Isaiah House awarded $2 million grant from MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving Initiative

Today, we are overwhelmed with joy and gratitude as we announce that Isaiah House has been selected as a recipient of a $2M grant from MacKenzie Scott's Yield Giving initiative. This recognition is not just an award but a profound endorsement of our mission and our vital work in the community.

The Yield Giving Open Call attracted over 6,353 applications, with an initial plan to award 250 organizations $1 million each. Isaiah House’s selection as a $2 million grant recipient underscores the organization’s exemplary service and pivotal role in community support.

This grant will catalyze the launch of our eagerly anticipated, rehabilitated facility on 14th Street in East Orange. This new center will serve those who have fallen through the cracks of traditional funding sources, including undocumented families and unhoused women seeking sobriety support to stay with their children.

While we celebrate this incredible milestone, our journey is far from over. We recognize that the road ahead is filled with hard work and dedication to ensure a long-lasting impact and sustainable, long-term growth. You all have been with us for the long haul, and we are so grateful and appreciative of all your support.

We couldn’t wait to share this incredible blessing with you all. And we invite you to get more involved with Isaiah House in 2024!

Happy New Year to all of our readers! As the winter chill settles in, January brings in a fresh start and a world of possibilities. It's a time for reflecting, goal setting, and embracing new beginnings. As we embark on this New Year filled with hope and blessings, we are excited to share the latest updates and reflections of Life Change Centers!

Moses said it best; "So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Psalms 90:12. With 2023 chapter coming to an end, we open up to a new page of our next chapter in life titled "2024". With the past holidays, most of everyone's time was spent focusing on everyone else with gifts giving, food preparations for others, etc. Now, with the New Year upon us, it is time to focus on ourselves. God willing 2024 will be a year filled with healing & restoration, spiritual growth, love, joy, and peace. As we think of these New Year’s resolutions, we naturally reflect on how we can better ourselves and contemplate changes to make that happen.

Resolution Evening with the Women Center

"The ladies spent a quaint evening at my house jotting down various resolutions from different areas of their life such as spiritual, health, and relationships. We talked about allocating a certain amount of time each day in order to meet their goals. We also talked about broken past relationships they may have with their families or friends and how they can take action to begin the healing process this year. For our spiritual goals, we focused on studying the Word and carving out time for prayer each day. Afterwards we had tea and sat in the jacuzzi."

As the sun finally rises, a warm wind blows gently, and the tiny grains of sand caress the skin. A smell of ocean water along with a sound of waives crashing against the pier, lure the attention and the desire to get closer. Few more steps and the beach comes into full view with the sunlight dancing off the surface of the water. A familiar cry of the seagulls and fishermen's poles draw finishing touches on this breathtaking live painting.
Located at the Port Aransas, stands a beautiful home with an incredible view and a five-minute walk to the beach. A place where students from the men's center had a three-day retreat along with two pastors from God Will Provide Church and LCC alumni.
A change of scenery and a cozy setting gave students a breath of fresh air and a getaway from their daily routine. After settling in, students and ministers had a fellowship where many important topics were discussed along with questions and answers, songs of worship and group prayers. Each student had an opportunity to have a private conversation, confession and a prayer with the ministers. As a result, prayers of deep repentance and breaking of spiritual strongholds took place. A true feeling of freedom that cannot be mistaken and a sense of joy filled the room as the students sang the song which they have written and composed themselves about God's great love and mercy.
It is moments like these, that encourage us to press forward boldly with this ministry. A ministry through which God heals, restores lives and gives back everything that has been stolen by the enemy. A brand-new chance and a blank white page to write a new chapter of a new story.
But I will restore you to health, and heal your wounds; (Jeremiah 30:17)

Mexico Missionary Trip
Growing up in America is a blessing that passes us by every day. I know that we all had that epiphany while visiting Matamoros, Mexico this month of January. Our group consisted of ministers, LCC participants, LCC alumni, and others from local God Will Provide Church. Crossing the border was a testimony in itself, seeing as the border decided to close three minutes early, but by the mercy of God, we successfully crossed! Our first stop was evangelizing to the refugees at the Mexico/ US border. Seeing their make-shift tarp tents made us realize how blessed we are to live in America. Pastor Sergiy Tsymbalyuk started it off with a word that led to testimonies from the LCC alumni. It was heartwarming to see tears in the refugees' eyes as they came to get prayed for. After the evangelism, we had a group of women serve in the Casa Hogar Dios Provera (God Will Provide Orphanage) by arranging games and a pizza party, while the men went to serve in the Mexico men's Life Change Center there. To end the trip, everyone went to Vlad Shishkin's (Pastor of God Will Provide Church in Matamoros) new taco restaurant to enjoy his delicious tacos and fries!

"Every time I'm given the opportunity to go to Matamoros, I take it. The more I go there, the more I see the glory of God through the work He is doing there. How His hand is over every ministry of the church there. This trip the group had decided to go evangelize to the less fortunate. The Holy Spirit lead and put it on my heart to testify of how Gods goodness and mercy has been upon my life. When doing this outreach to the community, I noticed what a great thirst and need people have of hearing the Word of God and prayers. I encourage everyone who is able, please go and serve in whatever way they can. There is an orphanage, men's rehabilitation center, and church which are in great need of laborers or if you are not able to go there, you can pray or support financially.

Life Change Center (LCC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing a cost-free, residential, nine-18 month program that welcomes adults 18 years-of-age and older. LCC shows our students’ God’s love while providing 24/7 support through their detox and withdrawal periods. Here they are provided with mentorship and guidance to help learn life skills; and, crisis management to transform them into productive men and women of our community. The LCC success rate, within our first two years of serving this community (2016-2018), has shown 81% of our students succeed and graduate from the program.

A New Year's note from our founder, Nic Billman

“We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters the inner shrine behind the curtain, where Jesus, a forerunner on our behalf, has entered, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”
Hebrews 6:19-20

As we close out the year of 2023, we look back with gratitude and joy for all that the Lord has done in and through Shores of Grace in Recife, Brazil, Philadelphia, and in many other parts of the world. What an amazing and loving Father we have, and what a powerful God He is! Thank you, also, to those of you who gave towards our year-end giving campaign. We are so grateful for your generosity! As we begin 2024, our hearts are full of expectation and a willingness to follow close after the footsteps of Jesus in all that we do. The word that the Lord gave us for this new year is, “Anchored in hope, rooted in love.”

Hope is more a noun than it is a verb. In Christ, we do not merely “hope that things work out.” We possess hope because it is He who poured His hope into our hearts (Rom. 5:5). We have hope and this hope is anchored in the very presence of God because Jesus is both the perfect sacrifice and our high priest who went beyond the veil (Heb. 6:19-20). The hope that we have is His hope because He is the author of hope! His hope does not disappoint; it will never let you down. He will give you hope and strengthen you in moments of peace and in moments of tribulation. He does this because He loves you and he will use all things for your good if you love Him (Rom. 8:28). It is not merely that he can be loving or that he loves on occasion. He is love! He is the very source, essence, and movement of love. For those who are in Christ, we are rooted and grounded in His love (Eph. 3:16-17). His love is our firm foundation and the ultimate depth of our being and living.

We pray that this year, in sunshine days or stormy seas, you would cling to the hope of Christ, which is our anchor. That you would dig your roots even deeper into His love and that through you, many would come to know the hope and love that we possess through Jesus! This is our prayer for our ministry this year and it is our prayer for you. Happy New Year!

Dry January: Worth It Or Not? + What's Roxicodone?

Welcome to the first newsletter of 2024! I hope you all had a Happy New Year!

1. What Is Roxicodone? (And Getting Sober)

Roxicodone, a brand name for Oxycodone (also called Roxies, Oxies, Blues, Thirties, Percolone, OxyIR) is an opioid some may never have heard of. The narcotic painkiller helps reduce pain since it has ingredients that mimic those found in morphine and codeine. Because of its pain-relieving ability, it can be addictive, just as any opioid would be.

This article unveils the history and breaks down the symptoms of Roxicodone addiction. It also includes how people endure harmful health conditions because of it. What is most important is to understand how it impacts the mind and body and get help if you or a loved one is addicted. Recovery is possible, but taking the initial step for recovery is key.

2. Ashley's Recovery Journey

Ashley (who did not submit a picture for possible privacy reasons) recalls her experience with addiction. She called herself a monster and remembered sleeping all the time.

Missing out on her kids, her daughter was responsible for caretaking them. She was hostile and violent to loved ones, hostile and mean. Once deciding to give up and run from her children, she realized she had to change. Click here to discover how she changed and got sober and where she is now. Congrats, Ashley!

3. New Year's Resolutions

New Year's resolutions encourage growth, accountability, vision, and change. during the first week and even month of the year, it's easy for us to get ramped up about how we are going to change. But over time, those resolutions become less of a goal and more of an idea. Many of us want to get more sleep, save more money, or lose weight/change our diet.

For those who wish to practice getting and staying sober, know you have support. This article showcases how to stick and commit to resolutions. Those in sobriety can connect with support groups and positive people in like-minded circles.

4. Dry January: Worth It Or Not?

Dry January allows someone the motivation to stop drinking. Because of New Year's resolutions, It's no surprise many participate in this event. It's a positive intention choice that provides enriching health benefits from increased energy and better problem-solving.

However, for social drinking, it can be hard to know where to start or how to keep going once you start. Therefore, this article provides tools and tips to keep you going way after Dry January. And if you're wondering, yes it's worth it. Imagine all the things you can do once you give up drinking, and how it can improve relationships.

5. Brain Shrinkage from Marijuana Abuse

A Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis study provides another reason to monitor and get sober from weed. The results of the study show long-term effects of marijuana abuse can lead to brain shrinkage. To add, those with frequent marijuana are at risk of Alzheimer's disease later in life. Some of this is common knowledge, but some believe studies of marijuana's effects on the brain are far and few between. The study evaluated 40,000 participants hoping to encourage people to understand the risks or not smoke at all. Read more here.
