The “Cigno” is inspired by elements found on some of the most artfully designed guitars of yesterday. However, the Hanson Cigno is no pawn-shop-prize knock off. Aesthetically its retro shape recalls the Italian side of the late 50’s early 60’s electric guitar revolution. However, that is where the similarities stop. Utilizing a solid Mahogany body and set-neck design (the gold standard for complex sustaining tone), the “Cigno” has a familiar feel and form factor. The neck shape is all “early 60s ‘paul” but with a re-enforced volute for strength. Rosewood fingerboard and pearl “block” inlays are standard on the “Cigno.” The back painted gold “plexi” pick guard is another cool retro touch.

TonePros licensed adjust-o-matic fixed bridge with fat posts holds rock solid and allows for individual string intonation adjustments.

More Info	Nattokendro's much acclaimed production "AROJ CHARITAMMRITO" will be staged on Wednesday, the 19th of October, 2011 @ 7:00 pm. It is the first show since the 50th staging of the play in July. Venue: Experimental Theatre Auditorium, Shilpakala Academy. The play is based on the life of Aroj Ali Matubbar, the first philosopher of Bangladesh. Aroj Ali Matubbar was born in Barisal in the year 1900. He is absolutely a self-taught ph ilosopher, and his belief was that there was only one truth, and that is the truth which can be proved by science. His philosophy and beliefs has caused many problems in his life, and he was almost outcasted by the religious clergyman. Yet, he stands tall in the end, his head held high, rigidly holding on to what is true. The play is written by Masum Reza, and directed by Tariq Anam Khan. The play has been performed in Egypt and India, and has been praised by the foreign audience. It is a very heart warming, colorful, and magical production. Please come and enjoy the show. Dhaka hosts World Music Festival 2011

The story that Dhaka World Music Fest 2011 weaved, sounds like this – in an epic stage of sound and lights feauring artistes of mammoth proportions, audiences felt peace explode in the form of music that was heard beyond Bangladesh.

As I arrived at one of the practice sessions before the two-day festival, I got an amazing education as to how the genre of world music sounds. The band on stage was jamming Esho Dekhi Kanar Haatbajar. I have heard this song plenty of times before, but this time it was utterly different. The heavy energy of the music had much to do with the improvised sounds of foreign instruments along with sounds of local instruments. It was like the world saluting our folk culture in their own style.

This unbelievable energy I speak of cultivated as Close Up star Rinku was on the mic with Nazrul and Shofik on dhol, Jahangir Alam playing the bashi, Jillur Rahman on the trumpet, Alom playing ektara, Ataur playing mondira, Kishon Kan on piano, Tansay Omar on drums, Oreste Noda playing conga, Javier Camilo on bongo, Jimmy Martinez playing bass, and Phil Dawson was on guitars. Sahan Satis and Yukini Hagio were the creative sound engineers that blew away my mind.

These members are all part of the bands and artistes Shahjahan Munshi, Rob Fokir, Baby Akhtar, Shumel, Motimba, Lalon, Lokkhi Terra, Dele Sosimi, Tunde Jegede, Ajob, Soothsayers and Porobashi.

Celebrating International World Mother Language through the global language of music, the first-ever Dhaka World Music Fest 2011 was held from February 4 to 5 at Sultana Kamal Mohila Krira Complex in Dhanmondi, ushering in an era of international music to this cosmopolitan city. The festival brought the eclectic grooves and hypnotic rhythms of Cuban-funk, Afro-beat, Bauls of Bengal, Reggae, Pala and Bangla-Afro-Latin fusion together in a melting pot of organic sounds and earthly vibrations.

The sound created by these musicians defined world music all over again. This jamming was so intoxicating that one could follow Alice into Wonderland while on their journey of musical madness.

This was just a practice session at an apartment with no acoustics so one can imagine what happened on-stage and at the venue. When the lights flooded the stage, the music flooded the audiences with peace, by far the best sound produced in Bangladesh at a live concert.

And the audiences just felt that when Soothsayers took the stage. Their organic mix of reggae, Afro funk, urban jazz, dub grooves mixed in a whirlpool of emotions sent ripples of trippy effects. They were one of the best and made the crowd realise why Soothsayers, led by Bangladeshi-British saxophonist Idris Rahman and trumpeter Robin Hopcraft, along with the intoxicating vocals of Julia Biel, kicked up a live storm and are hailed in the UK as one of the hippest bands.

One of the vocalists, Sohini Alam, of Lokkhi Terra said, “This is one of the greatest initiatives for Bangla folk and for our country. The bands which performed at this enormous two-day gig are big names in the UK. They are such huge names that we pay to see them live just to be musically motivated.”

Another musician from the troupe Justin Thurgur, who plays trombone for Lokkhi Terra, Motimba and Dele Sosimi, felt ecstatic about playing in Bangladesh for the third time. He was wearing a t-shirt sporting images of peace and had the loudest grin, “I have been working with Kishon for the past 15 years and it feels different playing here in Dhaka. The culture and the folk music is so rich and beautiful that we can communicate with each other with this universal language and the language which speaks about peace and nothing but peace.”

The festival’s vision was conceptualised and spearheaded by Runi Khan of Culturepot Global,UK, to secure a sustainable place for Bangladesh’s musical heritage in the global cultural arena. According to the organisers, it opens up a meaningful two-way musical dialogue between Bangladesh and the world at large. They wish to create an annual international music platform to present the rich variety of Bangladesh’s indigenous & traditional musical styles to the world.

One of the organisers of this magnificent event Mikhail Islam said, “The great cities in the world have a tradition of holding music festivals and since Dhaka is becoming a mega city, it is high time that we have such events. I think Kishon Khan worked here as a great catalyst bringing all these bands here since he collaborates with most of them in the UK which fantastically complements the whole idea of a world music fest.”

The festival has been organised and curated by Culturepot Global,UK, Excalibur Entertainment, JatrikTravels and Symbiance Partners, Bangladesh and sponsored by Grameenphone.

The venue was decorated and boasted an ambience which elevated the psyche of the crowd and orchestrated a fusion of peace, love and understanding. With the juice bars in the back and brilliant live music, this gig will certainly be one of the biggest events of 2011.

Emon Saha Success Story in A R Rahman’s Music Conservatory

Emon Saha, son of Satya Shaha, legendary Music Director in Bangladesh is featured in the ‘Success Story’ in A. R. Rahman’s music conservatory’s site recently.

Emon Saha did a course from A. R. Rahman’s ‘K. M. Music conservatory’ in 2009-2010 on western classical music. Out of all the students in last 4 years, Emon is the first and only person who’s story is featured in this section. He is very happy and on this occasion he said ‘After getting this honor, lots of students, classmates and friends from all over the world congratulated me, I am overwhelmed by this and cant express my feelings.’

Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh passes away

Renowned ghazal singer Jagjit Singh, 70, passed away at 8.10 am in Lilavati Hospital on Monday morning. 70-year-old Singh was admitted to the hospital on September 23 and was in ICU since then. ”Jagjit Singh passed away at 8.10 am after having a terrible hemorrhage,” said Dr Sudhir Nandgaonkar, hospital spokesperson.

Jagjit Singh was born in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. He had four sisters and two brothers and he is known as Jeet by his family.

Popularly known as “The Ghazal King”, he gained acclaim together with his wife in the 1970s and 1980s, as the first ever successful duo act (husband-wife) in the history of recorded Indian music.

Singh is survived by wife Chitra Singh.

L.R.B. is going to perform in Australia and New Zealand

L.R.B. (Love Runs Blind), one of the famous Bangladeshi rock bands, turned 20 on 5 April, 2011. To celebrate its 20th anniversary,the Bangladeshi community from Australia and New Zealand are arranging concerts where L.R.B. will perform live in front of the audiences.

While speaking about LRB’s 20-year long journey, Ayub Bachchu recalls, “How time is passing so quickly. Yes, it has been a long journey of LRB. And this journey could be called a journey of ups and downs, of joys and sorrows and of pains and happiness. Thanks to almighty Allah that we are still together as a family. After spending 20 years with a great success, LRB is looking forward to presenting a new album to the music-lovers.” Bachchu informs, “After 2008, we have not released any new album as we want to present some wonderful songs to our fans. At the moment we are working on our latest album. We have prepared 35 songs from which 10 or 12 will be selected for the album. We will release the album very soon.”

The concerts will take place in Sydney and in Melbourne on 23rd and 31st October respectively. The last show of the tour will be on November 6 in Auckland, New Zealand. This is the first time any Bangladeshi band are going to perform in New Zealand. ‘This is a great honor and pleasure for us that Bangladeshi community are arranging the shows, we are over joyed and we want to give them a great performance’ as Bachchu says. L.R.B. is going to leave Bangladesh on 20th October and will be back on the day before Eid.

Soulja Boy Charged With Felony Drug And Gun Possession in Georgia

That" rapper Soulja Boy and four others have been charged with felony possession after a stop for a traffic violation Tuesday morning in Temple, GA turned up a "substantial amount" of marijuana and guns, Billboard.com has confirmed.

The 21-year old star (real name DeAndre Cortez Way) was in a Cadillac Escalade with four other men when police pulled them over around 3:15 AM about 20 miles east of the Alabama state line. Temple Police spokesperson Dana Rampy told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that there was a "substantial amount" of marijuana, cash and guns in the vehicle.

"It was a lot of marijuana," Rampy said without giving an exact amount. "All of the individuals were very cooperative."

Rampy denied a TMZ report that the men had "roughly 70,000 DOllar in cash and drugs" in the vehicle. "I don't know where they got that," she told us. It remains unclear how many guns were in the car or whether they were properly registered to the occupants.

His arrest unfortunately coincides with the release on Tuesday of his"Soulja Boy: The Movie" DVD. A few hours before he was locked up, the rapper told his 3-plus million Twitter followers, "Today is gonna be busy and huge very historical lots of interviews to be done."

Metallica Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Bridge School Concerts

We are very proud to have participated twice in Neil and Pegi Young's annual concerts to benefit the Bridge School and now highlights from the first 24 years of those shows will be available on DVD and CD on October 24, the day after the 25th anniversary shows take place. Our small contribution is the acoustic (!) version of "Disposable Heroes" from the 2007 shows and we are honored to be included with a stellar line-up including Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith, Pearl Jam, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, The Who, Tom Petty and many, many others.

The Bridge School was founded by the Youngs and is a non-profit organization educating children with severe speech and physical impairments using alternative communication systems and technology. All profits from the release of this DVD and CD will go to the school and if you're in the Bay Area be sure to check out the annual Bridge School benefit concerts held in Mountain View, CA on October 22 and 23 of this year.
