The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (often shortened to Sprint Cup or the Cup Series) is the top racing series of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). The series was originally known as the Strictly Stock Series (1949) and Grand National Series (1950–1970). While leasing its naming rights to R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, it was known as the Winston Cup Series (1971–2003). When a similar deal was made with Sprint Nextel Corporation, it became the NEXTEL Cup Series (2004–2007). It is sometimes erroneously referred to as simply, NASCAR.

The drivers' champion is determined by a point system where points are given according to finishing placement and laps led. The season is divided into two segments. After the first 26 races, the 12 highest ranked drivers are seeded based on their total number of wins and compete in the last 10 races with the difference in points greatly equalized. This is called the Chase for the Championship.

The series holds strong roots in the Southeastern United States with half of its 36-race season in that region. The Daytona 500, its most prestigious race, had a television audience in the U.S. of about 16 million viewers in 2009.[3] Previously, races have been held in Canada, and exhibition races were held in Japan and Australia.

Sprint Cup Series cars are unique in automobile racing. The engines are powerful enough to reach speeds over 200 mph (320 km/h), but high weight makes for poor handling. Their bodies and chassis are strictly regulated to ensure parity, and electronics are generally spartan in nature.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (formerly the NASCAR SuperTruck Series presented by Craftsman and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series) is a pickup truck racing series owned and operated by the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. It is the only series in all of NASCAR to race modified production pickup trucks and is one of the three national divisions of NASCAR, together with the Nationwide Series and the top level Sprint Cup Series. On December 3, 2007, Sears Holdings Corporation announced that, at the conclusion of the 2008 season, its Craftsman brand would no longer sponsor the series. Craftsman had been the title sponsor since 1995, the year NASCAR founded the series.
The Camping World Truck Series returns to Darlington Raceway this weekend after a nearly six-year absence with a race that is appropriately named the Too Tough to Tame 200 (7 p.m. ET Saturday on SPEED).

"There's never a corner, a straightaway, not a single moment when you are under green that you can forget about the race track," series points leader Todd Bodine said. "You race it every lap, and you are racing the 35 trucks around you. It takes a lot of patience, and at the same time, you've really got to get after it."

The track's unusual egg-shaped configuration and thin racing groove make it difficult for even the most accomplished drivers to navigate. The quickest way around Darlington is the longest way -- next to the wall -- but that increases the risk of multiple excursions into the concrete, leaving drivers with all manner of black marks, or "Darlington stripes," on their cars or trucks.

"Darlington takes 100 percent concentration every lap," said Aric Almirola, who finished 41st in his lone Darlington start in a Nationwide Series car in 2007. "The second you lose focus, the Lady in Black will quickly remind you why she demands so much respect. There's a reason it has a reputation for being such a difficult track. You're always just inches away from adding another stripe to the wall."

The CARFAX 250 is a NASCAR Nationwide Series race that takes place at Michigan International Speedway. First held in 1992, the race was a 200 miles (320 km) event from its inception through 1999, and was extended to 250 miles starting with the 2000 race.

The 2007 CARFAX 250 was the first-ever carbon neutral stock car event. Through partnerships with The Conservation Fund and Carbonfund.org, Carfax offset all carbon emissions generated by the race, including carbon emissions from fans attending the race
The second race with the new Nationwide Series car has some drivers a little worried.

Well, maybe a lot worried.

"I'm actually terrified, to be honest with you," Steve Wallace said. "I think we all are."

Why is Wallace, normally a fearless young race driver, afraid? Because the new car has never been run on a track like 2-mile Michigan International Speedway, site of Saturday's Carfax 250. The car has been tested at 1.5-mile Charlotte Motor Speedway and ran last month at 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway.

But it had never seen a track like Michigan until Thursday's test day.

"We've only run our car one time," Wallace said. "We haven't been able to test it anywhere. We tested it at Daytona, we raced Daytona and we come back and they've been sitting on jack stands since then. We've been to the seven-post rig a lot. We've done a lot of work like that, but as far as on-track activities, we haven't been able to tweak or tune on these things.

"To be quite honest, we're just kind of going there with what Toyota has seen on all of the shaker rigs and kind of what they're recommending. … It's going to be wild—for us at least."

Fellow Toyota driver Jason Leffler understands Wallace's sentiment.

"Daytona was so different, but it was fun at the same time," Leffler said. "Your adjustments were different and everything you did with the racecar. Everybody is learning, and I think the show was pretty good. I think the new car looks good on the racetrack. It's something that everybody in the Nationwide Series should be proud of.

"Michigan will be fun. At the same time I can see where Steve is coming from. It would be nice for all of us to be able to test some more and try to get a handle on the things, but we're all in the same boat. You can't test so we're learning as we go and you'll see a lot of learning going on in the race at Michigan. But it should be fun."

And since no one turned laps at Michigan in the new car until Thursday's extended practice, it could be an opportunity for someone to take an advantage.

"I'm excited because we're all blind going into this, pretty much," Justin Allgaier said. "We all want to see how it's going to turn out. Our car was horrible at Michigan last year. I'm not going to lie. We were way off-base and very uncomfortable. With change brings a totally different setup."

The Zippo 200 at the Glen is a NASCAR Nationwide Series race that takes place at the Watkins Glen International circuit in New York.The race has been run every year since 2005 and marked the return of NASCAR's lower-tier series to the Glen. Prior to this a race was run from 1991-2001, and was dropped after NASCAR decided to remove the road course events from all lower series' schedules. The Brickyard 400 is an annual 400–mile (644 km) NASCAR Sprint Cup points race held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana. The event, when first held in 1994, marked the first race other than the Indianapolis 500 to be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1916. Since the inaugural race, the Brickyard 400 has become NASCAR's most–attended event, drawing an estimated crowd of more than 250,000 fans annually. The term "Brickyard" is in reference to the nickname historically used for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1910. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (previously known as Laguna Seca Raceway) is a paved road racing track used for both auto racing and motorcycle racing, originally constructed in 1957 near Monterey, California, USA.

The current racetrack is 2.238 miles (3.602 km) in length with a 300 foot (91 m) elevation change. It has eleven turns, including the famous "Corkscrew" at Turns 8 and 8A. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (previously known as Laguna Seca Raceway) is a paved road racing track used for both auto racing and motorcycle racing, originally constructed in 1957 near Monterey, California, USA.

The current racetrack is 2.238 miles (3.602 km) in length with a 300 foot (91 m) elevation change. It has eleven turns, including the famous "Corkscrew" at Turns 8 and 8A. A variety of racing, exhibition and entertainment events are held at the raceway, ranging from superkarts to American Le Mans racing to music festivals.

World championship leader Jorge Lorenzo was quickest in second practice for Sunday's USA Grand Prix.

The Spaniard, who has never won at the Laguna Seca track, was 0.063sec faster on his Yamaha than Australia's Ducati rider Casey Stoner, who had topped the time charts on Friday.

Dani Pedrosa, who won the US race last year, was third fastest on a Honda.

World champion Valentino Rossi, racing for the second time since breaking his leg in Italy seven weeks ago, was sixth fastest on his Yamaha, 0.530sec off teammate Lorenzo.

The Sprint Cup Series (often shortened to Sprint Cup or the Cup Series) is the top racing series of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). The series was originally known as the Strictly Stock Series (1949) and Grand National Series (1950-1970). While leasing its naming rights to R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, it was known as the Winston Cup Series (1971-2003). When a similar deal was made with Sprint Nextel Corporation, it became the NEXTEL Cup Series (2004-2007). It is sometimes erroneously referred to as simply, NASCAR.

The drivers' champion is determined by a point system where points are given according to finishing placement and laps led. The season is divided into two segments. After the first 26 races, the 12 highest ranked drivers are seeded based on their total number of wins and compete in the last 10 races with the difference in points greatly equalized. This is called the Chase for the Championship.[2] In 2009, Jimmie Johnson became the only driver to win four consecutive Sprint Cup championships.

The series holds strong roots in the Southeastern United States with half of its 36-race season in that region. However, it has grown to become one of the six most popular professional sports in the United States. The Daytona 500, its most prestigious race, had a television audience in the U.S. of about 16 million viewers in 2009. Previously, races have been held in Canada, and exhibition races were held in Japan and Australia.

Sprint Cup Series cars are unique in automobile racing. The engines are powerful enough to reach speeds over 200 mph (320 km/h), but high weight makes for poor handling. Their bodies and chassis are strictly regulated to ensure parity, and electronics are generally spartan in nature.
