Sooo...I guess you can tell that I didn't get an outfit photo in yesterday. I'm still working on getting motivated about my blog. But I'm hoping a little site update will get me excited again. I'm making the switch to wordpress.org (yikes!). I just decided that after a couple years of blogging I need to finally own my content. So I'm hoping the transition is smooth!

Now onto Flashback Fashion Fridays! This is probably the only co-ord set that I own. I love that the top and skirt are different but still similar enough to wear together. A lot of times I wear them separately though. See more of this look here!

Ruffle Tank + Denim

Well, the weather is hitting almost 90 degrees here in LA and while I appreciate warmer weather this just seem a little too warm for February. In my head I'm thinking about layers, boots and sweaters but then I walk outside and it feels like summer. It makes it really hard to put together a summer outfit when I'm still in the winter mood.

So I decided to take one of my winter outfits and make it warm weather appropriate. All I did was take off the sweater and switch out my tote bag for a clutch (and add a denim jacket for air conditioned rooms). It's amazing how switching out one or two items in an outfit can make it look a lot different.

I'm not a big fan of Valentine's Day. Bright red and pink decorations, heart shapes everywhere - it's just not my thing. I'm also not a huge fan of sweets (gasp!) so all of the chocolates and sugar just don't do it for me. But one thing I can get behind is flowers and Valentine's Day reminds me of one of my favorite beauty scents - ROSES!

I feel like it all started with this Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel toner. It's one of my favorite beauty products and I use it everyday after washing my face because it gets rid of excess dirt and makeup. I love the light scent and it's very hydrating. Sometimes I don't even need to apply moisturizer afterwards.

My other favorites include the Rosebud Salve - you can use it on hands, lips and nails! - And this Crabtree & Evelyn hand lotion.

I'm a big fan of L'Occitane lotions and scents so I'd love to try the roll-on rose fragrance. Diptyque candles always smell amazing so I'd love to add this one to my collection.

And an interesting product I found out about this year is the H2rOse Beverage. Rose water is great for the skin but it also has benefits for the body as well. It helps purify the body and contains essential vitamins. I got a bottle at a Simply Stylist event and I was super intrigued! It comes in 4 different flavors too!

I don't know if you guys know this about me but I'm a huge fan of Everlane. I pretty much want everything on their site! My latest addition are these black and white modern point loafers. They sold out really fast but I put myself on the waitlist and around Christmas time they came back in stock in my size! Score! I also love the modern loafers and I think my next purchase will be these in black patent leather. I talked about closet staples and quality over quantity in my last post and I feel like these loafers fit in that category.

I think this might be my last "cold weather" outfit for awhile. The weather here in SoCal is going back into the 80's the next week or two. I can't say I'm happy about that. I really love fall/winter layers and I'm not ready to say goodbye to them yet!

I really liked the look of this ruffle sweater so I decided to create my own version. This sweater has a side slit and high/low hemline so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to add a ruffle tank for some added interest. And the great thing is this tank looks super cute on it's own so I'll be able to wear it during the summer! I love when I can wear pieces all year round!

Bold Statements

Most of the time I try to pick out items out that flatter my figure. But sometimes I'm attracted to a piece of clothing that has great shape, movement or color - even if it makes me look a little bigger than I actually am. This happens to be one of those tops. My mom would probably tell me that this top makes me look pregnant but I love the way the pleats hang off my body. I also love the bold color. And hey - it will probably still fit me when I'm pregnant so that's one less maternity top I'll have to buy!

This is the second item I've purchased from COS. They have a ton of neutral/minimalist pieces but they also have lots of great color options, which I love. This store is perfect for people like me who can't decide what they'd like their style to be - classic/minimalist or bold/colorful. I'm definitely on the bold/colorful side today with this statement necklace from History + Industry. I love finding one-of-a-kind jewelry there when they go on sale!

Cashmere Sweater

A cashmere sweater seems like the ultimate luxury item so when I saw that H&M was having a sale on their cashmere sweaters I bought two! Can you believe I picked this one up for $30?! I feel like I need to only buy cashmere sweaters from now on. They are just so soft! I would rather buy a few expensive sweaters that last than have to replace my cheap ones every season.

This H&M sweater was just such an amazing price that I didn't really care if the cashmere wasn't the best quality. But in the future I'm going to buy my cashmere from Everlane. I feel like they have a good balance between quality and cost. I also just love this company so whenever I get a chance to support them I do. (P.S. you should follow them on snapchat!). Sadly, my H&M sweater is sold out but I've linked the different styles of cashmere sweaters that Everlane offers in the widget below.

I picked up this off the shoulder top in the summer but that doesn't mean I can't wear it in colder weather. Just add a jacket and a silk scarf and you are totally cold weather ready! I love being able to mix my summer and winter wardrobes.

I also recently picked up these ankle skinny jeans from Banana Republic. It's funny - I used to have the hardest time finding jeans that were long enough for me. Now, cropped and ankle lengths are in so I don't have to worry about it anymore! If you are afraid that you'll look like you're ready for a flood in cropped or ankle length jeans just add lace up shoes or mid calf boots to take up the extra space.

So this week was still a little rough with trying to get outfit photos in. I'm still feeling kind of frustrated but I think it's slowly going away.

First of all, thanks for all the encouragement on Friday. I really appreciate all of your comments! It's nice to know that I'm not alone in all of this. Second of all, I totally was going to have a post up earlier today but came down with a cold on Sunday so I've been really slow getting things together. But better late than never, right!

So here's the outfit I wore this Saturday to the Simply Stylist blogging workshop at The Grove. I had the chance to hear Brittany from Thrifts and Threads talk about the business of blogging. Most of the info I already knew but it was a nice motivator to get back into the blogging game. If you live in LA makes sure to check out the other blogging workshops they have coming up. I think the next one has to do with social media.

In my opinion, black and white is always chic so I decided to wear this white top and mules with my black skinny jeans. I found this modern, structured top at a store called COS. I'd never heard of COS before until a friend told me about it, so I can't take credit for the find. If you haven't heard of COS before, it's an offshoot of the H&M brand. They offer modern, minimalistic pieces at a slightly higher price point than H&M. I fell in love with the colors and shapes of their pieces. Unfortunately, most items are at least $100. But right now they are having an end of season sale and most items are 50% off so I took the opportunity to pick up a few things. This white top is a bit oversized but I love the shape of the sleeves. I also picked up this front pleated turquoise top. I just feel like the styles are really interesting and unique so I don't mind spending a little more for them.

Soo...you might have noticed that I haven't really posted all week. I also haven't posted much on my social media accounts either. I wish I had a good reason why I've been MIA but I don't. I had every intention of starting the new year out with being super organized and inspired to create new content for the blog...but it just didn't happen.

To tell you the truth I'm feeling sad and frustrated. I sad that I'm not happy with where my career is going. I'm frustrated that I can't turn my passion (this blog) into a real job. I recently got mentioned on another bloggers site and that day I got more pageviews than I usually do in an entire month. I'm super grateful for the shoutout but at the same time it made me kind of sad. I feel like I've been working at this thing for awhile and I'm still so far behind the norm. I know every blogger goes through periods of self doubt where they wonder if anyone really cares if they keep posting or not so this is really nothing new.

So what have I been doing since I haven't been a very good blogger? Shopping of course! Nothing makes you feel better like some retail therapy (until you have to pay the bills).

- My cold weather wardrobe is not very good so I've been trying to stock up on some neutral sweaters (in cream and grey).

- I made an investment in a knit turtleneck sweater from Everlane.

- I picked up this drop waist ruffle tank to layer under my sweaters.

- I was able to score some cashmere sweaters from H&M for under $30!

- This fringe cardigan is also on major sale (60% off!) and will keep me nice and cozy.

- I also picked up some sweet sunnies and a silk neck scarf.

Now onto Flashback Fashion Fridays! I wasn't able to motivate myself to get new outfit photos. But here's a flashback to last January! I actually forgot about these pants! I need to go hunt for them in my closet again.

Leather Tote Bag

I'd like to be able to say that I'm totally ready for 2016 and have everything organized and ready to go - but I don't. I actually hate the start of a new year. After coming off of the holiday season I feel lazy, unorganized and kind of unmotivated. I feel like I need a vacation to recover from my vacation. I'm also feeling uninspired with my wardrobe. I'm having trouble coming up with outfit ideas and don't feel like getting dressed.

But if anything can give me some inspiration it's this tote from Minnie + George. I first discovered Minnie + George last summer at the Unique LA market. I fell in love with the bags and clutches and put pretty much everything on my wishlist. I was finally able to order this leather tote bag as a Christmas gift. I love the natural leather color and the tassel details. Sadly, Minnie + George is taking a break right now to re-do their website and prep new designs. But keep up with them on Instagram to stay in the loop about their relaunch!

Navy Layers

For this two week trip home for the holidays I tried to pack light. It's really hard for me to only pack a few items because I get dressed based on my mood. And who knows what mood I'm going to be in when I'm home! But I really tried to pack light this time which is why you haven't seen many outfit photos recently. I brought a lot of basic items that could be mixed and matched and just didn't feel like they were blog worthy. But here is an example of an outfit I wore while I was home.

This striped button down shirt can easily be worn on its own or layered under a sweater or puffy vest. Dark jeans can be dressed up or down so it's perfect for casual days or a date night. This navy puffer vest is a great layering piece to add some extra warmth. It's light enough to wear under a coat but also looks great over a button down shirt. I love it so much I bought another one in hunter green! My red fair isle socks were a Christmas gift and also ties into the red dots in my silk scarf.

So there you have it - three basic pieces that can be mixed and matched to create other outfits!

All neutrals, all the time - I think that's what I'm going to wear from now on. It's just so easy to put together an outfit when you have a closet full of neutrals. I originally bought this suede skirt in the summer but it easily transitions into fall/winter outfits by adding an oversized sweater and OTK boots.

My Christmas Gifts Roundup

Today I'm sharing with you what I got for Christmas!

1. Miles Davis Kind of Blue LP - I don't listen to a lot of music anymore (which is weird since I majored in music in college and grad school) but when I do I prefer to listen to jazz. This is one of my favorite records!

2. Audio Technica Turntable - I'm not really a fan of digital movies, music or books. I prefer to have the physical item in my hands. That means I still buy dvd's, cd's and books! So I figured the next step would be to try LP's. I worked in a music library in college and there was a huge collection of records so it kind of brings me back!

3. Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens - This was a total surprise from my hubby! I currently work with a Canon zoom lens which is really cumbersome. This is a lot shorter and more portable but will achieve the same effect. I can't wait to try it out!

4. Steve Madden Rozamare Booties - I don't have a pair of short, tan booties in my closet so these are perfect!

5. Banana Republic Boot Socks (and here) - I always love to stock up on fun socks during the holidays.

6. Minnie + George Tote Bag (in Vegetable Tan) - I've had this bag on my wishlist since the summer when I saw them at the Unique La market in LA. These bags are hand stitched and come in a variety of colors. I got mine in a light tan color - it will go with anything!

7. P.F. Candle Co. Lavender Candle - This is my FAVORITE scent EVER! Love this company too.

8. Harrisville Lap Loom (not pictured) - I'm getting into weaving so I figured I needed a legit loom! I'm excited to make some wall hangings!

Faux Fur Topper

Happy Monday! Did everyone survive Christmas?! Can't wait to show off some of the fun stuff I got. But first - here's a coat I picked up weeks ago but never got a chance to shoot. I can't take credit for finding this coat though. A month ago I attended a wine tasting/illustration event with Maison Jules and two people at the event were wearing it! I thought it was stunning when I first saw it and thought it came from an expensive boutique so I was happy to find out it was part of the Maison Jules collection at Macy's!

Sadly, this coat is almost sold out. That's totally my fault - I waited to long to post! But I picked out some other faux fur toppers below that would be good options. This coat is definitely a statement piece. I guess it's considered a deer or "bambi" print which is something I haven't seen a lot of. But I think it's fun to have something a little different in your closet.

P.S. For those of you who are doing some after Christmas shopping - my favorite online store Everlane is having a Choose Your Price Sale on select items! That's right - you get to choose what you want to pay! Everlane NEVER has sales so this is the time to get something at an extremely discounted price. Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! I've been on an unintentional break from blogging this week. I totally had some outfit posts ready to go but just got caught up in traveling, getting ready for Christmas, and spending time with family. Since both my husband and I grew up in the same area we split time between his side and my side so there is always a lot going on!

I just wanted to thank all of you for stopping by every week. This blog means a lot to me and you guys are the reason I keep going! I hope that you get a nice break from work and are enjoying the holidays too.

Sorry for the late post - my husband and I spent the weekend packing and traveling. Now I'm back in Pennsylvania for the holidays! I'm really thankful that I get all this time off. I'll be honest - that's pretty much the only really why I wanted to get a job in education. After school I couldn't imagine giving up my summers and holidays to work...haha.

Here's an outfit that I think I'm going to wear on Christmas Day! I just love plaid during the holidays. Since it's definitely a lot colder here in PA I'm going to need to layer with my puffy vest, scarf and hat.

Friday! More like Fri-YAY! I'm really excited about this Friday because it means that I'm done work until after New Years! WooHoo! #perksofbeingateacher I feel like I haven't really started to enjoy the holiday season yet. November and December haven't been the best. For one thing, I've been sick three times in less than two months. I blame the snot nosed preschoolers that I teach. #perksofbeingateacher.

Anyway, now that I'm done I'm going to focus of baking cookies, wrapping presents and watching Christmas movies. Oh - and wearing all my festive holiday outfits. Like this feathery fringe skirt! I picked up a white fringe skirt a couple of years ago but I had trouble finding one in black. They can end up being pretty expensive! So I was super excited to find this one at Banana Republic for 40% off!

I styled it with a cream cable knit sweater and fun sparkly tweed jacket. But it would also look very festive with a plaid shirt and chunky pearl necklace. And the awesome news is if you order by the 21st you can still get this skirt in time for the holidays!

Cowhide Clutch

I love discovering new small businesses and the perfect place to do that is at the Unique markets that pop in major cities like LA, New York and San Francisco. Two weekends ago I stopped by the market and got a chance to browse the amazing cowhide clutches and bags from Jackson and Hyde. I also got a chance to meet and talk to Ryan - one half of Jackson and Hyde. Him and his wife decided to start this company after discovering these clutches in a market in Nicaragua on their honeymoon! Since then they've partnered with Nicaraguan manufacturers to bring these gorgeous handmade clutches to the US. You can read more about their story here.

I had just discovered them on Instagram a couple days before the market so I was really excited to see their products in person. I walked away with this tan speckled clutch and a mini card holder. I love the texture that this clutch brings to any outfit. I decided to mix it with dark grey/black so that it would really stand out.

What I love about the Jackson and Hyde collections is the variety of cowhide patterns that they have. And each pattern will be slightly different which means you get a one of a kind piece. I'm hoping to add one of their amazing tote bags to my collection soon!

Over the Knee Boots

I finally found them! A pair of over the knee boots that actually fit! Hallelujah! It's taken me YEARS to find a pair that fit my skinny calves/legs. I never understood what the problem was until I realized that my feet are not proportional to the size of my legs. Apparently, if you wear a size 9 shoe your calf circumference should be 15-16 inches. Mine are around 13 inches which is why ALL the knee high boots I tried on ended up being too wide. I even tried this Choies pair which looked like a dupe for the Stuart Weitzman boots but they were too big too.

I'd almost given up when I wandered into a Zara and happened to find this pair. I gave them a shot and I couldn't believe when they actually stayed up and didn't look too big! I think the zipper on the ankle makes them easy to get on and off and keeps the shape of the boot slim. The price is pretty reasonable too at under $90. Win-Win!

I also have to mention this gorgeous bracelet from Roxanne Bergez. I love the texture the lizard leather brings to the outfit. Roxanne has an amazing collection of leather bracelets in a variety of skins and styles. I really love the style of the "Loire" bracelet series and that they come in sizes xs-large which means they will fit any size wrist!

I'm excited to share two party looks with you today! This holiday season Bar III can take you from girly to glam with their cute dresses which you can find at Macy's.

For my "girly" party look I went with this hunter green fit and flare dress and added a fur collar and polka dot tights for a cute, festive look. I'm in love with this dress! It fits like a glove and is such an amazing silhouette. You won't be able to stop yourself from twirling around! And the amazing thing is this dress comes in 10 colors! I love this dark green color for a more subdued holiday look.

For my "glam" look I went with a pleated gold shift dress. I added some edge with the textured moto jacket and booties and finished off the look with lots of gold jewelry. This dress is definitely a show stopper and would be perfect for New Year's Eve.

I found all of these Bar III items in store at my local Macy's. They do run a bit small so I would suggest sizing up. I usually wear an xs but I'm wearing a small in all of the Bar III items.

Christmas Sweaters

Today my friend Erica is joining me for outfit photos to show off these fun Christmas sweaters from Boohoo! I've always wanted a cute Christmas-y sweater and luckily Boohoo has a whole selection of fun and quirky sweaters. They even have a Harry Potter Christmas sweater and a Christmas sweater for your dog!

We took these photos after our book club meeting. Only one person ended up reading the book (oops!) so Erica had the awesome idea to make Christmas floral crowns - which you can see in the second photo.

These sweaters would be perfect for Christmas day or even a Christmas photo shoot. Just layer them over your favorite plaid shirt, grab a pair of antler headbands and you're good to go!
