1. Tell us something about yourself.

This is the first question, you can expect during any interview you face. This usually is a question to start the communication and set the ball rolling for the interview. You can answer this question by providing some information about your work experience, technologies you have worked upon, educational qualifications. If you are a fresh graduate, you can provide some information about your family also.
The trick is to put the full stop at the right place to provoke the next question you want. For e.g. “Recently I developed a website using Drupal. It was quite an interesting but challenging job which I enjoyed.”

2. Why do you consider yourself a suitable candidate for this position?

The answer to this question lies in the preparation you did before the interview. It is extremely important that you research the requirements of the position well and match them with your skills.

For e.g. if the position requires an Asp.net developer with good knowledge of health care domain, tell the interviewer about your technical skills and your domain knowledge.
Fresh graduates can talk about their technical skills, ability to learn and grasp things quickly.

3. Why do you want to leave your present job or company?

You may want to leave your present job for any reason but make sure that you do not talk bad about your manager, company or job. It reflects your complaining attitude.
Provide a sincere reason for e.g. “I think, I have grown up with my last employer as much as I could. I want to grow further and I believe that is possible with a new employer.”

4. You have stayed in your current job for quite a long time, why?

There are many people who do not change their jobs for years and when they go out looking for a new employer, this is one of the most important questions they are asked. Some people might look upon staying with the same employer for long as “lack of ambition”.
A good answer to this question can be something like, “Yes, you are right. I stayed with my last employer for almost 5 years but I was continuously growing in the company, doing new things, handling bigger challenges. So, I was quite happy working with them for these many years.” You can then talk about how you grew with your last employer.

5. What do you know about us?

Research the company and its business a bit before appearing for the interview. Also, find out a bit about the technologies they work upon. You don’t need to know everything inside out but having a fair idea about the company makes you appear interested in the position, to be taken seriously.

For e.g. I see that your company does a lot of projects based on OpenSource platforms like Joomla, Drupal, Magento which is quite interesting as I have a similar kind of experience.

6. What do you do to improve your knowledge?

The field of IT is very revolutionary. It is extremely important to keep yourself abreast with the new technological developments and this needs you to take some time out of your work schedule so that you can keep sharpening your saw.
To answer this question, you can tell the recruiter about the forums which you keep visiting, blogs which you keep reading. It will be an advantage if you are a member of some local user group.

7. Can you perform under pressure?

Most of the times, the job of software development is that of working under pressure. Sometimes, it will be the pressure of delivering on time while it can be that of a bug that has sprung all of a sudden in your code.
So, expect pressure in everything you do. It is important to maintain your performance and develop strategies to deliver under pressure. You can then go ahead an talk about your way of dealing with pressure and performing under it.

8. Tell us some of your strengths.

Again, it is important to study the requirements of the position before you appear for the interview. List out your strengths and offer the ones that this role demands.
For e.g. if you are appearing for the position of a Tech Lead – VB.net, talk about your VB.net skills, any extra knowledge which you have about coding with VB.net in comparison to other candidates, your team management skills etc.

9. Tell us some of your weaknesses.

You have to be careful while answering this question. Do not offer a weakness which will directly affect your selection but at the same time saying that you do not have any weakness will not be right too. Every human being has weaknesses, so it is perfectly OK for you to have some too.
The best way to answer this question will be to turn one of your strengths as a weakness and say that others accuse you of having this weakness but you think it is important to work in this manner. For e.g.: “My colleagues accuse me of paying to much attention to syntaxes but I believe it is important when you are writing the code to avoid spending too much time on finding and fixing the bugs later on.”
Another way to answer this question is to offer a totally un-related weakness for e.g. “I have been staying alone for so many years now but I still can’t cook independently.”

10. Are you comfortable working in a team?

The whole work of software development or IT is a team work. So, the only answer to this question can be: “Yes, I am comfortable working in a team.” If you have any problems in working as a team, it is important to work on them and develop yourself as a team player.

11. How do you rate your communication skills?

Again, IT is about dealing with people within and out of the company. So, it is important to have good communication skills. By good communication skills we mean, ability to understand and explain in a common language. So, if you believe that your communication skills are weaker, you need to work on them.
Anything less than average or good is not acceptable here.

12. You do not have all the experience we need for this position?

It is not possible for a candidate to have all the experience an employer requires. Even if you match yourself up to the expectations on technical front, there will be some difference in the work environment. And, it is absolutely fine.
The best way to deal with this question is to analyse the requirements of the position well and match your skills as close to them as possible. If something is still left untouched, offer your quick grasping power and ability to learn quickly as a solution & back it up with an example from the past.

13. How would you compensate for the lack of experience you have for this position?

As we discussed in the last question, your ability to understand and pick up new things quickly should be able to compensate for the lack of work experience you have.

14. If you were hiring for this position, what qualities would you look for in a potential candidate?

Closely understand the qualities and skills a person holding the position would need and match them with the qualities you have.
If you believe that you are missing a big quality required for the position under discussion, say that, “I understand that this is an important quality required in the person holding this position but given a chance, I will inculcate it in me.” Back it up with a confident body language.

15. Do you know anyone who works for us?

Offer some one’s name if they really know you well and can offer a positive feedback about you.

16. What is your style of management?

In today’s scenario, everything needs customization, so here also, one size can’t fit all i.e. one management style won’t work in all situations. So, offer “situational” as your style of management.

17. Have you ever fired anyone? How would you go about firing a person, if required?

The basic purpose of asking this question is to check your EQ and see if you have the guts to make tough decisions. If you have fired anyone in the past, discuss your experience and approach. If you have never done so in the past, discuss the approach you would take to make and implement such a decision. Keep the focus of your answer on the fact that you would try to do your best to ensure that your team performs to its best but if a particular member is not able to perform even after you taking all the steps to help him, you would make the tough decision to ensure that the project doesn’t suffer.

18. What irritates you about co-workers?

The purpose of this question is to see how well you can fit into a team. Basically, you should not have a problem with a person, although you can have a problem with the style of working.
So, to answer this question you can simply say, “I understand that IT is about team work, so we can’t afford to problems with co-workers but if someone is not serious about their work or does a low quality work affecting the whole project, I definitely do not like it”

19. Is there any particular kind of person you can not work with?

For the reason given in the above questions, the answer to this question should be a “No”. This is basically a different way of putting up the last question.

20. What qualities would you look for in your senior?

You can mention some generic qualities like intelligence, good sense of humour, dedicated to his team etc., which all the managers think that they have in abundance.

21. What motivates you at work?

To answer this question, you can mention things like – new challenges, good environment which all employers think that they offer.

22. Will you be happy to work in night shifts or over the weekends?

You need to answer this question taking into consideration what is suitable for you. Say that you can work in the night shifts, only if you can really do it.

23. Have you ever committed a mistake at work?

To err is human. So, it is perfectly OK if you committed a mistake at work but before answering the question analyse the magnitude of mistake you did and the effect it had on the company.
What is more important is – what did you do to rectify the mistake and make sure that you don’t do it again?
So, mention the mistake you committed and keep the focus of the answer on the steps you took to rectify it.

24. What position would you prefer while working on a project?

This question is for you to answer based on the skills and qualities you have. If you have the capability to handle different positions, discuss that also in the interview.

25. What are the most important things for you as a manager?

The two things which should be most important for a manager to succeed in his role are:
a.) His team should be happy and keep performing
b.) The project he is working on with his team is successfully finished with minimum problems.

26. Will you be happy to re-locate, if required?

Again, a question for you to answer based on your position. If you are anticipating this question in the interview, it is better to discuss this with your family also before you go to face the interview.

27. What kind of a salary are you looking for?

Try to put the ball back in interviewer’s court by asking him about the salary they offer for a position like this. Most of the big companies will have a fixed remuneration for each level.
However, if this is negotiable, you will have more negotiation power if you have some work experience. So, know your lower limit (amount below which you can’t go) and also know the maximum salary in the industry for the position then put forward a figure which is not very exact. It is better to mention a range. For e.g. if you are expecting something around 55 K, say that you expect something in mid fifties. Don’t keep the range to broad otherwise you will be offered something towards the lower end.
If you are a fresher, most of the times you will have to accept the company’s offering for the position. However, if you find it too less, you can definitely discuss that during the interview.

28. Do you have any questions for us?

This is usually the last question you can expect during an interview. It is extremely important to have some intelligent questions to ask the interviewer otherwise you may just sound dull and un-interested. Research the company a bit and discuss if they have been in news recently. You can also discuss about the growth prospects for you within the company etc.

In this article I would like to discuss a few points which will enable the reader to be a good corporate trainer.

Knowledge of the subject: A good amount of reading is required to speak on a subject. The subject should be well assimilated before delivering a talk on it. Being well-versed with the subject contributes to 80% of the confidence level of the speaker.

Confidence: Confidence comes only if one has put in the right effort. Then there is nothing to fear. One should be sincere enough to put in the right effort.

A pleasant and calm personality: Even a trainer in technical topics should do a good amount of philosophical reading to have a pleasant, calm and composed personality. When one speaks, one creates an atmosphere around him/her. If the mind is calm, an atmosphere of calmness is created around. Hence the learning process is speedened up. The positiveness gathered from good and inspiring thoughts of the philosophers, is transmitted to the listeners, even if the trainer is speaking on technical topics. The speech of a trainer equipped with positive thoughts is much more powerful.

Good amount of listening and reading: The trainer will teach others, but who will teach the trainer? One should not miss an opportunity to listen to technical webcasts, online sessions, recorded sessions, live lectures on the topics related to one's training. One should constantly read books from reputed authors to understand the subject to the fullest. This enables a trainer to enrich his/her storehouse of knowledge.

Many a time listening to a sermon from a genuine spiritual Guru, priest enables a trainer to inculcate positiveness, sweetness and simplicity in speech. One is sometimes marvelled to see how Bhagavad Kathakars (pundits who expound the Bhagavad Scripture), keep the public listening to them for 6 hours i.e. 9 am to 12 noon and 3 pm to 6 pm. They have a good amount of stability in their posture and are very slow, calm and composed. Similar qualities are required even in corporate training.

Joy of learning and imparting knowledge: A trainer has to be full of enthusiasm and should happily learn new things and happily impart the knowledge. It is better to be less calculative while imparting knowledge. Once the mind starts calculating the returns; enthusiasm drops down.

Complete Absorption while teaching: While taking a class one should be completely absorbed in the subject. Let the subject rule the class atmosphere.

Personal life: A trainer's personal life should be on peaceful terms with everyone.

Intimacy with the audience: Stage fear can be overcome, by realising the fact that the people who are listening to us are after all human beings like us. Why should one human being get scared of another just because one is a speaker and the other is a listener? Once we start looking upon the participants as human beings and not as managers, CEOS; stage fear will vanish. Whatever be the high level standards in the style of the managers and CEOS and Software engineers who are attending the training, they are all after all human beings.

While teaching maximum justice should be done to the topic. The subject should be well respected by the trainer and attendees.

Politeness: Never insult a student/participant or attendee of the training. A person who is listening to you with faith should not be insulted in anyway. Be polite with all of them and convey your point.

Simplicity: The corporate world is regarded as a complex world. The best way of dealing with complexity, is to be simple. It is better to have simple examples to highlight a particular concept. The language should be simple and grammatically correct.

Use of slides and whiteboard marker: Slides enable a trainer to control the flow of the session and also enable the topic delivery on time. But a certain amount of gap is created between the trainer and the participants if slides are extensively used.

The use of a whiteboard marker is a very effective way of training. The trainer's state of mind is reflected when he/she draws or writes on the board. A trainer who knows how to efficiently use the marker/chalk, creates a lasting impression on the mind of the training attendees.

Dress code: The trainer's dress code should be such that it doesn't distract the listeners.

Clarity: Before leaving the platform, ensure that there is clarity in thought. Do not leave the audience in a confused state with a question mark before exiting the stage/classroom.

10 Things You Should NEVER Say to Your Boss

We all have bad days at work. Sometimes it reflects on the things we say to our coworkers and superiors. What you say tells a lot about you as a professional and creates impressions that could hunt you for years.
Getting a pink slip because your boss didn’t like something you said is something that will probably not happen to you on the spot. However, one careless phrase may adversely affect your entire career, especially if it creates a long lasting impression of you. Subconsciously, your boss may pass you for a promotion or let you go during layoffs simply because of the impression they got years ago due to something you said in the past. People have good memory when it comes to impressions. Chances are, you boss wouldn’t even remember exactly what you said but they are sure to remember what they have thought of it!

The following are some of the things you can say that can put at risk your career:

1. “Why do I need to do this? This is stupid!”
Don’t ever say this to your boss! This questions their authority and their judgment about something that they believe has to be done. It belittles your boss and the entire enterprise. If your boss has asked you to do it, they must think it is important enough. By saying this you openly challenge their competency as a boss. Not a very smart move!

2. “That’s not in my job description”
The weaker players are the first ones to get pink slips. In this economy, companies keep employers who can wear many hats, even if it is not technically in their job description, and who don’t complain about it. If your boss thinks you are unwilling or incapable to do what you’ve been asked, you will be considered a weak player.

3. “It is not my fault”
Your boss doesn’t really care whose fault it is. Most of the time they just want the problem fixed. When you say it is not your fault, you sound as if you don’t want to fix the problem, or worse: that you are trying to cover up your mistake by pointing fingers at someone else. This behavior tells to your boss that you are not only unreliable, but that you can’t be trusted.

4. “This is not my problem”
If your boss has brought it up – it is your problem. Moreover, a problem at work is everyone’s problem. Saying this just shows that you don’t care and that you are not a very good team player. Ultimately, getting things done at is the manager’s responsibility and saying it is not your problem automatically turns it into your boss’ problem.

5. “I don’t know how to do it”
You may actually not know how to do something but it is all about how you say it. Saying “I just don’t know” shows a weakness and it also may be interpreted as an excuse that you just don’t want to do it. Tell your boss that you are prepared to do the task but that you may require assistance or guidance because you haven’t done it before. Ask them if they or someone else can provide it to you.

6. “I am overqualified for this”
Maybe you are, maybe you are not. However, you are at work and instead of playing a big shot, you should just roll up your sleeves and get the work done. Do it yourself or delegate it to someone else – but get it done! This is what your boss expects of you and anything less will show them that you are actually not qualified to get things done (kind of the opposite of the message you were trying to get across).

7. “It is impossible to do”
When you say this, it does not sound like it is actually impossible, it sounds like: “I don’t know how to do it” or “I don’t want to do it”. Either way, if someone else ends up doing this task and they manage to do it, what you said will make you look like an incompetent idiot. This could be an irreversible mistake so don’t say it unless you are ready to bet your professionalism on it.

8. “I don’t get paid enough to do this job”
With the current rate of unemployment, there are millions of people who don’t get paid at all. They will be glad to have your job. This is exactly what your boss will think of the situation. Enough said.

9. “I will try”
Your boss doesn’t want you to try it; they want you to do it. Trying is not an option, you either do it or you don’t. Saying “I will try” will tell your boss that they cannot depend on you. It will not give them the assurance they need that the task will be taken care of.

10. “I don’t have time for this”
Translates into “I don’t want to do this”. If you are over your capacity, just tell your boss that it may conflict with other work and talk to them about prioritizing tasks.
The bottom line: your boss wants to hear solutions. They don’t want to hear complaints or see you pass the puck. When you do too much of it, you make their life more difficult. Your boss still needs to get work done so they will either have to do it themselves or find someone else to do it. In which case, they don’t see much value in you and you are out!

Some helpful hints:

Introduce yourself clearly and directly. Engage in some "small talk" at the start of the interview, just as you would in a one-on-one interview.

Have your resume and the job advertisement with you for reference, and a pencil and some paper to make notes.

Speak clearly into the receiver and modulate your voice. Your voice is the only way you have of showing eagerness, enthusiasm and zest for the job. Your voice reveals both your personality and your attitude toward the caller. Don't forget to smile! It makes a big difference in a conversation, even on the telephone.

Some students find that it helps to dress for a telephone interview as you would for a face-to-face interview – it often helps to psychologically prepare you for this form of business “meeting”.

No matter how or where your interview is conducted, you should still have the same goal: to communicate to the interviewer that you are the best candidate for the position for which you are being interviewed. If the interview has been scheduled in advance, you should prepare as carefully as you would for a formal “sit down” in someone’s office.

Eliminate any distractions from your immediate environment (desk toys, newspaper clippings, your shopping list). Dress professionally and maintain good posture. The one bonus to a telephone interview is that you can prearrange notes to prompt you and to keep you on track, but only if you can refer to them unobtrusively. You do not want the person on the other end of the line to hear you shuffling papers in the background!

[INFO] India Fast Losing BPO Jobs To Philippines

New Delhi: For about a decade, it was India's call centre boom, that defined it as the 'world's back office', much like neighboring China, which has been immortalized as the 'world's factory.' However the situation seems to be changing, as Philippines is fast taking over India's back office supremacy, with BPO service providers and customers seeming to favor this country as a better place for 'voice-related' work, reports Economic Times.

"India has lost tens of thousands of jobs to the Philippines. The caliber of English is better and companies don't have to put up with the mess (that exists in India) there," says Pramod Bhasin, President and CEO of Genpact.

Some of the major hassles that India poses, include arranging transport for employees, security, power back-up in offices, and basic infrastructure that firms can take for granted in the Philippines. The country has become a preferred destination, especially with the U.S. companies, many of which are more comfortable with the English accent spoken there. U.S. customers account for over 50 percent of the global outsourcing business.

Ananda Mukherji, MD and CEO of BPO provider Firstsource Solutions, says that costs are more or less similar in both countries. This means the accent proficiency in the Philippines tips the scales in its favor.

According to the Economic Times, many of the Philippines' advantages are due to the U.S. rule, which bequeathed the English language to that country with its distinct accent along with a robust telecom and broadband network laid out by the U.S. defense forces.

Prabhakar Bisen, Head of the Philippines operations of WNS says, "Apart from affinity to the U.S. culture and English-speaking skills, the country's time zone advantages make the Philippines a natural choice for providing 24x7 service to global companies, particularly those based in the U.S."

Genpact, Wipro BPO, Intelenet, Aegis BPO and Firstsource are all ramping up their operations in Philippines. Genpact has about 2,000 employees there and expects to scale up operations by 40-50 percent in the next 12 months. Firstsource has about 500 staff in Manila, while WNS has increased staffing to 1,100 from 200 in the past 18 months, providing a mix of voice and back-office services for telecom, consumer products, travel and financial services clients.

In the past 12 months, Wipro BPO has set up a 1,000 seat centre in the Philippines' Cebu City, with staff there engaged in telecom, healthcare, energy and utilities-related tasks.

Ø The interview usually will start one of two ways—the client will ask you an open ended question for example, "So, tell me about your most recent project or so the looks of your resume looks like you have over 10 years of Java experience." OR the hiring manager will inform you right in the beginning about the project –in any case LISTEN—you have to have effective listening skills---you need to be looking and hearing the "driving directions" otherwise tell yourself it doesn't make sense getting in the car if you don't know where you are going.

Ø Need to find out from the hiring manager what type of candidate he/she is looking for and what is the project all about-what are they trying to do (these are the driving directions)

Ø Bring the interview into a conversation (not a ping pong interview). You can ask questions throughout the interview not just at the end

When Answering Questions Be aware Of The Following:
Ø Do not babble (repeat yourself or continue to talk about nonsense) and over talk, do not overpower the conversation

Ø Do not "beat around the bush" this is not giving direct answers to the hiring manager's questions
Ø Do not just skim the surface (Give detail and examples of where you used a particular technology) in your answers either—it's a fine line you need to walk and talk not being too light and not over-talking.

Ø If you simply don't the answer do not try and fake it—simply say, "Manager's name, I have not had the opportunity to work with that tool, but I have no problem facing challenges and I am a quick learner."

Ø If you are asked about a specific technology and you have not used that tool but something similar or a competing tool explain what you have done with that similar tool.

Ø Or simply say that you have never used it but that you know what it is used for – NEVER WING IT.

Ø Revert back to your resume at all times for example: "Have you worked with MQ Series?"—Your Answer: "Yes in deed, while I was at XYZ Company I worked extensively with MQ doing etc. etc. etc.

Ø Take the interview into a conversation – use manager's names to establish a relationship.

Ø If in the beginning of the interview if the hiring manager is asking you to repeat your answers or you're asking the hiring manager to repeat the question that should be a red flag that communication is a problem and you need to change it up.

Ø Try and match the speed and tone of the hiring manager's voice.
Ø Take the lead on discussion with hiring managers

Ø Periodically particularly in the beginning of the interview after you answer a question, go right back to the hiring manager and ask him/her---
Ø"Do you need me to expand on that answer or expand on any particular part of that answer-I want to ensure I am giving you what you are looking for…"

ØAt this point of the interview you are confirming you are DRIVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. You don't want to end an interview and then try and get confirmation… "oh by the way did I drive in the right direction?" and if you didn't the answer is going to be NO. Use the phrase "Am I driving in the right direction?" If the client is looking for an apple you need to make sure you are giving apples and not sitting there throughout the interview talking abut bananas.

Ø Make sure you try to parallel the tone and how fast or slow the hiring manager is speaking—if the hiring manager is talking fast they may get frustrated with a candidate that talks very slow.

Ø Be direct and to the point on client's expectations.
Ø When asked an open ended question, make sure you give an open ended answer back.

Ø A close ended question is "how many days are their in a week?" answer is direct and only one answer can be given 7------a open ended question could go like: "So, by looking at your resume it looks like you have worked for many years with Java"----if you just answer yes to an open ended question that is WRONG----WHEN ASKED a open ended question you need to give a open ended answer back; it is rude if you don't! When talking about previous assignments, use "I" instead of "we".

Ø Give thorough answers and defend your answer.
Ø Use the whiteboard if applicable.

Ø The manager will indicate that the interview is coming to an end. If you have a burning question, go ahead and ask it but be respectful of the manager's time.

Ø Do not assume that you got the job-Do not make comments like "I look forward to working with you…" the hiring manager has not offered the job to you why are saying its going to be great working with them????

Gartner surveyed about 900 CIOs in March and April this year to gauge thepotential impact of macroeconomic concerns on IT budgets. In the first quarterof 2009, the CIOs had experienced significant IT budget revisions as executivesgained a greater understanding and solidified plans for addressing the globalfinancial crisis.

"Renegotiating vendor contracts and head count reductions were the primaryfocus areas for accommodating budget reductions. CIOs said more work would beshifted to in-house resources and delayed capital expenditure more thanreducing IT project investments," Gartner EXP Group vice president andResearch Head Mark McDonald said.

The survey said that the largest dip in IT budget was in professionalservices-- telecommunications and technology at 10 per cent, manufacturing at 8per cent, both utilities and financial services at 4 per cent.

INTERVIEW PREPARATION:

You have been granted an interview because your qualifications are exactly what the company is looking for. Congratulations! What’s next? Preparing, research and practice!

Now is the time to start your research on the company. Be thorough and learn everything that you can about the company. Most of the relevant information you need to arm yourself is going to be easily accessed on the internet, business journals or in newspaper articles.

The job description you are applying for should also be researched. The information you need to find is a Base salary and job requirements. These facts will help you later in determining your pay if you should be offered the job in a second interview. Remember not to bring up pay during your first interview. Avoid setting a figure that you might later regret. In the same manner, putting down a low figure and then changing it during negotiations would portray you as being greedy.

Of course you can’t anticipate every question that will be asked, but practicing some general questions will help you gain the confidence you need for the real interview. Do not be surprised if the interviewer should ask you a question they do not expect you to be able to answer. If this happens to you be honest. Say that you do not know the answer but you would like to give an educated guess. This will impress the interviewer. Review your answers to the practice questions and critic yourself, or ask a friend for feedback. Interviewing is a learned skill and the more you practice the better you will become.

Make sure your resume is up to date and free of typing errors. There is nothing worse than having an outdated resume with spelling errors. Bring extra copies of your resume and be prepared to explain everything that is listed.

Part of the preparation of interviewing is deciding on what to wear. Call the company and tell them that you are coming in for an interview and you would like to know what the office policy is for attire. Business attire is always the most professional, even if the office attire is casual. You always want to dress one step above what is expected. Dress to impress! Make sure your clothing is clean and pressed and you shoes are shined.

Nothing breaks a business outfit like a dirty, dusty pair of shoes.

Find out where the interview will take place. Once you know this information do a trial run to see how much time it takes to arrive. This will be very important information so that you arrive on time. It is not good to show up late for an interview. It could either show that you are inconsiderate of the interviewers time or that you did not care enough to find out ahead of time.

Imagine that today is the interview day. See yourself driving to the location, parking and entering the building. Make sure that you arrive in plenty of time to give yourself a last minute head to toe check. Smile and proceed to the reception desk. Greet the receptionist with all due respect. After all, this is the first person you will have contact with and their opinion might well be factored in the hiring process.

Now you have been asked to enter the interview room. Remember to greet your interviewer with a smile and a firm handshake. Make eye contact but don’t stare into their eyes. You don’t want to given them reason to feel uneasy. The most important thing to remember during your interview is to breathe! It will not only relax you, but it will calm your speech pattern. If you are nervous, your breathing will be shallow and you will sound like you just ran a mile to the interview.

Remember all the important techniques you practiced before? Now is the time to implement them into the meeting. Don’t be overly friendly with the interviewer. This is not a social event; it is about business.
Make sure you remember to get business cards from everyone you will come in contact with on the interview day.

Most interviewers will give out their business cards but if they do not, request one. This will serve two purposes. It will give you the name, address and phone number for sending a thank you note after the interview. Secondly, it will give you the person to contact so you can follow up on the interview process.
Be positive and enthusiastic. Make sure you sell yourself without exaggerating. This is your moment to shine and prove that you are the most viable candidate for the job opening.

1) What is an object?
An object is an entity, which consist of attributes, behaviors and qualities that describe the object.

2) What is a class?
A class represents a collection of attributes and behaviors of object. It is the class from which individual objects created.

3) What is OOAD?
    OOAD stands for Object Oriented analysis and design. It is a methodology use to analyze, design and develop applications. It visualizes the class and the objects.

4) What are the advantages of OOAD?
    * Reusability
    * Maintainability
    * Increase the performance of the system.

5) What is Data Abstraction?
    It is a process of listing the essential features, without implementation details. Data abstraction is nothing but the extraction of the information which is required and ignoring the other information.

6) What is Data Encapsulation?
    Data encapsulation or data hiding is a function that keeps the implementation details hidden to the user. The user of the application is allowed to perform only limited task with the class members that are hidden.

7) What is the difference between data abstraction and information hiding?
    Abstraction mainly focus on the outside view of the object whereas encapsulation prevents the user from seeing the inside view where the properties and behavior of the abstraction is implemented.

8) Why is java not 100% pure OOPS language?
    Java doesn’t support 100% pure OOPS concept, since it support primitive datatype like int, long, byte etc, these are not objects.

9) Qualities for a program to be 100% OOPS language?
     Encapsulation/Data Hiding
     1. Polymorphism
     2. All predefined types are objects
     3. Inheritance
     4. Operations performed through messages to objects
     5. Abstraction

10) What is early binding?
    Early binding or static type or static binding is assigning the value of the variable during design phase. Early binding instruct the compiler to allocate space and perform other task before the application starts executing.

11) What are the disadvantages of threads?
   * The main disadvantage of using thread is that it is operating system dependent. It require to follow CPU cycle that various from system to system.

12) Why is java case sensitive?
    Java is platform independent language. It is widely used for developing code which contains different variables and hence java is case sensitive.

13) What is singleton class?
     A class which can create a single object at a time is called class. The object is accessible by the java virtual machine. It creates a single instance for the class

14) Objects are passed by value or by reference?
     In java objects are passed by value. Since, the object reference value is passed both the original and the copied parameter will refer to the same object.

15) What is serialization?
     It is a method which saves the object state by converting to byte stream.

16) What is externalizable interface?
     Externalizable interface controls the serialization mechanism. It consist of two methods readexternal and writeexternal. It helps to customize the serialization process.

17) What are the different types of inner classes?
    * Member classes.
    * Anonymous classes.
    * Nested top-level classes.
    * Local classes.

18) What are wrapper classes?
Wrapper class represents a base class for the data source. It allows the primitive datatype to be accessed as objects.

19) What are the different ways to handle exception?
     * By placing the desired code in the try block and allow the catch block to catch the exception.
     * Desired exception can be placed in throw clause.

20) Is it necessary that each try block must be followed by a catch block?
      It is not essential that try block should be followed by catch block.

21) What is the difference between instanceof() and isInstance()?
      instanceof() is used to see whether the object can be typecast without making use of the exception.
      isInstance() is to check whether the specified object is compatible with the class that represent the object.

22) How can you achieve multiple inheritance in java?
      Multiple inheritance in java implemented in similar to the C++ with one difference the inherited interface should be abstract.

23) What is the difference between == and equals methods?
     ‘==’ is used to check whether two numbers are equal
     ‘Equals’ is used to check whether two strings are equal.

24) What are java beans?
     Java bean is a platform independent and portable. It helps to develop code that is possible to run in any environment.

25) What is RMI?
RMI stands for remote method invocation; it enables the developer to create application based on java, in which the java objects are invoked by java virtual machine.
