Listen. I know it has been a while since I have posted here!

I have been going back and forth between "do I just let this part go"

or "do I try to incorporate the transition of REELS into my blog"

I have decided to ATTEMPT to Incorporate.

I don't know how well this will work.

Or if it will be a fruitless effort; but I figured I have been doing this for this long.

I might as well try.

So I will periodically add any of my DIY reels into the blog where you can click on the pic with the attached link and see all the transformations.

I will eventually try to add product information to each of the pictures here but we will see if anyone has any interest in the old style anymore first.

As always, Thank you to all my BEAUTIES for always hanging around and encouraging me.

As usual I am a late bloomer with all this stuff; and that is OK.

I can't believe how long it has been since I have written a post.

The Holiday's have come and gone and I've been working on projects;

but documenting them and then editing and posting them seem to have gotten away from me.

I have about 20 furniture posts I need to write, but as usual I will maybe write up 2 if I am lucky :)

Also being the type of person I am I was totally distracted by another project that had been on my mind for a while and on a whim decided to tackle that instead.

You see the runner in the above picture.

When I painted my mural which you can see

I knew that the runner didn't really go well with it,

but I was ok with it because I knew it was on my mental list to replace.

It had been almost 10 years and it was starting to break down and we were always "retacking" it back down where the fabric had moved and stretched.

So, last Saturday Morning we decided to rip it up

with no replacement rug in site.

I know how both of our brains work and we needed to the

MOTIVATION of it being bare to kick us in the rear and keep us on task.

After searching and searching I couldn't find anything I liked.

You used to be able to go to Home stores and find multiple different rolls of different style runners that you could buy by the foot.

Apparently in the last 10 years that seems to have stopped.

Now all the stores around us had ONE style and color and they were all the same at every single store.

The style was not to my taste at all and I started to worry we would be bare stepped for quite a while.

As we were driving I finally had the epiphany to use runner throw rugs and cut them to fit.

I got mine at a local store for $19 each but you can find tons of other choices online.

I have linked some HERE and we ended up purchasing 6 just to make sure we had enough after cutting.

As I said before I wanted it to match the colors of the Mural I had painted in my hallway. You can see that post HERE ->DIY marushka inspired vintage mountain wall art mural

and the runners I found matched perfectly.

They had that vintage Persian inspired rug feel without paying a ton of money.

Now if you read the old stair runner post you will see we rented a crown stapler from the local home store to put down the runner.

This time again knowing our personalities and the amount of other things we had going on at the time we decided to purchase

a crown nailer.

We didn't want to have to worry about working on a timeline

and getting grumpy with each other as we would have to work within a few hours and rush it.

We purchase the Ryobi 18v narrow crown stapler from the local store

because I already have multiple batteries and chargers for all my other Ryobi tools and this would just be added to my arsenal for my other projects.

I have to say also, this is not an ad but that this baby didn't misfire one single time.

We have rented these types of tools before and usually you have a few misfires where the nail or staple doesn't go all the way in or some other issue but this baby worked perfectly.

Now, FINALLY onto the steps.

When we ripped off the old rug, we decided the bottom two steps needed to be restained and refinished.

This house is old and every other runner we have put up were the same size so the fact that the bottom two steps had issues never mattered.

It was always covered.

These runners were just a bit narrower so we knew we needed to fix those steps.

I hand sanded them since I didn't want a huge mess and used the same stain ratio as we used originally way back over 20 years ago when we had refinished the floors and steps the very first time.

I hand applied the stain and the finish and waited for it to dry.

While that was drying I retouched up all the Risers, Stringers and Balusters with the original paint.

After a few days we could finally lay down the runners.

Some things we had remembered from before was to use

painters tape as a guideline to keep your rug straight and not end up getting off center when you lay it down.

This time we even used Double sided carpet tape to help hold the rug in place before tacking it down.

Since its a vintage style rug it is made to look like it has slight imperfections. We didn't want that to throw us off as we were looking at it while trying to keep it straight.

Also because they were separate rugs and not one solid piece this helped us make sure we didn't move slightly up one side or another.

Another issue was the border on the rug.

We didn't want to just staple border to border.

We wanted the pattern to continue on;

so when we would get to the end of one runner ( we would always make sure it ended on the riser and trim it there so it was easier to transition without disrupting the pattern)

we would use a straight edge, a very sharp blade and my very sharp scissors to cut a straight edge.

We would then staple under the lip of the tread and continue on from there with a seamless transition.

I have to say, I am in love with how it looks now.

When I wake up in the morning and walk downstairs,

this is the first thing I see,
(if I ignore the laundry hamper at the top of the stairs...which as a rule...I always do LOL! )

The colors of the mural and the runner make my heart smile,

and in these days, its much appreciated. :)

Vintage Desk and Chair Makeover using Custom Blue General Finishes Milk Paint

Boy has it been a while!

I have still been working on furniture like crazy,

just haven't done a good job of writing up blog posts about them.

Yesterday I was going through some google photos when I saw this desk makeover in my stash of photos and realized I better write something up about it since I had completely forgotten I had even done it! :)

It shouldn't be a surprise though. I had the desk and chair in my garage for 3 YEARS!

It was out of sight, out of mind, kinda like this makeover. :)

anywhoo..........on with the makeover.

I think one of the reasons I waited so long was because even though most of the desk was in great shape, It was a very outdated orange stain and had some DEEP grooves in the top that I knew would take some work to get out.

It was at that point I decided to pull out my handy dandy

Ryobi Belt sander.

It made short work of those deep gouges.

After I was done sanding I hand sanded it with some higher grit sandpaper to make it shiny smooth and wiped it down to prep it for some stain.

Since I had an idea of the color for the base I knew I wanted to go with a darker top.

I picked up my Varathane wood stain in dark walnut and got to work.

After it was dry I just used some satin wipe on poly I had in my garage to seal it.

Now it was time for the fun part.

Mixing up a custom color.

I decided to go with a favorite and picked

General Finishes Milk Paint in Twilight and Westminster Green.

I have used this combo before as you can see HERE

I just loved the richness of the custom color!

While the paint was drying on the desk I gave the vintage hardware a makeover with a couple coats of my Rustoleum farmhouse gold paint.

Would you look at how great it turned out!
The chair got painted the same color and I just quickly recovered the seat with some fabric I had in my stash!

I am happy to say the reason I had forgotten to write about the desk was that as soon as I brought it into my booth it went back out the door to get a new lease on life in someone elses home.

I doubt this desk and chair will be forgotten about now that it was made beautiful again!

Pretty in Pink Vintage Dresser Makeover

How the heck have you been?

We have been navigating these crazy times and just trying to

adjust our sails on a daily basis.

Thankfully a few days ago the weather cooled a bit and I was able to knock out some projects.

I haven't spent a lot of time this summer writing up posts because honestly, just surviving seems to be enough of an accomplishment on its own.

But I still love a good makeover and hopefully you do too!

So let's get going.

I picked up this vintage little cutie at the thrift shop for a steal.

I loved that it was in really great shape and only needed a little bit of loving.

It was plain but I knew a little paint would perk it right up.

I got to work on lightly sanding the whole thing down.

Then I wiped it down with warm water.

I wanted to make sure the paint properly adhered.

Once I had that done I picked my paint.

I chose General Finishes Milk Paint in Ballet Pink.

Now if you know me I am NOT a big PINK person, but this color is so subtle I just love it for giving a piece some quiet color.

You may remember the cute little GOSSIP BENCH I did in that color. You can see that HERE.

So I got to work painting the dresser.

While it was drying I grabbed some old hardware and gave it a clean.

Once it was clean I gave it a couple coats of Rustoleaum Copper metallic spray paint.

Once that was finished and the paint had dried on the dresser I had decided that it needed just a little subtle POP of something to liven up the flat and plain front.

I grabbed my Deco art Winter Wreath stencil and some White General Finishes Milk paint and painted on this simple wreath.

I love that it added something simple but made the front a bit less plain.

I am also happy to say that it sold pretty quickly.

This plain ole piece is now livin its best life in a new home.

Well, hopefully I will get more in the habit of writing up more posts,

but the way this year is going,

Antique Victorian Dresser Makeover using Milk Paint

Sorry its been so long.

I have been working on plenty of stuff, just out of practice for taking enough pics to make a blog post!

In fact on this one I didn't take a full BEFORE picture because I was so excited to get started.

I had already cleaned the drawer fronts and added new hardware before I even started to take pics.

You can see from the one I have that the base of this vintage dresser was in sad sad shape.

The drawers were o.k.; they just needed some cleaning and loving.

But it was missing all the hardware minus the keyhole covers.

I had purchased these cup pulls a while back and was saving them.

I wanted something shiny to go with the dresser makeover so I removed the keyhole covers and the new hardware and cleaned them all and got ready to paint them.

I knew I was going to go with some rich paint color so I wanted a rose gold to accent the piece.

I picked Rustoleums Rose gold spray paint and gave them two coats.

While the hardware was drying I gave the base a good scuffing and sanding and wiped it all down.

Once that was done I could start coating the base.

I picked General Finishes Milk paint in Westminster green to play off the vintage style of the piece.

Look at how great the rose gold plays off the dark wood and deep green paint!

I love it and for a second thought about where I could put it in my house, but then I remembered I already have too many dressers :)

So there you have it.

One of the many makeovers I have been working on the last few months!

I was looking through some other makeovers and was shocked to see that there was still snow on the ground in some of them.

I am not ready to look at snow again for a while, so I will do those posts LATER!

DIY VINTAGE BRICK WALL DECOR -QUARANTINE CRAFT EDITION

How the heck have you been?

I have been keeping busy and trying to be somewhat productive during quarantine, but some days I am more productive than others.

Actually, seems like some MONTHS I am more productive than others :)

If you remember it took me quite a while into quarantine to really start accomplishing any real projects.

You can see my DIY Mountain Wall Mural

and read all about that lack of motivation there.

But once I did that I slowly started to work on more things.

I did a piece of furniture for my booth for when we can reopen and

I started working on smalls.

While I was working on those I started wondering what I could do with my old Vintage Brick artwork I had made

seen below.

We had changed up our Den and I had taken the dark brick wall art that I had made down.

I made them from Brick Paneling and stencils to look similar to my art studio that you can see below.

But I wanted to change out the dark brick on the artwork

before I added my transfers.

So I grabbed my General Finishes Seagull Gray Milk Paint

and covered up the old stencil art and lightened the brick.

When it was dry I decided on which transfer I wanted to use.

I picked the Vintage Seed transfer by Redesign with Prima .

I cut out which one I wanted and placed it on the brick.

I followed the instruction and rubbed on the transfer.

After I rubbed it on I lightly sanded it to distress it and the brick.

To seal it I used my Spar Urethane to seal it.

When it was dry I put the frame back on and now its ready for the booth when we open.

I just love the vintage advertisements and how easy it was to do this project.

Now I am trying to figure out what else I can put my transfers on.

DIY MARUSHKA INSPIRED Mountain Wall Mural Quarantine Edition!

What a WILD ride this last few weeks has been!

I have to admit that at the beginning of the Covid 19

Stay at home orders, I had GRAND PLANS of creating all kinds of wonderful works and organizing and cleaning.......

Funny, right??? ... I am guessing if you all are like me, those plans were just that.....
PLANS!!

You see I am used to being around my Family; a lot!

My husband is home in the summer and so are my kids,

but its usually WARM out and we can do things OUTSIDE..

This was not the case.

This was more like winter break.

Lots of eating..not knowing what day it is

and not getting out of our pajamas.

My husband luckily was a bit more motivated than me.

You see since he is a Teacher he normally paints in the summers......for OTHER people.

I usually paint our home.

Since he was home he decided to paint all the rooms in the home that I hadn't painted in 15 years.

I had picked up the paint before all this and since we had it he decided to paint our hallway stairway and upstairs hallway.

He finished all that and I was left with a blank wall.

I sit and see this wall every morning while I am in my chair and drink my coffee; and

after 2 weeks of staring at the plain blank wall, my Artist brain FINALLY got motivated.

If you have been following me for any amount of time,

you know how much I love the mountains. We do big family mountain hiking trips every summer.

Missing those mountains finally gave me the motivation I needed to create something that would really be a time capsule dedicated to this crazy time.

Being a child born in the 70s

I have had some strong influences.

One of them a local artist who created

what we from Michigan lovingly refer to as

MARUSHKAs!

It was a style of silk screen graphic prints by a local teacher/artist named Richard Sweet

that were pretty much on everyone's wall growing up.

I decided the wall mural I painted was going to be along those lines.

Simple but BOLD.

I needed a perfect circle to start and after trying to figure out how to maybe do it with a compass and a string and a pencil I looked into my kitchen and saw my little bistro table.

My husband kindly unscrewed the top so I could use it to draw my most perfect circle and focal point for the painting.

After I had that I could start hand drawing my mountains.

I took a pencil to the freshly painted walls and sketched out my design.

Since I couldn't run out and get whatever supplies I needed I decided to go through all of my paints in the house and use those old color theory lessons and mix up the custom colors I wanted.

Then I could finally get to work.

Funny how once I finally drew on the wall the painting was not scary.

(I know it was weird that drawing on the wall scared me more than putting permanent paint down)

I got to work painting, sometimes mixing the color right on the wall until I got the right tone I wanted.

Once I had it the color I wanted I filled it all in and gave it 2 coats and some touch ups.

I left some dry brushing on the sun/moon to give it depth and texture.

It was nice to have a distraction from the outside world

while I spent 2 days working on this mural.

One of my favorite things now is being greeted by my Mural as I walk down the stairs in the morning.

It brings a smile to my face as I start my day.

Plus this is my view now when I sit and drink my coffee every morning! I get to see my mountains even when I am stuck inside.

I hope this has brought a little bit of happiness and fun to your day.

Honestly...this was the scariest part!

At this point I hadn't put jeans on in 4 weeks...or makeup...

or done my hair.

I already don't like to be photographed as it is, but decided to be a little brave and get my picture taken...(Again as a time capsule sort of deal)

I am glad I have this now since most likely its gonna be another 4 weeks before I do any of those things again :)

Vintage dresser makeover using Fern Transfers and General Finishes Milk Paint

I am so excited to to show my latest makeover.

I was working on a couple pieces and got totally inspired and finally started on this beat up old dresser I have had for 6 months just sitting in the garage waiting for some love.

It was obviously an old little girls dresser.

It had the old school transfers from way back when I was a kid and they had been scratched off in a bunch of spots and the dresser had tons of gunk stuck to the top and the sides.

I knew I would need my handy dandy Ryobi Cordless sander to make short work of the old transfers and all the gunk that was stuck all over it.

I sanded the whole thing down and then cleaned it with some warm soap and water and let it dry.

Once it was ready I chose to use General Finishes Milk Paint in Alabaster. I liked the white color of the dresser but I wanted to give it a clean but vintage white feel. I painted on two coats and then when it was dry I got to work on the rest of the transformation.

I had some left over FERN TRANSFERS

from a previous project which you can see HERE

So I decided I would use the rest of it up on this piece.

I slowly placed the pieces where I wanted them and rubbed them on. When I felt it looked right I rubbed it all down with a cloth to burnish it even more.

Then I used some spray matte finish to seal the piece.

I love how it turned out.

I added the crystal knobs to finish off its modern makeover.

I picked the clear knobs so it wouldn't take away from all the fun of the fern transfer.

Its hard to believe its the same piece.

Its also hard to believe I got to photograph this outside without freezing my rear off!

Heres hoping Spring is on the way.

Classic Campaign Dresser Makeover

I am back with another makeover.

I am happy to say that this one just sold so I figured I should

write it up before I forgot about it.

I picked up this classic style Campaign dresser at Goodwill

for a great price and couldn't say no.

It was a beast and just needed a little love.

From the front it looks great but the sides and the top had big scratches and missing stain.

I decided since the drawer fronts were in great condition I would keep those "as is" and just work on the base of the dresser.

I took out all the drawers and sanded down the base.

I wiped it all down and got to work.

The hardware also needed some TLC.

It had these weird blotches where the finish had worn off so I decided to remove those as well and fix them up.

I gently removed the corner brackets and the hardware and scrubbed them down. Then I gave a quick shot of some Rustoleum Metallic gold spray paint.

While the hardware was drying I could get to work on the base of the dresser.

I decided to go with General Finishes Driftwood Milk paint since it played off the gold brown of the drawer fronts.

I gave it two coats.

While it was drying I put the dried hardware back on the drawers.

Once the whole thing was dry, I could put the corner brackets back on as well.

Look how much better that hardware looks!

I love these kinds of pieces that don't need a ton of work to give them a fresh new update.

I am also happy to know that it's enjoying its new life in someone's home.

Coastal Blue Vintage Waterfall Dresser Makeover

I didn't think I would be back so quick but the cold weather has me not wanting to leave the house, so I figured I would work some old pieces I did.

Its funny because not only did it take me a long to time to write this post, it took me a long time to work on this dresser.

I am pretty sure it sat in my garage for at least a year.

I bought it at a thrift store because I loved the veneer.

Its that paper thin stuff so I knew I couldn't touch it with sandpaper or it would disappear so I had to work out how I was going to still show it off.

The top was pretty gouged up and heavily stained so I knew I had to paint it.

I lightly sanded the parts I was going to paint and wiped them all down real well and went to my paints to decide on a color.

I decided to go with General Finishes Coastal Blue Milk Paint because I loved how it played with the wood tone that I would be keeping.

Here you can see how it looked with just one coat on. I had decided to just really clean up the top drawer that had the most interesting grain and use paint on the rest to showcase that part.

It had the original hardware which I just clean up and put back on.

And here it is in its Coastal Blue Beauty!

I loved how the original hardware played off the dark blue and the wood tone of the top drawer.

(I also want to know how much I miss seeing GREEN GRASS;

I was for sure not made for winter) :)

This was a hard piece to bring into the booth because I wanted to keep it, but really had no place for it.

Vintage Gossip Bench given a sweet and simple makeover

I hope the New Year finds you well.

Its hard to believe its almost the middle of January already.

(I never say that, normally January feels about 120 days long)

But I have been busy and that seems to make the days go faster.

I worked on this makeover before Christmas but just now am getting around to posting about it.

I have about 20 more of those kinds of posts too.

Funny how time gets away from you.

But anyway, lets get on with the makeover.

I was strolling through the thrift shop one day when I saw this cute little gossip bench.

Now it was covered in dust and dirt but the shape of it was just too cute to pass up.

So I dragged it up to the cashier and loaded it in my car.

I had no idea what I wanted to do with it yet,

but figured inspiration would strike once I got it home.

And it did!

I had been wanting to try out General Finishes Milk Paints new color "Ballet Pink" and figured this was as good as any project.

It would keep that girly feel but not overly girly.

To give it a fun little punch I used my thrifted striped fabric that I had used on my Paul Mccobb MCM chairs HERE

You can see it looks better already just with the fabric change.

I made sure I sanded down the bench really well to get off any residues that might be on it, and then used a warm rag to wipe it all down and let it dry before painting.

Then when she was ready I gave her two coats of the Ballet Pink paint.

And here she is all back together again and looking as pretty as can be!

I love how it played with the fun little details on the back of the bench and how the fabric kept it more updated and the pale pink paint kept it feeling vintage.

Updating a Mid Century Modern Dresser using General Finishes Milk Paint

I hope you are all doing well.

We have had a busy holiday season so far with lots of furniture selling at the booth, so I haven't had a lot of time to post.

But I thought I would quick jump on the computer to show you a piece that just recently went to its new home.

I picked up this great MCM dresser for a deal because of the damage to the side and the pulls.

That didn't scare me though. I loved the design of the piece, but my brain just had to figure out how I was gonna update it but keep its vintage charm.

The side had damage that was stained into the veneer. No amount of sanding would remove it.

Plus it was textured and that would just wouldn't work.

It was not quite a blonde style dresser but had almost a white wash feel to it, so I decided that was how I was gonna work with it.

The top was laminate and in perfect condition so I decided I would work along those colors.

I decided to go with General Finishes Reverent Gray because it went so well with the top and the finish on the drawer fronts.

I scrubbed the whole dresser and wiped it down real well and got started.

After giving the base 2 coats and letting them dry it was time to start on the hardware to see how I could keep the damaged pieces. I decided I would leave the drawer fronts unpainted but paint the pulls.

But that meant removing all the metal inlays.

I learned this trick years ago. I just took a screwdriver and popped them out.

This way I could sand all the pulls and paint them with the reverent gray and not have to worry about getting paint on the metal.

Since I had all the metal pieces out I decided to give them a clean up and freshen up with some farmhouse gold spray paint.

Once everything was dried and cured I could put it all back together. Getting the metal strips in was the hardest part of the whole project. You can't just pop them back in you have to glide them into the groves. So I grabbed my rubber mallet and tapped them back where the belong.

Then it all went back together.

You can see how the paint on the hardware and the sides really made that vintage finish show through on the drawer fronts.

It freshened it up, but still kept that MCM feel.

Now it is being used again and being enjoyed.

Westminster Green Vintage Long dresser Makeover

I am excited to be back with another makeover!

I spotted this baby at the local thrift store and ran right up to it.

It was price really cheap since it was missing most of the hardware and was pretty beat up, but I didn't let that stop me.

It was solid wood and I knew it wouldn't take much to bring it back to a beautiful piece of furniture.

I looked through my stash to see if I had extra hardware in this style but I didn't.

This age of piece the replacement hardware gets a bit expensive so I decided to just fill the extra holes and use knobs instead which would cost way less than pulls.

So I filled the extra with wood filler and let it set.

While that was setting I grabbed my Ryobi Cordless sander and took the beat up old finish off the top of the dresser.

Once I got the finish off and wiped the whole thing down with tack cloth I could put on my finish.

I decided to go with General finishes Gel stain in Mahogany.

It gave a nice rich finish to the top.

Once it was dry I used General finishes top coat in Satin to protect it.

I mean, look at that grain! The stain really made it POP!

Once the top had cured and I had sanded the base down and wiped it down I could start on painting it.

I wanted to use a color that would work with the warm rich top so I picked General finishes in Westminster Green!

Look how much better those drawers look!
I decided to accent them with some copper knobs!

I think you will agree it all worked together!

I love that I was able to save a piece that others had passed over!

It took a little work, but I think it was worth it!

Another Empire Strikes Back...the Saga of the Empire Style Lowboy dresser makeover.

How the heck have you all been?
I have been working like crazy on smalls for the booth trying to keep up with the holidays.
Luckily when the weather was nicer I was able to work on a bunch of furniture projects to show you.
This makeover started in a galaxy far far away....
just kidding..it started in my garage. :)

you would have seen in my stories the SAGA of me scoring this beauty at a thrift store and having to get it into my husbands hatchback :)
I always know if I bring the little car, I will find a big piece of furniture.
It had seen better days but it was structurally perfect and such a cool piece.
Once I got it home I got to work.

The top had seen the worst of the wear. But since I knew I was going to paint it, I knew I just needed to scuff it up and clean it to prep it. I used my Ryobi cordless sander to rough up the parts I was going to paint.
Then I wiped it all down and got to work.

Since once drawer had already been refinished and was in great shape I decided to keep that one as it was and just accent the rest of the piece using General Finishes Milk Paint in Queenstown Gray.
I found some old hardware in my stash and just gave it a couple coats of gold spray paint and they were good to go.

Then it was time to put it all back together.
I think you will agree the deep gray and the gold played so nicely with the wood tones in the large bottom drawer.

This Empire dresser definitely struck back with its curved legs and sleek appearance.

I am really happy I was able to get this piece home and give it a new lease on life.

RESCUED ANTIQUE SIDEBOARD MAKEOVER

Finally I made it back with this post I promised a while back.

You may remember a few weeks ago (maybe a month??? :) )

a friend of mine texted and said he was cleaning out a house he was going to be doing some construction on and didn't want to see this beauty go into the dump.

I of course instantly told my husband to empty out the truck so I would be able to go pick it up and we were there within a few hours to grab it.

It needed a LOT of work, but when I am saving a free rescued piece I don't seem to mind.

I feel like its been through so much, it deserves to finally get some attention.

So the first thing I did as you can see was to peel off what was left of the veneer on top.

It took a little elbow grease and my scraper but I made short work of it.

Once all the veneer was off I could get to sanding.

I used my Ryobi sander and a few different grit sandpaper and smoothed out the whole top to prep it for stain.

After it was sanded I wiped it down with some tack cloths and got to work on staining.

Since I was going to go with a rich color for the base of the cabinet I wanted a deep dark tone for the top.

So I used Minwax Dark Walnut.

When it was dry I just used some wipe on poly to seal it.

Now the fun part.

After lightly sanding and cleaning the whole base cabinet and securing all loose doors and things

I used General finishes milk paint in Westminster Green

and Twilight, (in a 1/1-ish ratio)to give an awesome dark greenish blue.

(I kept the legs dark and just cleaned them up with some Restore a finish)

While the paint was drying I just grabbed some vintage hardware and gave it a couple coats of Rustoleum copper spray paint to play off the blue green color.

And there she is!!
Can you even believe this is that same piece.

She just needed a little tender lovin care and a lot of elbow grease!

I just love how that green blue played off the copper hardware and the dark wood!

Wild Heart Gypsy Soul VIntage Dressing Table Makeover

I seem to be on a roll with working on projects that have been taking up space in my garage for a long time.

This is another one of those.

I bought this vintage dressing table from Goodwill last year for only a few bucks. A few days later I found this cute little stool and then they both sat for a very long time.

After working on those last few projects that sat for years in my garage I seemed to have been inspired to finish this one as well.

I started by sanding the whole piece with my

Ryobi cordless sander.

When I was done, I wiped the whole thing down.

Next I took the seat off this cute little stool and used the same striped fabric I used to recover my

Mccobb Chairs (which you can see HERE)

Next up I gave the legs of the table and the stool a couple coats of Rustoleum Metallic spray paint in Gold

Once the legs were dry I could paint the top.

I used General Finishes Milk Paint in Alabaster and gave it 2 coats.

After that was dry I used a few stencils I had in my stash.

I used a wreath one and my "wild heart gypsy soul" stencil.

LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE!

I love how the gold and the white play off the black and white.

The fabric and the stencil pull it all together.

(I also forgot to add that I added the glass knobs I found at the thrift store)

I am so excited and wondering why I waited so long to finally make it over!

Restoring 2 Vintage Paul Mccobb Open Arm Chairs

Bet you didn't expect to see me back so soon did ya?

Well, I have to say I have been on a roll working on some old pieces I have had in the garage and I figure I better not wait as long to post about them as I did to finish the pieces :)

This is the story of more furniture that has been sitting in my garage for a few years.

Last time I showed you this dresser that had been sitting in my garage for over 2 years. You can see that makeover HERE.

Well, those 2 chairs you see, they have been sitting just as long.

I don't know what inspired me to get my rear in gear, but I think I honestly just got tired of looking at them.

Plus I was overwhelmed by the work both projects were gonna take.

I am not one to shy away from hard work, but I have to be in the right head space to do it.

So around the same time I started working on the dresser I decided to tackle the chairs.

I think part of the reason I was nervous was that they were very very cool chairs by a very famous designer Paul Mccobb.

Unfortunately, I found these chairs on the side of the road.

They had been left in the rain.

I was so ticked because the finish I am sure would have been fine had they not been left in the rain.

You can see what the rain had done to the finish in the above picture.

So after 2 years of looking at them stacked in my garage I finally decided it was time.

I grabbed my Ryobi cordless sander and got to work.

You can see here the sander made quick work, since the finish was almost non existent.

Here is the part where I went a little crazy.

I know Paul Mccobb is suppose to be dark walnut stained and then finished, but I wasn't feeling it and since he liked to make modern things, I decided to modern them up too. :)

I wanted their natural grain to show and only slightly darken it.

So I hand rubbed on a couple coats of Minwax Wipe on Poly

to just finish the natural beauty.

For the seats I just used some black and white striped fabric that I had picked up at goodwill for an astoundingly cheap 3.99 a bolt.

And there you have it.

Can you even believe the difference?

After all these years, I can't believe they are done.

I love how the striped fabric works with the modern lines of the chair.

Now I have to hurry and take them to my booth before I decide to find a place in my house.

(believe me I have already walked around with them and tried to make them work :) )

Mid Century Mod Dresser given and MODERN update

Long time to see.

Time seems to go faster and faster and I think I am staying ahead of the game and then I realize I haven't posted in a while.

So since I had a second to breathe I thought I would quick put up one of the pieces I worked on this summer.

This big ole beauty!

Now I have had this dresser for over 2 years.

I don't know why I waited so long to work on it; but I think I just didn't know how I wanted to work with the style of the piece and instead of forcing it, I let it sit until I felt inspired!

I loved the lines of it but it was in pretty terrible shape.

You can see here the top was pretty beat up and the middle drawers were gouged and missing hardware.

It was at this point I decided how I wanted to update this dresser.

I wanted to keep all the hardware so I decided to fill the extra holes on the middle drawers and space out the remaining hardware.

For the hardware I cleaned it all and then used Rustoleums Gold spray paint to give it a clean and shiny finish.

For the base I wanted to work with the tone of the wood.

I was planning on keeping the wood tone on some of the drawers and just cleaning them up really well and using a litte Restore a finish.

The Persian Blue Milk Paint by General Finishes worked perfectly to accent the wood.

I sanded the base and the middle drawers after filling the extra holes and wiped it all down and then gave it two coats of the paint.

Once it was dry I just added the old hardware back on.

Can you even believe this is the same piece.

I love how the hardware and the warm wood tones play off the Persian blue paint.

Plus the fact the cleaned up and painted the hardware stands out so much better.

I am so glad I waited to be inspired on this piece.

I don't think it would have turned out as well as I rushed it.

Before and After Vintage Dresser Makeover Using Westminster Green General Finishes Milk Paint

I can't even believe summer is coming to an end!
We have been sucking out every last second of it since we were trapped indoors for the loooong looooong winter we had here.

But don't despair, even while I have been enjoying my summer I have also been painting away.

For instance; this beautiful beat up little vintage dresser.

A friend of mine was cleaning out her mother in laws house that had passed and asked me if I wanted this.

Of course I said yes.

It had seen better days, but that also means it had been well loved.

It had done its job for the family and now it was my turn to give her a makeover that would turn heads again.

You can see from the top that it was in ok condition.

I just cleaned that up and the drawers and then got to work on the base.

I decided I wanted to show off her royal elegance so I of course chose a royal color. WESTMINSTER GREEN by General Finishes

I sanded and wiped down all the places I would be painting and got to work.

In between paint drying on the base I cleaned up the hardware and spray painted them to refresh them with some Rustoleum gold spray paint.

Once they were dry I put the whole thing back together again.

Look at how well that top cleaned up along with the drawer fronts.

That gorgeous finish was hiding under all that dirt and dust.

And as for the base;look how that green helped make that wood finish POP!

I think you will agree that it looks ROYALLY BEAUTIFUL now, don't you?

Vintage Farmhouse style Dresser Makeover

Can you even believe it? I have another makeover for you!

I have been blasting through projects this last week as we get ready to head west for a few weeks for our annual hiking trip.

Today I am going to show you how I easily made over this vintage little dresser.

I picked it up at a garage sale for $15

I know it looks like it isn't in that bad of shape, but the bottom two drawers were missing there bottoms, and the piece had been stripped at one point but they gave up on certain parts and then did an antiquing treatment over it.

So we used some LAUAN wood we had in the garage and made new drawer bottoms.

For the fronts I just cleaned them up and set them aside.

For the base I picked General Finishes Basil Milk Paint

to keep that vintage feel

I used it on my other small dresser makeover and just loved it. You can see that makeover HERE --> Vintage chest of drawers makeover

So after prepping the base by sanding and wiping down,

I gave it two coats and let it dry.

Once it was dry, I put the drawers back in and used my

Deco art Winterberry Wreath Stencil and placed it where I wanted it.

I used my General Finishes Milk Paint in Alabaster because I loved how the white played off the wood finish.

I also added these simple white knobs to play off the wreath.

I just loved how it came together and it was so simple.

What was once sitting at a garage sale waiting to be loved again,

is now ready for it's new home.

Finicky Fox Vintage Bow Front Buffet Makeover

I am sorry to stay away so long, but I am sure you know how life gets.

I have been painting like crazy and filling the booth, and the kids are home for summer and that doesn't leave me a lot of time to blog.

I remember thinking when the kids got older things would be less busier...(heres a hint....its not) :)

But that's ok...

The reason I am finally writing this post is because I just love this piece so much I couldn't wait to show it off.

I have a hard drive full of all the makeovers I have done in the past 3 months but those will have to wait.

This one jumped to the front of the line!

I got this buffet from a friend.

She was cleaning out her house and asked me if I wanted this?

I ran over that as fast as I could :)

You can see it needed some work, but that didn't scare me.

It had these heat marks on the top and the fronts were scratched but I didn't care.

I got right to work with my random orbital sander and took that old finish coat right off.

Once that was off and I had wiped the whole piece down with cheese cloth to pick up the dust I could start with my finish.

I picked Minwax Dark Walnut to deepen up the finish.

I sealed it with some wipe on poly and got to work on the rest of the piece.

While that was drying I removed all the hardware and cleaned it up and then gave it 2 coats of my favorite metallic spray paint.

Now it was time for the fun part.
Since I knew I was going to be putting a transfer on it, I needed a lighter color.
You know me, normally this would have been a bold green or blue,
but I wanted my graphic to stand out so I piced
General Finishes Reverent Gray Milk Paint
I put on two coats and let it dry.

Here it was, already looking fine, but I knew I wanted to jazz it up.

So I went to my transfer that I have been saving for a year and got to work.

We went to England last summer and I was reminiscing about all the cute little pubs and cafes.

Adding the Finicky Fox transfer just made this feel like it would fit in at an English Cafe.

Once the transfer was on and sealed and left to dry overnight it was time to photograph.

Remember the damage on the top,

That gorgeous grain just POPS now!

And how cute is that graphic.

There was more to the transfer but I customized mine to fit my piece.

Here she is in all her glory.

Her new refinished top,

revived hardware,

a paint job,

and a cute as a button transfer.

Outdated dresser given a beautiful makeover using westminster green general finishes milk paint

I hadn't been planning on showing a makeover but alas we got snowed in this fine April day so I figured since I couldn't be outside painting, I might as well be inside by the fire editing and typing up a post!
I had been working on furniture pretty much every day but then the temps dropped as they love to do here and we got a freak mid april snow storm and I got really grumpy and refused to go outside :)
So my grumpiness is your Before and After Makeover post!

I have had this dresser for a few months in my garage waiting for inspiration. I picked it up at the local thrift store for a great deal.
I knew she needed some work but that was no big deal.
You can't see from the picture but the top was pretty gross and you can see where the old hardware had been spinning around for quite some time making the drawer not so pretty.

So I just grabbed my

Ryobi Cordless Random Orbital Sander

and gave the top a sanding all the way down and the base a quick smooth down.

I decided I wanted to go with a two tone finish and that was the reason I took the top all the way down to the bare wood.

Once the top was sanded and wiped down I decided to go with my

General Finishes Brown Mahogany Gel Stain.

You can see here how it gave a rich finish and really made the grain pop!

While that was drying I painted the base with one of my absolutely

favorite new colors from

General Finishes......Westminster Green!

I gave it two coats to give it that deep finish.

Plus I spray painted the old hardware Gold to make that pop too!

I just love how the wood finish with the deep green and brass all plays off each other.

Now she is all ready to go be loved again and

get the royal treatment in some new owners home!

Now if you don't mind me, I am going to go hide under a pile of warm laundry until all the snow melts.

MODERN FARMHOUSE DRESSER MAKEOVER

I hadn't planned on doing a post today,

but I am in PROJECT mode before we leave for Spring Break and I had to bring some furniture into the booth, so I figured I would share one of the projects I had just finishes.

I picked up this dresser at the thrift shop for a steal.

I knew it was beat up, but it was SOLID and a BEAST

so I knew it just needed a little TLC to bring it back to a functioning piece of furniture.

Lucky for me the base was the most beat up.

The drawers were actually pretty good and just needed to be cleaned up to bring back their pretty grain.

Here you can see them all cleaned up.

Since this thing was so solid I wanted to save what wood finish I could.

The rest of the piece was so hacked up I knew that it would have to be sanded down.

So I grabbed my favorite little tool, my Ryobi Cordless Sander and got to work.

I tested a few colors next to the drawers before I started sanding and I went from there.

For the base I picked one of General Finishes new colors "Alabaster"

I don't tend to paint things white. I love color!
But this was like the perfect creamy white that played off perfectly with the hardware and the drawers.

You can see here just after one coat, how much it changed the look of the base.

No longer beat up, it looked fresh and clean!

Here you can see it playing off the wood and the brass hardware.

It was perfect.

Since this is Michigan, I had to photograph the piece at my booth!

At least I didn't have to freeze my fingers off to photograph it.

So there you have it! One of about the million projects I have been working on.

Antique Parlor Table makeover using new Westminster Green General Finishes Milk Paint

I am so happy to be back with a fun new makeover!
I have to admit that this cold weather and gray days have left me uninspired. But luckily one of my favorite paint companies came out with some new colors and it got me motivated to get some projects done.
I had picked up this antique parlor table for a few bucks at the thrift shop. It was pretty beat up and had some damage I needed to take care of but it had just the pretties details and the solid wood top that I knew could be saved.
So I got to work.

First things first, was to expose that gorgeous top.
I used my Ryobi Cordless sander
to make quick work of it so I could get back inside and out of the snow.

Once it was all sanded and smoothed out I prepped it for the stain.
I decided to go with General Finishes Brown Mahogany Gel stain to make that quarter sawn oak POP!

While the top was drying I had to decide what color to paint the base.

I put a sample of two colors on and loved both, but the Westminster Green really caught my eye and so it was decided.

I think you can see why I loved it.

Its so rich and worked so well with the warm mahogany color of the top.

I still can't believe the difference now from before.

The details just came to life with the rich color.

I am seriously in love and can't wait to find more pieces to put this gorgeous color on.

Plus I have a few other new colors I can't wait to try.

Well, I better get back to work.

Luckily I have some fun new paint to play with.

Updating and Out of Date Cabinet with Milk Paint

WELCOME BACK MY BEAUTIES!
I hope this week finds you well.

We are in for ANOTHER snow storm and honestly I think I am starting to go a bit nutty.

We are already at snow day 10 or 11..(I have lost count) and they are thinking possibly 1 or 2 more this week.

I am hoping that for once they are wrong about the snow and ice (normally they are only wrong about NICE weather...am I right...or am I right? )

ANYWHOOO...I am sick of Gray and Dark and Gloomy so I decided I needed to paint something bright cheery and HAPPY.

You know, a little FAUX sunshine feeling.

Since I was going for that FAUX sunshine feeling I decided to paint this outdated little cabinet using some General Finishes

Milk Paint in Somerset Gold..(You know..what I think the sun might look like if we ever see it again here in Michigan)

Since the top was in perfect condition I just cleaned that up.

For the base I lightly sanded the whole thing and then wiped it down with a damp cloth.

Then I gave it a couple coats of the bright and sunny yellow and.....

VOILA!!!

She looks happy and sunny and cheery!

I don't often paint things yellow, but I felt like this piece was the perfect size to add just a little bit of happy to a room.

Not too much..Not too little.

It went from drab and dreary to happy and cheery.

And who couldn't use a little happy and cheery right now!

I could use BOATLOADS of happy and cheery and SUN..
