The project expects to attain that conservation objective through a host of measures directly involving the communities concerned in the co-management of the resources of protected areas, which are often considered to be the sole responsibility of government. Such direct community involvement of the communities in the day-to-day management of protected areas are thus designed to materialize the ties of community ownership of the resources in need of protection and long-term conservation. → Read More:Press coverage (PDF – 515Kb)

The agricultural challenges Cameroon is facing today can be analyzed from several angles, as I did in my 10-part series of articles on rural development challenges in Africa, published in Cameroon Business Today over the past several months. In the special Cameroon context, I would like to draw attention to some myths seemingly dear to our country’s policy makers on how to motivate our farmers to produce more quantity and quality and to strive ultimately to perform an agricultural miracle for the country.

The Pan-African agenda pursued by Africa’s leadership since the 1950s can be described as a coin with political and economic sides. A political union, well advanced with the establishment in 1963 of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), which subsequently morphed into the African Union (AU) in 2001, was considered, logically, as the pre-requisite for the economic integration of the continent. Political union and economic union were to reinforce each other. However, the empirical reality to date suggests that it is proving exceedingly more difficult to build granite pillars of economic integration across the continent than it was to establish the OAU and AU.
