If you have good credit status, you can get approved easily and get the money that you need after processing the requirements. It is more suited when you need a larger amount of funds, say, for buying a house or car, or for starting a business.

Since the company declared its global Ambition 2030 and Net Zero 2040 commitments, P&G Philippines has strengthened its sustainability efforts across its business operations to minimize their greenhouse gas emissions and waste footprint, create products that make responsible consumption irresistible for people everywhere, and innovate with the best and safest ingredients from both science and nature.

P&G Philippines President and General Manager, Raffy Fajardo, highlighted their constant integration of sustainability practices into brand innovations, supply chain operations, and employee engagement. My Experience Making a "Queen Mother Ube Cake" at IDIM DIY Bakery!

I finally tried IDIM (I Did It Myself) DIY Bakery!

Baking is not new to me. I am one of those who found love in cooking and baking during the lockdown period. It was also when I bought my oven and other baking tools. But I must admit that most of the time, I just use fool-proof cake mixes for my cakes, cupcakes, brownies, and other pastries. Also, most of my knowledge came from Youtube videos and recipes online.

I've been hearing about existing DIY bakeries but never really thought the need for it. I mean, if you can bake at home, what difference would it make spending some bucks doing it outside?

Well I guess I would never know until I try it, right? Good thing Mommy Bloggers Philippines held a Mom's Day Out at IDIM (I Did It Myself) DIY Bakery as a Pre-Mother's Day Celebration!

IDIM DIY Bakery originated from Taiwan and is the first Do-It-Yourself bakery in Asia. In the Philippines, they already have two branches: [1] 4F Mega Atrium, SM Megamall -- which I visited; and [2] 4th Floor, Building A, Ayala Malls Manila Bay.

6-inch (diameter) Decorative Cakes range from Php1,199 to Php1,499 in price. But there are other cake types as low as Php799. Doughnuts and other pastries are also available at a cheaper price
The price already covers the fee for the baking session, the ingredients needed for creating the desired cake/pastry, and the usage of equipment

The Experience

First thing to do is to choose a cake or pastry to make. There are various cake flavors and types -- decorative cake, chocolate cake, cheesecake, pie, cookie, doughnut, macaron, and more. You can also make your own milk tea. Fun! Since Mother's Day is coming, I chose one of their seasonal cakes -- the Queen Mother Ube Cake!

Some of the desserts to choose from

I was given a wristband which identifies if I'm a solo baker, working in pair, or a returnee. Maximum of 2 persons can work on a dessert. Children at least 6 years of age are allowed to bake as long as accompanied by an adult.

I was then handed a tablet which contains the cake of my choice. This became my bestfriend all through out the baking session as it contains the terms and conditions, list of tools & ingredients, and videos with step-by-step procedure. I was literally carrying it wherever I go!

One important thing to remember is to never take a photo, video, or in any way copy the recipe provided in the tablet. This is copyright protected by IDIM DIY Bakery.

Queen Mother Ube Cake

For this Queen Mother Ube Cake, I had to work first on the batter, the meringue, mixing them together and baking them to form the base cake. While the cakes were baking, I had to work on both the filling and the frosting. And when all were done, final part is to assemble, frost, and decorate. The staff would then put it in a beautiful see-through box. Seems easy in theory but since I'm not a pro baker and a little bit on the OC side, several times I had to recheck the measurements and instructions which caused me some time.

In summary, these are the things that I like about my IDIM DIY Bakery experience:

The instructions and the sequence provided in the tablet are clear and easy to follow. It allows you to focus on what to do first so you don't get overwhelmed. If the first part is making the batter, then all the materials needed, the exact measurements of ingredients plus where to find them are specified properly
There are video instructions along with step-by-step procedure. How to use the stand mixer? How do I know if my meringue, batter, or frosting is at the right consistency? They're all shown in the video on your tablet
The ingredients are readily available -- all you have to do is measure. Need egg white or egg yolk? No need to crack an egg and separate them. Just get from the ref and measure what you need
Complete and high quality tools and equipment. I get to appreciate baking more because the process became much efficient with the right tools. It was my first time using a stand mixer and I want one in my kitchen now! And I don't know what it is with their oven but my cake was baked perfectly!
There are well-trained staff to help you. Although the aim is to do things on your own, there can be some situations when a little help from the staff is needed. For my case, it was when I cannot get to smoothen the frosting on my cake. I asked a staff to help me and I even learned some tips!
You don't have to cleanup! Yes, I guess this is the best part! (haha!) There are times when I want to bake at home but the idea of cleaning up after is turning me off. Here, you can use as much bowls, spatula, silicone molds, etc needed for the recipe and not to worry about washing them or putting them in the right places

You can see how I really loved the experience but there are just two watchouts if you're going in as a big group:

You can only bake for a maximum of 2hours. Two hours is supposedly sufficient to finish the whole process. But some factors could take up your time such as unfamiliarity, trying to make everything perfect, and when you encounter some boo-boos. Just be mindful of the time
There could be too many bakers at the same station. The tendency when you're in a big group is that you'll all start at the same time. Since it usually starts with preparing and measuring ingredients, that specific area can get crowded

Overall, this is really a fun experience to try with your family or friends! When I showed the videos and photos to my 9-year-old son, he instantly got excited. So yes, I'm going to bring him soon!

This is going to be a perfect Mother's Day gift as well!

Sure, it sounds un-romantic, but if you schedule a few hours of intimacy instead of springing it on your partner, only to be scorned because “they have a headache,” you both have something to look forward to. Haven’t had sex in a while? “How about cuddling?” says Dr. Sison. “It’s still intimate and can even be sweeter.”

If despite all efforts, things aren’t improving, it’s recommended for couples to seek professional help like a counselor or a therapist.

You can try out individual therapy or marriage counseling. With these interventions, couples can learn healthy ways to communicate and prevent unhealthy habits and patterns, which will eventually help them de-escalate issues in the future and create a more loving relationship

Amidst the rising cases of Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease and the recently detected presence of COVID-19 omicron subvariant XXB.1.5 in the PH, Procter & Gamble (P&G) Philippines, the multinational consumer goods company with a diverse range of superior health care, home care, beauty, and grooming products, through its partnership with the Manila Water Foundation (MWF) handed out Safeguard Handwash products as a pre-Valentine’s day gift to LRT-2 commuters.

According to the Department of Health, handwashing with soap is key to fighting against COVID-19, and regular handwashing with soap can reduce the likelihood of common coronavirus infection by 36%. However, not all Filipinos have access to handwashing facilities, water, and/or soap.

Through this project, not only are we promoting proper handwashing with soap, which is one of the key preventive measures against diseases and infections, but we are also bringing access to proper handwashing stations closer to Filipinos

Over 2,000 pieces of Safeguard Liquid Handsoaps were given out in LRT-2 stations Antipolo, Araneta Center Cubao, Legarda, and Recto. Five (5) portable handwashing stations called HappyTaps were also set up in each station to encourage frequent and proper handwashing with soap and water with Safeguard’s Insta-foam Handwash. Passengers who washed their hands in the stations were given the chance to win a gift pack of hygiene products through MWF’s electronic raffle.

The project, titled “We Love Safe Hands sa Riles” is part of the series of MWF 18th Anniversary events. Other projects such as outreach programs, donation handovers, and #SafeWASH seminars are also in the pipeline for P&G and MWF in the coming weeks.

If kids don’t usually come up during discussions on cardiovascular disease, that’s because hypertension, stroke, high cholesterol, and heart attack due to the buildup of plaque in the arteries are thought to be old people’s illnesses, ailments that shouldn’t concern the young until they become adults themselves.

But in a country where cardiovascular diseases account for a third of the deaths of its population (or 72% of the deaths in the country in 2021, according to the Philippine Statistics Office), efforts to keep our heart healthy should start years before we become adults—they should begin as early as childhood.

Though heart disease is hereditary (meaning you are more likely to have it if your close blood relatives do), it can also develop as a consequence of one’s environment

Kids who are exposed to family members who smoke and drink, eat mostly processed food, and have sedentary lifestyles are likely to follow in their footsteps. So, while cardiovascular diseases like heart attack and stroke are associated with the older generation, their causes can be traced to childhood

Some causes of cardiovascular diseases like obesity, blocked arteries, unhealthy cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, and diabetes can all begin in the early years, which means that they can also be prevented. Make this Heart Month meaningful by adopting these three lifestyle habits to keep your little ones’ hearts healthy. Easy to do, they ensure your kids remain strong well into middle age and beyond—with their children and their children’s children.

Eat Nutritious Food

Introduce quality nutrition the minute your kids are born. Start with breastmilk, which is rich in protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. When they’re ready for solids, make them get used to and appreciate fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and low-fat dairy products.

And because you’re no spoilsport, treat them to fast-food fare and sugary drinks occasionally but do practice portion control. Don’t offer too much that they overeat or waste food, or too little that they end up craving for more

Get Active

In this age of the internet, kids typically spend their days seated and staring at a computer screen, tablet, or phone.

Physical activity doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. Letting loose at the playground, dancing, or engaging in sports for 30 minutes to an hour a day deliver oxygen and nutrients that allow the cardiovascular system to work more efficiently. They also strengthen muscles and boost endurance. More importantly, they prevent your kids from being overweight or obese, a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Make them develop a lifelong love of physical fitness and activity today

Dr. Canto points out.

Kick Bad Habits

Do you smoke or drink? Stay up late? Consider junk food a food group? There’s a strong possibility your kids will too. Kids love mirroring what their parents do, so it’s best to lead a healthy lifestyle yourself.

If you’re going to be a role model for your children, inspire them by espousing healthy habits like quitting smoking and minding your sleep hygiene

Dr. Canto reminds.

Secondhand cigarette smoke and excessive alcohol consumption are linked not only to cardiovascular diseases, but also to certain cancers and a weak immune system, Dr. Canto adds. Hypertension, obesity, heart attack, and stroke are possible effects of not getting the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep as well as sticking to an unhealthy diet.

While all these recommendations apply to any age, your children will certainly reap their full benefits the longest, provided you start early.

Kids are more likely to stick to a heart-healthy lifestyle if they grow up exposed to it, especially during their most formative years. Once these good-for-the-heart habits are instilled in them, they would be harder to break, even when they reach adulthood

Gifted Brain Equals Gifted Kid: Is this the New Formula?

The world is opening up after years of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. And with the economy slowly returning to its pre-pandemic status, parents, too, are starting to revert back to their regular, pre-pandemic lifestyle. With this, however, parents notice that their kids are growing up in a different environment versus previous generations.

“Iba na ang mga bata ngayon” is what we are realizing. They are more exposed to technology and other external stimuli as they have relied on mobile games, internet videos, and online messaging to entertain themselves and connect with their peers. But due to the limited exposure and activities for years, they also experienced delays in brain development. Luckily, parents can still address this and raise their kids into gifted kids amid any situation through nurturing their brain first with proper stimulation and nutrition.

During the “Gifted Together” event held at the Shangri-La, The Fort Manila in Taguig City on January 26, Pediatric experts and parents, led by event host Issa Litton, discussed how raising a gifted kid starts with a gifted brain—and what parents can do to implement this winning formula.

Dr. Sean Deoni, Associate Professor, Pediatrics and Diagnostic Imaging at Brown University said 90% of a kid’s brain development happens during the first five years of their lives. A big part of this development is the brain’s myelination, a process by which information is being processed quickly for better understanding.

In fact, studies have shown, particularly the World’s First Pediatric Neuroimaging Study, that “an increase of +36% percent in myelin can lead to faster language development, together with proper nutrition and stimulation”, says Dr. Sean.

The brain continues to develop as we grow older. But the brain’s development also has a trajectory that is often dictated by how it grows during our childhood, particularly from birth to five years of age. And studies have shown, particularly at the World’s First Pediatric Neuroimaging Study to help advance brain development, that processes during brain development, can enhance the brain’s functions. These processes—for instance, myelination—can be supported by proper diet and nutrition

Dr. Deoni said.

Dr. Ryan Carvalho, Chief Medical Officer & Global Head of Nutrition Product Development Center said that brain development depends highly on two factors: time and nutrition. Docosahezaenic acid (DHA) in kid’s milk is known to be an essential nutrient that promotes health and development. DHA, with a kid’s regular healthy diet, is believed to help promote adequate brain development. But Carvalho said that with the additional health risks due to the pandemic—particularly how it has affected the kid’s dietary habits and exposure to health risks and stimulation—this may not be enough.

Carvalho said improving kid’s diet and nutrition can usurp these adverse effects and put brain development on the right track. For instance, he noted that studies have shown that DHA together with Milk Oligosaccharides (MOS+), which includes Sialic Acid, helps double up the development of memory, learning, and cognitive skills in kids.

Carvalho explained,

With how our world has changed due to the pandemic, it’s important to pay closer attention to our kid’s diet. Kids are more susceptible to hindrances in their brain development. So parents should implement changes and improvements to their lifestyles and diets to prevent these roadblocks from affecting their kids in their growth

As a mother herself, Georgina Wilson said it’s enlightening to learn how important nurturing the kid’s gifted brain is in raising a gifted kid.
