SEVEN AND ONE-HALF TIMES FASTER; fast enough to nearly DOUBLE the size of China’s already-massive economy once each decade.
And if you get to know a little more about both nations, China’s burgeoning economic power becomes even more unsettling. Because the fact is, Beijing has become so powerful, it can now dictate economic policy to the U.S.
>> The Beijing government has almost no debt ...
>> But Washington has nearly $145 trillion in debt and obligations.
** China has $3.2 trillion in cash — and its cash reserves are growing ever larger, month after month ...
** But Washington has almost no cash on hand and has to borrow nearly half of every dollar it spends — much of it is borrowed from China.

>> China’s total tax revenues are up nearly 30% from a year ago ...
>> But Washington’s tax revenues are dramatically down due to the sluggish U.S. economy.
** The U.S. has about 160 million workers ...
** China has 810 million workers — more than 5 times more than the United States.
>> 97% of all Chinese workers are employed ...
>> But 14 million U.S. workers are either unemployed or underemployed.
** In China’s urban areas, wages ROSE 7.6% in 2011 — and the increase was about double that in rural areas.
** Meanwhile, inflation-adjusted wages for U.S. workers dropped 1.7%.
The investment facts are even more startling:
Securities valued at more than $6 trillion trade on Chinese exchanges every day and that number is growing by leaps and bounds.
China enjoys the largest foreign capital inflows of any nation on Earth, surpassing the United States as the world's favorite place to invest.
China is now the world’s #1 mine operator ... its #1 car maker ... its #1 manufacturer ... its #1 exporter.

You really have to see China to believe what’s happening here.
I used to think New York and Beverly Hills were the world’s pinnacle for high-end shopping ...
But here in Shanghai, the Nanjing Road shopping district puts them to shame. So does the New Shanghai Shopping City here in the Pudong financial district ...
And these are only two of EIGHT massive, world-class, state-of-the-art shopping districts in this one city alone!
I once believed that Las Vegas topped the world when it came to luxury hotels and entertainment ...
But even Vegas’ biggest and best can’t hold a candle to the world’s largest hotels and casinos in Macau.

I thought that Palm Beach’s mansions and posh housing communities were the ultimate ...
But they pale in comparison to the massive luxury housing developments and neighborhoods filled with extravagant Western-style mansions here.

Any way you look at it, China is already the nation on the way UP. While sadly, the U.S. is the nation on the way OUT.

I just read a study by The Program for International Student Assessment that ranked Chinese students #1 in the world. American students were ranked fourteenth.
China’s Tianhe-1A super computer is the fastest in the world, capable of processing more than 2.5 thousand trillion calculations per second.

American technicians don’t even know how that kind of speed could be possible.
And while the U.S. is winding down its space program, China is preparing to put a man on the moon!
And when you look at China’s military, the contrast between the two nations gets downright scary:

China has THE LARGEST ARMY IN THE WORLD — 2.2 million active-duty military personnel — 600,000 more than America has.
And while the U.S. is cutting its military expenditures, China has increased military spending every year for more than 20 years ... and is still boosting it by an average of 11.8% per year.
China’s military is state-of-the-art: It just unveiled the J-20 — its first stealth fighter.

It also has spy satellites, modern battle tanks, aircraft carriers, nuclear attack submarines, cruise missiles, and more.
China’s nuclear arsenal is especially worrying: While the U.S. has been steadily reducing its stockpiles for nearly 30 years, China continues to build up its forces and is refusing to even begin talks on nuclear arms reduction.

In the size of its economy and economic growth ... in science ... in technology ... in the scholarship of its students ... in the growth of its military ... in every conceivable area, China is ALREADY the world’s most dominant nation.
More importantly: Because of China’s newfound status as the world’s #1 super power, it is now ready, willing and able to DICTATE economic policy to the rest of the world ... and that includes America.

And of course, there’s another reason why China is now in a position to dictate economic policy to the United States of America:
Nearly 50% of every dollar Washington spends today is borrowed money — much of it borrowed from China.
Without the billions Beijing loans Washington, the entire U.S. government would go bust. Washington would become a virtual ghost town. Millions of Americans who count on government checks would be financially destroyed.
So you see, the entire world — including the United States — must bow to China’s superior economic power — the greatest the world has ever seen.

And at a recent economic conference, we were treated to images of our own president doing just that.
Nobody who watched that humiliating display on television had any doubt which man has the greater power; which man is in control.
And make no mistake: the Chinese know they’re in the driver’s seat. People’s Liberation Army Senior Colonel Liu Mingfu recently said, “To save itself, to save the world, China must prepare to become the world’s helmsman.”
I can’t even begin to tell you how painful it is for me to have to tell you any of this.
Even though I live and work in Asia, I will remain an American citizen to my final breath. My mom, my sister, my brother and my three grown kids all live in the States. I want nothing but the best of everything for them and for my country.
But if my three decades as a financial analyst have taught me anything, it’s that terrible things happen when we ignore reality.
And take it from me: There WILL be terrible consequences for those who fail to act on the investment intelligence in this presentation.
But once you grasp the reality that Beijing is now in charge, you’ll find it’s quite easy to insulate yourself — and even to make a substantial sum in the process.
Because now, I have compelling evidence that China is not satisfied to merely surpass the U.S. economy; it has already begun a campaign to DOMINATE the U.S. economy.
The shocking part is that our own leaders in Washington, D.C. have become Beijing’s willing accomplices.
I know this is an outrageous assertion — but I’m about to prove it; so please hear me out ...
Because China has already begun to wage war against the dominance and value of the U.S. dollar ...
With the help of our leaders in Washington, D.C.!
I’ll explain:
For decades now, the U.S. dollar has been the world’s currency of choice. Most of the world’s central banks hold their reserves in U.S. dollars. Most international transactions have been settled in U.S. dollars.

That means there is always a high demand for dollars around the world — and as a result of that demand, the greenback has held its value more effectively than many other currencies have.
But since 2009, President Obama has spent more than $10.6 trillion, and run up trillion-dollar deficits year after year.
To fund Washington’s spending addiction, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has borrowed an estimated $4 trillion since 2009. And, Ben Bernanke — the Chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve — has created nearly $8 trillion out of thin air since 2009.

As a result, the value and the buying power of the dollar have already begun to plunge:

*Gasoline prices have shot the moon — you’re paying over 25% more than you paid just 24 months ago!
*The price for heating oil rocketed 29% in a recent 12-month period, sending home heating bills up more than 50% per month!
*Milk and cheese prices are up 18% and 15% respectively ... the price of beef and veal used in restaurants is up 17% ... coffee prices are up more than 20% ... and egg prices have soared nearly 30%!
* And everywhere you look, you see “sticker shock” on health insurance ... medicine and medical care ... college tuition ... airline tickets ... and more.

As a result of this precipitous decline in the dollar’s buying power ...
France, India and many other countries ...
The U.N., the IMF and other international organizations ...
Are ALL calling for the end of the dollar’s reign as the world’s reserve currency.
And even the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party says — and again, I quote:

“The world urgently needs to create a diversified currency and financial system and fair and just financial order that is not dependent on the United States.”

In fact, the U.S. dollar is already being abandoned by many countries and companies in favor of the Chinese currency — the yuan:

> Investors can now buy yuan-denominated bonds in Hong Kong.
> Caterpillar and McDonald’s recently financed their mainland China projects directly via yuan bond offerings instead of U.S. dollars.
> And China’s trade with Russia, Vietnam and Thailand is now being settled in yuan instead of U.S. dollars.
> Apple Computer is even accepting iTunes payments in yuan!

Now, China believes it’s time to make the supremacy of its currency — the yuan — OFFICIAL — by gutting the U.S. dollar. And our own leaders — President Obama, Treasury Secretary Geithner and Fed chief Bernanke — are obediently helping Beijing do just that!
Hard to believe? Especially in an election year? I agree! But remember: President Obama saw what a weaker dollar did for U.S. stocks in 2009: It gave birth to huge rallies! Having the stock market explode higher just before the elections would be a godsend for any incumbent president!
Look: You’ve seen the news reports of Obama, Geithner and Bernanke complaining about China’s currency. Those complaints are only growing louder now — even in this election year!
The administration claims the “weak yuan” gives China an unfair trading advantage. It makes China’s products cheaper than ours on world markets.
So they’re demanding that China increase the yuan’s value in order to level the playing field for American exporters.
But anybody with even shred of common sense can instantly see the Obama administration’s claims are pure baloney.
Look: The average U.S. worker earns nearly 6.5 TIMES MORE than his or her Chinese counterpart.
Those sky-high labor costs are cooked into every product produced in America — and that’s what makes American products far more expensive than similar Chinese-made products.
So even if Beijing DOUBLED or TRIPLED the value of the yuan, Chinese products would still sell for far less than U.S.-made products do: Boosting the yuan’s value would do little if anything to help U.S. exporters!
So why does Washington really want to jack up the value of the Chinese yuan? What’s the truth that Washington won’t tell you?

By RAISING the value of the Chinese yuan, Washington and China will automatically CRUSH the value of the U.S. dollar ...
So Washington can repay its otherwise unpayable debts with cheaper dollars!

Look: The “official” U.S. national debt is now over $15 trillion — nearly three times more than the most indebted nations in Europe ... COMBINED!
But when you add in the debts Washington owes to veterans, seniors and government pensioners, the total amount is nearly ten times more: A staggering $145 trillion.
That’s nearly TEN TIMES the total value of the goods and services the U.S. economy produces ...
That’s far more debt than Washington can ever hope to pay.
In fact, Washington’s only hope of avoiding default is to destroy the value of its own currency, then pay its debts back with dollars that are only a shadow of their former selves.
Plus, with a weak dollar and strong Chinese yuan, China can buy up even more of our debt and protect the massive investment it has already made in America by helping Washington avoid default.
That’s a massive “win-win” for both Washington and Beijing:
Plus, a rising yuan will once and for all solve Beijing’s #1 economic problem: Rising domestic inflation. As the yuan’s buying power rises, price inflation in China will decline dramatically.
More importantly, as the yuan’s purchasing power explodes, China will also be able to lock up even more of the world’s supply of oil, coal, steel, copper, lumber and other natural resources ... to take control of thousands more companies ... and to extend its economic control throughout the world.
But why lie about their intentions?
Because if they told the truth, there would be hell to pay.
Just imagine how voters would react if the president stepped before the microphones and said ...

“My fellow Americans, we politicians have spent too much money and now, we can’t pay our debts.
“The only way to avoid default is to destroy the value of your money and then repay our debt with cheaper dollars.
“Of course, that means your cost of living will double and double again and most of you will be reduced to poverty ...”

See what I mean? Telling the truth would be tantamount to political suicide.
Any way you look at it, this is treachery of the highest order: The U.S. dollar — and YOUR income, savings, investments and retirement — is being sacrificed on the altar of political expediency.
And while the insult to our national pride and patriotism will be painful, the personal toll will be excruciating.
The dollar’s demise will be catastrophic for everyone who earns, saves or invests dollars. The price you pay for food, electricity, gasoline and just about everything else will skyrocket.
Many Americans — particularly those on fixed incomes — will have to choose between buying medicine, paying the rent, or buying food.
Homelessness, hunger and hopelessness will be the everyday reality for millions of Americans.
Some will rightfully blame Washington for their misery. Others will blame Wall Street. Mass demonstrations and hunger marches will dominate the headlines.
Cities will burn.
When the dust settles, the United States will be little more than just another name on the long list of once-proud countries that squandered their wealth ... that were ultimately driven to their knees and forced to submit to the nations that took their places.
Now as I said earlier, I’m well aware that the vast majority of everyday Americans who read this presentation will simply ignore these facts.
I understand; most people are in denial. The U.S. has been number one their entire lives. They’ve always assumed that would never change.
They can’t accept the fact that we are no longer king of the hill.
I don’t take their skepticism personally. I know their eyes also glaze over when President Sarkozy of France announces that — quote: “We must rethink the financial system from scratch ...” and that it’s time to “change the rules of the game.”
They simply change channels when CNN features former British Prime Minister Brown touting “a new global financial order,” describing this as a “decisive moment” for the world.
And they choose not to even listen to Henry Kissinger — the man whose historic visits opened U.S. relations with China 41 years ago in 1971 — when he says we must accept a new global hierarchy with China in a dominant role.
Nevertheless, most people who read this presentation will probably think I’ve gone off the deep end.
But if anything I say to you today helps you protect and grow your wealth through this chaotic time, that’s a risk I’m willing to take.
After all; most folks were extremely skeptical when I warned that the bubble in internet and technology stocks would burst in 2000 ...
Just before the tech wreck wiped out $6.5 trillion of invested wealth ...
Almost nobody listened when I urged investors to buy gold for just $255 per ounce — before it soared to over $1,800 ...
Or when I predicted in June 2004, that oil would soar from $35 a barrel to well over $100 — which it did.
Or when I warned in 2007 of the stock market collapse that crushed stocks a whopping 56%.
And frankly, most folks thought I’d lost my mind in early 2009, when I publicly announced that the bear market was over — just before stocks soared over 50%. But each time, investors who heeded my forecasts — and more importantly, acted on them — had the chance to pile up substantial profits.

The number of people seeking to buy guns in Colorado has soared since last week's mass shooting in the US state's town of Aurora, say law officials.

In the three days after the shooting, applications for the background checks needed to buy a gun legally were up 43% on the previous week.
The shooting at a cinema showing the new Batman movie left 12 people dead and 58 injured - 20 remain in hospital.
The suspected gunman appeared in court for the first time on Monday.
James Holmes, 24, is accused of throwing two canisters of gas into a busy midnight showing of the Batman film The Dark Knight Rises, before firing at random into the crowd.
Prosecutors say Mr Holmes had legally bought his weapons and the thousands of rounds of ammunition he had stockpiled in his apartment, which he had booby-trapped with explosives.
Law fears According to data released by the Colorado Bureau of Investigations, 880 people applied for the state-approved background checks on Friday, 13 July, days before the shooting.

On Friday, 29 July, the day following the shooting, the number was 1,216, and on the Saturday, 1,243. In total, 2,887 people were approved to buy a gun over the weekend, an increase of 43.5% on the weekend before, said the bureau.

The bureau's figures cannot confirm how many people then bought a firearm, but gun shop owners also reported a rise in sales.
Dick Rutan, owner of Gunners Den in the Colorado town of Arvada, said sales were "off the hook".
"What they're saying is, 'they want to have a chance'," he told the Denver Post. "They want to have the ability to protect themselves and their families if they are in a situation like what happened in the movie theatre."
An employee at Mr Baker's shop, Jake Meyers, said there had been up to 20 people waiting outside when he arrived at work on the day after the shooting.
"A lot of it is people saying, 'I didn't think I needed a gun, but now I do'," the Denver Post quoted him as saying. "When it happens in your backyard, people start reassessing, 'Hey, I go to the movies'."
Brandon Baker, who owns the Rocky Mountain Guns & Ammo in the town of Park, only 15 miles (24km) from Aurora said his sales had gone up, as had requests for firearms training.
The Associated Press news agency said sales were also up in other states, including Florida, which recorded a 14% rise from the previous week, and Oregon, where July's sales were up by 11% over June. Background checks in the days after the shooting were up 10% in Florida compared with the same period last month.
Election issue Law officials said gun sales have in the past had risen after significant events, including the election of President Barack Obama and the shooting in Arizona which killed six people and injured Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in January 2011.
This is often attributed to fears that a mass killing could prompt the government to reconsider the Second Amendment to the US constitution, which gives people the right to bear arms.
A small group of Democratic lawmakers in Washington renewed calls on Tuesday to ban high-capacity gun magazines. But there is little expectation that gun control will be addressed by politicians in the run-up to November's presidential election.
Mr Holmes is due to be charged next week. The judge in his case has ruled that cameras will not be allowed into the hearing. It follows a requests to the media by some of the victims' family members that they avoid using the suspect's name and his photos.
On Monday, he appeared dazed in court, prompting speculation about his mental state.
Twenty of the people he wounded remained in hospital on Tuesday, including six in critical condition.

Spooky Told Me That He Was Working For A Redi Mix Company Called Calmat And He Was Driving A Mixer Delivering Concrete And Making Awesome Money Doing It And That I Needed To Get A Job There. The Problem Is I Dropped Out Of School To Be In A Band And Never Got My High School Diploma And To Get This Job I Needed Two Things, A GED And A Commercial License.

The Company Made A Grave Mistake Telling Me That I Can’t Have That Job. No One Tells Me That I Can’t Have Something, So Every Day After I Was Done Cleaning The Theaters I Went To GED School And Learned All That I Needed To Learn To Take The Test. About 6 Months Went By And I Took The Test And Past With A Score High Enough To Get Into ASU If I Chose To Do That.

Now I Needed To Take The CDL Test So I Got The CDL Book Studied My Arse Off And In Three Months Took The Test And Passes With A 98%

I Then Went Back To The Union Hall And Applied For The Driving Job. I Was Given An Interview There Were 12 People In That Office That Day For An Interview And They Were Only Going To Hire 2 People That Day.

And Of Course I Got The Job. I Trained For About Two Weeks Learning Everything I Needed To Learn To Drive A Mixer Safely.

I Was Put With A Driver Trainer For About 3 Weeks Then They Gave Me My Own Mixer. Now Here Is Where My Life Almost Ended. I Was Driving Down 24^th Street Heading To A Job. Ok Wait A Min Let Me Set This Up A Bit More. The Mixer I’m Driving Has What We Like To Call Balloon Tires On The Back Which Mean I Have Only Four Tire In The Back Instead Of 8. This Mixer Also Has A Hard Tail Suspension So This Truck Bounces All Over The Place When You Hit A Bump.

Ok I Was Driving Down 24^th Street And I Hit A Set Of Real Old Railroad Tracks At About 45 Miles An Hour When I Did This The Truck Began To Bounce All Over The Road Now Remember I Am Loaded With 9 Yards Of Concrete At About 3.7 To 4 Thousand Pounds A Yard. Now My Truck Is Bouncing Uncontrollably And The Truck Starts To Tip Over I’m Riding On The Driver’s Side Wheels And It Is Going To Roll Over. There Was A Median In The Middle Of The Road That Had Landscaping With Trees And Shrubs And So Forth. The Truck Is Rolling Over And Just Then The Drum Of The Truck, (This Is What Holds The Concrete) Smacks A Very Big Palm Tree And Knocks The Truck Back Strait Again. I Regain Control Of The Truck Pull Over Check My Shorts And Continued To The Job. Now I Don’t Know How It Happened But If I Was In The Right Lane This Truck Would Have Flipped Over And I Could Have Been Seriously Hurt Or Even Killed. But Luck Would Have It The Palm Tree Was Right Where I Needed It At That Moment To Knock The Truck Back Strait Again. And I Thanked The Good Lord For Putting It There.

My take on Donald trump for president.

We have an election coming up for the president of the United States and there are going to be a few candidates running but there is only one that I am interested in and that is Donald trump.

Now you may ask your self, why does this guy want Donald trump to be president? well. There are only a select few reasons for my wanting him in the presidential seat and those reasons are, and this is a one major one. This guy has a set of nuts which none of the other candidates have, and that is what we need in the office of the presidency. Donald trump is not a politician. Politicians are liars and wool pullers. He is a man of massive influence and that is for sure. This guy knows many successful business men that can get this country back on track.

Now he has said many things to date that have enraged many people and that’s for sure. One of the things he has said is that he is going to take over the Iraqi oil fields. Now we all know that in this politically correct world that we currently live it that is not going to go over well we will not be supported by any country if we do this and I don’t care. We have been called wimps and pussies for to long its time we stand up and kick some ass.

We need to get our name back, and that is my first point. Donald trump will start making all these countries that want our help to start paying for the services that we do. And that alone will start paying off our national dept. he talks about china and how they are unfairly trading with us and they laugh at us as they do it.

Donald trump has said that he will impose a 25% trading tax for china to start getting them to import more of our goods. This tax will be implemented if they do not.

This man is sick and tired of the way this country has been run and I agree. Its time to stand up, and stop kissing everybody’s ass, and become the super power that we are supposed to be.

THEN WE GO TO WORK AND FOR MOST OF US ITS NOT A VARY GOOD PAY CHECK AT ALL. SO IF AFTER ALL THE BILLS ARE PAID SOME OF US MIGHT GO OUT ON THE WEEK ENDS AND SPEND TIME WITH FAMILY AND LOVED ONES.

THEN IT’S BACK TO THE SAME OLE STORY ALL OVER AGAIN.

Early Immigration vs Current Immigration.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States , people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented.

Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their

new home.

They had waved goodbye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought alongside men whose parents had come straight over from Germany , Italy , France and Japan . None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan. They were defending the United States of America as one people.

When we liberated France , no one in those villages were looking for the French American, the German American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.

And here we are with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty, it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.

Abstract

The author that wrote this article works for onedirt.com. He discusses what makes a great driver in this article. He writes about three different drivers that all hail from Orange, CA. and the things that they have accomplished to tag them as great drivers. I am writing about one of the drivers in his article. "Robby Gordon"

WHAT MAKES A GREAT DRIVER 3

The target audience in this article is the race fan, by giving only headline news on the appointed driver chosen for this article (Robby Gordon). I think the writer could have dipped in a slightly different direction, maybe go into the past a little bit more. Dietzsch, C. onedirt.com (Robby grew up in Orange, CA. By age 8, he was racing motorbikes, and as soon as he turned 16, he jumped behind the wheel of a car. He has won in almost everything he has driven.) However, I understand why he did not when you are writing about two other drivers the information needs to be to the point. All he mentioned was all the wins; he never really touched on the names of the tracks at which he spent most of his time. In my opinion, this would have changed the direction to appease his hometown friends and family only. The author in the beginning of the story lost me for about five sentences, but picked me back up and I was entertained for the rest of the article. The author was a little bias, in the area of choosing drivers from his hometown, which in my opinion does not lay out the true great drivers. There are many great drivers in the US and abroad, that would better fit the mold of the greatest driver. There was information I would have liked to see that was not in the article. I know that this particular driver had some real bad accidents and I would have liked to read about those as well. I do not feel the author left this information out intentionally, because it was a very well written story, with the content he shared.

The language was very understandable, and it has to be because of the target audience. His sentence structure was fine. However, he did miss a few commas and semi colons.

Overall, it was a great read. He did not compare drivers much he did mention Dale Earnhardt in one paragraph; (Every race fan remembers Earnhardt's "pass in the grass.) However if he really wanted to make a great story he would have researched allot more similarities between the driver

he chose and other great drivers of the same caliber, however, the author did depict the drivers he chose very well. There was no real cause and effect, however one could say the cause is all the press those particular diver gained over the years, and the effect would be the article I'm-reading right now, because if the drivers never had all the press they have had over the years this writer would be writing about someone else.

KEEPING UP WITH TRENDS 3

Keeping up with the current trends is of the utmost importance, when

dealing with the current consumer. I have found that the modern traveler wants to

have experiences built around their personal needs. Several trends have changed

over the years but the currents trends are more of an electronic and social media

age of trends. What I mean by this, you might ask? There a many social networking

websites out today like, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and many others. Without

utilizing these resources, the hospitality and tourism industry would fail in their

attempts to succeed in attracting the current traveler. If the hospitality and

tourism industry uses the social networks properly by communicating with the

consumer on a personal platform, they will be more likely to use that particular

company for their next travel experience.

Looking at some of them on these sites, it looks as if they just make the account

and walk away, that will not work; in the current market to attract the modern

consumer. The industry has to keep a close relationship with the traveler to gain

their business. On these social networks the hospitality and tourism industry has

to keep their dealing with the consumer on the positive side or the traveler will

effect there business buy posting on these social networks the negative things that

they experienced when staying at that particular establishment. Too many of these,

will drastically affect the bottom line for that business. There was a massive

change in the way travelers booked their vacations in the start of (2007) and

(2008). Today’s traveler is very impatient they do not want to dig through tons of

brochures and search a million websites. What they want is someone or something to

provide them with easy information for the dining lodging fun things to do ECT.

Dirt track racing is the adrenaline junkies dream, as well as the ultimate test of courage.

People across the United States and abroad enjoy the sport of Dirt track racing.

As a driver of a race car there is many things to do before race day, so it stays together on the track.

When driving one of these cars you will experience many emotions.

One of those emotions is fear, but not the kind of fear you would think.

When you are sitting on the front strait waiting for the officials to let you on the track,

your stomach is in knots. When the green flag drops, every driver knows if you make it first through turn one,

you will most likely win the race. When you go into a turn, you are so close to the car next to you,

that your door if on the outside lane, is rubbing the cars door on the inside lane,

and at that time you are so close to that car; you could reach out and give him a high five.

When you enter a turn your going about sixty five to seventy miles per hour,

and on a dirt track if your tires don't have the right amount of air, your car will push,

which means it won't turn, or it could be very loose, and you will slide off the track.

When you are flying around turn four to the finish line, the feelings you get are indescribable.

I believe it would compare to waking up Christmas morning as a child.

I would have to say that I have had more fun driving a racecar, more than anything else I have ever done.

money who buys these games? I have found that the income demographic is around 27,000 –

70,000 average income of the gamer. How much time does the average gamer spend playing

video games? According to the online MBA, gamers spend more than 17

Billion hours playing Xbox live, and as much or more on the pc; this is more than 2 hours for

every person on the planet. The average age of an online gamer is, 25-44 years of age, equally

split between genders. Fantasy RPG's (Roll Playing Games) rank highest for the most

players snagging over 92% of all gamers.

Combat arms has been said to be the biggest free online FPS

(First Person Shooter) game by far. To date call of duty modern warfare 2 has had over 4.1

Million down loads since its inception on November 10 2009 with the Sims falling in second

at, 3.2 million since its release date on June 2 2009. The resources I have found, show

that aggressive behavior in children can be attributed to the repeated violence in the games they

play. With all this information, I have found that more Americans play video games, more than

any other entertainment.

Once upon a time there was an Island, where all the feelings lived; Happiness, Sadness and all the others including love.

One day it was announced to the feelings that the Island would sink, so all repaired their boats and left. Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to persevere till the last possible moment. When the Island was sinking, Love decided to ask for help.

Richness was passing by Love, in a grand boat, Love said "Richness can you take me with you?"

Richness answered "no I can't." There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat and there is no place for you here.

Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel, "Vanity please help me?"

I can't help you love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered.

Sadness was close by so Love asked for help, "Sadness let me go with you?"

"Oh......Love I am so sad I need to be by myself!" Happiness passed by Love too, but she was so happy she did not even hear when Love called her!

Suddenly there was a voice "Come Love, I will take you." It was an elder. Love felt so pleased and overjoyed that he even forgot to ask the elder her name.

When they arrived on dry land, the elder went her own way Love realizing how much he owed the elder asked Knowledge, another elder "Who helped me?"

"It was Time” Knowledge answered. "Time?" asked Love. But why did Time help me?" Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "Because only Time is capable of understanding How Great Love Is.

      I have had it with you and your administration, sir. Your conduct on your recent trip overseas has convinced me that you are not an adequate representative of the United States of America collectively or of me personally.

You are so obsessed with appeasing the Europeans and the Muslim world that you have abdicated the responsibilities of the President of the United States of America . You are responsible to the citizens of the United States . You are not responsible to the peoples of any other country on earth.

I personally resent that you go around the world apologizing for the United States telling Europeans that we are arrogant and do not care about their status in the world. Sir, what do you think the First World War and the Second World War were all about if not the consideration of the peoples of   Europe ? Are you brain dead?   What do you think the Marshall Plan was all about? Do you not understand or know the history of the 20th century?
     Where do you get off telling a Muslim country that the United States does not consider itself a Christian country? Have you not read the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution of the United States ? This country was founded on Judeo-Christian ethics and the principles governing this country, at least until you came along, come directly from this heritage.   Do you not understand this?

Your bowing to the king of Saudi Arabia is an affront to all Americans. Our President does not bow down to anyone, let alone the king of Saudi Arabia .... You didn't show Great Britain , our best and one of our oldest allies, the respect they deserve yet you bow down to the king of Saudi Arabia .. How dare you, sir! How dare you!

You can't find the time to visit the graves of our greatest generation because you don't want to offend the Germans but make time to visit a mosque in    Turkey ...... You offended our dead and every veteran when you give the Germans more respect than the people who saved the German people from themselves. What's the matter with you? I am convinced that you and the members of your administration have the historical and intellectual depth of a mud puddle and should be ashamed of yourselves, all of you.

You are so self-righteously offended by the big bankers and the American automobile manufacturers yet do nothing about the real thieves in this situation, Mr. Dodd, Mr. Frank, Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelic, the Fannie Mae bonuses, and the Freddie Mac bonuses. What do you intend to do about them? Anything? I seriously doubt it.

What about the U.S. House members passing out $9.1 million in bonuses to their staff members on top of the $2.5 million in automatic pay raises that lawmakers gave themselves? I understand the average House aide got a 17% bonus. I took a 5% cut in my pay to save jobs with my employer. You haven't said anything about that. Who authorized that? I surely didn't!

Executives at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be receiving $210 million in bonuses over an eighteen-month period, that's $45 million more than the AIG bonuses. In fact, Fannie and Freddie executives have already been awarded $51 million not a bad take. Who authorized that and why haven't you expressed your outrage at this group who are largely responsible for the economic mess we have right now?

I resent that you take me and my fellow citizens as brain-dead and not caring about what you idiots do. We are watching what you are doing and we are getting increasingly fed up with all of you.

I also want you to know that I personally find just about everything you do and say to be offensive to every one of my sensibilities. I promise you that I will work tirelessly to see that you do not get a chance to spend two terms destroying my beautiful country.      Sincerely,

Authorities said half of Manila had been hit by flooding

Flooding caused by torrential rain has paralyzed parts of the Philippine capital, forcing tens of thousands to flee their homes and closing schools, offices and the stock exchange.

Casualties have been reported, with a number of people buried in a landslide in Manila and reports of other deaths elsewhere.

Officials said that water was up to waist and neck levels in some areas.

More than 50 people died after Typhoon Saola struck over a week ago.

Widespread flooding has been reported in the capital and the surrounding provinces, according to a statement from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

It said "the south-west monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm 'Haikui' located 300km [184 miles] north-east of Taiwan" was expected to bring more rain.

"Expect landslides/flash-floods in mountainous areas and floods in low-lying areas."

President Benigno Aquino met civil defense officials to discuss the situation. "Everybody who is supposed to do something is doing what he is supposed to do," he said.

The severity of the rain since Monday afternoon - in an already saturated city - has led officials to issue the highest level of alert, says the BBC's Kate McGeown in Manila.

For many Manila residents, these rains will be a reminder of the deadly floods caused by Typhoon Ketsana in 2009, which killed more than 400 people, our correspondent adds.

Casualties

Local media said several members of one family had been killed or were missing after a landslide hit shanty houses in Quezon City in Manila.

A local police official was quoted as saying four people had drowned in a province close to Manila, but this has not been confirmed.

Weather officials warn that the floods could get worse as the overflowing La Mesa dam, which holds back Manila's main reservoir, spills more water.

"If we put it in a percentage, at least 50% of Metro Manila is flooded," Jean Navarez, from the state weather service, was quoted by AFP as saying.

Residents living in slums and shanty-towns on low ground have taken shelter in community buildings, reports said.

Several key roads were impassable and power had also been cut in some areas, mostly as a precaution, officials said.

Dams and waterways in affected areas are also being closely monitored. Rescue efforts are now underway to help stranded residents.

"As of now, it's difficult to rescue the trapped residents, as we are battling strong currents with our life crafts," police rescuer Eric Baran told Reuters news agency.
