Lent is one of the grand celebration of the Roman Catholic Church where all believers commemorates the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. A time of fasting, sacrifices and prayer. This is a five-day observance that starts on Holy Thursday. On this day, Visita Iglesia

is made by the faithful.This practice was introduced by the Spanish colonizers which goes back to the time of the early church where Christians would visit seven great basilicas in Rome for the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament during Maundy Thursday.

For us, Filipinos, this is also a time for friends and family bonding. We all look forward to go for a trip together to visit different churches no matter how far it could be and adore God in the Blessed Sacrament.

This year, these are the seven churches we visited.

             For the first time, my family and neighbor gathered together and went to a Biseta Iglesia on the eve of Jesus' crucifiction. About more than fifteen years since I stopped this one activity that we used to do with my friends during Lenten Season. This time kids were the majority of our company. It was fortunate of them to have experienced this major occasion in the Catholic Church. I didn't have this when I was their age.

Last year, several Mission Stations were built in the city. Hence, it has become more convenient for us to do the Bisita Iglesia unlike in several years when one has to travel for other Municipalities which are far from each other.

Finally! I found a home for my fruit trees seedlings.

I have grown fruit trees seedlings without knowing where to plant it. I just love doing it.

Every time I ate fruits, I keep the seed and make it grow. It became so many and our little space in the province became full of it. Thanks to my friend. We share the same advocacy. That is,

Fill the land with fruit trees.

And so, my almost a hundred fruit trees seedling will grow in this land.

A Trip to a Galley

     No, I didn't go for a ride in a ship. I just went on the shore and found a galley. Not really, but it's a restaurant!

No, a galley doesn't look like this, this is the entrance. Nice balloon pillars. Thanks to Sixth Avenue Balloons.

Oh! and the food....hmmm... tastes superb! Sadly I have to watch out for fats, cholesterol and etc. Anything that is so much is too much for the body. Yeah, unhealthy. But it was only for this night. Didn't really help it. Just look at the food! It tastes as great as it looks, or even better. So irresistible and tempting.

Good Friday Tableaux Procession

Good Friday procession is one of the most important Holy Week traditions of the Catholic Church in the Philippines. It is a solemn procession of tableaux depicting episodes from the Way of the Cross and statues of Dolorosa -- Most Sorrowful Mother - and other significant female characters in the bible that were present during the passion of Jesus.

Holy Week or Easter Week is the most important date in the Christian Calendar. It commemorates the life of Jesus -- His passion and resurrection.

These are the tableaux procession in Kalibo on Good Friday. Here, every float are lavishly decorated with expensive flowers. After the procession, the floats are blessed by the priest. Unlike in other towns, parishioners have no habit of picking flowers from the tableaux after the procession, only in the Sto. Intiero or the dead body of Christ.

This Cathedral is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary as Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. Many churches like this is found all over the country. This one is found in Roxas City, Capiz, Philippines.

December 8 is the feast day of Our Lady's immaculate conception and so is the city's religious fiesta.

A renovation has been started on this church a few years ago, and at last, it is almost finished. I can't help being proud just by looking at it. It really is so much better now. But it looks like as if it is a hundred percent finished. These photos were taken on Christmas Day 2011.

They call this place a Christmas village because of the cute little lighted houses that makes you a giant when inside the village.

Sta. Monica Church

A church found in the municipality of Panay, Capiz, Philippines.

This church is home for the famous bell in Asia. One of the tourist destination in Roxas City, the church is just 25 minutes away.

This centuries old church is the town's historic landmark and foremost tourist attraction.

It was constructed in 1571 and complete in 1771. The grand structure is 70 meters long, 25 meters wide, 18 meters hide and shape in the form of a Latin cross.

The 3 meter thick wall is made of coral blocks and the flooring of black Spanish marble, red tiles and ceramic. It has three (3) towering altars made of hardwood decorated with ornamental Bas-relief and antique statues, a delicate expression of old Spanish baroque.

Atop the church belfry, hangs the biggest bell in Asia. Its booming sound could be heard 8 kilometers away. It is about 7 feet tall, a base diameter of 5 feet and weighs 10.4 tons. Seventy sacks of coins were used to cast the giant bell in 1878.

I was in this place a few month ago and took this photos as remembrance.

I've been here many times and every time, I can't help feeling nostalgic. I would imagine how people before would come and go from this place. I feel blessed to be in this historical place.

Panay Bell - Replica

This is a replica of the famous Panay Bell.

Housed at the Sta. Monica Parish church in the Municipality of Panay, Capiz, Philippines.

It is the biggest bell in Asia and the third largest bell in the world.

The bell is known to have been made out of 70 sacks of gold coins.

Weighs 10.4 tons, its echoing sound can be heard 8 kilometers away.

This replica is located beside the convent. There is another replica found at the tower of the church which is as big as the original bell.

Folks says the real bell was stolen and dropped into the sea.

I never tried taking pictures in front of the glaring sun. It's hurting to the eyes.

As a child, I also thought that the camera might break. But one early morning, I closed my eyes and blindly took this shot. Gee..! I was wrong.

A rainbow is an optical and meteorological phenomenon that causes a spectrum of light to appear in the sky when the sun shines on to droplets of moisture in the earth's atmosphere. It takes the form of a multicoloured arc.

Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of the sky directly opposite the sun.

When I see a rainbow, what comes to my mind is what I heard in my childhood that when you point your finger on it, your finger will be cut.

As I child I really believed it and so I never pointed a finger on rainbows.

I just looked and admired it.

When I saw this one today, I didn't point my finger, but my cellphone.

Another thought that comes to my mind when I see a rainbow is God's promise to Abraham that He won't bring flood on earth again.

I was walking home one morning.

The weather was really great and this part of the Roxas City Plaza looked so great as this.

This is our favorite rendezvous. This man, we call our Lolo, is President Manuel Roxas. When we have somewhere to go, we meet at Lolo's, when we have something to celebrate, we meet at Lolo's, when we are sad, we meet at Lolo's.

We all have changed. But not Lolo. Still standing straight. Speak and span.

How To Make Malunggay Capsule

There are a lot of ways on how to make Malunggay capsule. It is so easy and anyone can make it at home.

This was how I made my own capsule.

After cleaning the leaves with water, I air dried it this way for two to three days. Before hanging the leaves, I scrutinized each leaves for any remaining sticky dirt or cobwebs. I also removed the yellow leaves. As days go by, dried leaves curls and some fell from the stems. I carefully separated the leaves and the stems.

I roasted the leaves in a big pan for about 4-5 minutes for sanitation purposes.

Roasted leaves becomes crispy that makes it great to be powdered.

Not all leaves can be powdered with a blender. The remaining I placed inside an ice wrapper and powdered it using a mortar and a pestle.

Powdered Malunggay ready for packing.

Empty gelatin capsules are available in leading drugstores. Malunggay capsules are normally packed in #0 capsule. I purposely packed it in #1 which is smaller so that small kids can easily swallow it.

In capsuling, proper hygiene must be observed. It is recommended to sanitize hands with alcohol, making sure under nails are clean and wear mask while packing. You can wear a hair net if you can.

I was in front of the house of my cousin and took this picture. But this is not my cousin's rice field.
I remember when I was small, I was so eager to plant and clean the rice field like my aunts and uncles were doing. But when I got the chance, I realized I can't do it yet. I was still small for the job.
Even today, I would think it is easy to hold the rope and guide the carabao in tilling the land, but it was so difficult. I just can't do it.
