The Yankees lost 3-1 to the Cardinals. They stranded 11 runners. They went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position. The stadium lights quit on them twice. It was one of those nights where everything that could short-circuit did.

Everything except the shortstop.

And that's exactly why this loss felt different. George Lombard Jr. has been the Yankees' starting shortstop for exactly two games, and somehow the entire organization already feels lighter. Maybe it's because we're finally watching baseball instead of a science experiment that everyone knew had failed except the people running the lab.

For years, Yankees fans were told to ignore what they were seeing. Anthony Volpe just needed more time. Then more time after that. Then some patience. Then another season. Somewhere along the way, "development" became code for "please stop asking questions."

Finally, it was enough.

Lombard showed up, homered in his Major League debut, followed it up with another hit, stole one away on defense, and suddenly the most important position on the field looks... normal.

You know, the way it's supposed to.

Will Warren probably summed it up better than anyone. "I made a joke with him earlier: 'He's everywhere.' It's nice to have that behind you."

Meanwhile, back in Scranton, Anthony Volpe is getting regular at-bats while rotating between shortstop and second base. Good. That's exactly where he needs to be.

The problem is the Yankees still can't seem to let go of the fantasy that Volpe is somehow their long-term answer at shortstop. That ship didn't just sail—it filed a change-of-address form. Just watch Lombard for a few innings.

The first step. The range. The instincts. The athleticism.

It's simply reality. Some guys have "it." Others spend three years convincing an organization they might eventually find it. George Lombard Jr. already has it. Personally? I've said it before and I'll say it again. Volpe's best chance to carve out a Major League career is probably at second base... with another organization.

Because this isn't really about Anthony Volpe anymore. It's about what happens when the Yankees stop forcing a narrative and let talent speak for itself. Even the clubhouse feels different. We actually have a chance to win it all.

Trent Grisham talked about believing the offense will eventually come around, and maybe it will. But confidence is contagious, and so is competence.

For the first time in a long time, the Yankees look like they're playing with both. Fans aren't holding their breath every time a routine ground ball is hit to short. Pitchers aren't wondering if they need four outs in an inning. And perhaps best of all, nobody has to spend the postgame explaining why what everyone just watched wasn't actually what they watched.

That's progress. George Lombard Jr. has been in the Bronx for two days.

Two.

And somehow the Yankees already feel like a team trying to win baseball games instead of trying to win an argument. That's the biggest difference of all. Brian Cashman may still be clinging to the Volpe dream like it's the last life raft on the Titanic.

The rest of us have already climbed aboard the Lombard ship. And judging by the reaction inside that clubhouse, the Yankees and the Yankees social media has too.

You know, I'm really not happy about how the Yankees botched the trade deadline. They really screwed that up to the point that the Red Sox and the Rays are off in the distance pointing and laughing at us. Our rivals made the upgrades that Brian Cashman claimed weren't possible. There were "limited opportunities" on the market. Limited to who? Only Cashman who can't seem to get the job done.

He has one job, and that is to build a championship caliber team, and find ways to improve upon it. Other teams did it, but he's just not capable. Sure, I know he added Heliot Ramos and Luis Garcia Jr. He added offense which is needed because this lineup is dead without Aaron Judge but, it's a band-aid fix. Neither of these guys play catcher or can come out of the bullpen. They are fine. I want more than fine. I am tired of settling or being complacent while our biggest competitors become more dangerous.

Nothing against Ramos or Garcia. They are just bats the Yankees hope will add some offense to the lineup. Meanwhile, we are still stuck with Austin Wells who can just continue to suck without having an excuse like he's under too much pressure and folding because of it. Now he can just suck because the Yankees will let him because now they have no opportunities instead of "limited opportunities." The only plus to this is Anthony Volpe can suck down in Triple-A and we don't have to watch him night after night screaming the same obscenities when he doesn't hit or screws up defensively.

So the win for Cashman is we stop bitching about Volpe and now we get to watch George Lombard Jr. finally get his opportunity. He's as untouchable as one could be for a while, but the Yankees stupidly stuck with Volpe for too long. He certainly wasn't holding onto his spot because he earned it, they just wanted Volpe to blossom into something he was never going to be. If the Yankees weren't going to trade Lombard Jr, they needed to give him a chance. It's not like he could be worse. That's almost impossible....

So now you have to wonder if the Yankees best addition was actually a subtraction of Volpe and calling up top prospect Lombard Jr. That was their trade deadline. We got better by sending down a scrub. That's it. Lombard Jr is a talent for sure, we saw it last night there is so much potential there but.....this can't be the big splash for a team with championship aspirations!

We are defined as a team that makes additions by subtraction....that's what we have become. These "decision makers" are a joke. Time will tell, but I hope Lombard Jr. makes the Yankees regret being stupid for so long.

REAL TALENT DOESN'T REQUIRE A PUBLIC RELATIONS DEPARTMENT

Before the Yankees even threw a pitch tonight, the mood around the Bronx had already changed. No, it wasn't just because George Lombard Jr. had finally arrived. It was because Anthony Volpe was gone. That's a fact folks, and I speak honesty so let's stop pretending otherwise.

The excitement wasn't simply about baseball's top shortstop prospect getting his chance. The real electricity came from the fact that the Yankees had finally waved the white flag on one of the most stubborn, tone-deaf personnel decisions in recent franchise history. Fans weren't celebrating someone getting called up. They were celebrating that someone else had finally been taken out of the lineup.

That says everything.

The game itself wasn't loaded with drama, but George Lombard Jr. made sure nobody would forget it. In the fifth inning, Hunter Dobbins tried to sneak an 81-mph sweeper past him.

Bad idea.

The homegrown superstar who justified every scouting report, every promotional campaign, every spring training interview and every ridiculous sound bite coming out of the front office.

Remember when Boone called him "f-ing elite?" Of course you do. That wasn't confidence. That was advertising.

It always felt like Boone was reading from a script handed to him upstairs. Every time Volpe struggled, the talking points stayed exactly the same. Ignore what your eyes are seeing. Trust us. He's elite. He's special. He's untouchable. Fans were told to believe the slogan instead of the baseball Volpe was playing until it was too obvious, he wasn't close to ready. Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone spent years trying to convince everyone that the emperor was wearing pinstripes.

The problem? The emperor forgot his bat. Meanwhile, George Lombard Jr. arrives with none of that baggage. Nobody is trying to sell him. Nobody is demanding that fans buy into a marketing campaign (Well, not they are of course). Nobody is asking the media to lower expectations while simultaneously calling him a franchise cornerstone.

They're simply saying... "Go be you."

Why?

Because real talent doesn't require a public relations department.

Watching tonight's game, you could almost feel the tension disappear. The dugout looked looser. The at-bats looked freer. The energy was different. Even Boone looked like someone who wasn't managing every pitch with one eye on the front office.

And that's because Lombard doesn't feel like an obligation. He feels like a baseball player.

He earned every rung of the ladder. He developed in the minors. He learned the game. He wasn't rushed because somebody needed a feel-good story for Opening Day.

Will he struggle? Absolutely. Every young player does. Every ground ball became an adventure. Every at-bat felt like a coin flip. If we're being honest, and I am, it wasn't just the fans sitting on pins and needles. Most likely 3 years in it was Brian Cashman too.

Because every error...

Every strikeout...

Every ugly night chipped away at a narrative the organization had spent years manufacturing.

Lombard doesn't need a narrative.

He belongs. That's what stood out tonight. Not just because he homered. Because nothing about him looked forced. He looked comfortable and confident. He looked exactly like a kid who has spent his entire life preparing for this moment instead of trying to live up to somebody else's press release.

People love tossing around Derek Jeter comparisons, and I hate doing it because they're unfair. But here's what I will say.

George Lombard Jr. looks real. He's authentic. He's playing baseball instead of acting in a Yankees commercial. And that's why this feels different.

What happens next? Nobody knows. Baseball has always been unpredictable. Just ask Wally Pipp. Sometimes history changes because a player gets hurt. Sometimes it changes because an organization finally runs out of excuses.

Maybe tonight was one of those moments. Maybe years from now we'll look back at Anthony Volpe being sent to Scranton the same way previous generations remembered lineup changes that nobody appreciated at the time. Either way, one thing became crystal clear.

He knew the Yankees needed a catcher, and he did nothing. Brian Cashman wants Yankees fans to believe the catching market dried up before the trade deadline.

That's convenient. It's also absolute nonsense.

After the deadline, Cashman claimed there was a "limited opportunity" to acquire a catcher, suggesting his hands were tied. That's the kind of explanation you give when you're trying to justify doing nothing.

Here's the problem. Doing nothing is exactly what Brian Cashman did.

This wasn't some hidden flaw that only the analytics department could uncover. Every person watching Yankees baseball knew the catching position was a liability months ago. Fans knew it. The media knew it. Opposing teams certainly knew it. Bleeding Yankee Blue has been reporting it for months.

Cashman knew it too, and he still let the deadline come and go without making a meaningful upgrade. Austin Wells has been one of the weakest offensive catchers in baseball this season. He's hitting .167 after 221 at bats with just 8 home runs and 16 RBIs. His year has been derailed by a prolonged slump, followed by a stint on the injured list because of cervical headaches. Since returning, the Yankees are still waiting for the breakout they've been promised. He's the weakest catcher in the league... but don't worry he still rates burritos and wears the orange catching gear as an homage to one of the greatest catchers of our lifetime, Thurman Munson. But that doesn't change the fact that he is weak.

Hope by the Yankees front office isn't a strategy. Wells needs to pack up and take the bus to somewhere else and bring Volpe and those ridiculous scouts with you... cause they all got it wrong.

Then there's Ali Sánchez.

Sure, he's hitting .273, but let's not pretend that's solving anything. Sánchez is a backup catcher who gives you defense and little else. If he's your safety net on a club chasing a World Series, you've already got a problem.

Cashman admitted the Yankees have struggled offensively, especially from the catching position.

Great.

Now explain why you ignored it. This is where the excuses fall apart. The market was NOT empty.

The Boston Red Sox landed Adley Rutschman, arguably the biggest impact catcher available, and they did it while breathing down the Yankees' necks in the standings. Think about that for a second. The Yankees' biggest rival identified a weakness, acted aggressively, and came away with a franchise cornerstone.

The Yankees? They watched it happen.

The Tampa Bay Rays strengthened themselves by acquiring Liam Hicks, a young catcher with offensive upside and years of club control. Arguably better than Austin Wells. The Los Angeles Dodgers, facing injuries behind the plate, refused to sit around waiting for good luck. They added Ben Rortvedt and Hunter Feduccia because smart organizations understand that depth matters in August and September.

Everywhere you looked, contenders were improving. Except in the Bronx.

Cashman's lone catching move was acquiring Omar Alfonzo, a minor league prospect who isn't helping the Yankees win one game this season. That's not fixing the major league roster. That's filing paperwork.

And that's become Brian Cashman's trademark.

For years, the Yankees have operated as though urgency is optional. Every deadline feels the same. They identify obvious weaknesses, spend days leaking how hard they're working, then congratulate themselves for making half-measures while pretending the market didn't cooperate.

Enough.

The job description of a general manager isn't to explain why something couldn't be done. It's to find a way to get it done.

No one is paying Brian Cashman to shrug his shoulders. He's paid to outwork other front offices, identify opportunities before anyone else, and improve his roster. Instead, he watched Boston get dramatically better. He watched Tampa solve a need. He watched Los Angeles reinforce its roster. And he did what has become far too common under his leadership.

Because the general manager lacked the urgency to do the job. And if the Yankees' season ends with another October disappointment, remember this deadline. Remember that Brian Cashman saw one of the biggest holes on his roster, acknowledged it publicly, and then chose to leave it exactly as it was.

BABE RUTH CONSPIRACY? THE DUMBEST STORY OF THE DECADE

I never thought anyone would seriously need proof that Babe Ruth existed, but here we are.

Cubs All-Star Pete Crow-Armstrong recently repeated the bizarre claim that Ruth may not have been real. On the podcast “Let’s Be Honest” Crow-Armstrong was referring to was a 2024 interview with Mariners pitcher Tayler Saucedo, in which Saucedo argued that because there are not many videos of Ruth playing baseball, he must not be real.

That might be the most ridiculous baseball theory in recent history.

It also perfectly represents a generation that gets most of its news from TikTok. If there is no high-definition video, alternate camera angle or 30-second clip with captions, apparently the event never happened.

Look, Babe Ruth played from 1914 through 1935. During most of his career, motion-picture cameras were bulky, expensive and mounted on tripods. Raw film stock was costly, and newsreel crews were not recording complete nine-inning games. They usually captured a few swings, pregame warmups, dugout footage or a home-run trot.

Regular live television broadcasting did not exist during Ruth’s prime. That is why limited footage survives—not because Ruth was some character invented by baseball historians.

The actual historical record is enormous. Ruth’s career was documented through official scorebooks, newspapers, photographs, contracts, eyewitness accounts and surviving newsreel footage.

And those records describe a player unlike anyone else.

Ruth began as an elite left-handed pitcher before becoming baseball’s greatest power hitter. He finished with 714 home runs, a .342 batting average, a record .690 slugging percentage and a 1.164 career OPS. In 1927, he hit 60 home runs. During certain seasons, Ruth personally out-homered entire major-league teams.

He did not simply dominate baseball. He changed its basic strategy, helping move the sport away from bunts, stolen bases and low-scoring “small ball” toward the power game fans recognize today.

Questioning history is healthy. Ignoring a mountain of historical evidence because there are not enough TikTok clips is not.

Babe Ruth existed Crow-Armstrong, don't be ridiculous. Critical thinking is one thing, but this is just stupid.

FAN PRESSURE BREAKS THE YANKEES. VOLPE SENT DOWN

They have nobody to blame but themselves. It is my opinion that the New York Yankees thought they could bury the story.

Late Monday night after getting embarrassed 13-7 by the St. Louis Cardinals, the organization quietly slipped out the biggest roster news of the season through YES Network's Jack Curry, long after the daily baseball news cycle had slowed down. It wasn't an accident. It was calculated.

The Yankees announced that Anthony Volpe had been optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Top prospect George Lombard Jr. was finally getting the call to become the club's regular shortstop. Jasson Domínguez was also sent back to Triple-A as part of the roster shuffle.

This wasn't just a baseball move. This was an organization finally cracking under the weight of fan pressure and years of its own failures. Let's be honest. Brian Cashman backed himself into this corner and did a horrible job at the trade deadline. After another deadline where the Yankees failed to make the kind of significant moves that could actually change the direction of this club, something had to give. The fan base has been screaming for accountability while Cashman continued to sell patience. Well, patience ran out.

George Lombard Jr. didn't suddenly become ready overnight. He's been outperforming Anthony Volpe offensively all season. He possesses the higher ceiling, the better physical tools, and frankly, he looks like the future. Everyone could see it except the Yankees, who stubbornly continued forcing the Volpe experiment long after the evidence suggested it wasn't working.

The Yankees didn't make this move because they wanted to. They made it because they had no other choice. That's the embarrassing part.

Instead of acting proactively, they waited until the pressure became unbearable. They waited until another ugly loss. They waited until fans had completely lost faith in the front office's decision-making. Then they quietly released the news after hours, hoping it wouldn't dominate headlines.

Sorry. Fans aren't stupid. This is one of the biggest organizational decisions they've made in years, and it deserves to be treated that way.

Give George Lombard Jr. credit. He's earned this opportunity. He actually earned it. Nobody handed him anything. He forced the Yankees to make this decision with his performance, not with hype, not with promises, and certainly not because anyone owed him a favor.

That's what makes this promotion so refreshing. Lombard climbed the ladder the way prospects are supposed to—by producing. Meanwhile, Anthony Volpe spent years being sold to the fan base as the next great Yankee before he ever proved he could consistently hit major league pitching. The organization fell in love with the projection and refused to let go, even as the evidence piled up.

Whether those relationships influenced decision-making or not, the perception exists because the organization kept doubling down on him long after the results stopped justifying it. This is all my opinion of course; it's just through my research. But I think I'm right.

That's the real travesty with this whole thing though. Merit seemed to take a back seat to organizational pride. The Yankees invested so much in proving they were right that they ignored what everyone else could plainly see. Volpe simply never developed into the everyday major league shortstop they promised he would become. Every player deserves a chance, but no player deserves an unlimited leash while better options waited for an opportunity. Volpe got that, it was wrong on many levels.

George Lombard Jr. didn't ask for special treatment. He earned his shot the old-fashioned way. The Yankees should have recognized that months ago instead of clinging to a failed experiment because admitting a mistake was apparently harder than fixing one.

As for Anthony Volpe, I am thrilled he was sent down. The only thing better would have been for him to be traded and out of the Yankee organization. The Yankees kept insisting he'd figure it out while ignoring what everyone else was watching. Development isn't helped by pretending struggles don't exist.

For years, the Yankees acted as if admitting they were wrong about Volpe would somehow be worse than continuing to run him out there while the offense suffered. The Yankees failed.

Now they're asking George Lombard Jr. to clean up the mess they created. It would be the right move to allow Lombard the same leash they allowed Volpe. But listen, don't get it twisted, this move is absolutely the right one.

It also should have happened a long, long time ago.

If the Yankees are serious about changing the culture, this can't be where accountability ends. It shouldn't stop with Anthony Volpe. It shouldn't stop with one promotion.

The organization owes its fans more than a late-night announcement designed to soften the blow after another humiliating loss. They owe them honesty. They owe them urgency. And they owe them a front office willing to admit when it's wrong instead of hiding behind carefully timed press releases.

The fans forced this change. Not Brian Cashman. Not the Yankees' baseball operations department. Not ownership. The fans did. We should be proud. Us kept demanding accountability, they kept questioning the organization's blind loyalty to a failed experiment, and eventually the Yankees had nowhere left to hide.

George Lombard Jr. earned this opportunity. The Yankees simply took far too long to realize it. The only thing that would be better? Trade Volpe. Get him out of the Bronx and let's finally concentrate on baseball.

There comes a time when enough is enough. For me, that time is now. This isn't about losing a baseball game. This isn't about one bad trade deadline.

This is about watching the greatest franchise in American sports become a corporate shell of itself, run by executives who seem perfectly content selling yesterday's championships while refusing to build tomorrows.

The New York Yankees are no longer the Evil Empire. The Bronx is Dead. They're lifeless. They're predictable. They're stale. And worst of all, they've accepted it.

The 2026 trade deadline wasn't just disappointing. It was insulting. Insulting to every fan who shells out hundreds of dollars to sit in Yankee Stadium. Insulting to every parent buying $50 hats and $300 jerseys for their kids.

Insulting to every fan who still believes the words "World Series or Bust" actually mean something. Instead, Brian Cashman did what Brian Cashman has become famous for doing. He admired talent from a distance.

Adley Rutschman? Rumored. Luis Arráez? Rumored. Ryan Jeffers? Made too much sense. Tarik Skubal? Dream on. The Yankees "checked in."

That's become Cashman's championship parade. Checking in. Making calls. Having conversations. Congratulations. Someone get the man a participation trophy. The rest of baseball is making blockbuster deals while Brian Cashman is apparently collecting frequent flyer miles from traveling to the land of "almost."

At some point, Yankees fans have to stop applauding effort and start demanding results. And don't give me the tired excuses.

"The asking price was too high."

"The market wasn't favorable."

"We like our depth."

Spare me.

You're the New York Yankees. Act like it.

This is the same franchise that once made the rest of baseball lose sleep because if there was a superstar available, the Yankees were getting him. Now they're the team explaining why they couldn't. That's not the Yankees. That's a business pretending to be a baseball team.

Meanwhile, Aaron Judge is putting together one of the greatest careers we've ever witnessed in pinstripes. And what are the Yankees doing with that gift? Wasting it. Flat-out wasting it.

Championship windows don't stay open forever. Every season that passes without putting the absolute best roster around Aaron Judge is organizational malpractice. And don't tell me Luis Garcia Jr. is supposed to change that. Heliot Ramos is nice. Garcia is a nice addition. They are not a savior. They don't fix catcher. They don't solve shortstop. Pathetic.

He doesn't magically turn an inconsistent offense into a championship lineup. Putting a Band-Aid on a broken leg doesn't heal the fracture. Then there's Aaron Boone. Let's stop pretending this guy is the answer. In my opinion, Aaron Boone has been a bad manager for years.

Not because he's a bad person. Because the results speak for themselves. Every October ends with another excuse. Every press conference sounds exactly the same.

"We battled."

"We competed."

"We'll be ready tomorrow." Tomorrow?

Yankees fans have been hearing about tomorrow for seven years. Boone has become baseball's most predictable postgame interview. Every loss is wrapped in the same neatly packaged clichés while the same mistakes continue to happen. Poor fundamentals. Questionable in-game decisions. An offense that disappears in October. A clubhouse that too often looks flat when the moment gets big.

Enough already. But here's the twist.

Aaron Boone is also a pawn.

He's the lightning rod. The shield. The guy sent downstairs to answer for decisions made upstairs. Because the biggest problem isn't sitting in the dugout. It's sitting in the executive offices. Brian Cashman has become comfortable. Comfortable selling hope instead of championships. Comfortable reminding everyone about the dynasty he helped build nearly three decades ago.

Their fans are furious. The media is asking questions. The trade deadline came and went with more disappointment than direction. And ownership?

Nothing. Silence. No accountability. No explanation. No fire. George Steinbrenner would've been pacing the hallways demanding answers before the ink dried on the trade paperwork.

Today's Yankees?

They'll probably release another carefully worded statement about believing in the roster. Enough. The public backlash against Brian Cashman isn't some overreaction. It's years in the making.

Fans are sick of hearing about prospects that never become stars while established stars wear someone else's uniform. Fans are sick of hearing that the Yankees "liked" this player or "explored" that trade. Fans are sick of being told patience is a strategy. The Yankees don't have a catcher that strikes fear into anyone. They have glaring questions at shortstop. And no amount of spin changes that reality.

Pitching wins championships? Sure. But pitchers don't score runs. You still have to hit. And the Yankees have ignored offensive flaws for far too long.

Meanwhile, Aaron Judge keeps carrying this franchise on his back while the people responsible for helping him continue to come up short. So, here's my message.

Not to Aaron Judge. Not to the players wearing the uniform.

To Brian Cashman. To Aaron Boone. To Hal Steinbrenner. To Randy Levine.

You have taken the most recognizable franchise in baseball and turned it into an organization that celebrates almost. Almost making trades. Almost winning. Almost fixing obvious problems. Almost isn't good enough in the Bronx.

It never was.

And it never should be.

So yes...

Boycott this team.

Don't buy the tickets. Don't buy the jerseys. Don't reward complacency with your hard-earned money. Because the only language ownership understands isn't boos. It's empty seats. The New York Yankees were once the Evil Empire. Today the Bronx is Dead—the Yankees are a franchise living off ghosts while the executives who built this mess hide from the people who pay for it.

Until Brian Cashman is held accountable. Until Aaron Boone is no longer the manager. Until Hal Steinbrenner and Randy Levine stop hiding and explain to the fans why this has become acceptable, nothing changes.

And that's why I say it again.

YANKS NEED A REAL SHORTSTOP

The Yankees have a problem. No, not the bullpen. Not the bench. Not even third base. Their biggest problem is standing 90 feet from second base pretending everything is fine.

Anthony Volpe has become the player you're no longer allowed to criticize because someone always has another excuse ready.

"He'll figure it out."

"He's still young."

"There's nobody better."

Really?

The Yankees are trying to win a World Series—not host a three-year science experiment.

Before I dive in, let me say this: I've got nothing against Empire Sports Media. They do a nice job covering the Yankees. We simply see this one differently.

They recently wrote in Yankees’ deadline decision at shortstop could get ugly:

"I would not make a panicked trade just to say the Yankees did something. Shortstop is not a vending machine where you drop in a prospect and get an obvious upgrade. A rental needs to be better now, fit the clubhouse and leave the club with a clean plan when Volpe is still on the roster tomorrow."

Here's my response...

Who said anything about panic?

This isn't panic.

This is accountability.

The Yankees have given Anthony Volpe every opportunity imaginable. They've let him hit through slumps. They've defended his mistakes. They've convinced themselves—and tried convincing us—that tomorrow would always be better than today. Well... tomorrow keeps looking an awful lot like yesterday.

Empire Sports Media is right about one thing: shortstop isn't a vending machine. True. Nobody expects Brian Cashman to press "B-12" and have Cal Ripken Jr. fall into the slot. But that's also a straw-man argument.

Nobody is asking for perfection. We're asking for better. Better defense. Better at-bats. Better baseball. Because right now, "better than Anthony Volpe" isn't exactly the highest mountain to climb.

Then came the part that really made me scratch my head.

Empire Sports Media says any move should "leave the club with a clean plan when Volpe is still on the roster tomorrow."

But why? Who decided tomorrow has to include Anthony Volpe? That's the flaw in the entire argument. The Yankees don't owe Volpe a career. They owe Aaron Judge a championship. They owe Gerrit Cole, Max Fried, Cody Bellinger and every veteran in that clubhouse a roster built to win now.

If Volpe can't hold onto the job, then he loses the job. Welcome to professional sports. This organization has spent years protecting Anthony Volpe because of what he might become instead of evaluating what he actually is. That's backwards.

You don't hand someone baseball's most important infield position because they were once a top prospect. You earn it.

The Yankees keep talking about "championship standards." Great. Then start acting like it. Because championship organizations don't keep rewarding bad baseball simply because admitting a first-round pick didn't work out is uncomfortable.

That's pride talking. Not baseball. Again, no disrespect to Empire Sports Media. This isn't personal. It's just my opinion. Anthony Volpe's leash has become longer than his list of accomplishments, and every game the Yankees continue pretending he's the answer at shortstop is another game they're putting loyalty ahead of winning.

The Yankees had an obligation to upgrade the Shortstop and Catching position today. They failed. It's a disgrace to this organization.

For a franchise with 27 championships, that should never be acceptable.

A STANTON INJURY UPDATE YOU NEED

The Yankees are winning games, and that's great. But let's not pretend they're blowing the doors off anyone. There's a difference between stacking wins and looking like a team built to steamroll October, and right now, this club falls into the first category.

It's hard to dominate when Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Giancarlo Stanton are all wearing street clothes instead of pinstripes. That's three of the biggest bats in the lineup sitting on the shelf. No trade deadline pickup is replacing that kind of production.

That's why adding Luis García helps. He can chip in, lengthen the lineup, and take some of the pressure off everyone else. But let's be honest: García isn't the story. The Yankees' postseason hopes still hinge on getting their stars back healthy.

There is finally a little good news on the Stanton front.

According to reports, Stanton is expected to face rehabbing left-hander Carlos Rodón in a live batting practice session Monday, followed by Clarke Schmidt on Tuesday. Aaron Boone confirmed Stanton is getting close to that stage, though he stopped short of saying whether Stanton will actually swing the bat or simply stand in the box and let 95 mph fastballs whistle by. Baby steps, apparently. Boone doesn't really know anything anyway.

Judge's update? Not nearly as encouraging.

There's still no date for new imaging, meaning Judge isn't doing strength work, upper-body workouts, or baseball activities. Translation: don't expect him back anytime soon.

So yes, Stanton may beat Judge back to the Bronx. But neither player's timeline should've changed Brian Cashman's deadline plans. The Yankees had to act as if both were unavailable.

The Yankees deserve credit for hanging around. They've found ways to win while missing the heart of their lineup. But surviving August isn't the goal.

If this team wants to make noise in October, Luis García can help—but Judge, Bellinger, and Stanton have to be the ones carrying the orchestra.

HELIOT RAMOS & YANKS FINALIZE DEAL

The Yankees have reportedly finalized a trade to acquire outfielder Heliot Ramos from the Giants, getting another right-handed bat they've spent weeks chasing. Assuming the deal clears medicals, Ramos adds some much-needed thump to a lineup desperate for reinforcements.

And that's where the applause ends for me. I'm beside myself.

The Yankees struck out where it mattered most. No catcher. No shortstop. The front office's explanation? The market at those positions was "exceptionally thin."

That's a convenient excuse.

Championship-caliber organizations solve problems. This front office just explained why it couldn't. Once again, the Yankees settled for a partial fix while glaring holes remain untouched. If this was the plan, it's hard to call the trade deadline anything but another disappointing performance from Brian Cashman and company.

Boycott this friggin' team. The front office has driven it into the ground.

Baseball's trade season always feels like a poker game where everyone insists they're not bluffing—right up until an ace disappears across the table. If reports are accurate, the Boston Red Sox are on the verge of landing star switch-hitting catcher Adley Rutschman from the Baltimore Orioles in a blockbuster deal that could reshape the American League East.

For Boston, it's the kind of move that says, "We're done rebuilding. Hand us the chips." Adding one of baseball's premier catchers to an already dangerous lineup would instantly make the Red Sox better.

And then there's the Bronx.

If the Red Sox are loading up while the Yankees stand still, the question practically asks itself:

Brian Cashman, where are you?

Are you really content with Austin Wells? Wearing an orange chest protector as a tribute to Thurman Munson is a classy gesture—but how about paying tribute with the bat? Thurman built his legacy by producing when it mattered, not by hitting .162.

It's a freaking gimmick.

The Yankees aren't a franchise that celebrates effort alone; they're measured by results. If your biggest rival is making franchise-altering moves while you're watching a catcher struggle to stay above the Mendoza Line, that's not patience—that's complacency.

The Yankees don't need nostalgia. They need production. Wake up, Brian Cashman.

NO RIGHT TURNS: IS CASHMAN STEERING YANKEES LINEUP INTO A LEFTY DEAD END?

In the latest episode of "what the hell is Brian Cashman doing now?" we focus on the next player that the Yankees acquired that isn't what the Yankees really need. We have a long list of needs so in theory finding something to chase that isn't what we need should be hard, right?

Not unless you are Cashman. He has this knack for dumpster diving for junk. I won't even call it shopping in the clearance section because even the clearance bin would be insulted. The Yankees need better relief pitching, sound outfield depth, a catcher, the balls to dump Anthony Volpe and right handed hitting. None of that has happened....

But what has happened is the Yankees traded for Nationals First baseman Luis Garcia Jr. Who else is scratching their head right now besides me? It's crazy and true and you can read more about it HERE. The Yankees certainly need a boost offensively because they are awful without Aaron Judge so the connection to Garcia Jr makes sense when he has a .283 BA this season. Dig a little deeper and stats show he has a .293 BA against right handed pitchers.

This team certainly needs offense. A guy that hits near 300 is great, but they Yankees need more of that. One guy isn't going to bring the change this team needs without addressing positional needs also. But aside from that, it's insane because this move doesn't make sense. Adding another guy that plays first base is insane. He's not an upgrade over Paul Goldschmidt and what about Ben Rice? That's just another reason to make him more dispensable.

It's just a giant log jam. He can play first base against a righty pitcher and then Rice can DH while Goldy rides the bench. When a lefty is on the mound, Goldy can play first and the Yankees can shuffle DH. That's exactly what happens here. It's a cluster-you-know-what and I say that because Garcia Jr has played second base and shortstop also but he was awful at both positions so it's not like you can sit Jazz Chisholm or Volpe expecting an upgrade. It's just a giant puzzle that Aaron Boone is gonna have to piece together every night and it's one more opportunity for him to screw up. He was already good at that before adding another infielder to the equation so this could get even uglier.

Look am I glad Cashman finally woke up from his nap? Sure. I hate complacency. I wanted to see moves made more than anyone.....this one just doesn't fix any of the Yankees major weaknesses. So without fixing those this accomplishes nothing. We don't need another first baseman and we don't need anymore left handed bats for crying out loud! Sorry, not sorry.....but I call it like I see it.

STRATEGY OR PANIC?

If Brian Cashman's trade deadline strategy is "wait and see," Yankee fans have seen enough.

The latest name connected to the Bombers is Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos, and honestly, he makes a ton of sense, but where did this come from?

He's a right-handed bat, mashes lefties, can hold down the outfield while Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and Giancarlo Stanton try to get healthy, and he's under team control through 2029.

In other words... exactly the kind of player the Yankees should already be making a serious run at.

But this a strategy or panic?

Remember, the Yankees watched Lane Thomas become a Brave because Atlanta actually did what contenders are supposed to do—they identified a need and pulled the trigger. While Cashman was probably still "gauging the market," their GM was introducing his newest outfielder.

That's the difference.

The Yankees don't lose out on players because they don't know who they want. They lose out because someone else wants them more and the Yanks are too slow to the take.

Now they're pivoting to Ramos, but it feels like "Well... who's left?" rather than a Plan A. Like a roll of the dice. I don't know, I don't feel great about it. Also, that's not a strategy on how you win a division.

Let's be honest about the situation. Judge is hurt. Bellinger is hurt. Stanton is working his way back. The outfield has become a revolving door, and the infield still finds new and creative ways to turn routine double plays into adventure films. Just ask Volpe.

Every GM in baseball knows the Yankees need help. That's exactly why sitting on your hands is the worst strategy imaginable. Cashman has always loved the bargain aisle. He wants to make the trade where everyone says, "Wow, he really stole that guy."

Sometimes you don't steal the player. Sometimes you just pay the price because your team needs him.

Heliot Ramos is worth pursuing yes, but if the Yankees spend the next two days "checking in," "doing their homework," and "remaining engaged," don't be surprised when another team beats them to the punch... again.

At some point, Brian Cashman has to decide whether he's trying to win the trade...

...or win the World Series.

Right now, it doesn't look like he's doing either.

YANKEES WERE INTERESTED, BUT THE PHILLIES GOT ARRAEZ

So close? Not really.

The Yankees have become baseball's version of the guy who spends all day browsing Amazon and never clicks "Buy Now."

Another target is off the board.

The Phillies are acquiring Luis Arráez and reliever Caleb Kilian from the Giants, according to multiple reports, while San Francisco receives top pitching prospect Ramon Marquez and reliever Marty Gair. It's a move that makes a contender even deeper.

And the Yankees? They get another participation ribbon for being "interested."

New York had been heavily connected to Arráez before the deadline. Insiders like Jon Heyman reported the Yankees liked the fit and discussed the three-time batting champion. Of course they did. A lineup missing Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Giancarlo Stanton could've used one of the best contact hitters in baseball.

Instead, they watched Philadelphia make the move.

This is becoming a frustrating trend. The Yankees kick the tires, make a few calls, leak their interest... and then someone else lands the player.

Another opportunity. Another "almost."

At some point, Brian Cashman has to stop window shopping and start checking out.

YANKS MARCHING

In the mid 90’s the “Jam Band Movement” hit this country like the British Invasion of the early 1960s. Suddenly songs elongated from around 3 and a half minutes to 15 minutes of vamping, flourishes, solos and breakdowns. Some of it was ok…at first. However, it wore out its welcome quicker than your typical jam band tune.

Most of those puka shell necklace wearing outfits - Rusted Root, Widespread Panic, Dispatch and Big Head Todd & The Monsters – have drifted into the ether. There is one band that, in many ways, have become the New York Yankees of Jam Band music…THE DAVE MATTHEWS BAND.

Much like the Bronx Bombers, this crew packs them in on the road. They have a massive, loyal following. Even causal music fans are familiar with their act…the way someone who’s never watched baseball knows who the Yankees are. Unfortunately, the comparisons aren’t all a good thing.

I recently saw David and his gang…twice…in 3 weeks’ time. The first time in Camden just across the bridge from Philadelphia (I bet someone I was with that no matter what we’d hear a E A G L E S! spelling chant…you never disappoint, Philly…. awful.)

The second show was in the Insurance Capital of the World…Hartford, CT. What was the takeaway? Well, I still like many of Matthews’ songs. Dave and his band are very talented and the rush of memories of past shows made nostalgia hit like the contact high hanging in the air like a sad, hippie quilt. The other thing I left with is how formulaic it has all become. Sure, the set list is different each night but the rest…the rest is just the same old song. Dave is quirky. He offers up a few, “Thank y’all very, very much. We hope you’re having a nice time.” He may toss in a political nugget or dance like a Muppet with his loose leg hops and struts. Then we are treated to DMB’s Free Bird. A song as tied to a Dave Matthews show as New York, New York is to Yankee Stadium.

It’s catchy. Everyone knows the words…or has made up their own. It’s a great ending song…but it’s canned. The band walks off and gives us the 7-minute rest period before returning for the encore. It was fine. I enjoyed the show…but not as much as I once did.

The Yanks are the DMB. HUGE! DYNASTIC! CHAMPIONSHIP PROVEN! EXCITING...in the 1990s. Back when Stick Michaels was the “Tour Manager”.

The club is now like the shows I saw. They dine out on old stories. They still bring in the audiences. They make you nostalgic with Paul O’Neill Nights, Bernie Bobble Heads or letting us watch Nelly groove one to Nick Swisher so he can go yard.

Brian Cashman is the record exec using yesterday and loyal fan base to hold down a job he does poorly.

He knows the formula gets us just “good enough”…but that’s it? We do the same song every year and get the same story when it goes upside down at season’s end. We leave the ballpark in the Bronx the way I left the Dave Matthews shows…I’m a fan…but not like I was.

Sure, they’re still the Yanks. He’s still Dave Matthews…and even to a punker like me the dude is worth seeing. But it’s not new…it’s not evolving.

Look, we have Judge. We do have great pitchers. And Dave has put out a new song here and there that is solid…but it’s touring the old stuff to let older-ish folks from the 90s feel like high school and college kids again. It’s not about winning new fans or bringing in a championship. The formula is there…so the dollars will follow…until they don’t.

So, take these chances…place them in a box…until a quieter time…lights down you up and die.

I’ll always like Dave and his talented band. I will always love the New York Yankees…but the shows pale to the 90s versions.

REJECTED: CASHMAN PUBLICLY STUFFED IN A LOCKER

There was a time when Brian Cashman could pick up the phone and get a deal done. Those days feel like they're long gone.

The latest example? The Padres reportedly rejected the Yankees' offer of Will Warren for left-handed reliever Adrián Morejón. Not a blockbuster. Not a bidding war. Just a flat-out "no."

That's a bad look for Cashman.

Morejón is exactly the type of reliever the Yankees need—a power lefty who can dominate late innings and stabilize a bullpen that's been asked to do too much. If Cashman identified him as a priority and still couldn't get a deal across the finish line, it raises an uncomfortable question: Has the rest of baseball stopped buying what Brian Cashman is selling?

For years, Cashman has coasted on the reputation of being one of the game's elite executives. But reputations eventually expire if the results don't keep coming. Lately, the Yankees seem to be involved in every rumor and finish with nothing but another missed opportunity.

And now Cashman has created another problem—one of his own making. What else is new. Will Warren now knows the Yankees were willing to ship him out.

Whether that's part of the business or not, it's awkward. Every pitcher will tell you they understand trades happen, but understanding it and living it are two different things. Warren now has to walk back into that clubhouse, take the ball every fifth day, and pretend he didn't just find out the organization tried to send him packing.

That's not exactly a confidence builder. Cashman didn't improve the bullpen. He didn't land Morejón. Instead, he publicly exposed one of his own young starters as trade bait and walked away with absolutely nothing to show for it.

That's the real embarrassment. No new reliever. No upgraded roster. Just an uncomfortable situation for Will Warren and another reminder that Brian Cashman isn't the feared dealmaker he once was.

In the end, everyone loses for now. Who knows what happens next however. The Yankees still need bullpen help.

Brian Cashman once again looks like a general manager whose reputation has become much bigger than his results.

Well, look who's awake.

After what felt like an eternity of watching the offense sputter and hearing fans beg for reinforcements, Brian Cashman finally reached for the caffeine. The Yankees have acquired first baseman Luis Garcia Jr. from the Washington Nationals, giving a lineup in desperate need of life another weapon.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post first reported that the Yankees were pushing hard to get a deal done, and they did just that. According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Nationals will receive four players in return. USA Today's Bob Nightengale identified right-hander Yovanny Cruz as part of the package, while The Athletic's Spencer Nusbaum reported that right-handers Jack Cebert, Ben Grable, and Jake Bird are also headed to Washington.

Make no mistake—this is a good baseball move.

The Yankees weren't going to slug their way into October with wishful thinking and lineup cards that looked more like crossed fingers than a plan. They needed more production. They needed another bat. Most importantly, they needed to show the clubhouse—and the fan base—that they weren't content watching the offense disappear every other night.

Funny enough, we just posted about this. Just a short time ago, BYB published a piece asking whether Brian Cashman was finally waking up from his deadline nap. Turns out the alarm clock worked.

Garcia Jr. may not solve every problem in the Bronx, but he represents something the Yankees have been missing lately: action. And for a team chasing wins instead of excuses, that's a welcome change.

If there's one thing we've learned about the 2026 Yankees, it's this: pitching isn't the problem. Scoring runs is.

Over their last five games, Yankees starters have allowed just two earned runs, and somehow this team managed to stumble to a 2-3 record. Let that sink in. Your pitching staff practically throws shutouts every night, and the offense still can't cash in. That's not bad luck. That's roster construction.

So when reports surfaced that Brian Cashman is aggressively trying to land Nationals slugger Luis García Jr., it was the first rumor in a while that actually made sense.

According to multiple reports, the Yankees are pushing hard to complete a deal before the deadline, with pitching prospect Jack Cebert reportedly a key name being discussed. Whether that's ultimately enough remains to be seen, but at least the Yankees appear to recognize what everyone else has known for weeks.

This lineup is running on fumes.

Aaron Judge is hurt. Cody Bellinger is on the injured list. Giancarlo Stanton is still working his way back and hasn't been available to provide the thunder this lineup desperately needs. Every night feels like the Yankees are hoping someone accidentally runs into a baseball.

That's not exactly a championship strategy. Luis García Jr. changes that immediately.

He's putting together the best offensive season of his career, leading the American League with a .560 slugging percentage while launching 23 home runs and driving in 76 runs. Those aren't empty numbers on a rebuilding club. That's legitimate middle-of-the-order production, exactly what the Yankees have been missing while their stars recover.

Now, yes, there are legitimate questions. García is left-handed, and the Yankees have spent much of this deadline searching for right-handed bats. He's also primarily a first baseman, where Ben Rice and Paul Goldschmidt have already been sharing duties. On paper, it isn't the cleanest fit.

Then again...

Since when has this offense been in any position to turn down a hitter because he bats from the wrong side of the plate?

When you're struggling to score two runs with a pitching staff that's practically begging for support, you stop worrying about perfect roster symmetry. You worry about getting someone who can actually change a game with one swing.

That's García. The irony here is almost impossible to ignore. Brian Cashman spent the first half of the season assembling a roster that looked powerful on paper but became painfully dependent on Aaron Judge staying healthy. The moment Judge went down, the entire offense collapsed like a cheap folding chair.

Maybe this trade is Cashman finally admitting what everyone else already knew. This team needs another legitimate run producer.

Will Luis García Jr. solve every problem? Of course not. Aaron Boone still has to manage this club. The front office still has plenty to answer for after another season of offensive inconsistency and questionable roster decisions. One hitter won't magically erase months of questionable planning.

But for once, the Yankees seem to be targeting the actual problem instead of pretending it doesn't exist. Imagine that.

If Cashman can pull this one off before the deadline, it would be one of the few moves this season that actually feels proactive instead of desperate. And after watching this offense waste brilliant pitching performances night after night, Yankees fans deserve at least one reason to believe somebody in the front office has been paying attention.

It's recognized around the globe, worn by celebrities, tourists, die-hard baseball fans, and people who have never watched a single inning of baseball. But here's a question that might surprise even the most knowledgeable Yankees fan:

Did you know the Yankees weren't the original organization to use the famous interlocking "NY" design?

That's right.

Long before Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio or Derek Jeterever wore it, the now-famous emblem had an entirely different purpose—one rooted in courage, sacrifice, and New York City history.

It started with heroism. The story begins in 1877, when legendary jeweler Louis Comfort Tiffany of Tiffany & Co. designed a New York City Police Department Medal of Valor.

Think about that for a second. One of the most recognizable logos in sports actually began as a tribute to heroes.

Enter "Big Bill" Devery. Years later, Yankees co-owner William "Big Bill" Devery entered the picture.

Before becoming involved in baseball, Devery served as the Chief of the New York City Police Department, making him very familiar with the Medal of Valor and its distinctive interlocking design.

When the American League franchise relocated from Baltimore and became the New York Highlanders in 1903, the club was still searching for an identity that represented New York itself. In 1905, the Highlanders experimented with an interlocking "NY" on parts of their uniforms. It wasn't yet the polished emblem fans recognize today, but it planted the seed.

By 1909, the organization officially adopted a refined version of the Tiffany-inspired interlocking "NY" for its caps and uniform sleeves.

The rest, as they say, is history. Over the next century, the interlocking "NY" became synonymous with excellence.

It witnessed:

27 World Series championships.
Legends from Ruth to Gehrig.
The DiMaggio era.
Mantle's switch-hitting greatness.
Reggie's October heroics.
The Core Four dynasty.
Aaron Judge carrying the franchise into a new generation.

But despite everything the logo has come to represent in baseball, its origins remain tied to something much deeper than wins and championships.

It began with public service. It began with bravery. It began with New York City.

And let me go further. Many newer fans also don't realize that the Yankees weren't always called the Yankees.

The franchise actually began as the Baltimore Orioles of the American League in 1901—not to be confused with today's Orioles franchise. Financial problems forced the club to relocate to New York in 1903, where it became the New York Highlanders, named in part because their ballpark sat atop one of Manhattan's highest points in Washington Heights.

The nickname "Yankees" slowly gained popularity through newspaper headlines because it fit more easily than "Highlanders." By 1913, after moving into the Polo Grounds, "Yankees" had become the club's official identity.

The famous interlocking "NY," however, had already become part of the team's visual identity years earlier. While the interlocking "NY" became timeless, it wasn't the organization's only historic logo.

The Yankees' second official logo introduced the now-famous image of Uncle Sam's top hat resting on a baseball bat inside a baseball, complete with stars and patriotic imagery. That design evolved over the decades into the club's primary corporate logo and remains one of baseball's most recognizable marks, even though the interlocking "NY" continues to be the symbol players wear on the field.

It's fitting, really. One logo represents America. The other represents New York. Together, they've become inseparable from Yankees history.

It's amazing how many fans wear the interlocking "NY" every single day without knowing its remarkable backstory. What began in 1877 as Louis Tiffany's elegant Medal of Valor honoring courageous New York police officers eventually became the emblem of the most successful franchise in baseball history.

The Yankees didn't invent the design. They immortalized it. And maybe that's the coolest part of the story. Sometimes the greatest symbols aren't created for sports at all.

Sometimes they're born from history, courage, and the spirit of a city—and the Yankees were fortunate enough to carry that legacy onto the baseball field for more than a century.

That's baseball history worth remembering.

SKUBAL OFF THE BOARD & THE YANKEES GOT UGATZ

The trade deadline is supposed to separate contenders from pretenders. Saturday night, the Dodgers reminded everyone exactly who they are.

Tarik Skubal, arguably the best left-handed pitcher in baseball and a back-to-back American League Cy Young winner, is headed to Los Angeles. The rich got richer, adding another ace to a rotation that already features Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and with Tyler Glasnow working their way back.

That's what organizations do when winning is the only thing that matters.

The Braves weren't sitting around either. They landed Lane Thomas to improve their club.

And the Yankees?

Brian Cashman's big splash so far is... two prospects from Pittsburgh for Camilo Doval that most fans have never even heard of.

Seriously?

Is this really how the trade deadline is going to play out? Because if it is, it's complete garbage.

Year after year, Cashman talks about being aggressive. Year after year, the Yankees get lapped by organizations that actually understand the assignment. The Dodgers identify elite talent and go get it. The Yankees identify "organizational depth" and hope nobody notices.

This isn't about demanding every superstar in baseball. It's about showing some urgency. The Yankees have obvious holes on this roster, yet Cashman continues to operate like he's protecting the farm system for a future that never seems to arrive.

Enough already.

The Yankees aren't supposed to be stockpiling mystery prospects while the Dodgers are collecting Cy Young winners. They're supposed to be chasing championships.

There's still time to change the narrative, but the clock is ticking. If Cashman's answer to the Dodgers landing Skubal and the Braves adding Lane Thomas is a pair of anonymous minor leaguers, then don't insult Yankees fans by calling this a successful deadline.

Call it what it is.

We may be looking at another failure from a front office that's become far too comfortable with mediocrity. And if this deadline ends the way it's started, it will once again expose the biggest weakness in the Yankees organization—and it isn't on the field.

It's sitting in Brian Cashman's chair.

DON'T LAUGH. MICKEY MONIAK ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE

Brian Cashman has developed an odd little hobby over the past few years: collecting former Colorado Rockies. DJ LeMahieu worked... until he didn't. Adam Ottavino had his moments. Ryan McMahon and Jake Bird are already in the fold, and Angel Chivilli joined the pipeline. So if Mickey Moniak is next, don't act surprised.

Actually, it might be one of the smarter under-the-radar moves the Yankees could make.

No, Moniak isn't Juan Soto. He's not the blockbuster name that'll dominate SportsCenter for a week. What he is, though, is a 28-year-old left-handed hitter who's finally looking like a legitimate major leaguer. Through 71 games, he's slashing .279/.322/.561 with 17 home runs and an OPS north of .880. That's not Coors Field smoke and mirrors either. The bat speed is real, the power is legitimate, and he's showing the kind of athleticism the Yankees' lineup has desperately lacked.

Here's the best part: he won't cost a king's ransom.

The Yankees don't need another headline. They need players who can actually help them win baseball games. Moniak can play all three outfield spots, runs well enough, hits from the left side, and remains under team control through next season. Those are exactly the types of players smart organizations target instead of chasing the biggest name available.

Of course, there's risk. Moniak spent years looking like another No. 1 overall pick who simply wasn't good enough. But baseball careers aren't always linear, and sometimes players figure it out later than expected.

If Colorado is willing to move him, Cashman should absolutely make the call.

Not every trade has to be flashy. Sometimes the best deadline addition is the one nobody sees coming. And if the Yankees are serious about adding athleticism and left-handed pop without emptying the farm system, Mickey Moniak checks more boxes than most fans probably realize.

ARE THE YANKEES READY TO MOVE VOLPE?

God, I hope so.

I've reached my limit with Anthony Volpe. I used to defend this guy. I've waited for the breakout. I've bought into the "he's still young" argument. I've watched the flashes of brilliance and convinced myself they would eventually outweigh the mistakes. They haven't. And then I got annoyed. I researched why they babied this kid as long as they have. Reported about it in: HOW YANKEE SCOUTS LOST THEIR WAY IN THE VOLPE RECRUITMENT. What I found was startling. And so, things changed for me. This kid is a special treatment case. Not earned... it's who you know.

Volpe is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Defensive miscues continue to pile up, the bat has never become the weapon the Yankees envisioned, and every game seems to feature another reminder that this experiment simply isn't working.

The good news? I'm not the only one who feels this way anymore.

For the first time since Volpe arrived in the Bronx, legitimate baseball insiders are openly discussing the possibility that the Yankees could move him before his value sinks any further. That's a significant shift. This isn't social media overreaction. This is baseball people acknowledging that the Yankees may finally be ready to pivot.

And honestly? It's about time. the chatter is getting louder. The rumors aren't coming from one source. They're coming from several respected voices, and they're all pointing in the same direction.

Jim Bowden has floated one of the more intriguing ideas, suggesting the Yankees could package Volpe with reliever Camilo Doval in a deal with the Minnesota Twins for catcher Ryan Jeffers. Ryan Garcia has reported that rival clubs continue to show genuine interest in Volpe. Why? Because he's still just 25 years old, he's inexpensive, and another organization may believe a change of scenery unlocks the player scouts once projected him to become.

That's the key.

The Yankees may no longer believe they can fix him.

Another team might.

Devon Platana went a step further by predicting Volpe could be one of the first underperforming Yankees shown the door if Brian Cashman decides this club needs a serious shakeup before the deadline. That's not exactly shocking.

If the Yankees are going to change the direction of this roster, they can't keep clinging to former top prospects simply because of where they were drafted.

Now look, for me, Ryan Jeffers makes too much sense. If Minnesota is willing to listen, Ryan Jeffers should absolutely be near the top of Brian Cashman's wish list. The Yankees have desperately needed offensive production from the catcher position, and Jeffers immediately upgrades the lineup. He gives the Yankees another legitimate bat while stabilizing a position that's been an offensive black hole for far too long.

Would it hurt to give up Volpe? Not even alittle. Maybe he'd cry which only means to me that he's been babied too much by the Yankees organization. It also solves two problems at once. Minnesota gets a young shortstop they can develop. The Yankees get a catcher capable of helping them win now. That's exactly the kind of baseball trade contenders make.

Then there's CJ Abrams of the Nationals. I don't actually see this happening, but wow what a rumor. If the Washington Nationals decide to entertain offers, Abrams would represent everything the Yankees hoped Volpe would become. He's an All-Star caliber shortstop with game-changing speed, legitimate power and the type of offensive production that transforms a lineup. While injuries have forced other Yankees stars to carry more of the load, Abrams has emerged as one of the most dynamic young players in baseball.

Replacing Volpe with Abrams isn't just an upgrade. It's a statement. It shows us Yankee fans that the Yankees are actually series 9 years into Boone's managerial career.

And there's another catcher worth watching by the way. If Minnesota asks for too much, Cincinnati's Tyler Stephenson becomes another fascinating alternative.

Stephenson has been mentioned repeatedly in trade discussions because he fills the exact hole the Yankees need to address. He's a proven offensive catcher capable of lengthening the lineup while giving the pitching staff a dependable presence behind the plate.

Would the Reds want Volpe as part of that conversation? Given his age and years of club control, they just might. Plus, I was convinced last year Volpe would become a Red for some strange reason. Google it. It just makes sense to me.

And here's the other reality nobody wants to ignore. George Lombard Jr. is coming.

The Yankees' top prospect continues to impress throughout the minor leagues, and there's a growing belief inside baseball that he's the organization's future at shortstop. If the Yankees truly believe Lombard is the better long-term answer, why keep forcing Volpe into a role he hasn't fully claimed?

Sometimes the hardest move is admitting you were wrong. Sometimes it's also the smartest one. Think about that.

But look, it's time, and this isn't about piling on Anthony Volpe. No, I don't think he's a legit major leaguer, but I also don't hate the kid as a person. He was put into this situation but a bunch of guys in a room that chose him because a scout in the Yankees organization knew him.

In the beginning, not knowing that? I wanted him to succeed. But the Yankees don't hand out trophies for patience. They are supposed to chase championships.

If Volpe's biggest value now is bringing back a catcher like Ryan Jeffers, opening the door for George Lombard Jr., or becoming part of a blockbuster for someone like CJ Abrams, then Brian Cashman has to seriously consider pulling the trigger.

Holding onto a player because you're afraid of watching him succeed somewhere else isn't a strategy. It's fear.

And the Yankees have spent enough time hoping Anthony Volpe becomes something he hasn't shown he can consistently be. Sometimes the best move for both sides is admitting it's over.

This might finally be that moment.

THAT TIME RIZZUTO GOT "TRICKED" BY MEAT LOAF

His colorful broadcasts, unmistakable enthusiasm, and ability to make listeners feel like they were sitting beside him in the Yankee Stadium press box had made him a New York institution. Whether he was describing a double play or drifting into a story about family, food, or the neighborhood, Rizzuto had a way of making every game feel personal.

Meanwhile, a young rock singer named Meat Loaf was putting the finishing touches on what would become one of the most successful albums ever recorded, Bat Out of Hell. One song in particular, Paradise by the Dashboard Light, needed something authentic. It wasn't enough to have someone imitate a baseball announcer. They needed a real one.

GOOD LEADERS DON'T LOSE THEIR MARBLES LIKE THIS GUY

The last few games have been weird. Yesterday a 2-1 loss and Boone was clearly unraveling and the day before, the Yankees handed the White Sox a game they had no business losing with a horrendous bad throw that didn't need to happen. The more I think about it, with all these mistakes aligning... it's bad leadership.

Yup, I'm a broken record, I know. But last night it was pure frustration and being snippy to the press, "We gotta score a freaking point." Yup, he's losing it.

Good leaders don't lose it. They fix it.

That game the other night for example perfectly summed up everything that has been wrong with the Yankees under Boone's leadership. It wasn't just another frustrating loss. It was another example of a manager who refuses to hold his players accountable, and that's exactly why the Yankees continue to make the same mistakes over and over again.

The defining moment came in the late innings. Instead of simply dealing with Andrew Benintendi at the plate, Yankees catcher Ali Sánchez attempted an unnecessary pickoff throw to third base. The throw sailed into left field, allowing the tying run to score. The White Sox eventually won in 10 innings after Edgar Quero drove in the winning run.

The play never should have happened.

The White Sox had struggled all night with runners in scoring position. The Yankees were exactly where they wanted to be. All Sánchez had to do was hold the baseball and let the pitcher attack Benintendi. That's baseball. Instead, the Yankees handed the White Sox life with a completely self-inflicted mistake.

What's even more disturbing wasn't the throw—it was Aaron Boone's response afterward.

By the way, here's a commentator called @Gruntbaseball and a clip. Love this. I isolated it.

Boone defended the decision, saying he had no problem with Sánchez attempting the play because "we're big leaguers, and we're not gonna not do things." Ali Sánchez echoed the same sentiment, saying it was simply poor execution.

No. That's the wrong answer.

Sometimes the smartest baseball play is doing nothing.

There was absolutely no reason to risk throwing the baseball. There was no desperate situation requiring an aggressive play. The Yankees already had the advantage. The correct baseball decision was to keep the ball in your hand, make a quality pitch to Benintendi, and force the White Sox to earn the tying run.

Instead, Boone dismissed what was clearly a terrible baseball decision as if it were merely a bad throw.

That mentality is exactly why this team continues to make the same mistakes year after year.

Accountability starts with the manager. When players know their manager will publicly defend every mistake and explain it away instead of calling it what it is, they stop fearing consequences. Mental mistakes become acceptable. Poor baseball IQ becomes normalized. Players begin believing that every decision is fine as long as the execution is better next time.

Championship organizations don't operate that way. Winning organizations demand accountability. They teach situational baseball. They understand there are moments to be aggressive and moments to simply take the out in front of you. The Yankees under Boone consistently fail in those moments because they lack discipline, not talent.

This isn't an isolated incident, either.

For years, Boone-managed teams have repeatedly struggled with the fundamentals—base running, defensive execution, extra-inning strategy, bullpen management, lineup decisions, and situational awareness. Time after time, the Yankees beat themselves with preventable mistakes. Time after time, Boone's postgame explanation is some version of "execution wasn't there," rather than acknowledging that the decision itself was flawed.

Analysts and myself included have questioned Boone's explanation, arguing that "we're not gonna not do things" completely misses the point. It's just a stupid statement. A manager's job isn't to encourage action for the sake of action. It's to recognize game situations and know when the smartest play is to simply hold the baseball.

That isn't playing scared.

That's playing winning baseball.

Instead, Boone continues to blur the line between aggressiveness and recklessness, and his players have followed his lead. The result is a team that too often loses games because of self-inflicted wounds rather than being beaten by better opponents. At some point, this stops being about one catcher making one terrible throw. It becomes about the manager who continually refuses to hold anyone accountable.

That's why the same mistakes keep happening. That's why the Yankees continue to underachieve despite having one of the most talented rosters in baseball.

And that's why, as long as Aaron Boone continues to excuse poor decisions instead of correcting them, it's difficult to believe the Yankees will ever win another World Series under his leadership.

Looking back on these losses a few days later, it bothers me. It feels less like just another chapter in a familiar story. Just add it to the growing list of games Aaron Boone has managed away with poor decisions, weak accountability, and postgame excuses.

Until the culture changes, the results won't either...hence 2 losses in a row to the Chisox... YES, THE CHISOX.

Us fans are in hell.

THE YANKEES WILL SELL THE SAME TRADE DEADLINE LIE

My opinion of course, but it feels the same. Every July, the Yankees roll out the same sales pitch.

"We're going to be aggressive."

"We're going to get what we need."

"We're committed to being competitive at the trade deadline."

It's become as predictable as Old-Timers' Day. Then the deadline comes and goes, the impact players end up somewhere else, and we're treated to the same tired explanation: "There just wasn't a good fit."

Sound familiar? It should, because Yankees fans have been hearing this script for years. The names change. The excuses don't.

George Steinbrenner never wanted to hear about "the right fit." He wanted the player who made the Yankees better. Whether you agreed with every move The Boss made or not, one thing was never in doubt—he hated standing still. If the Yankees had a chance to improve, he expected his front office to make it happen. Somewhere along the way, that urgency gave way to caution, calculated risk assessments, and post-deadline explanations. That's not the standard Steinbrenner built, and it's certainly not the one Yankees fans were taught to expect.

Now we're hearing that Tarik Skubal is probably staying put in Detroit or, if he does get moved, the Yankees aren't expected to be the team that lands him. That's baseball. Not every blockbuster is meant to happen, and no one expects Brian Cashman to empty the farm system for every available star.

But here's the problem.

If the Yankees miss on Skubal, are they going to pivot to another legitimate difference-maker? Or are we headed for another deadline where they convince themselves—and try to convince us—that a handful of complementary pieces somehow equals a championship push?

We've seen this movie before... last year.

Last year's deadline was the ultimate slap in the face to a fan base that's been begging for meaningful upgrades. Instead of attacking the club's biggest needs, the Yankees loaded up on three closers. Three. As if the bullpen was the glaring weakness, despite already having Devin Williams and Luke Weaver. It caused mass confusion for the pen.

For us fans? That's what we got. Not a lineup-changing bat. Not a frontline starter. More relievers.

And how did that work out? The Yankees didn't make the deep postseason run everyone expected, and those deadline moves looked more like checking boxes than chasing a championship. Yet, Cashman called it "Mission Accomplished". What a joke.

That's why fans aren't buying the promises anymore and if they are, they shouldn't.

This organization loves talking about its championship standard. It loves reminding everyone that the Yankees don't rebuild—they reload. Great. Then prove it. Championship windows don't stay open forever. Aaron Judge isn't getting younger. Gerrit Cole isn't going to pitch forever. Every season that passes without making the bold move when it's sitting right in front of you is another missed opportunity.

Nobody is asking the Yankees to win every trade. Us Fans are asking them to stop hiding behind the same excuses every July. If there isn't a fit for Skubal, then go find another impact player. Don't come back with a couple of depth pieces and expect everyone to applaud because you "tried."

Yankees fans have heard enough about trying. They want results.

The Yankees don't need another press conference explaining why a deal didn't happen. They need a front office that remembers the pinstripes are supposed to represent championships, not excuses. Until that changes, us fans have every right to question whether this organization is still operating like the Yankees—or just pretending to.
