Makeup and Acne: Tips on Getting Flawless Skin

I have seen your Youtube videos with interest. I have few questions I hope you will help me to answer them.

Im 33 years old and i still get pimples (acne) on my T-zone. No matter what I do i get it there in T-zone.

I have etcnic feature (I guess).

I have paid for MAC make up lesson for 150 dollars and I need to buy Mac products for 150dollars. So my questions are do you recommend and products on Mac that will not be bad for my skin?

Thanks for the email. I will try to answer as best as I can.

Unfortunately, in my opinion, while it is great for photo shoots, MAC makeup is not made for acne prone skin.

As a former model, I had horrible skin because of the MAC studio fix and other products makeup artists used on me (virtually all of them used Studio Fix). This was the main reason that I got into skincare and makeup was to find out what to do for my acne prone skin.

This is also one reason that we created our products. None of them will cause acne or pimples. This is why we can say our products are non-comedogenic. MAC does not make non-comedogenic products, unfortunately. I highly recommend against using products that are not made for acne prone skin if you are prone to acne.

I always suggest to people in your position to use MAC for color (they have amazing eye shadows and lip color). However, I do NOT recommend it for foundation or moisturizers. Stick to products that say "non comedogenic" on the label. If they don't say it, don't use it!

History of Henri Bendel

Henri Willis Bendel, a milliner by trade, was the first retailer to bring the designs of Coco Chanel over to the United States from Paris. The company he founded maintained this tradition of introducing influential socialites to what's new and next in fashion by launching designers including Anna Sui, Stephen Burrows, Rick Owens and Diane von Furstenberg. Bendel's also fosters the work of upcoming designers through its semi-annual "Open-See" events, at which vendors can present merchandise to corporate buyers on a "first come, first seen" basis, with the chance that their pieces will be selected for a trunk show or even for sale in the Fifth Avenue store.

I was wondering if you can recommend a color for foundation for me. I now use Bobbie Browns warm sand foundation stick. I currently use all Bobbi Brown makeup and skin care. I would like to try your makeup line, but I'm a little hesitant since Bare Minerals broke me out. Also, how I should prep my face for your foundation? Also not sure in the order of products I should use of yours. So if you could please recommend a color for foundation and concealer and what other products I will need and the order to use them in. I'm light skinned, blue eyes, medium brown hair and freckled. I now use "warm sand" in the Bobbi Brown line. Thank you.

Summer Skin Wear Sunscreen Under Makeup

It’s great to be outdoors during the summer months and with the season comes a few extra precautions to keep your skin protected and healthy.. Wearing sunscreen under your makeup can prevent sun damage . Ii’s important to use a sunscreen to protect against ultra violet rays and we recommend using it daily. If you are spending time out doors jiking or at the beach remember to regularly apply it every two hours. Reapply sunscreen especially after being in the water. There are new guidelines for sunscreen and whether or not yours says “water proof” don’t be fooled into thinking the sun can’t do any damage. SPF protection of 15 to 30 should be used with more sensitive skins using a higher SPF. Avoid using sunblocks with harsh chemicals such as with parabens, quaternium 15 or DMDM hydratonin that releases formaldehyde that will damage your bodies ability to produce collagen and elastin. Comments/Questions: Hello - I'm writing from the UK....I have been looking at your website for a long time and have purchased some of your lipstains....I am, however, a little confused...you are now starting to produce cosmetics which are Titanium Dioxide free - I just wondered why? - in all mineral make-up brands that I have looked at Titanium Dioxide appears in various quantities - it is stated that it is non-toxic and not harmful in whatever quantities...can you please let me know why you are now producing products which don't contain this ingredient. What about sun protection in cosmetics which don't contain titanium dioxide too?

Hi Rosemary

Minimizing Titanium Dioxide (TD) in our products does not have to do with toxicity, necessarily. It has to do with sensitive skin issues. Over the years we have found that there are more and more allergies to Titanium Dioxide. You are correct in saying that all mineral makeup contains this ingredient. However we are very proud to use the phrase "Beyond Mineral Makeup". We say this because while traditional mineral makeup is good in theory, many women are still unhappy with it due to dryness and "the itchies" that come with it. We do not consider ourselves mineral makeup--we are much better!

Because of this, our Veludo Velvet Foundation, Finale, and Saude Pele have always been free of not only TD, but Bismuth Oxychloride (another known allergen--this ingredient causes an itching sensation in many people).

Because of the influx of women who seem to be allergic to TD, we are trying to minimize it in as many products as possible. Also, TD is very good at absorbing oil and moisture. While this is fine for oily skin, most of our clients have dry skin. So, putting on an ingredient that absorbs oil and water only dries and irritates the skin more.

We truly believe that our powders are in a class by themselves. We do not consider them to be traditional mineral makeup--they are so much more.

As far as sunscreen in makeup is concerned, I always tell my clients that you should never rely on a makeup with SPF to be you main sunblock. Always use a product with SPF 45 that is specifically a sunblock, and not a powder with SPF 15. This is far from being enough coverage. The reason being, when they test sunscreen numbers, they use a TABLESPOON of product per square inch of skin. There is no way you use that. We all use a fraction of that amount of powder! In reality a powder that is 'SPF 15' is really about a 4 or 5! We do not promote our makeup as a sunscreen, and believe that nobody else should either. If sun protection is an issue, ALWAYS use it under your makeup.

1. Easy to apply
Why so fanatical you may ask? Back in my Paris days before I had a go see for Dior, Kenzo, Balmain, CHANEL, I put in hours of preparation time into my appearance from what I wore to my makeup and hair. Makeup was my least favorite part, ordeal that it was. Why an ordeal? It was the form of the makeup itself. I began with a pore clogging runny liquid foundation that had to be carefully applied with a makeup sponge. Then I would move onto concealers, powder (2 layers), a layer of lipstick followed by a layer of powder to set it, followed by another layer of lipstick, blush, eye shadow, eye liner, eyebrows and finally mascara. Careful scrutiny was required to make sure I did not miss a spot and the colors matched my skin. Are Essential Oils Toxic or Safe???

Question: I just became a new customer of Christopher Drummond Beauty, and am excited to try the products but I read that many of the ingredients cdb uses are volatile essential oils that are maybe natural, but not at all healthy for the skin ESP long term. I read they can cause cell death in research ESP lavendar oil, geranium, lime oil, clover....to be honest most of the essential oils used are not good to put on skin. Now I'm worried.
