NURTW Chieftain Toba Ijaya Assassinated In Lagos

Comrade Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya, the Organising Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Lagos State Council, has died after succumbing to injuries sustained in a suspected assassination attempt by gunmen.

Ajiboye was attacked on Sunday night, July 12, while returning home from the Fadeyi area of Lagos. Gunmen intercepted his vehicle along the Ikorodu Road axis near Fadeyi and opened fire, riddling the car with bullets.

He was rushed to a medical facility for treatment but passed away on Tuesday morning, July 14.

The NURTW Lagos State Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, confirmed the death in an emotional tribute, describing the deceased as a “trusted friend and pillar” of the union’s leadership team.

“Toba was more than a colleague; he was a reliable ally who contributed immensely to the union,” Sego was quoted as saying.

The incident has triggered tension in Mushin, Fadeyi, and surrounding areas, with heavy police presence reported as authorities work to prevent possible retaliation.

The NURTW has a well-documented history of violent internal power struggles, raising concerns among residents and security agencies.

Initial reports suggested Ajiboye had survived the attack and was receiving treatment, sparking relief among union members and associates.

However, fresh updates on Tuesday confirmed his demise, sending shockwaves through the transport union and political circles in Lagos.

Social media platforms were awash with tributes and unverified speculations linking the attack to broader rivalries, including past incidents involving cult groups.

However, no official motive has been established, and the Lagos State Police Command is yet to issue a detailed statement on arrests or ongoing investigations.

Ajiboye, a prominent figure from Mushin, was known for his grassroots influence within the NURTW.

His death comes at a time of heightened security concerns in Lagos, as the union continues to play a significant role in the state’s transportation politics.

Self-acclaimed Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, has been arrested shortly after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a warrant for his arrest.

The arrest followed an order by Justice Mohammed Umar after Adeyemi failed to appear in court for his arraignment over alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the arrest of Adeyemi after he was absent when his case was called.

Adeyemi was expected to take his plea before Justice Umar on an eight-count charge but did not appear in court.

The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, was called on Tuesday without the defendant present.

According to Channels Television, Justice Umar subsequently ordered Adeyemi’s arrest over his failure to attend the proceedings.

The charges, filed on November 27, 2025, by police prosecutor Wisdom Madaki, also listed two other defendants.

The prosecution plans to present several witnesses during the trial, including the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Paul Emmanuel; Jeremiah Imoukhede; Ituah Sylvester; two officials from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Akimbo Shola and Adamu Balongu; and a Deputy Superintendent of Police.

The court’s decision came a day after Adeyemi denied reports that he had gone into hiding to avoid arrest by security agencies.

During an interview on Channels Television on Monday, he maintained that he stayed away from public appearances because he feared for his safety.

“I’m ready to show my face. I’m not hiding. I’m only fearing for my life because I have it on good authority that my life is in danger,” he said.

“There have been several attempts on my life.”

Adeyemi also repeated his claim that he paid ₦400 million through an intermediary to secure his appointment as Director-General of the disputed council.

He said those from whom he borrowed the money had petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over the payment.

Police had earlier disclosed that the investigation into the alleged PFIPC scandal began after the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President petitioned the Inspector-General of Police on October 17, 2025, over alleged forged appointment letters circulated in the name of the office.

EFCC Arraigns CEO For Alleged N16.8m Fraud In Enugu

The Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has arraigned one Ifeanyichukwu Ogbu, the Chief Executive Officer, Ski Hi-Entertainment before Justice Vincent C. Ezeugwu of the Enugu State High Court, sitting in Independence Layout, on a three-count charge bordering on issuance of dud cheque to the tune of N16, 847, 000 (Sixteen Million, Eight Hundred and Forty-Seven Thousand Naira).

Count one of the charges reads: “That you, Ifeanyichukwu Ogbu, trading under name and style of Ski Hi-Entertainment, on or about the 9th day of August, 2024 in Enugu, Enugu State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, issued a Zenith Bank Plc cheque number 00000211 dated 9th day of August, 2024 in the sum of Five Million, Five Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira (N5, 530, 000. 00) which upon presentation for payment within three months of issuance was dishonoured on the ground of insufficient funds in the account on which the cheque was drawn and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 (1) (a) of the Dishonoured Cheques (Offences) Act, Cap D11, Law of Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under Section 1 (1) (b) (i) of the same Act”.

The defendant pleaded “not guilty” to the charges when they were read to him and in view of his plea, counsel to the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE II Michael Ikechukwu Ani prayed the court for a trial date and for the defendant to be remanded at the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, Enugu.

The defence counsel, Chikelu Anya attempted to apply orally for his client's bail but was quickly reminded by the court that it is a court of records.

Justice Ezeugwu thereafter adjourned the matter to July 16, 2026 for hearing of bail application while the defendant was released to Anya to be produced in court on the next adjourned date.

The defendant was arrested following claims of Oby Onwuakor, the Sales/Front Office Manager of Ski Hi-Entertainment, on behalf of its management, that Ogbu made reservations for members of three Nigerian Premier Football League clubs and that after the expiration of their stay in the hotel, the entire bill accumulated to N17, 424, 600 (Seventeen Million, Four Hundred and Twenty-four Thousand, Six Hundred Naira).

The defendant, according to Onwuakor, paid only N1, 000, 000. 00 (One Million Naira) and issued three cheques to them which upon presentation for payment, was dishonoured on the ground of insufficient funds in the account.

Alleged N2b NEDC Fraud: Again, Absence Of Defendant Stalls Trial

The absence of the National Coordinator of Multi-Sectional Crisis Recovery Projects, MCRP, North East Development Commission, NEDC, Danjuma Mohammed on Thursday, June 25, 2026, stalled his trial before Justice K. N. Ogbonnaya of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, Zuba, Abuja.

Justice Ogbonnaya who frowned at the absence of the defendant on two sittings consecutively without any provable reason before the court, noted that there was no medical report before the court to show that the defendant was ill and receiving medical attention as the defence team claimed.

The first defendant, Mohammed is facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, alongside Prince Achem and Aminu Alhaji (at large) on amended 54-count charge, bordering on conspiracy, false pretence, financial fraud and forgery to the tune of N2.2 billion.

At Monday`s proceedings, prosecution counsel, Joshua Saidi informed the court that the prosecution was ready to proceed with the trial with its witnesses in court and ready to testify, while the defence counsel, Chuka Obidike informed the court that the first defendant was still undergoing surgery. He sought to tender his medical report before the court and requested for an adjournment.

Also counsel to the second defendant, J.J. Usman, who said that he came prepared for the proceedings added that he became constrained when he heard from the counsel to the first defendant that his client was going to have a second surgery and likely to have the third due to complications in his health.

The prosecution counsel, in his response, urged the court to discountenance the medical report and refuse the defence counsel’s prayer for adjournment as he was not in receipt of any report of the first defendant’s ill health to warrant his continued absence in court.

“My lord, I apply that it should be on record that this is not the first time, this is the second time that our witnesses are coming all the way from the Northeast. As I speak, no written report from the first defendant has been brought to my attention nor has it been served on me. My lord, if we have gotten prior notice we won’t have bothered our witnesses to come from the Northeast. The implication now is that when this defendant jumps bail, we may not know who the surety is, therefore counsel is not in the position to tell the court the whereabouts of the first defendant. Therefore, we submit that there is no reasonable excuse why the first defendant is not in court. In the circumstances, I apply for the revocation of his bail and the issuance of bench warrant against him and also a notice to the surety to show cause why he will not forfeit the bail bond. We therefore urge your lordship to discountenance their excuses and accordingly grant our prayer,” he said.

The judge, in her ruling, faulted the tendering of the medical report, as no trial proceeding was going on at the moment and no witness testifying or being cross-examined. With no such process going on in court, the judge stated the medical report cannot therefore, be tendered in evidence, but rather through an application made through the registrar of the court.

“The application is misleading, as counsel did not serve the court with any medical report at the last adjourned date. The court is surprised at the counsel in this matter that they did not deem it fit to serve the court, when they know it should be served on the court. Even if an application is made at the Court of Appeal regarding bail, that doesn’t mean the defendant will jump bail at the lower court. As far as I am concerned, the whereabouts of the defendant is unknown to the court, the oral submission that he is due for a surgery is on the basis of hearsay, not verification. Nobody is receiving the application because the court is not doing a trial and no witness is testifying. The court has laid bare all that has transpired, however, the court will not revoke the bail, but exercise discretionary power not by the submission made by the counsel to the first defendant. The court will adjourn for the last time on the instance of the first defendant for now and the bail revocation will be placed in abeyance,” she said.

She adjourned the matter till September 25,29, 2026 for continuation of trial.

Court Fixes July 21 For Arraignment Of Four Suspects Over Alleged Hacking Of Firm’s Zenith Bank Account

The inspector-general of police (IGP) will on July 21 arraign four suspects over the alleged hacking of the bank account and confidential financial records of Makers Island Company Limited.

Hauwa Yilwan, judge of a federal high court, fixed the date on Monday after the prosecution informed the court that all the defendants, except the bank, had been served with the charge.

Those listed in the charge are Oluwaseyi Famouza, Paul Oku, Yesu-Felix Abosede Alice, and Zenith Bank Plc, which is named as the fourth defendant.

The defendants are facing an eight-count charge bordering on alleged conspiracy, unlawful access to computer systems, unauthorised disclosure of confidential financial information and other offences under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 (as amended).

According to the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/349/2026, the defendants allegedly used electronic communication systems and banking computer infrastructure to gain unauthorised access to, intercept and disclose confidential financial data belonging to Makers Island Company Limited.

The police alleged that the acts were carried out without lawful authority or a court order and constituted offences under Sections 6, 11, 12(2), 16(1) and 27 of the Cybercrimes Act.

Only the first defendant was present in court when the matter was called on Monday.

F.G. Gabriel, the prosecution counsel, told the court that the remaining defendants had been served with the charge, while service on the bank would be completed before the end of the day.

Following the update, the judge adjourned the matter until July 21 for the defendants to be arraigned and take their plea.

Adeniyi Adeyemi, director-general (DG) of the “controversial” presidential foreign intervention promotion council (PFIPC), says those who lent him N100 million to secure the appointment have petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over repayment.

Adeyemi, who is facing allegations of forgery and impersonation over the existence of the PFIPC, spoke on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

The presidency has said the council does not exist and that Adeyemi was never appointed by the office of the chief of staff to the president.

Nigerian Army Intercepts Illegal Arms Shipment, Recovers Seven Weapons In Kaduna

Troops of Sector 7, Operation ENDURING PEACE, have disrupted a suspected arms trafficking syndicate and recovered seven illegal firearms during an intelligence-led operation in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to the Nigerian Army, the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of illegal weapons from Jos, Plateau State, to Niger State. Acting on the information, troops mounted a targeted stop-and-search operation in the early hours of Monday, July 13, 2026, at the Samaru Checkpoint, where they intercepted an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz suspected of transporting the weapons.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and four submachine guns (SMGs), which had been carefully concealed inside the car.

During the operation, one of the suspects allegedly attempted to flee but was shot while trying to escape arrest. The Nigerian Army said he was immediately evacuated to the Sector 7 Medical Centre in Kafanchan, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the recovered weapons were allegedly supplied by two suspected arms dealers based in Jos and were being transported to an intended recipient in Niger State. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected trafficking network.

The Army said the successful operation reflects its continued commitment to disrupting illegal arms proliferation, dismantling criminal networks and improving security across the country. It also appealed to Nigerians to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing efforts against criminal activities.

Full Statement by Nigerian Police FCT Command

RE: CASE OF THE MURDER OF ADIMIKE GODWIN IN GUZAPE: FCT POLICE COMMAND ARRAIGNS THREE SUSPECTS IN COURT.

The FCT Police Command has arraigned Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony, Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade before the FCT High Court 13, in connection with the murder of Adimike Godwin, the father of two of the suspects, in Guzape area of the FCT.

The tragic incident occurred on the 15th of May, 2026, when a distress call was received at the Guzape Divisional Headquarters from a relative of the deceased reporting that he was unresponsive to attempts to reach him. Police detectives promptly responded to the scene and found him lying unconscious in his room with multiple stab wounds. He was immediately rushed to Karu General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel on duty.

Police Statement On The Murder Of Lucky Adimike

Following a discreet and comprehensive investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD., FCAI, five suspects were initially arrested in connection with the case, comprising Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony, Adimike Chinyere Stephany, Comfort Ajibade, the deceased’s driver and gateman. Upon the conclusion of investigations, Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony, Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade were charged to court.

The suspects were arraigned before the FCT High Court 13 on a four-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy to commit culpable homicide, culpable homicide, and offences under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act. Specifically, all three defendants were jointly charged with conspiracy to commit culpable homicide and culpable homicide in relation to the death of Adimike Godwin. In addition, Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony was separately charged with entering into a same-sex civil union, while Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade were jointly charged with entering into a same-sex civil union, contrary to the provisions of the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act. The Court adjourned the matter to 30th September, 2026 for further proceedings and ordered that the three defendants be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending the hearing.

The FCT Police Command assures residents of the Federal Capital Territory that it will continue to pursue justice for victims of crime while respecting the constitutional rights of all persons throughout the judicial process.

FG Berates Gov Makinde For Urging UN To Investigate Abduction Of Oyo Teachers , Pupils

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga on Monday criticised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over his call for a United Nations-led investigation into the abduction of pupils and teachers in the state, describing the demand as unnecessary and politically motivated.

Makinde, while formally assuming responsibility for the welfare, rehabilitation and education of the 45 teachers and pupils rescued after spending 56 days in captivity on Monday, called for a UN-backed investigation into the abduction, saying Nigerians deserved a full account of the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Armed bandits had on May 15, 2026 attacked three schools in Yawota and Ahoro Esienle communities in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State, abducting the 39 pupils and six teachers.

Bayo Onanuga said the governor’s request suggested a lack of confidence in Nigeria’s security institutions, insisting that the military and other security agencies had already provided explanations on the rescue operation.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga in an exclusive interview with 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡, said the Presidency had no objection to an international body examining the incident if Makinde believed there were unresolved issues.

“The Governor has just expressed his opinion that the UN should probe this incident. Our doors are open. Let the UN come if he thinks there is more to it than what our military has explained,” he said.

He, however, questioned the basis for the governor’s demand, arguing that security agencies had no reason to deliberately subject Nigerians, especially children, to prolonged captivity.

According to him, the rescue operation came at a cost, with some security personnel, including members of the military and Amotekun, losing their lives while pursuing the abductors.

Onanuga said it was “unthinkable” that anyone would deliberately conspire to expose the victims to the 56-day ordeal, including the killing of a mathematics teacher during captivity.

“Look at those kids. Some of them are just about four or six years old. Will anyone want to deliberately subject them to the trauma they went through for 56 days?” he asked.

The presidential spokesman accused Makinde, who is a presidential aspirant, of allowing political considerations to influence his call for an international probe.

“It is just unfortunate that Mr Makinde, maybe because of politics, because he is a presidential candidate now, doesn’t have any trust in our own institutions and is now calling on an external body to come and investigate,” he said.

Onanuga added that the military and the Department of State Services had already disclosed what they knew about the incident, describing the governor’s demand as “unwarranted” and “absolutely unnecessary.”

He accused Makinde of attempting to politicise the matter, saying, “The man is just playing politics, and it is the politics of the bizarre. He wants to weaponise anything available, including dredging up a strange conspiracy theory.”

Makinde called on the UN and other international human rights and accountability bodies to investigate the abduction of the pupils and teachers in a video shared by Oyo Affairs on Monday following the arrival of the rescued pupils and teachers at the Oyo State Secretariat after their handover by the Federal Government.

“The circumstances surrounding this incident are sufficiently grave and unusual to warrant independent scrutiny beyond our domestic institution.

“I therefore, with a full sense of responsibility as the Executive Governor of Oyo State, call on the appropriate international human rights and accountability mechanisms, including those within the United Nations system, to closely examine the facts surrounding this abduction and the circumstances of its resolution,” Makinde said.

He explained that the call for international scrutiny was aimed at ensuring accountability rather than discrediting Nigerian institutions.

“Such scrutiny is not intended to undermine our institution. Rather, it is intended to reinforce public confidence that the truth will be established and that every person found to bear responsibility, regardless of office, influence or affiliation, will be held accountable,” the governor said.

Makinde also reminded the Federal Government of its constitutional responsibility for national security.

US Woman Accused of Stalking Man She Met on Match.com, Then Breaking Into His Home After Rejection

A 30-year-old Pennsylvania woman is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say she refused to accept the end of a brief relationship and allegedly broke into the home of a man she met through Match.com.

According to Falls Township Police, Lindsay Carole Harris of Ambler connected with the Bucks County man on the dating app in January 2026. The two reportedly met in person once before the man told Harris he was no longer interested in pursuing a relationship.

Investigators allege Harris continued contacting the man despite repeated requests to stop and later showed up uninvited at his Fairless Hills home.

On June 28, the homeowner called police after discovering signs that someone had been inside his residence, including an opened bottle of wine and food left out. He then allegedly spotted Harris outside trying to climb into the home through a rear window.

Responding officers say they detained Harris as she attempted to enter through the window.

She has been charged with burglary, criminal trespass, stalking, and other related offenses. Harris was released after posting 10% of a $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on July 21.

Ex Alpha-Beta Firm Employees Sues Company, Top Executives Over Alleged Harassment, Discrimination, Demands N500m Damages

Mr. Oluwasegun Oluwasanmi, a former employee of Alpha-Beta Consulting LLP, the tax consulting firm linked to President Bola Tinubu, has dragged the company and two of its senior officials before the National Industrial Court in Lagos State.

Oluwasanmi alleged years of workplace harassment, discrimination, humiliation and victimisation that he claims forced him to resign.

Oluwasanmi is seeking several declarations and monetary reliefs, including N500million in general damages for alleged unfair labour practices, constructive dismissal, breach of contract and consequential losses.

The suit, filed before the National Industrial Court, Lagos Judicial Division, on June 8, 2026, through his legal team led by Barrister Mobolaji Akintunde, named Alpha-Beta Consulting LLP, its Group Managing Director, Otunba Akinsanya Doherty, and the company's Human Resources Manager, Mrs. Anjolaoluwa Ige-Amusan, as defendants.

In his statement of facts, Oluwasanmi said he joined Alpha-Beta on September 3, 2018, as Manager, Risk Control.

He was redeployed on January 4, 2022, as Unit Head, Security and Risk Management, a role later redesignated as Head, Information Security.

He told the court that he remained in the position until what he described as his "forced resignation," which took effect in January 2025, although his resignation letter stated December 2024 as his exit date.

Oluwasanmi maintained that throughout his employment he discharged his duties diligently and was never sanctioned for misconduct.

Instead, he said he received certificates of honour, commendations and financial rewards from management for exposing fraud, strengthening internal controls, identifying operational irregularities and implementing anti-corruption measures.

Among his achievements, Oluwasanmi claimed he helped the company recover or prevent millions of naira in losses by identifying quarterly cloud service overpayments of about N6million, exposing alleged irregular payments involving software vendor Sage across Alpha-Beta subsidiaries, and raising concerns over a N19.39million payment to a vendor that allegedly failed to supply network switches months after receiving payment.

Oluwasanmi said his troubles began after he reported procurement irregularities and recommended sanctions against members of the finance department.

He claimed the Sage vendor was later blacklisted after allegedly refusing to refund money paid by the company and its subsidiaries.

Oluwasanmi alleged that some members of the finance team openly vowed that he "would not be forgiven" for implicating them in the audit findings.

He claimed the hostility escalated over the years into intimidation, discrimination, humiliation, and victimisation, leaving him depressed and at one point driving him to attempt suicide before he eventually resigned "to save his life."

Oluwasanmi also accused Alpha-Beta of discriminating against him in its healthcare scheme.

He alleged that although he held the same grade as other unit and department heads, he was placed on a lower-tier "Silver Plan" under the company's Health Maintenance Organisation, while his colleagues enjoyed the more comprehensive "Classic Plan."

According to him, the disparity became evident in February 2021 when he suffered severe stomach complications allegedly caused by poisoning.

He claimed that despite the Group Managing Director directing that he be treated at St. Nicholas Hospital at the company's expense, the Human Resources Manager insisted that he wait two more days to attend a hospital covered by his HMO plan.

He argued that the delay resulted from his placement on the lower health plan and that complaints he lodged over the alleged discrimination were ignored.

Oluwasanmi further noted that he was repeatedly humiliated through office allocations.

He told the court that after Alpha-Beta relocated its offices in 2022, he and his deputy were assigned a small office with furniture unsuitable for officers of their rank, while three offices on the same floor remained vacant for staff who had not resumed work or were yet to be employed.

He further alleged that after returning from an official trip to South Africa in 2023, his office had been reassigned to another employee, Mr. Wole Fajinmi, leaving him without a workspace for six days.

According to the suit, Oluwasanmi said he only got another office after reminding the Human Resources Manager through WhatsApp.

He also claimed that another employee, Mr. Charles Igbah, whom he described as his junior, was allocated one of the vacant offices while management continued to overlook his complaints.

Oluwasanmi told the court in the suit that the management again relocated him and his deputy in May 2024 from the seventh floor to the ninth floor, where he was assigned what he described as a cramped 10-foot-by-six-foot office previously used as a store, while his deputy received a larger, better-equipped office.

He noted that his office lacked adequate ventilation despite repeated complaints.

Beyond office allocation, Oluwasanmi accused Alpha-Beta of discriminating against him in staff welfare.

He alleged that in October 2024 his four-member unit received an imprest of N30,000, while units headed by his juniors, including one with only a single employee, received N50,000 each.

Oluwasanmi further claimed that the Human Resources Department omitted his name from the company's September 2023 birthday celebrants' email, contrary to company policy providing birthday recognition and a N25,000 allowance.

Although the omission was later acknowledged, he alleged the allowance was only paid in November 2023 after repeated reminders.

Oluwasanmi also alleged that Alpha-Beta refused to reimburse him $170 for renewing his Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) professional subscription despite reimbursing other employees for similar expenses.

He further accused the company of discrimination in promotions, grading, and salary reviews.

According to him, he joined Alpha-Beta in 2018 on Grade 4, Level 2, Step 2, higher than his colleagues, including Mrs. Jumoke Ajala, Mr. Okechukwu Okoro, and Mrs. Ige-Amusan, who were then on lower grade levels.

However, Oluwasanmi alleged that after the company's grading system was restructured in November 2023, those colleagues were elevated to higher Grade Level 8 positions while he remained on Grade Level 7, Step 2 as a Senior Manager without any explanation despite his experience and performance.

He also claimed that the November 2023 salary review was discriminatory, noting that he received a monthly net salary increase of about N206,000, while his deputy, whom he described as occupying a lower grade, received an increase of about N269,000.

Oluwasanmi argued that the disparity could not have been based on performance because he was excluded from the appraisal process before the salary review was implemented.

He said that the management later invited him to a performance review meeting on December 28, 2023, weeks after the salary increase had already taken effect.

Oluwasanmi questioned how his salary adjustment could have been determined by an appraisal that had not yet been conducted.

He added that the appraisal covered 2021, 2022 and part of 2023, the same period during which management had recognised him with certificates, commendations and financial rewards for strengthening internal controls and exposing irregularities.

Oluwasanmi further alleged that Alpha-Beta unlawfully withheld his salaries between April and August 2023, amounting to N8,759,396.04, deducted N1,889,365.28 from his salary as employer pension contributions in alleged violation of the Pension Reform Act 2014, and failed to pay N340,643.18 representing salary earned between January 1 and January 7, 2025, before he was allegedly shut out of the workplace.

He is asking the court to declare that the defendants' actions amounted to constructive dismissal and unfair labour practice, compel payment of the withheld salaries and pension deductions, order reimbursement of his $170 professional subscription fee, award him his monthly salary and benefits from January 2025 until judgment, and grant N500million in general damages.

He is also seeking N2million as the cost of the suit, pre-judgment interest of 10 per cent per annum, and post-judgment interest of 21 per cent until the judgment sum is fully paid.

ICPC Arraigns ex-minister Uche Nnaji, Granted N20m Bail

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission on Monday arraigned a former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, before the Federal High Court in Abuja, on a six-count charge bordering on alleged certificate forgery, false information and corruption.

Nnaji, 63, was arraigned before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, where he pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

According to the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/391/2026, the ICPC alleged that between August 2023 and October 2025, while serving as minister, Nnaji received ₦29,578,466.67 through his Fidelity Bank account as salary and allowances, which the commission described as “proceeds of unlawful acts, contrary to the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.”

In the second count, the anti-graft agency accused the former minister of using his office to confer a corrupt advantage on himself by receiving the same sum as salary and allowances, contrary to the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

The remaining four counts relate to alleged certificate forgery and the making and use of false documents.

Specifically, the ICPC alleged that Nnaji knowingly presented a forged National Youth Service Corps certificate, numbered A231309, to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation during the documentation process for his ministerial appointment.

The commission further alleged that he submitted a purported University of Nigeria, Nsukka degree certificate in Microbiology/Biochemistry, bearing Certificate No. 004501, knowing it to be false.

The prosecution also accused him of making and using both the NYSC certificate and the UNN degree certificate as genuine despite allegedly knowing they were forged, contrary to Sections 363 and 364 of the Penal Code.

Shortly after the charges were read and the defendant entered his plea, his counsel, Chief Ogwu Onoja (SAN), informed the court that he had filed a motion seeking his client’s bail.

Counsel for the ICPC, Osuobeni Akponimisingha, told the court that the prosecution was prepared to proceed with the trial and had three witnesses lined up to testify.

He, however, raised no objection to the bail application, leaving the decision to the discretion of the court.

In a ruling, Justice Abdulmalik admitted the former minister to bail in the sum of ₦20 million, with one surety in like sum.

The judge held that the surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 15, who must have maintained a fixed place of residence for at least four years.

The court further directed that the surety should produce evidence of employment, including a letter of appointment and salary slips for the last three months.

It also ordered that the appropriate government authority be notified to verify the surety’s employment status.

Justice Abdulmalik also ordered Nnaji to deposit his international passport and every other travel document in his possession with the court.

The matter was subsequently adjourned until September 21, 2026, for the commencement of trial.

The PUNCH reports that Nnaji arrived at the court ahead of the proceedings, dressed in a white outfit and a red cap. He acknowledged supporters in the courtroom before taking his seat.

Meanwhile, a civil society organisation, Global Gender Safety and Moral Development, staged a protest at the Federal High Court, calling for accountability, and urged the authorities to ensure that the case is prosecuted in accordance with the rule of law.

Addressing journalists, the group’s Convener, Shuaibu Abdulkadir, said public office demands honesty, accountability and respect for the rule of law.

He said, “Where criminal liability has been established through due process, the full weight of the law should be applied to protect the integrity of our educational institutions, including the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the National Youth Service Corps.

“We urge the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, including the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, to continue discharging their constitutional responsibilities without fear or favour. Justice must prevail.”

The charges followed months of investigation into allegations that the former minister forged academic credentials and made false declarations in connection with documents allegedly submitted during his nomination and screening for ministerial appointment.

The ICPC had earlier secured a remand order against Nnaji, after informing the court that he repeatedly failed to honour invitations extended to him in the course of its investigation. He subsequently challenged the order authorising his arrest.

The former minister has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld a Federal High Court judgment restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising or participating in any state congresses organised by the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a split judgment of two justices to one, the appellate court on Monday affirmed the ruling earlier delivered by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik on April 29, 2026.

Justice Abdulmalik had ruled that the four-year tenure of the ADC’s state working committees and state executive committees remains valid and subsisting until properly constituted state congresses are conducted and a national convention is held.

The judge also held that neither the 1999 Constitution nor the ADC Constitution gives the caretaker/interim National Working Committee led by former Senate President David Mark the power to appoint committees to conduct state congresses.

According to the judgment, the responsibility for conducting state congresses rests with the party’s state executive committees, not the national executive committee or the caretaker leadership.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/581/2026, was filed by aggrieved ADC members, including Don Norman Obinna, Johnny Tovie Derek, Obah Ehigiator, Olona Yinka, Charles Omideji, Samuel Pam Gyang, and Obianyo Patrick, who sued on behalf of all ADC state chairmen and state executive committees.

The plaintiffs argued that the caretaker leadership lacked the constitutional authority to organise state congresses or appoint committees to oversee the exercise. The Court of Appeal’s decision effectively upholds the earlier order barring INEC from recognising any such congresses conducted by the Mark-led leadership.

The deceased and Miss Anita Baski are said to be employees of David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUS), Uburu and had been on secondment to the Federal Ministry of Works, Abuja, as physiotherapists for the past three years until the death of Habila.

A media outlet had alleged that the woman died in the Minister’s House in Uburu.

Umahi, in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Francis Nwaze, said he received the news with profound shock and sadness and has since extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

He explained that immediately the incident occurred, appropriate emergency steps were taken with Medical personnel including the Chief Medical Director of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, contacted without delay, while police was promptly notified in accordance with the law.

He noted that he remains convinced that autopsy remains the most credible and responsible path to resolving all questions surrounding the woman’s death.

Umahi urged the public to exercise restraint, refrain from speculation or premature conclusions, and allow the relevant authorities to carry out their responsibilities without interference.

Father Mourns 28-yr-old Army lieutenant Killed In Oyo Rescue Operation

Mr Isaac Alabura, father of Lt. Felix Ademe Isaac, the 28-year-old Nigerian Army officer who died during an operation to rescue abducted teachers and pupils in Oyo State, said his family is yet to recover from the painful loss.

The young officer was killed while leading troops during the rescue operation that secured the victims’ freedom on July 10, 2026.

It had been reported that gunmen abducted teachers and pupils from three schools—Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and LA Primary School—in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15, 2026, before taking them into the forest.

There are conflicting accounts of how the officer died.

While some reports said his convoy struck explosives planted by terrorists in the National Park area of Oyo State, others claimed he stepped on a landmine allegedly planted by Ansaru fighters, who were identified as the group behind the abduction.

Born on August 25, 1997, Lt. Isaac was buried with full military honours at the 23rd Armoured Brigade Cemetery in Yola, Adamawa State, on July 10, 2026.

Speaking at his residence in Bachure Quarters, Yola, on Sunday, his father, a retired Master Warrant Officer, said the family remained devastated by the tragedy.

Describing his late son as “the hope of the family and the community,” Alabura said they had looked forward to seeing him rise through the military ranks before his life was cut short.

“It is natural to feel pain whenever you lose someone, even if it is an enemy. How much more brilliant, young officer whom our family and community looked up to? His life was cut short at a time we expected him to achieve greater things,” he said.

It was observed that sympathisers continued to visit the family’s home to commiserate with them.

Alabura also expressed disappointment over how news of his son’s death reached the family, saying neither the military authorities nor the Oyo State Government had officially briefed them on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He, however, commended four serving and retired senior military officers who, according to him, ensured that his son’s body was released and brought to Yola for burial despite attempts by some persons to have him buried in Oyo State.

“His death is deeply painful. He had just returned from training at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Jaji, Kaduna, and was preparing to report to Sokoto for another assignment. Around 3:00 p.m., he was instead directed to lead the rescue operation in Oyo,” he said.

He appealed to the military authorities and the Oyo State Government to support the family, noting that the late officer paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.

Also speaking, the deceased’s cousin, Tidwawa Nelson Eweh, described Lt. Isaac as calm, intelligent and hardworking.

He said the officer had lived an exemplary life and was committed to serving Nigeria.

“When he decided to join the Nigerian Army, we all believed he would rise through the ranks and contribute to improving the country’s security. Sadly, that dream has been cut short.

“We have lost a beloved family member, and Nigeria has also lost a promising officer who still had so much to offer,” he said.

Eweh urged the military authorities and the Oyo State Government to remember the officer’s family, noting that he is survived by his retired military father, his mother, a brother and a sister.

He also called for the late officer to be immortalised in recognition of the sacrifice he made in the line of duty.

Lt. Felix Ademe Isaac hailed from Kola ward in Guyuk Local Government Area of Adamawa State, the hometown of the late Senator Dr Silas Zwingina and the late Air Vice Marshal Dan Suleiman.

Felix Ademe Isaac was not the only one who died in the rescue operation that eventually yielded results.

The Nigerian Army briefly made reference to this in a statement issued after the victims regained freedom.

“It suffices to note that the operations were carefully planned and executed to avoid collateral damage and to equally ensure that the innocent children and teachers were safely rescued. However, there were some casualties on the part of the security forces,” the statement read.

On his part, Governor Seyi Makinde said, “Really grateful for the safe return of the children and teachers abducted from Oriire LGA 56 days ago. Our priority now is to ensure they are reunited with their families and support their rehabilitation after this traumatic experience.

“We also commend the security agencies that took part in the rescue operations for their sacrifices. May the souls of those who paid the ultimate price rest in peace, and may God comfort their families.”

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have foiled an attempted ISWAP attack on their position in Cross Kauwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing several terrorists and recovering a camcorder containing operational footage and propaganda materials.

According to the military, the attack occurred at about 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, when ISWAP fighters attempted to infiltrate the troops' location under the cover of darkness.

Soldiers of 19 Brigade, Sector 3 responded with coordinated firepower, forcing the terrorists to retreat after suffering heavy casualties.

The military said the attackers were also attempting to loot cholera medical supplies, which it said supports intelligence reports of a cholera outbreak within terrorist camps.

During the operation, troops recovered a Sony camcorder, ammunition, terrorist uniforms and other combat items. The military said preliminary forensic analysis of the footage indicated that the failed attack was coordinated by four senior ISWAP commanders and three suspected foreign terrorist facilitators, including individuals identified as Abu Ishaq, a Palestinian; Abu Thaiba, a Moroccan; and another unidentified Arab operative. The military said the findings suggest ISWAP continues to receive foreign support, while investigations are ongoing.

The Army added that satellite imagery and human intelligence indicated the terrorists evacuated the bodies of several of their fighters after the failed assault, while many others sustained gunshot wounds.

Two Nigerian soldiers were injured during the firefight and were airlifted for medical treatment. The military said both personnel are in stable condition.

Operation HADIN KAI said the successful operation dealt another major blow to ISWAP's fighting capability and reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations until terrorism is defeated across the North-East.

Lagos High Court Sentences Justice Odey To Death For Killing A Man During Fight Over A Lady

A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja sentenced Justice Odey to death by hanging for the brutal killing of 35-year-old Benedict Agara during a violent confrontation over a woman identified as Amina.

Delivering judgment in Suit No. LD/17040C/2021, Justice Modupe Nicol-Clay ruled that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that Odey was responsible for Agara’s death after a fierce altercation on April 3, 2021, at Block 33, Flat 102, Jakande Housing Estate, Lagos.

The court heard that the deadly clash escalated when Odey allegedly attacked Agara with a broken bottle, inflicting multiple injuries to his hand, stomach and other parts of his body. Agara was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Despite the absence of an eyewitness to the fatal stabbing, Justice Nicol-Clay held that compelling circumstantial evidence pointed squarely at Odey as the only person who fought with and injured the deceased on the day of the incident.

In a significant aspect of the ruling, the judge dismissed claims that the investigating police officer’s testimony amounted to hearsay, declaring that an investigating officer’s account of a crime scene investigation is admissible evidence capable of grounding a conviction.

The court also ruled that although medical evidence is desirable in murder cases, it is not indispensable where the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death are clearly established by credible evidence.

However, the judge rejected the prosecution’s alleged confessional statement, declaring it legally worthless because it was not obtained in compliance with the law, having neither been video-recorded nor taken in the presence of a lawyer.

After weighing all the evidence, the court concluded that the prosecution had established every ingredient of the offence of murder beyond reasonable doubt. Justice Odey was consequently convicted and sentenced to death by hanging for the killing that sprang from a love-fuelled confrontation that ended in bloodshed.

Nigerian Teenager Bags Life Imprisonment In UK For Murder

United Kingdom-based Nigerian teenager, Emmanuel Popoola, and his accomplice, Tayvon Etefia, have been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 28 years each for the murder of 18-year-old Keanu Harker.

It was reported that Harker was shot dead by Popoola in Enfield following a dispute over comments made in a Snapchat group chat.

The London Metropolitan Police had stated that Popoola and Etefia tracked Harker on an electric bike before carrying out a drive-by shooting on June 26, 2025.

According to the police, the attack was triggered after Popoola became enraged by comments in a Snapchat group chat mocking him for allegedly not having mobile data.

In an update obtained from the Metropolitan Police website on Sunday, authorities stated that the pair were jailed for life at the Old Bailey after they were convicted of murder on July 6, following a six-week trial.

The statement added, “At the same court on Friday, 10 July, they were both detained for life and ordered to serve a minimum tariff of 28 years.

“On Monday, 6 July, Eliezer Mbaki, 25, Anais King, 19, and a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were convicted of perverting the course of justice.

“Mbaki was sentenced to four years and nine months at the Old Bailey on Friday, 10 July.”

The statement quoted the victim’s family as saying that although the convictions had brought a measure of justice, no prison sentence could make up for the loss of their son.

“Our son had just turned 18 when these individuals decided to take his life.

We are grateful that some measure of justice has been served, but no amount of time they spend in prison will ever be enough for us. We have been left with a lifetime of pain and loss that can never be undone,” the family said.

The family added that they hoped the case would expose the devastating consequences of gang violence.

“We hope this case opens people’s eyes to how damaging gang culture has become for young people. Too many children are losing their lives, and too many families are being left to suffer unimaginable heartbreak.

“Something must change before more young lives are taken, and more parents are forced to endure the pain that we now live with every day,” the statement quoted.

Commenting on the outcome of the case, the Metropolitan Police quoted the lead investigator, Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, as describing the murder as another reminder of the dangers of serious youth violence.

“This is a tragic case that yet again demonstrates why our commitment to tackling serious violence is so important,” Card said.

According to her, the investigation established that Harker was murdered because his killers took offence at comments exchanged in a social media group chat.

“Our painstaking investigation established that Keanu was murdered because his killers took offence to something that was said in a social media group chat.

“Rather than ignore the comments, Emmanuel Popoola armed himself with a pistol and, with the help of Tayvon Etefia, carried out a drive-by shooting. This was cowardly and disproportionate violence that has understandably shocked the community.

“We spent months building a comprehensive case against the killers and those who tried to help them, and I am pleased to have been able to secure justice for Keanu’s family,” she said.

The Metropolitan Police had earlier disclosed that Popoola fled to France after the shooting, while Etefia was arrested aboard a train at London’s St Pancras International Station just two minutes before it departed for Paris.

Popoola was subsequently arrested in Paris in a joint operation by British and French law enforcement authorities before being extradited to the United Kingdom to face trial.

The Federal Government approved the new examination fee of N50,000 for candidates sitting the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE), with the new rate taking effect from 2027.

The approval was contained in a June 18 statement signed by Adeniji Ibrahim, Director of Senior Secondary Education at the Federal Ministry of Education.

It followed a request by WAEC for an upward review of the SSCE registration fee.

According to Ibrahim, the decision was reached after a March 31, 2026 meeting between the Minister of Education and examination bodies, where the need to review examination fees was discussed.

He said the minister also directed both WAEC and NECO to adopt a uniform examination fee.

The increment has drawn criticism from students and opposition figures.

Armed Bandits Kidnap Man In Oyo State Demand ₦30m Ransom

A 60-year-old man, Mr. Owoade Matthew Kolawole, has been abducted by Armed Bandits in Igboyaye, Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The abduction occurred between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

According to the victim’s family, the kidnappers contacted them shortly after the incident using Mr. Kolawole’s mobile phones and demanded a ransom of ₦30 million for his release.

Speaking on the incident, the victim’s son, Mr. Owoade Abiola, said security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Amotekun Corps, and local vigilante groups, were immediately alerted.

A joint search operation was launched and continued throughout the night, but the victim was not found.

However, at about 8:20 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, the search team recovered Mr. Kolawole’s abandoned motorcycle in a nearby bush, raising further concerns about his whereabouts.

The family has appealed to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the victim’s safe release and ensure those responsible for the abduction are apprehended and brought to justice.

As of the time of filing this report, Mr. Owoade Matthew Kolawole remains in captivity.

Anambra State Govt Arrests 47-Year-Old Woman For Illegal Surgeries, Confiscates Facility

Anambra State Government has intensified its campaign against quackery in the health sector with the arrest of a 47-year-old woman, Mrs. Onyinyechi Esther Charles, who is to be arraigned over allegations of carrying out surgical procedures without the required medical and surgical qualifications.

Mrs. Charles, an indigene of Abia State who is married to a man from Nteje, Oyi Local Goverment Area allegedly operated a traditional birth attendant (TBA) facility in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area, where she is accused of performing caesarean sections, conducting normal vaginal deliveries and carrying out other surgical procedures, even as he facility has also been linked to reported cases of medical complications and fatalities.

According to the Anambra State Ministry of Health, the arrest followed investigations initiated by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, as part of the state's ongoing efforts to eliminate illegal medical practice and protect the lives of residents, and during interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted to performing caesarean sections, normal deliveries and other surgical procedures without the required qualifications or authorisation, and revealed that she was previously known as Eze Nwanyi before becoming a church minister, and now a surgeon.

During an inspection of the facility, the Commissioner accompanied by the Mayor of Anambra East Local Government Area, Mr. Ifeanyi Chinweze, and security personnel, reportedly recovered surgical instruments and other medical equipment believed to have been used in the alleged unauthorised procedures.

Hospital beds where patients were reportedly treated were also found within the premises, while officials further discovered what appeared to be a shrine and an altar inside the facility, as the has been confiscated pending the outcome of legal proceedings, while the suspect will be arraigned before a competent court.

Speaking during the inspection, Dr. Obidike described the discovery as disturbing and serious threat to public health, adding that the Governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration would not allow unqualified individuals to endanger the lives of residents under the guise of providing healthcare, and warned members of the public against seeking medical care from unlicensed facilities or unqualified persons, urging expectant mothers and other patients to patronise only government approved hospitals and duly registered healthcare providers, saying that the Ministry of Health would sustain its surveillance and enforcement operations across the state to identify and prosecute illegal medical practitioners.

He stressed that the government remains committed to sanitising the health sector and ensuring that only licensed and qualified healthcare professionals provide medical and surgical services in Anambra and that anyone found violating the law would face the full weight of legal sanctions.

Also speaking, the Mayor of the council Area, Mr. Chinweze, commended the Ministry of Health and security agencies for exposing the alleged illegal medical operation, and assured residents that the local government would continue to support efforts aimed at eliminating quackery and other unlawful practices that endanger lives, urging members of the public to promptly report suspected illegal health facilities and patronise only accredited hospitals and qualified healthcare professionals.

THE PERFORMANCE DEBATE OBI DECLINED, KNOWING HE COULD NOT

In politics, narratives may shape public opinion, but history is ultimately written by records of service. Campaign slogans change but tangible achievements endure.

That was the foundation of the public invitation issued by the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, to former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi: a debate centered not on personalities, party affiliations or political rhetoric, but on governance, leadership and results.

Many Nigerians expected what could have been one of the most consequential conversations on public service in recent times. Instead, Mr. Obi declined the invitation, explaining that he is currently a presidential candidate while Senator Umahi is not.

Yet the challenge was never about electoral status. It was about accountability. It was about inviting two former governors to present their records before Nigerians and allow the public to judge whose leadership produced the greater impact.

If governance is measured by performance, political ambition should not prevent an honest comparison of records.

Senator Umahi's invitation was straightforward: place the evidence on the table and let Nigerians decide.

Mr. Peter Obi’s comparison of his political profile with that of Senator David Umahi is like comparing a single chapter to an entire book. Few contemporary public servants have accumulated the breadth and depth of public service experience that Senator Umahi has. Before entering public office, Umahi built a successful career in the private sector as an accomplished businessman. He has since served as the State Chairman of a ruling political party, Deputy Governor, Governor, Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum, Co-Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and now Honourable Minister of Works where he oversees one of the most ambitious federal road infrastructure programmes in Nigeria’s history, supervising transformative projects across the country.

By contrast, Peter Obi’s highest elective public office and entire experience has been Governor of Anambra State. Beyond that, he has not held any other executive or legislative public office. Not party Chairman, not Minister, and never a Senator.

At every stage, Umahi’s leadership was tested through elections, public scrutiny and increasing national responsibility.

As Governor of Ebonyi State, Senator Umahi presided over an unprecedented transformation of the state's physical infrastructure. His administration delivered extensive concrete road networks, multiple flyovers, bridges, urban renewal projects and public institutions that remain visible across the state today.

Among the landmark projects are the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, and David Umahi Federal Teaching Hospital, Uburu, the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, the Ecumenical Centre, the Ebonyi Shopping Mall, the New Government House, the Poverlisation Plant, the New Governor's Lodge, the State Executive Council Chambers, the State Judiciary Complex, 23 flyovers across the state, the Margaret Umahi International Market, the revitalised Fertilizer Blending Plant, modern hospitals, schools, water schemes and extensive drainage infrastructure.

These are projects that can be seen, visited and independently assessed.

Today, as Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Umahi is leading the implementation of some of Nigeria's most significant infrastructure projects under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, the Calabar-Abuja Super Highway and the reconstruction and rehabilitation of strategic federal highways across the federation.

These are not campaign promises. They are ongoing projects visible to every Nigerian.

Mr. Obi has consistently highlighted the savings accumulated during his tenure as Governor of Anambra State as his greatest achievement. Fiscal responsibility is undoubtedly an important aspect of good governance. Equally, however, Nigerians are entitled to examine the physical, institutional and developmental legacies left by every administration and compare them on their merits. Keeping money in the bank while leaving contractors unpaid and failing to complete meaningful, life-impacting projects cannot, by itself, be regarded as an achievement. Ultimately, leadership is measured by the tangible improvements it delivers to the lives of the people.

For nearly all of his eight-year tenure, Peter Obi governed Anambra State without democratically elected local government chairmen, relying instead on caretaker committees. It was only in January 2014, a few months before leaving office, that he conducted local government elections and inaugurated elected council chairmen.

That was the essence of Senator Umahi's proposal.

The debate would not have been about personalities or political parties. It would have focused on verifiable outcomes: roads, bridges, hospitals, schools, public institutions, urban renewal, economic development and the lasting impact of governance.

One cannot credibly aspire to lead a nation as complex and demanding as Nigeria without a demonstrable record of performance as a governor. Likewise, it is difficult to convince Nigerians that you are prepared to challenge an administration led by a focused and determined President like His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR when you are not even a match and cannot stand a debate with one of the key leaders of that administration on the basis of verifiable performance and achievements.

Nigerians deserve the opportunity to evaluate records.

Senator Umahi has stated that he remains ready to participate in such a debate on any credible platform, convinced that leadership is ultimately measured by the enduring value created for the people.
