This half term we are learning all about plants! We have been re-capping our Y1 knowledge of the parts of a plant and we have also started an experiment to see what conditions plants need in order to grow the best. We are really enjoying it! At the end of the half term we will be writing some advice for others on how to look after a garden. Could you find out what plants you have at home? Maybe you could draw your plant and explain how you look after it?

This week we have been doing lots of 'popping back' to previous learning and we have enjoyed building our knowledge. At home we would love you to ask us for a number in between two numbers of your choice or explain how many tens and ones are in your number in order for us to guess.

We also want to continue building our knowledge on our 2,3,5 and 10 times tables and would love for you to help us at home!

Yesterday was Earth Day and the whole school celebrated the Earth! We learnt all about our carbon footprint and discussed what commitments we could make to help the Earth. You might spot some of these on our window!

This week in Maths we have been finding fractions of amounts and of shapes. Could you have a go at this at home? Maybe you could show how to cut things into thirds, halves and quarters? What equivalent fractions can you find?

On Friday in P.E we learnt how to send and receive a ball with our feet. Previously we had used our hands but we are now working towards passing, stopping the ball with our feet and passing back. Some of us found this tricky but we realised if we keep a close eye on the ball it is much easier. We also worked on passing and then moving to make sure that our team mates could pass the ball easily to us! Can you have a go at this at home?

Good Morning! We have had a super busy but super fantastic first week back all together in Turquoise Class. We have been learning to sew, acting out The Twits story so far, learning more about The Amazon and doing lots of mindfulness. We have particularly enjoyed acting out different feelings this week and doing Mighty Minds with Mrs Gage too! It is so lovely to all be back together! Keep up the hard work Turquoise Class.

Home and school learning

Good Morning!

We have had a fantastic first three weeks of learning at both school and at home. Myself and Mrs Gage are so proud of you all.

We have received pictures of super learning through our class email and are really enjoying hearing about how work is going at home. We have also really enjoyed seeing the children in school try hard with their learning and we know they miss their friends very much!

Everything you need for each day is on Google Classroom along with some other useful bits and bobs. If you want to do anything extra, 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables, key word spellings and reading are all great things to be keeping up with.

Keep up the hard work Turquoise class.

Hi Turquoise Class,

Oh we have had a busy week in Turquoise! We have been calender making, card making, Christmas bauble making, singing at the local care home and performing our Christmas showcase for our lovely families! We hope you enjoyed it.

For the past couple of weeks we have been learning all about money! We have loved looking at all the different coins, ordering them by value and discussing how to make different amounts with mixed coins. Today we are even learning how to give change by making our very own shop! Can you have a go at this at home with your families?

Wow! What a busy but amazing day we have had! Thank you for all of your efforts in helping your children to dress up as their word. All of the children's costumes were absolutely fantastic and they could all tell us exactly what their chosen word meant. They really have learnt lots of new vocabulary today! Please check book bags for a list of all of the children's words and their definitions. We hope the children can now use them in their writing! Can you guess the word that each of us are dressed up as in these pictures?

On Fridays we usually change our library books and get a new one to bring home and read. We also share our homework with the class. I have seen some fantastic homework in the children's yellow books, whether it be weekly spellings, sentence writing, Maths or foundation subject learning and I have been really impressed! After speaking to some parents at the consultations, I thought it would be a good idea to share this half term's homework via the blog as I understand it may have slipped out of homework books or been misplaced. These grids will be stuck into the children's homework books each half term and will outline the homework expectations for that half term. Thank you for all your support. I look forward to seeing even more fantastic home learning!

Polar Bears

In English this half term we will be writing all about polar bears. We received a letter to say that one had one missing from the Yorkshire Wildlife park and then we saw it's footprints and fur in our classroom!

We have been learning lots of facts so that we have enough to write a fact file about the missing polar bear. Can you do even more research at home? Can you learn powerful WOW words to use in your writing to make it even more impressive?

This week in Maths we have been adding and subtracting a two digit number and ones. To help us we draw our tens and ones. A ten is drawn as a stick and a one is drawn as a dot. Could you re-cap this at home? To add we simply draw more tens or ones and to subtract we cross them out. If we do not have enough ones to cross out, we must 'exchange' a ten by crossing it out and drawing ten more ones.

In Turquoise class we love Music and have been enjoying learning the harvest songs this half term. We have also been attending a weekly virtual music lesson with Kate. The harvest songs we have been learning are called 'Harvest Samba' and 'It's Harvest time'. Can you perform these at home?
