NDC Accuses INEC Of Replacing It's Candidates With Unknown Names

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of removing some of its nominated candidates from the 2027 election list and replacing them with names the party says it did not submit.

NDC National Chairman Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe made the allegation after INEC published its list of candidates for the State Houses of Assembly elections.

He said the issue was particularly evident in Anambra State, where the party alleged that 10 names were published as its candidates despite not emerging from its nomination process. The party also said it had observed similar concerns in Benue and Imo states.

Zuwoghe alleged that INEC officials collected Form EC-9 directly from some of the disputed candidates and uploaded the forms without going through the party.

The NDC chairman called for an immediate investigation and said the party would seek legal redress to restore what it described as its authentic candidates.

5. LAGOS STATE (29th August, 2026): ARREST OF THREE SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS / RECOVERY OF THREE FIREARMS AND EIGHT ROUNDS OF LIVE AMMUNITION

✅ Acting on credible intelligence, Police tactical operatives tracked and arrested three suspected members of an armed robbery and carjacking syndicate.

✅ Two locally made pistols loaded with five cartridges and one locally made revolver pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition were recovered.

✅ Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.

6. KATSINA STATE (30th August, 2026): FOILED CATTLE RUSTLING / RECOVERY OF FIVE RUSTLED COWS / ENGAGEMENT OF BANDITS

✅ Police tactical personnel engaged suspected cattle rustlers in a gun duel following an attack on cattle rearers at Tafoki Village.

✅ The bandits were overpowered and all five rustled cows were successfully recovered.

✅ Police rescued injured victims and conveyed them to Funtua General Hospital for treatment.

7. TARABA STATE (30th August, 2026): KIDNAPPING / RESCUE OF TWO VICTIMS / RECOVERY OF ABANDONED VEHICLE

✅ Police personnel of 67 PMF Takum and Highway Patrol, alongside the DPO-led team, conducted an extensive search following a reported kidnapping incident.

✅ Alidoo Cecilia Ityo, 55 years, and her little granddaughter were successfully rescued after being abandoned by the kidnappers.

✅ A red Toyota Corolla car, registration number JMT-680-XA, abandoned by the kidnappers, was recovered.

8. OYO STATE (27th August, 2026): ARREST OF FOUR SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS / RECOVERY OF FOUR EXPENDED CARTRIDGES

✅ Following the abduction of nine-year-old Shittu Ridwan, combined security teams combed the surrounding bushes and arrested four suspects, including Amadu Soliu, 21 years.

9. OGUN STATE (30th August, 2026): ARREST OF SUSPECT IN CULPABLE HOMICIDE

✅ Following the fatal attack on Adeyemi Adegoke at Arigbajo, detectives deployed to the scene and commenced investigation.

✅ One suspect, Biola Adeokola, was arrested in connection with the crime.

Two Female Human Traffickers Pose As Tenants To Abduct Three Children In Taraba

The Taraba Police Command has arrested two women for allegedly abducting three children in Jalingo and attempting to traffic them to Adamawa.

It was gathered that the suspects, who are from one of the states in the South-East, were arrested at a filling station while travelling in a commercial vehicle with the three girls.

The women were reportedly taking the girls to Adamawa State when the driver of the vehicle became suspicious because the girls do not look like them.

The driver subsequently alerted members of his union, who then informed the police, leading to the arrest of the two women.

It was gathered that the suspects, both of whom are single, had rented a room in a house where the parents of the three girls reside about two weeks ago.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday morning when the women allegedly deceived the mothers of the girls by asking them to allow the children to accompany them to the market.

Instead of taking the girls to the market, the women reportedly took them to a motor park in Jalingo, where they chartered a vehicle to transport them and the children to Adamawa State.

At the police station, the women allegedly admitted that they took the girls away from the compound where they had rented a room after deceiving their mothers.

The girls, identified as Ummul Shuaibu, Ummul Baba Gasal and Amina Abubakar, are aged between five and six.

Abubakar Kwalli, the father of one of the girls, told Daily Trust that he and the fathers of the other two girls were invited to the Taraba State Police Command headquarters.

“We were surprised to see our children at the police headquarters. We were asked to identify them, which we did, but we were directed to bring our wives to further identify the children before they would be released to us,” he said.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has raised concerns over recurring xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks against Africans and other foreign nationals in South Africa at an African Union session.

Speaking at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union, Shettima presented Nigeria’s position on the issue on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He warned that the attacks threaten African solidarity, unity and peaceful coexistence, and called for collective action by African leaders to address the problem.

Shettima also expressed Nigeria’s support for the adoption of the Luanda Action Plan as a practical framework for strengthening conflict prevention across the continent.

The Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Sir Chidi Lloyd, PhD, on Saturday visited the Rivers-East Senatorial Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon Princewill Obodo and his family, following the unfortunate death of his son, Anthony Obodo, who was recently shot dead along the AGIP-Rumueme axis of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, by a trigger-happy police officer attached to the Rumueme/AGIP Estate Police Station.

Sir Chidi Lloyd during the visit to the bereaved family at their AGIP Estate residence in Portharcourt , condemned the killing of the unarmed young man by a supposed law enforcement officer, whose duty it is to protect the lives and property of citizens, describing the unfortunate development as a tragic incident and a big loss to the family and the people of Rundele ( ward 7), Emohua Local Government Area.

The Emohua Council Boss, while expressing his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family, affirmed confidence in the leadership of the Rivers State Police Command in unraveling the incident that led to the death of the young man, in line with established laws and the code of conduct guiding the operations of the Police Force.

According to the father of the deceased, Princewill Obodo, his son, Anthony Obodo, aged 22years , was until his death a young graduate awaiting his call-up letter from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

He narrated how his late son was driving alone along the AGIP Road in Rumueme, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area when a team of police officers attached to the AGIP Estate Police Station chased the vehicle to the point where one of the police officers shot directly at him after deflecting the vehicle tyre with gun shot, causing the vehicle to sleep-off the road to hit pedestrians along the ever-busy AGIP section of the Ada-George Road .

The visibly heartbroken Princewill Obodo, said his late son was never a crime suspect, and questioned the reason why he was shot dead like a convicted criminal by a team of law enforcement officer attached to the same police division covering his family’s place of residence.

He called for thorough investigation into what he described as the extrajudicial killing of his son, to bring the killers to face the full wrath of the law.

Princewill Obodo thanked the Emohua Local Government Chairman for identifying with his family in their moment of grief, describing the visit as a show of solidarity and sympathy towards the bereaved family.

Gunmen Run Riot In Anambra State, Scores Injured

It was a terrible situation on Sunday, the 30th of August, when unknown gunmen stormed an area of Awka, Anambra State, popularly known as Amaenyi and opened gunfire on unsuspecting members of the public.

The gunmen were said to be in a Corolla car when they stormed the area, opened fire in the densely populated neighborhood, mostly populated by indigenes of 'Aymom na Okpala' community, as those who were mostly in Beer Parlours, a betting shop and article shops around and close to the place of gunfire, started running for safety, causing pandemonium, as some persons were said to have sustained gunshot wounds and injuries, during the period of gunfire.

The unknown gunmen afterwards, drove towards another part of the Amaenyi area, close to St. Peter's Catholic Church, Nkwelle Awka and started shooting indiscriminately again, a man was shot dead at the scene with a headshot, opening his brain and spilling the brain to the floor, with another person, sustaining a gunshot injury.

The reasons for the shooting and storming of the area by the unknown gunmen has not been ascertained but Awka has been reportedly plagued with unending cult war and clashes over the years unabated but the town has enjoyed relative peace for about a year now before the shooting today.

Night life has been completely destroyed in that part of Awka city, as residents constantly live in fear yet even with the town hosting key government agencies and parastatals, the insecurity in Awka and environs seems not to abate.

Popular Awka-born master of ceremonies, comedian and griot, Aiza Nwosu, was reportedly shot dead on Sunday, 30th August 2026, in Awka, Anambra State.

Unconfirmed reports circulating online allege that his killing may be connected to a lingering land-related dispute. This remains unverified, however, and it is now left for the relevant security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.

The tragic news has shocked many, particularly within Awka and the entertainment community. It also raises renewed concerns about violent killings in Awka and the urgent need to address insecurity in the area.

Aiza had been active in the entertainment industry for many years and was a friend and colleague to many. He was also known for mentoring younger entertainers and contributing to the growth of the local entertainment scene.

Since news of his death emerged, social media platforms have been flooded with messages of shock, grief and tributes from friends, colleagues, associates and admirers.

Gunmen Demand N20m Each For 15 Abducted Corps Members

Gunmen who abducted members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have demanded N20m ransom each.

CKN News reported that the 15 corps members travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing their three-week orientation exercise were abducted along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

A family member of one of the victims told Daily Trust that the abductors had contacted them to make known their ransom demand.

“One of our daughters who was kidnapped on her way from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing three weeks orientation camp. The kidnappers are requesting N20 million naira,” the family source said.

The development comes after the Kogi State Police Command confirmed the abduction of some passengers, including NYSC members, along the route.

The command had said 11 abducted persons, including the drivers of the two vehicles involved, were rescued following a joint operation by security personnel, while efforts were ongoing to locate and rescue those still in captivity.

Families of some of the victims have since appealed to the Federal Government, the NYSC and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of those still being.

Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, said the Commission remains committed to leveraging innovation to address digital exclusion and ensure that all Nigerians, particularly persons with disabilities and underserved communities, can participate meaningfully in the digital economy.

The founder and President of the Nigeria Pitch Awards, Shina Philips, has expressed gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, for initiating the long-awaited reforms in the country’s football governing body.

In a press release in Abuja on Saturday, Philips threw his weight behind the president’s reforms, stating that the reforms would highlight the challenges facing Nigerian football and identify salient areas where presidential intervention was needed.

“The reforms initiated by the President and the National Sports Commission will highlight the challenges facing our football and draw the much-needed intervention or support from the presidency,” Philips stated.

Philips further noted that the reforms were a bold attempt to confront any perceived decline in our football and that it would leave our football revived, vibrant, and robust. He also stated that, because of the strategic importance of football in the international community and the large following it commands among Nigerians, the Government would certainly not neglect it.

“Football has a large following in the country, and during football matches involving our national teams, Nigerians become united, abandoning their differences to celebrate the national teams,” he noted.

The Nigeria Police Force, through operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS), has arrested three key members of a notorious armed robbery and car-snatching syndicate operating across Kaduna State and the Federal Capital Territory.

Acting on actionable intelligence, operatives of the STS, between 14th and 19th August 2026, conducted coordinated operations across Kaduna State and Abuja, leading to the arrest of Ahmed Saidu, a.k.a. Diamond ‘M’, Alex Gabriel, a.k.a. Junior ‘M’, and Ahmed Mahudu, a.k.a. Diamond ‘M’, in connection with a series of armed robbery incidents involving the snatching of vehicles at gunpoint.

During the operations, operatives recovered one (1) red Toyota Corolla and one (1) army-colour Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle.

Soldiers Recover Two AK-47 Rifles After Foiling Arms Movement In Plateau

Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have foiled an attempt to move illicit arms through Zak Village in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.

During a stop-and-search operation on August 29, 2026, troops intercepted a green Volkswagen Golf and discovered a specially concealed compartment inside the dashboard.

The driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush but was pursued and apprehended. The Nigerian Army said the suspect attempted to disarm a soldier while being restrained, prompting troops to respond and neutralise him.

A search of the concealed compartment led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, one magazine, two wooden rifle butts, nine magazine pouches, two camel bags, six jungle hats, a mobile phone and an ATM card.

The Army said the operation was part of sustained efforts to disrupt illicit arms trafficking and prevent criminal elements from accessing weapons used to attack communities.

A bit of inexperience heavily undermined Moses Itauma in this vacant IBF heavyweight world title fight against Filip Hrgovic.

Going into the bout at just 21 years old with a 14 - 0 record, Itauma was attempting to become the 2nd youngest heavyweight champion in history. While his extraordinary talent was on full display early, dominating the first six rounds and dropping Hrgovic in the second round, his lack of experience ultimately led to his downfall.

He wore himself out throwing punches with maximum power too early. Instead of pacing himself for a 12 round fight, he threw every single punch with knockout intentions, exhausting himself. Hrgovic later noted that Itauma was "breathing hard" and "fighting like an amateur" from the first round.

Noteworthy is that Itauma had never gone past six rounds in his professional career and had reportedly never even sparred 12 rounds in camp.

When Hrgovic absorbed his best shots and dragged him into the later rounds, Itauma completely ran out of gas.

In the 8th round, rather than boxing intelligently to protect his massive lead on the scorecards, Itauma emptied his tank trying to force a stoppage.

By the 9th round, he was completely spent.

Instead of attempting to duck and clinch his way out of danger, he left himself exposed and defenseless against the ropes, prompting his trainer to throw in the towel.

Though it was a harsh experience that ended with him being stretchered out due to exhaustion and a leg injury, I believe the defeat will likely be a learning curve for the making of the young pugilist prodigy.

He's learnt the hard way. Expect a rematch and a reclamation of the title. Maximum respect to Itauma.

Former Nigerian Ambassador Debo Adesina Suffers Massive Stroke In Canada

Mrs Oluyemisi Debo-Adesina, the wife of former Nigerian Ambassador to Togo, His Excellency Adebowale (Debo) Adesina, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for urgent financial assistance to support his medical treatment in Canada.

The appeal was contained in a letter to the President titled ‘URGENT APPEAL FOR SUPPORT FOR H.E. ADEBOWALE (DEBO) ADESINA, FORMER NIGERIAN AMBASSADOR TO TOGO’.

It reads: “My husband, His Excellency Adebowale (Debo) Adesina, former Nigerian Ambassador to Togo and former Editor-in-Chief of one of Nigeria’s foremost newspapers, travelled to Canada on the 24th of June 2026 to visit our children and me.

Tragically, on the 9th of July 2026, he suffered a massive stroke and has remained hospitalized in Canada ever since.

He spent more than a month in the Intensive Care Unit, from the 9th of July to 11th of August 2026, at Trillium Hospital, Mississauga, before being transferred to Etobicoke General Hospital, where he remains under medical care to this day.

“By the grace of God, and following a prolonged period in an induced coma, Debo is gradually beginning to emerge from the coma. His condition, however, remains very serious, and he continues to require intensive medical attention, monitoring and care. We remain hopeful and prayerful for his full recovery.”

Sadly, she said, “this prolonged hospitalization has placed an enormous and rapidly increasing financial burden on our family. As of the 24th of August 2026, the outstanding medical bills had exceeded CAD $205,000, and the expenses continue to accumulate every day.

“The situation has become even more distressing as we have been informed that the hospital has raised concerns about the continuation of his care unless arrangements are made towards the outstanding medical expenses.

“It is against this deeply painful background that I am reaching out personally to you, Mr. President, because you know Debo in different capacities—as a journalist and Editor-in-Chief, a public intellectual, a diplomat, an aburo, and as someone with whom you have shared a relationship over the years.At this particularly vulnerable moment in his life, I am humbly appealing to you sir, to stand with him and with our family.”

She noted that any financial assistance, no matter the amount, would make a profound and meaningful difference in helping “us meet his mounting medical expenses and, most importantly, secure the continued medical care that he urgently needs. New court filings involving the FBI and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have reportedly revealed that an FBI search responsive to requests concerning President Bola Tinubu produced 399 pages of documents.

Machete Weilding Assailant Kill Two At Lagos Cinema

Two people have been confirmed dead following a violent attack at the car park of Filmhouse Cinemas IMAX in Lekki, Lagos, in the early hours of Saturday.

According to the Lagos State Police Command, a man armed with a machete allegedly attacked security personnel after he was stopped from entering the cinema. One security guard was reportedly stabbed to death, while another was injured.

The suspect was subsequently mobbed and died from injuries sustained during the incident, police said. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, while CCTV footage is being reviewed to establish what happened and determine whether others were involved.

Filmhouse Group expressed sadness over the incident and commended the security personnel for confronting the attacker. The company said it has increased security across its locations and is cooperating with the authorities investigating the incident.

IGP Disu Visits Niger State , Orders Immediate Rescue Of Abducted Worshippers

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has ordered intensified rescue operations following the abduction of worshippers and other residents in communities within the Dekara District of Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State.

Disu visited Niger State on Saturday to assess the security situation and strengthen coordination among security agencies. During his visit to the Government House in Minna, he conveyed the condolences of the Nigeria Police Force to the state government, affected communities and families of the victims.

President Tinubu Files Case In US Court To Block Release Of His Alleged Drug Trafficking Record

President Bola Tinubu has filed a challenge in a US court to prevent the U.S. Department of Justice, FBI and DEA from releasing records linked to allegations of drug trafficking.

The records are being sought by American transparency activist Aaron Greenspan, who filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against several US government agencies seeking documents relating to investigations involving Tinubu.

Greenspan’s requests include the FBI’s entire file on Tinubu and FBI Form 302 interview records concerning the period between 1992 and 1993.

The case also involves an alleged record connected to a 1993 civil forfeiture proceeding in the United States involving about $460,000 linked to Tinubu.

Tinubu has denied wrongdoing.

According to the 16-page court documents shared with Channels Television by his lawyer and legal team, Christopher W. Carmichael, Victor P. Henderson, and Oluwole O. Afolabi, on Saturday, Tinubu argued that the release of the records could infringe on his privacy.

“Submitted in that proceeding, did not reveal the details of a possible criminal investigation (or its results) involving Intervenor. Other than by speculation or labels, Plaintiff does not point to an existing public record that contains details of a governmental criminal investigation or findings about Intervenor. (DE 85-3, No. 16.)

“The purpose of Plaintiff’s motion is to obtain such information because it is not public. Moreover, Plaintiff’s argument that the limited disclosures in connection with the forfeiture negates all privacy interests is not consistent with precedent.

The Supreme Court explained that an individual retains a privacy interest in an entire file or document being produced, even where there are “scattered” disclosures of information from that same file. See Reporters Committee, 489 U.S. at 764-67 (“our cases have recognized the privacy interests inherent in the non-disclosure of certain information even where the information may have been public at one time.”).

“While some information may appear in portions of public records, an individual still retains a privacy interest in the details that remain undisclosed. Applying Reporter’s Committee, this Court explained that an individual retains a privacy interest even if they were previously publicly associated with criminal activity. Judicial Watch, Inc. v. United States Dept. of Justice, 898 F.Supp.2d 93, 104-05 (D.D.C. 2012).

“Other decisions have likewise described the fact someone was under investigation as “distinct” from the contents of the investigative files. See Electronic Privacy Info. Center v. United States Dept. of Justice, 18 F.4d 712, 719 (D.C. Cir. 2021) (“Although the names of – 6 – Case 1:23-cv-01816-BAH Document 98 Filed 08/28/26 Page 7 of 16 Trump campaign officials appear in public portions of the Report, they retain a privacy interest in ‘avoiding disclosure of the details of the investigation.’”)

“Regardless of the prior disclosure in the forfeiture proceeding, Intervenor retains a privacy interest in potential disclosure of the investigative files sought by Plaintiff”, the document read in part.

“Plaintiff’s motion critiques the FBI’s search efforts, the DEA’s Vaughn Index, segregability, document specific withholdings, and the applicability of exemptions to deceased individuals and confidential sources. All of Plaintiff’s other critiques should be viewed in the context of Plaintiff’s overarching goal.

“Plaintiff’s filings, overwhelmingly, demonstrate that his singular focus is obtaining documents with Intervenor’s “name on them.” (See supra pgs. 1-3, 10, and 11.) Any other issues should – 14 – Case 1:23-cv-01816-BAH Document 98 Filed 08/28/26 Page 15 of 16 not allow Plaintiff to access documents that should otherwise be withheld or redacted under Exemption 7(C) or the Privacy Act.

“If this Court finds that Plaintiff cannot use FOIA to mine information in government files about a private individual, he should not be able to access documents with Intervenor’s “name on them.”

“Conclusion For all the foregoing reasons, Intervenor requests that the Court deny Plaintiff’s motion for summary judgment and allow the redactions or withholdings made by the FBI and DEA to stand”, Tinubu’s legal team further argued.

In a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against transnational organized crime, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the National Central Bureau (NCB-INTERPOL), Lagos Annex, have successfully rescued two foreign nationals lured to Nigeria and held captive by a human trafficking syndicate.

The successful operation followed actionable intelligence received from INTERPOL-NCB, Bogotá, on August 26, 2026, regarding two female citizens of Colombia, identified as Maria Camila Rodas Ortiz and Yuliet Fernanda Rios Mesa. Man Slumps, Dies Inside Commercial Bus In Enugu

A man has reportedly died inside a commercial bus around Old Park, Enugu, after boarding a vehicle heading towards Abakpa.

According to reports circulating on social media, the man had already entered the bus and was waiting for departure when other passengers later discovered that he was unresponsive.

He was subsequently believed to have died before the vehicle left the motor park.

At the time the video was recorded, the man had reportedly not been identified, prompting those at the scene to share his image online in the hope that someone might recognise him and contact his family.

The exact cause of his death has not yet been confirmed.

Anyone who recognises him is encouraged to reach out to his relatives or the appropriate authorities.

64-Year-Old CCC Pastor Beaten To Death During Service In Abuja

A 64-year-old cleric of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), Castle of Mercy Parish, Waru District, Abuja, Ven. Sup. Evang. Onaduja Oluwafemi Gbeminiyi, has been allegedly beaten to death by unidentified hoodlums who stormed the church premises during a mercy service.

The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, while worshippers were gathered for the service, which commenced at about 9am.

According to accounts shared by Celestial Reality Check (CRC-MEDIA), the ass@ilants allegedly went straight to the apartment of the Shepherd-in-Charge, located within the church premises, and forcibly dragged him outside.

The 64-year-old retired soldier reportedly resisted the attackers, resulting in a struggle that lasted several minutes before they eventually overpowered him and inflicted severe inj¥ries on him.

The cleric was said to have screamed and called for help during the attack, but no assistance reportedly arrived before the assa+lants fled the scene.

Neighbours and others subsequently rushed him to a hospital, where he was reportedly confirmed dead a few hours later.

The incident was reported to the FCT Police Command, which has commenced an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible. The church’s assistant shepherd was also reportedly invited for questioning and detained.

His remains were later interred at Gudu Cemetery, Abuja, on Thursday, while a service of songs was held at the church premises.
