They Will Never Get My Vote

It is very frustrating, disheartening... to those who did not know about our story: That night, when we were told to leave the office & bring our belongings, I tried not to be emotional. When I first heard of the info that we have to leave the office coz THEY (under Magpale's order and with more of her ill-advisers) will lock down the office---I DID NOT BELIEVE.

I told myself and my office mates: Who would have the right mind & heart to do that to us? We did not do anything to be evicted from our office that easily. What is there to secure in our office? We are just mere employees doing our job. And most of all, it was supposed to be our Christmas Party and we are supposed to get together, exchange gifts and celebrate. Can't they just let the New Year pass or just wait for our contracts to end. Mu-expire naman gyud among contract at the end of the month, unsa man ilang gidali-an? And why? Unsa ra man intawn mi oi... na-threatened sila sa among presence? Just 2 days after the suspension order was handed...agad-agad? nagmamadali? How vindictive! How cruel!

But no, shortly after we confirmed the truth about the news...a team of Magpale's staff went inside our office and ordered us to bring our personal belongings and vacate the office. With the help of one of our superior, he bargained that we be given the chance to pack our things until the next day at noon time. (but of course, mutuo pud ka nga pasudlon pa kaha mi the next day? and so we packed our things). Lami ihilak..but the tears came days after... kung kanus-a ming-sink in na ang tanan.

With heavy hearts, igo ragyud mi gipahuman og picture taking kuyog sa among Christmas Tree... namutos mi. I packed my more than five years of memories.... sakit sa dughan and dili lang ako ang nasakit, hasta among mga pamilya.

And what made it worst? The police had to check through all our things. Maayo na kaayog kaputos akong boxes, they untied it. Unsa man diay among nabuhat? Unsay pagtuo ninyo namo? Kawatan? Nga kinahanglan rekisahon.

Futile ra ilang pagwaling-waling sa akong mga gamit kay KAHIBAWO ko nga wala sila kasabot sa ilang gibuhat ug kung naa man silay gi-check sa among mga butang, wa sila kahibawo kung unsa.

Sabta kuno na be!

We labored--walay gipiling adlaw..ming-duty mi... nag-naning mi sa among trabaho ug pagkahuman...ingon ani-on lang mi?

PEOPLE! You can all say bad things against Gov. Gwen, but I dare ask you... Unsa man imong nahibaw-an sa atong pang-Gobyerno? Yes, walay mga anghel sa politika...but I know one great leader who made Cebu, who made me feel that Cebu is the best province in the country. Why? Because no one has made Cebu soar to unprecedented heights in terms of infrastructure, tourism, business and what have you. Kung wa kahibawo ani..do your research... o ba kaha, taga-siyudad ka nga nag-apil-apil langsa issue. Dili man ka ka-feel kung milambo na ang Cebu kay na-confine ra ka sa imong balay ug sa imong gitrabahuan. I dare you! Suruya ang Cebu....dili ang Cebu City!

I am out of work. Jobless. I-renew kunog usa ka buwan ang mga casuals & contractuals... cge, ikaw ako pangutan-on.. Would you work under her after all that happened to you. Would you? Siguro kung makaon ra nimo.

I left a part of my heart in Sugbo News. I was one of the team that revived it, nurtured it... i considered it as my baby.

This coming election, huna-hunaa intawon ninyo kung kinsa inyong butaran.

The Sweet Little Things

Slept last night with a very bad news...it is disheartening that the Court of Appeals did not issue a temporary restraining order, instead, the appellate court's 12th division has set an oral argument this January 10. Haaay dugaya pa adto oi... and at times, I no longer want to check the news and read nasty comments about Gov. Gwen. It is easy for people to comment, especially those who are not from Cebu. Here's a link from sunstar.

Nonetheless, I am still very hopeful that justice will triumph.

And so, what did i do today now that i am officially jobless? A LOT. I woke up with a happier heart, and finished a few tasks--emailed necessary stuffs, welcomed an officemate, attended a fruitful meeting, saw vintage cameras and the most important things of all--coffee & donuts--with friends.☺ The sweet little things in life!☺

Another reason to be happy today: Our baby boy celebrated his 8.11 years as well...so...it calls for mama's over delicious humba!

Day One: Nursing A Melancholic Heart

What do we usually do on the first day of the year?

It feels strange to start the year knowing that I will not be able to get back to my usual work routine. And the sad part is that I still can't fathom that this is really happening. I will surely miss the office and my baby--Sugbo News.

How time flies! (Deep sigh) I can still remember the first time we work on our first publication. We labored hard for it. Together with two other 'girls', Cheryl and Reggie, we painstakingly handpicked the photos and of the stories printed. I can still remember how proud we were when we saw the dummy.

Years passed, the girls left and more and more people came and then left...I served at least three editors and had acted as one when there was no one,and through all the hurdles, conflicts and issues... I remained.

It is more than just my love for Sugbo News, I enjoyed working because I did not feel that I was working at all.

On my first year, I was able to travel around Cebu...scratching a big part of my bucket list. And little did I know that years after, I get to travel abroad and visit one of the countries that I used to represent in UN Day in grade school--Chile. And of the country that I used to google-- Brazil.

For the past five years in Sugbo News, I encountered and learned a lot of firsts:

I learned how to take photos & act like a photojournalist brushing elbows with people I only read in the papers (whom are now my good friends and one who eventually became closer to my heart), I learned Adobe softwares by just sitting beside Pamie for hours, I travelled around Cebu and the country, I dined in hotels and slept in different resorts, I learned that our government is really at work...and I can write more if only I am not using my mobile phone in typing this.

I am sad. But, as they say...life goes on. I can only hope that months from now, Sugbo News will be printed again.

Of the events that occured in the last week, I am disheartened and felt like being slapped hard in the face of the reality of how dirty politics can be.

I love my job and I know my allegiance. I know who my bosses are and will continue to stand by it.

Last Christmas, I hugged gov and wished her a merry Christmas. I am always emotional, I cry over petty things-even movies-but I tried to hide my swelling eyes...

This year, I am planning on setting another career path...I am excited and the same time nervous. I have not updated my resume for a long time.

I wonder if the questions will still be the same. Haaaay

Go, go, 2013! Be good to me!

Finally, we got a priest in the batch. Harold Langahin, makes us very proud. If you can still remember, 10 years ago (we were 17 at that time), we had a gathering like this to send off Harold to priesthood. And 10 years after, he is finally ordained...

We can book Father Aloy, he said, at least 6 months earlier, for kasal and bunyag. Hehehehehe

Chilled Green Tea

Of Sherlock & K Chicken

I had been telling the boyfriend that I want to check how tasty BonChon's chicken and if the review in PopTalk was really that reliable. To avoid the curious Cebuano crowd (who usually dines with a flock when there is something new--thank God the 7Eleven craze died down), I told him that we whould be there as soon as it opens for the day.

We paid through his GCs and since the flagship product is their chicken, i had the spicy chops. And... no, it was not tasty at all. Suddenly, I miss the Chowking crispy chicken or better yet, the P15 chicken for sale across the office. My taste buds remained Pinoy.

The menu isn't bad at all but it is their chicken that I could not swallow. It's too dry, the meat so bland and I could not find the 'spicy' chicken. The crew are still frantic. Gamay pa gani ang customers, unsa na kaha on peak hours. I asked for rice, and, they just gave me a wrapped rice forgetting to give me a plate till I asked for one. (But, this I understand.)

I googled for review, there were more positive ones that the rotten ones in fairness. I wonder if the Ayala Branch is still adjusting or their cook still learning. Their chicken is a bit pricy too that I will settle for Chowking's chicken again.(But, still, this I understand since it is a 'Korean' chicken....imported ang brand, mahal tingali ang royalty).

But, I'd definitely go back because of their delicious yogurt. The Blueberry Torte is affordable and will make sure to taste the other flavor. And will check their non-chicken menu too. But not next week. Months from now, i guess.

And yes, Sherlock! I still want to have a good pair of eyes that instead of going for the eBook versions, I managed to find a cheaper Bantam volume of Doyle's works for only P259. It includes The Hound of Baskervilles, The Valley of Fear, His Last Bow (the last of the Sherlock novels) and The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes. So, that would leave me with three more stories to read and I'd be done reading all the Sherlock series!☺

P.S. It is a very cold Thursday. Keep your umbrellas, it usually rains in the afternoon.

Sta. Fe is indeed a paradise. I have written a story about this town
and there are still a lot of stories to tell. On our last day in for
this years Suroy-Suroy Sugbo Northern Escapade, I was excited to know
that I'd be accomodated in an another resort. You see, everytime we
come here, we always stay in Sta. Fe Beach Club or in Ogtong.

Last night, we arrived very late and so there was less time to explore
so this morning I woke uop early and got the surpriese of the day. Low
clouds hanging on the horizon and the calm water seemed to be pushing
it up so it won't fall.

The resort is small but it the rooms are spacious. There are tiki
poles around, a barometer and great lounge chairs.

The bar also has this different car plates...so the owner must loved
cars. And inside the restaurant, I get to have green tea.

Mandaue City is very lucky that the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court chose to visit barely a month when she started office.

It is still her fourth week and CJ Sereno has been her rounds to make true to her vow to see actual conditions of the lower court,the front liners. She said whe wants to see the potentials and problems of the lower court.

With the relaunching of Justice in Wheels, a program which aimed to get justice closer and faster to those who seek it especially those who could not afford, CJ Sereno said those who lives in the shadows will be given priority. This is also a program to help decongest priuson cells by expediting cases especially those prisoners who should not be staying in the jail for another day.

She believes that there is a duty form the legal department to extend a hand to those who need it most. And what she is doing out is, the program Justice On Wheels is a way to reach out, to show that those in the outskirts are as important as those people in the metropolis.

On the other hand, despite her erratic schedule, Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia managed to squeeze time to pesonally welcome CJ Sereno. She said she could not pass the chance to welcome the very first woman chief justice of the Supreme Court.

Someone found a new place to relax...

Oh, well for me...it is enjoying good food with pangs.☺His first time at Llew's...and my second time. He has a coverage near Redemptorist and this is just the perfect place for him to wait for the time. It's brunch for us as well.

Their smores and mud pies are great and I enjoy their lemonade too.☺

Jash's Alternative Class Day (A-Day)

When my sister phoned that I am to replace her to talk about showing gratitude to grandparents and elderly, I was kinda hesitant. But since we do everything for our little boy, I agreed, surprisingly, including our father.

The talk was really short, i typed it in my phone's memo pad and was really worried that I might end up reading my phone. It was such a distraction, scrolling down but was able to finish it with my self still intact. I disliked to talk in public, really. I am not afraid but it is just that I know i don't have that much wit to compose myself.

But seeing Jash, confidently standing in front of the class, I had to be like him.☺

The talk started with the teacher telling the class what the activity is all about and then Jash read his short speech (hand written by my sister less than an hour ago). Oh how I admire him!

Then he introduced my father, his lolo, who like me was also nervous. I wasn't able to hear him. i found a vacant seat at the back and sat down and tried to distract myself with a test paper i found on the desk. I cannot really understand what my father was talking about. His voice is so...small. Ahmmm meek voice... LOL! (Unya sa balay kay isog kaayo.)

And then, it was suddenly my turn. Blank. Blank. Blank.

Then I heard myself saying thank you. That was it!!! I'm done!

The teacher then focused on the students and it was time to answer some queries. Grade 2 questions were kinda cute to answer.

'What do you do on a Sunday?' 'Do you play with Jash?' 'What is Jash's favorite food?'

After all the questions were entertained, another teacher handed me a rose and we had our photos taken. Jash's teacher in Ms. Aringay. It was the first time that i mer her teacher. (i know most of the teachers because some of them were acquaintances.)

When we went outside, we were the very first one to finish! We were ushered in the AVR and yes, it was such a relief. But I did not stay. I went across the other side of the building and listened to my boss made her speech.☺

It was very touching for our boss to be their not as the 'governor' but as the 'grandma' despite her hectic schedule.

P.S. I dropped my long stemmed rose somewhere. I was hoping to place it in my desk. :(

I can stay at Watson's for hours and what is so great is that they have this P50 on us promo. Every P300 minimum single receipt purchase onf any Watson label products.☺ And on sale also is this 350ml Creamsilk conditioner.☺ And to compliment my new hair cut, a new roller brush!

I also check my closet to update the status of my cologne and perfumed lotions. Time to disard some and put them on display so I could use it.☺ I tend to forget about these lotions....
