4 Mini Drawstring Totes

I was so happy with my smaller drawstring tote prototype that I made 5 more just in time for my May show. Usually I dye a set of fabric and webbing specifically for a set of bags, but this time I used one of a kind multicolor fabrics with leftovers of dyed webbing I had in the nooks and crannies of my studio:

I’m super happy with these!

I used to blog 5 days a week. And now literally years have gone by since my last blog post! So much has changed, including a lot on the backend of WordPress, it makes me want to give up, but I won’t. Instead, I’ll just start, knowing that I’ll get better if I just do SOMETHING!

And so, I’ll start with a “secret sewing” project – a present for a good friend who follows me on Instagram, so I couldn’t post about it there. She’s a knitter and loves the palette I was working in many many moons ago, so I pulled out a box of scraps and put together this panel:

I then turned it into a medium sized rice pouch (pattern by K Z Stevens):

She loves it, and put it to immediate use as a project bag!

October 2021 Goals

It’s been a long time since I’ve put together one of my goals post! It’s been almost 2 years since my last art show, Art, for Heaven’s Sake, and the show will go on this year. (It’s outside, and they’re going to have strict COVID protocols…). And so, I need a list of what I want to get done by then! I’ve got 5 weekends, the last one is 4 days long with our “Study Days” at the dayjob in October, let’s see how much I can get accomplished!

June Lake: Working on a New Color Palette

A good friend has asked me to create a new multi-color fabric palette of some very specific blues, greens and ochre. She wanted it quite dark and muddy, with lots of blue. Here’s the first test:

June Lake 1st Try

This was too muddy with not enough blue for her, so I removed the dark grey and added a blue tone:

It still wasn’t right, I suggested we add another light value, this light green/ochre color on the left side:

We also readjusted the proportions of each of the 5 hues, I dyed those yesterday and here’s the result:

She likes this one, but also the second try, so I think there’s another round of trials still coming. Here’s round 3 with all of the single colors as well:

I’m calling this palette “June Lake” because she has a cabin up there that I’ve visited, and these colors are very reminiscent of that area!

Virtual Holiday Open Studio!

Well, with the stay at home order set to go into effect tomorrow night, my Holiday Open Studio this year will be virtual!!!

My work at the University of Redlands ended a couple of days ago, our Fall semester started earlier, so beyond waiting for overdue lab reports, I am FINALLY ready to start creating again! First in line is more of this fun Rice Bag that I made earlier this Fall:

If December 12/13 doesn’t work for you, you are always welcome to call or email me and set up a time for a Zoom/Facetime/Facebook Messenger meeting. I’ve got plenty of bags, hopefully some of the new rice pouches, as well as ornaments and shibori votives!
