Then she decided to break my chops about it! How dare she. Well look, I guess it's time to explain where my heads at when it comes to Jones. Here we go...

There are two types of baseball fans in this world: the ones who panic at a strikeout… and the ones who understand that sometimes a strikeout is just the price of admission for absolute chaos.

If you’re watching Spencer Jones right now and clutching your pearls every time he swings through a pitch, take a deep breath and open a history book—specifically the chapter on Reggie Jackson, patron saint of “yeah he struck out, but did you see where that last ball landed?”

Because the parallels? Oh, they’re spicy. Let’s start with the obvious: Spencer Jones is basically a walking science experiment in power. No, I am not talking about Spencer Jones. It's no secret by now I am OVER that guy. Casey digs him, I don't. NEXT.

So who is next? I'm watching Elmer Rodriguez. If you don't know who he is, he's the Yankees number three prospect who opened eyes at spring training. It was easy to watch that other guy who is overhyped. The real story just might be Elmer!

In all my time here, I have a history for getting excited about pitching prospects and Elmer is my latest. I am anxiously awaiting his next start to see how he builds upon his impressive start of the season. In three starts, he has pitched 15.2 innings, struck out 13 and has a ridiculous 1.15 ERA. In his last start he threw first pitch strikes to 17 of the 21 batters he faced. Yes, that gets me excited.

Another thing that gets me excited, is when we can stead some good talent from Boston. We did that with Cam Schlittler and Elmer could be another good pick up. Schlittler popped on the scene in a big way last season and Elmer had a good season in the minors. In 27 games last season, he struck out 176 batters and held opponents to a .192 BA. He's got a good sinker in his pitching arsenal and all good things that give me tingles. Boston drafted him in the fourth round in 2021 and traded him to us in exchange for catcher Carlos Narvaez and that could pay dividends in the future.

It's early in the season, and he has more to prove in Triple-A but you never know what the Yankees may need later in the season. If he continues to progress, he could force the Yankees hand and make it impossible for the Yankees not to give him a call up. Right now a lot has to go wrong with Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon getting closer to return but there have been question marks with Luis Gil and his ability to be a reliable starter after he has regressed since his 2024 rookie season.

The Yankees have proven they are not shy about calling young studs up. We saw it last year with Schlittler, and if Elmer keeps pitching the way he is now the Yankees would be stupid not to give him a shot to help this team win the division.

Elmer's not ready yet, but he's getting closer and I like what I am seeing.

THE YANKEES & ASTROS SWAP NOBODIES!

The Yankees get better and better at frustrating fans and now players alike. Back in February, the Yankees designated Braden Shewmake for assignment to clear up a spot on the 40-man roster. But he sat in limbo waiting....and waiting until yesterday.

On Sunday, after waiting two and a half months, Shewmake was traded to the Houston Astros for pitcher Wilmy Sanchez. The shortstop that had no clear path to the majors and just sat around cleasring up a 40-man roster spot for all of last season is officially gone. This is what frustrates me about the Yankees. We had no where to put him, and he was not a clear upgrade over Anthony Volpe but let's just let him hold on to a valuable spot that anyone else could have and we could've used. That's the New York Yankee way.

And there was no reason to keep Shewmake as long as we did. He was bad at Scranton last season with a .244 BA and he was on pace for more of the same this spring. Even an extensive injury history in the infield would not have given him a golden opportunity at the big league level. We just like to hold onto scrubs.

The Astros, unfortunately need him. They have significant injuries they are dealing with and let Mauricio Dubon walk over the winter so now they are desperate and get the Yankees leftovers. Not that we are left with much better.....

So now we have Sanchez, the Astros leftovers. He's going to be the latest reclamation project for the Yankees. We all know how much Brian Cashman loves those. Now Matt Blake gets another pitcher he has to try and tune up. I will say if Blake can work his magic there COULD be an upside but it is a gamble. In 61 innings pitched last season he only gave up six home runs so it will be interesting to see if he can keep that success in New York. He also recorded 75 strikeouts so he has potential....but he does have some serious command issues holding him back but at 22 years old, he's still young enough to mold and get him ready for big league play.

Potential is always nice, but we are all tired of watching the Yankees go dumpster diving for projects. This strategy has blown up in our faces now with Camilo Doval and Jake Bird. Not to mention, there is still some trauma lingering from the failures of Clay Holmes, Mark Leiter Jr and Jonathan Loaisiga and honestly I could continue with this list but I am gonna save myself some PTSD....it's going to be a long season.

The Yankees and Astros swapped nobodies this weekend. As we sit and wait for the Yankees to make a deal for a difference maker, we all age a little more and grow more frustrated. These are not the moves of a contender, but a pretender.

The Yankees beat the Royals again. Put it in the ledger, take the win, move on—but let’s not pretend they just climbed Everest. It’s Kansas City. You’re supposed to win these games. And lately, the Yankees have been treating “supposed to” like an optional setting.

Remember how this season started? Red hot, everything clicking—then the usual unraveling act. Questionable bullpen moves, inconsistent pitching, and a general sense that the team is being steered by vibes instead of strategy. Now they might be stabilizing, let's see where this takes us.

But homer happy always seems to be the setting the Yankees fall back on. And they did what they always default to yesterday—hitting homers. Four of them. Boom, game tilted, stress reduced. And sure, that’s fun. Nobody’s booing a three-run shot. But it’s also the same glaring issue: this team treats run manufacturing like it’s some ancient, forbidden art. Move a runner? String together hits? Productive outs? Nah—just wait for someone to go yard. When it works, it looks dominant. When it doesn’t, it looks like a lineup stuck in buffering.

Will Warren deserves real credit, though—11 strikeouts and an outing that didn’t feel like a survival exercise. That alone is noteworthy given how many of their early games turned into coin flips. Fourteen of the first 20 decided by two runs or fewer tells you everything: this team doesn’t separate cleanly. So yeah, a five-run cushion and a cruise-control finish? That’s basically a luxury suite.

And then—inevitably—you get Aaron Boone at the podium, serving up his trademark blend of empty calories and verbal fog. After the game, he says: “A lot of good swings up and down the lineup, against a tough lefty."

"Put a good swing on it on a crazy night." Simpleton. Riveting stuff. Truly groundbreaking analysis. You’d get more insight from a fortune cookie.

That’s the issue. Boone talks like a motivational poster when the moment actually calls for awareness. This wasn’t some vague “trust the process” situation—this was real, tangible adjustment happening in real time, and he sounds like he’s narrating a rain delay.

Down to their last breath in the ninth, a routine pop-up turned into a three-man group project between Zach Neto and Oswald Peraza—and like most group projects, nobody took charge. The ball dropped, chaos followed, and suddenly the Yankees had life they absolutely did not earn. I sound like a hater, Michael Kay will say I'm a hater, and I'll call him a Yankee ass kisser. CLOWN BOONE'S MISMANAGEMENT OF BEN RICE MUST STOP!

"He is going to play against lefties." - Aaron Boone

This is the garbage I am tired of hearing from Aaron Boone. Ben Rice is the Yankees hottest hitter and he has been sitting on the bench. There are some things that you just cannot explain because they are so bleeping stupid. This is the world we have lived in for a long time and it makes no damn sense!

For the third time in the last five games, Rice has not been a starter. Baboonie insists there is a method to his madness HERE, but not putting your best hitter on the field is not a method, it is just stupid madness. No disrespect to Paul Goldschmidt he has proven himself against lefties in his career, but the Yankees said Rice would get more playing time against lefties this season, and so far that is not what we are seeing. Rice is red hot right now, and teams find a way to put their best bats in the lineup even if it means getting very creative.....all teams except the Yankees.

So one way to get creative would be for the Yankees to start Rice as a catcher, but the Yankees don't want to do that. The Yankees did not start Rice behind the plate during spring training, so he is not stretched out to catch a full game. The Yankees wouldn't be in this pickle right now if they just gave Rice this experience during spring. We would also have another way to replace Austin Wells and his pathetic .167 BA. The Yankees failed to prepare like a winning team....so this is what we get to endure.

Right now, Baboonie sees Rice as a valuable bat off of the bench in high leverage situations, and that's it. He's not just a valuable bat that would benefit from regular playing time and keeping a potent bat in the lineup is going to give the Yankees the best chance to win. It makes no sense that Baboonie values his bat for just one appearance, but not four times? If that is such a great idea, he should do the same thing for Aaron Judge. None of this makes any sense and it's all just bad analytics.

Ben Rice is an everyday player. Players naturally have highs and lows, but when you have guys riding a high point you HAVE to put them in the game. Baboonie is running the Yankees like it is a Little League team and that is honestly an insult to Little League teams everywhere because they probably do a better job.

This is the logic that has brought the Yankees no championships since 2009. Rice needs to be playing every day! Boone is the problem, and I am sick of it! He's too incompetent to run this team.

WHEN JAZZ'S BLUNDER ISN'T ENOUGH - BOONE MAKES IT WORSE!

What an embarrassing stretch for the Yankees. What an embarrassing series against the Rays. It was hard to stomach Jazz Chisholm's infield blunder on Saturday and then finish it off with a disastrous media appearance. Let's just make it even worse and get swept by the Rays after it's all said and done. New season, same antics.

We can also debate if Jazz understands basic baseball rules. It's back to baseball 101 for Jazz. Clearly he needs it and that frustrates the hell out of me! While talking through his strategy on the play with one out and the bases loaded in a tie game, he bobbled and cost himself a chance at a tag-and-throw double play. Afterwards, Chisholm talked with the media and questioned if he could have thrown to first and then tried to get the runner at second on a tag play for an inning-ending double play. As he was talking through it, he admitted "I don't know what the rule is" right in front of the media. Sitting at the locker next to him, Trent Grisham jumped in and told him that the runner would have scored from third before the tag at second base, the run would've scored and the game would've ended.

I guess I feel relieved that Jazz's instinct was to tag Yandy Diaz, who is a slow runner before throwing to Ben Rice at first but not knowing a basic rule really is a horrific look for both Jazz, Aaron Boone and the Yankees front office. To make matters worse, Baboonie defended Jazz yesterday morning and said that Jazz DOES know the rules....even though Jazz himself said he didn't. Talk about a public relations nightmare!

"We'll talk through it," Boone said HERE before the series finale at Tropicana Field. "He's not confused on it. I think that's kind of the default answer when he's got reporters in front of him. Look, it turns out to be a tough play. Watching it back, there might have been a chance to where if he gets it cleanly, he gets the tag off, it's hard to know how exactly Yandy Diaz reacts in that moment running from first to second. Once it chops like that, you know it's going to be a tough one to turn the normal 4-6-3." When Baboonie was asked by the media if Jazz really didn't know the rule he replied "I think he knows the rule." Then he added more fuel to the fire by adding "I think part of it comes to answering those things in a better way."

That should be true for both the player and his clown of a manager. Baboonie couldn't be any further from the truth on this one and he stupidly puts himself in a spot that gives us all more ammunition to prove why he is becoming an even bigger idiot (I wasn't sure that was possible, but he just did it!)

At the end of the day, Jazz was very candid and said he did not understand the rule. He said it on camera! There's no walking that back! However, in true Baboonie clown fashion he tries to cover up for Jazz and his bad blunder and admission of his total lack of baseball intelligence. WHY?! Don't tell the media "I think he knows the rule" after he just said he did not and then throw back with the idea of answering those things in a better way. That goes for you too, dumbass!

Seriously, let Jazz talk his way out of that and then have a meeting with him and give him some tough love! That's what needed to happen but we all know it didn't. Jazz made some big mistakes, but Baboonie made some bad manager decisions also. They are both clowns.

I'm just amazed that Jazz, who thinks he is worth $35 million a year in a new contract doesn't understand baseball 101 that is taught in little league! The Yankees better save their money for players that understand the game. While they are at it they should cut the brainless manager too!

Because here’s the truth nobody wanted to say out loud except us here at Bleeding Yankee Blue: the moment Aaron Boone has to actually manage—not just smile and nod while things are going well—the whole thing starts to wobble. April 10: Randal Grichuk gets the nod against a righty while Trent Grisham, a lefty, collects dust on the bench. Four pitches later—strikeout. Predictable doesn’t even begin to cover it.

And then today—back to McMahon again. Against a pitcher who eats hitters like him alive. Meanwhile, Goldschmidt watches. Again.

These aren’t tough managerial calls. That’s the scary part. These are the easy ones. The obvious ones. And Boone still manages to get them wrong. 2024 World Series Game 1—Boone trots out Nestor Cortes, fresh off an injury and over a month without pitching, to face the top of the Dodgers lineup. Predictably, it blows up immediately.

2025 Wild Card Game—he pulls Max Fried after 6.1 shutout innings on just 102 pitches. The bullpen comes in, gives up a backbreaking homer, and the game flips. Season altered because of one unnecessary decision.

And yet, here we are. Same mistakes. Same patterns. Same excuses. Same stupid manager. Fans chanting “Fire Boone” aren’t overreacting—we’re exhausted. This isn’t impatience. It’s recognition.

Brian Cashman keeps building flawed rosters, Aaron Boone keeps mismanaging the pieces he does have, and Hal Steinbrenner keeps watching it all unfold like it’s acceptable.

It’s not.

This franchise used to demand excellence. Now it tolerates mediocrity dressed up as “process.”

Yeah, Austin Wells went yard, but let’s not throw a parade for a solo shot that barely moved the needle. The real backbone of this game was Caballero, who decided to ignore his .116 average like it was a bad Yelp review. Down late, he came through with three RBIs, including that clutch double down the left field line after a circus sequence that started with a high chopper turning into chaos. Friday night’s 5–3 loss to the Rays wasn’t just another notch in a three-game skid—it was another reminder that the biggest problem in the Bronx isn’t always on the field.

Yes, Luis Gil had a rocky debut. Fine. That happens. But the defining moments of this game didn’t come from the mound—they came from the dugout, where Aaron Boone continues to manage like he’s guessing on a multiple-choice test and proudly circling “C” every time.

This is becoming a pattern, not a fluke.

April 8: a .077-hitting Ryan McMahon keeps getting chances like he’s on a lifetime achievement tour. Boone’s justification was dumb. He actually said McMahon “had been on base four times in the previous three games.” That’s the bar now? Four times in three games? For a hitter batting .077?

And then Friday—somehow worse.

Not “figuring it out.” Elite. And lately, Bednar hasn’t been different. A velocity drop, he’s been alittle shaky.

Meanwhile, Weaver is the exact opposite kind of weapon. He doesn’t need perfection to be useful. He gives you options—and options win games over 162.

Weaver can give you two or three clean innings when your starter flames out early. He can patch together an emergency start without the entire bullpen catching fire behind him. He can stabilize extra innings, bridge the middle frames, or come in with traffic on the bases and actually put out the fire instead of pouring gasoline on it. Even when he’s not dominant, he’s contributing. That’s the key difference—his floor still helps you win.

And that’s where this becomes almost insulting from a roster-building standpoint.

Weaver fits the modern game perfectly. He’s the guy you deploy in the 5th, 6th, or 7th when the game is actually on the line—not just when the scoreboard tells you it’s time for a save opportunity. He stops rallies before they become losses. He keeps games from spiraling. He protects the rest of your staff by eating innings and preventing overuse. Bednar? He’s locked into the 9th inning like it’s written in stone. No flexibility. No creativity. And if there’s no save situation, he’s basically a very expensive spectator. The New York Yankees front office has developed a bad habit: take a struggling player, slap a “he’ll figure it out” label on him, and shove him into the lineup like fans won’t notice. It’s not optimism—it’s denial dressed up as strategy. We are no longer a competitive, or a serious franchise.

And right on cue, Aaron Boone is the one delivering the sales pitch.

We’ve seen this movie before. Austin Wells and Ryan McMahon are just the latest examples of players being force-fed to the fanbase while producing absolutely nothing. Bleeding Yankee Blue has been waving the warning flag for months, but instead of adjustments, we get stubbornness and spin.

Let’s start with Wells. He came up with the promise of a bat-first catcher who needed polish behind the plate. What’s he become? A below-average defender… with a disappearing bat. That’s not a project—that’s a problem. When your back up catcher in Ben Rice is better than your actual catcher, we have a problem. Austin's plate discipline is eroding, the contact is weak, and the results are brutal. A World Baseball Classic homer for the Dominican Republic is not a résumé builder—it’s a footnote. Meanwhile, guys like Ben Rice are sitting there actually earning opportunities. Thank God his bats in the lineup. At some point, performance has to matter more than reputation. The mechanics are a mess: all arms, no lower half, no balance, no confidence. He doesn’t look close. He looks lost. Yet Boone stands there and tells everyone, “He’ll get it rolling.”

Based on what? Vibes?

Because right now, the bottom of this lineup isn’t just struggling—it’s automatic outs. And continuing to run these guys out there while better options sit (not many mind you) is not loyalty, it’s negligence. It’s a refusal to adjust. It’s managing scared.

If Boone really is the one writing out the lineup card every night, then Brian Cashman needs to pick up the phone and remind him what the fucking job is: win games. Not protect feelings. Not hand out extended tryouts in April like it’s spring training.

Yankees fans don’t want charity cases. They don’t care about clubhouse friendships or who “deserves” more time. They want accountability. They want results.

And right now? Wells and McMahon aren’t just underperforming—they’re actively hurting this team.

AMED ROSARIO IS A GAME HERO & RYAN MCMAHON IS A ZERO!

It's early, so I'm not going to jump to conclusions yet but, THE CASE OF MCMAHON'S MISSING LOWER HALF is really concerning. It's enough that even clown Aaron Boone knew he had to make a change. Let's hope he continues to think smart and use a baseball brain.

Everything is off with Ryan McMahon right now so I am glad Baboonie used his brain for once and used Amed Rosario Tuesday against the A's. Rosario's role was planned as the bench infielder that would play more against left-handed pitching but when you aren't getting the job done like McMahon right now who is in a 2-for-23 slump, sometimes you gotta take a leap of faith.

And it paid off. It's hard for me to watch the Yankees struggle against teams like the A's but it happens. Sometimes your regulars just don't get the job done but one person can be the sparkplug that changes everything. That's exactly what Rosario was with his two homeruns. He could make it very easy for Baboonie to give Rosario more playing time against right handed pitchers if McMahon can't remember how to hit a ball again.

If McMahon was in the lineup Tuesday, we wouldn't have been able to watch that beautiful home run against Mark Leiter Jr. and bring that energy to the rest of his teammates. I can appreciate McMahon's glove, on paper it is "better" than Rosario's but it's not a detriment to this team to play Rosario instead. This isn't a Anthony Volpe concern who can't hit worth a lick and is a defensive liability.

I think Baboonie needs to look a little harder for more opportunities to play Rosario. It's obvious McMahon needs a cleansing of sorts to get his mojo back offensively. I don't care about righty-lefty scenarios right now. McMahon would struggle to hit an oversized beach ball at the plate and until he gets his shit together Baboonie needs to be willing to play Rosario against righties and look at matchups that may be good to get his bat into. All guys have those pitchers that they just see well.

Right now it's not good to be a Ryan on this team. McMahon isn't getting the job done and let's face it Ryan Weathers also stinks to high heaven. Someone call Baboonie and tell him the Ryan's aren't getting the job done and to continue to make adjustments.
