1. Website Directory Listings. Before you begin any marketing campaign, make sure that the website you're promoting has been listed in the common directories such as DMOZ, Yahoo!, and Google. This ensures that prospects can continue to find your marketing pages long after you've launched your campaign.

Be creative, try something new, and measure the response.

6. Developing Trust. Before anyone will buy from you, your website or company needs to be seen as reputable. This means that consumers can purchase from you and not worry about the safety of their credit card information, personal information, or anything else being exchanged. A good method for developing trust is to purchase and display safety and reliability icons such as BBB Online, Trust-e, and VeriSign.

7. Provide a Guarantee. Nothing makes a consumer more comfortable with a purchase than offering a guarantee. Perhaps you can offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee or a money back guarantee. A guarantee is a great way ease the risk of making a purchase. If your competitors are offering a guarantee, you want yours to be equal or better.

Internet marketing is an incredibly powerful medium for segmenting your prospects and delivering targeted advertising. Online, you can easily measure you return on investment and refine your marketing campaign over time to improve results.

Thirdly the increase is partly due to the ease with which it is now possible for most people to have a web presence. Some affiliate marketing schemes even provide completed web pages that only require simple personalization and the site can be up and running almost immediately. Sadly, another factor having its influence is the false impression created by some marketers that the Internet provides the means to get rich quickly and easily with minimum of effort. Send the merchant an email with a question about their affiliate scheme and look at how you are treated. Discount the affiliate if there is a delayed reply, or worse still, no reply at all.

How popular is the merchant's website?

Alexa at www.alexa.com carries out a continuous process of site ranking. And will tell you how your merchant's site ranks in popularity against all of the other sites on the web. Ranking somewhere between 100,000 and 500,000 might be considered ideal. A word of caution here, however. If the ranking is below 100,000 there may already be too many affiliates associated with that merchant. If the ranking is greater than 500,000 it could just be that you have come across a new product where you have chance to make money as one of the first affiliates. Always examine the product in detail, and do a Google search to find any adverse postings. Be aware that any glowing report may be coming from an existing affiliate.

A Newbie's Story

Just recently, I hit the one year mark of being in the internet marketing business and I have to say that it was not an easy one. Like most new entrepreneurs looking for that new and easy way to generate some extra serious income, I started from scratch with no experience and no knowledge whatsoever of online business. I began my large endeavor on the major search engines looking to do some very heavy research. I searched on google under every term imaginable for extra income oppurtunities. "Make money", "extra income", "get rich", you name it, I tried it. I found practically every too good to be true, get rich product there was and of course as a newbie I was amazed by the offers. So I bought them all. Needless to say, 95% were scams and I was worse off then when I had started.

So I gave up and added to the unsightly statistic of a 97% online business failure rate. I was frustrated that it wasn’t easy to understand and simply implement. I couldn’t understand why it wasn’t easy to put up a website and generate sales. I thought I could just start advertising and it would roll in. It was then that I came back to earth and realized I was sadly misinformed and that there was no such thing as becoming a millionaire overnight.

So I went back at it. And I went HARD. I researched for 7 to 8 hours a day seven days a week for a month. I came out beat up, but I was ready and a thousand times smarter. I knew the difference between real and fake, scam and quality, effective and useless. I knew what online businesses worked and which had the greatest potential. I was prepared and focused to do whatever it took to be successful and I promised myself at that point that I would never give up no matter what happened. It took work, but I got there, and fortunately, it paid off.

Now I am able to appreciate the joy and benefits of online success that came so painstakingly. The feeling of finally reaching that goal is irreplaceable and far more expensive than what it took to get there. I couldn’t be happier than I am now that this opportunity has arrived, and am anxious to see the levels I can reach.
