It also comes with a large LCD vary-angle touchscreen and 1,037 k-dot resolution, optical Viewfinder for 95% frame coverage. There is also excellent video shooting features; record smooth, highly-detailed Full HD video clips at frame rates of up to 50p/60p with the D5600.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV

What DJI Osmo Mobile 2 ?

If you use your smartphone to take videos and you take images that are quite shaky, you may wish to consider the purchase of a motorized gimbal to make the footage much smoother.

DJI is a company known most for its drones. However, the Osmo Mobile 2 is their second gimbal, created to ensure that all your video footage is smooth at all times. Version 2 utilizes the best attributes of the original model but has reduced the price and made it a lighter weight gadget.

If you’re big on improving your smartphone video quality, then the Osmo Mobile 2, as the best gimbal available, is certainly worth considering as your next purchase.

The DJI Mobile 2 has plenty of pros and only a few cons.

Pros

• It’s light in weight.
• Very smooth stabilization.
• Easily switch between portrait to landscape.

Cons:

• Very fiddly when changing between landscape and portrait.
• Needs a shortcut for swiveling the gimbal a full 180 degrees so you can record selfies through your phone’s rear-facing camera.
• If you wish to change the orientation, you must unlock the phone clamp and rotate it manually. Sometimes you may also need to take the clamp off the phone. There are other smartphone gimbals that allow you to simply press a button and a motor automatically changes the orientation. So, it’s more frustrating to do it with the Osmo Mobile 2.

The design of the DJI Osmo Mobile version 2.

DJI has really played it smart and retained a lot of the original design but they made a few tweaks to improve the first version. Generally speaking, all gimbals are similar in that the smartphone is clamped to the gimbal which is held in your hand. However, the point of difference is the material used to make the device. It’s a modified, high-strength nylon, and one benefit from the original is that it weighs 16 grams less.

While this may seem like a trivial number when it comes to weight reduction, consider the amount of time you would spend holding the device and you’ll be grateful for any reduction in weight. The grip is now contoured to provide a much more ergonomic feel, beneficial when it comes to holding it for long periods.

Most of the controls and buttons are the same as the original:
• A joystick enables you to easily adjust the angle of the camera.
• An easy to use record button.
• A mode/power button that lets you alter the gimbal modes of the camera.
• On the side, you have a zoom rocker, enabling you to adjust the camera’s zoom function.

The Mobile 2 uses a spring-loaded clamp to secure the phone (instead of you having to adjust a screw, as in the original model). The Mobile 2 can be used on phones right through to a phablet size. However, for the larger devices, you’ll likely need to remove the case prior to use.

There’s a major change in the Osmo Mobile 2’s orientation ability. The original only allowed a landscape mode to be used. In previous times, portrait mode would have been regarded as ridiculous BUT, thanks to more modern apps such as Instagram Stories and Snapchat, people want to format videos to suit their platforms.

Another alteration is that the battery is now permanently fixed instead of you replacing it. Usually this is a negative because swapping a battery can easily save your work. However, with the Osmo Mobile 2, one charge will give you approx. 15 hours of life. (9600mAh battery) which is three times more than the five hours on the first version (980mAh battery).

Underneath the Osmo Mobile 2, you’ll find a standard thread so you can connect a tripod if preferred. This is handy if you want to use the moving time-lapse facility. It also has a flat base so the Osmo may be able to stand without assistance but it’s safer to use the screw.

DJI’s Osmo Mobile 2 – Stabilization and app quality.

The Mobile 2 can be paired with your smartphone via Bluetooth for control through the DJI Go companion app. While you can use the default video app on the phone, by using the DJI software, the quality will be much higher in every way.

Using the app means you can access moving hyper lapse and time-lapse features as well as target follow modes. Similar to DJI’s drones, you can target a subject and then the gimbal will lock it in and keep adjusting so it remains in the frame.

If you’re a solo vlogger, Active Track might be useful if you want the Mobile 2 to be still while you move around. It’s handy for locking onto any stationary target and then moving the phone around it. It’s ideal for fast product hands-on videos.

Tracking works consistently except when it came to tricky scenes with minimal contrast or if you’re heavily backlit, making it hard for the software to find you. This is also a typical drone issue.

The zoom rocker can only work with the video recorder so it’s wise to get the optional app as well. Then you can adjust various gimbal settings, alternating between sports and walking modes, tweaking the stabilization. Unlike other gimbals, you can invert these joystick controls.

Apart from the DJI Go app, the Mobile 2 is suitable as a match with FiLMiC Pro app, a more professional video-capturing program. You can take high caliber shots from phones so serious videographers should consider this option.

It does take a little practice to learn the controls of the Osmo Mobile 2 but you have a tutorial to guide you through how to use the controls at the start. Don’t expect to take long continuous shots without some bad angles or shaky pans in the beginning. This means you’ll be doing a lot of editing. The great news is that the Mobile 2 will help you take smooth shots once you have gotten used to handling it properly. It can smooth out walking footage as well.

When used the right way, the Osmo Mobile 2 can give you terrific results. However, the quality of the images will largely depend on the phone itself.

Remember the price has dropped a lot. This is worth repeating because it now undercuts major Chinese manufacturers who previously had undercut the original Osmo Mobile.

No device is 100% perfect but this one does come close, with only minor issues. If you’re considering the purchase of a gimbal, you simply can’t beat the DJI Osmo Mobile 2.

Premium Finish

The basic version of Echo comes with a black coat. The speaker can be found available in fabric covers with grey tones. If you feel like it, you can even purchase it with a walnut or oak finish, or maybe a metallic silver case. The ultimate pricing varies depending on the type of finish chosen.

Audio & Ports

Along with the slot for connecting the Echo with a power source, the backside of speaker houses a 3.5 mm AUX port to link it up with the speakers or any home sound system. In case you want to play music directly from your device with the Echo, the connection is established via Bluetooth. The delivering sound system is a 2.5” woofer and 0.6-inch tweeter. The 7 nos. of far-field microphones are programmed to pick up your vocal commands.

Versatility

For apps and services available on smartphones, Alexa can be used to manage requests linked to music features such as Spotify and Pandora; banking via Capital One; scheduling via Google Calendar, and manage transport services with Uber etc.

Further Services

It is rather obvious that the Echo will be well-compatible with Amazon’s services, which includes audiobooks, Prime Music and buying items through its personal retail services. On the other hand, any workable media options are not available. Moreover, Alexa can’t link up with Google’s Chromecast, yet can control Amazon’s Fire devices. It is good to know that if you ask Echo to play a music, it would oblige with Spotify, which acts as the in-built default audio app.

Amazon Skills

The highly useful Amazon apps are termed Skills by the Company name. Echo comes with more than 15,000 skills built into it – a premium facility found nowhere else in any smart speaker.

Skills are useful when we require the option for connecting to a particular service or a device that is not pre-programmed on Echo. As an example, a newly bought Echo cannot access any Twitter account, or control Roku streaming, or provide with the latest sports updates. Skills for these options are available, making Amazon’s smart speaker more flexible than its competitors are.

The Echo is capable of acting as speakerphone for phone calls and, is recently being used for sending text messages via the Alexa app through an Android.

Amazon Echo Performance

Majority of testing interactions with Echo were done by voice commands, and its seven-microphone feature performed just great in almost every situation. Be it whispering from close or speaking normally about 20-feet distance, Echo had a few problems interpreting commands.

Voice Commands

It, however, have a disadvantage of distinguishing between who was speaking and what was being said when children were used to test its noise tolerance level — a flaw also found in Google’s Home. The same problem was also found to arise when music was played with the Echo at higher volumes.

Audio Quality

Anyhow, the Echo’s audio was quite satisfactory. However, when the music was asked to be raised the performance was nowhere near Google’s Home. It had to be turned immediately to a slightly better level; this implied Google’s Home score over Amazon’s Echo.

Voice Command Response

If a voice command was given, the Echo did not take a long time to carry out the command or give back a response. When something was said to the speaker, the light in the ring would glow up, and a 1-2 sec later, the Alexa would provide with the desired response, which may either be an affirmative acknowledgment or simply to let know that she was doing as told.

Problems with Chain Commands

Unfortunately, Echo was not any good for chain commands. If it was asked to play music and have the volume adjusted in a single uttered sentence, only any one part of the command could be interpreted by Echo.

But it does, however, act well for contextual questions in series. It was asked about George Michael and it gave general information about the artist; then it was followed by the question “when did his album release” to which the correct answer was obtained.

Info Retrieval Feedback

Although Alexa could successfully retrieve information involving a diverse array of topics, it stumbled with the prioritizing of the results. When it was asked to tell us about the movie “Justice League,” the movie released last year, it instead provided us with “Justice League: The Animated Series” & “Justice League Unlimited”,  children’s’ shows that aired in the early 2000s.

Amazon Echo Review Conclusion

If you could just ignore the unsatisfactory audio services, then in addition to being found on a variety of products, Alexa’s ability to work with a multitude of devices and services makes it the most versatile for the users. It is a known fact that Apple at first had the lead with its App Store. But now when it comes to smart speakers it will take the others some time to catch up to Amazon’s Echo.

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY OF THE BEST PHONES OF 2017 : WHO’S WHO??

THE GOOD ONE:

Of all the products listed here, it would be safe to assume that the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is really, really good. It gives the average customer, lump sum convenience on par with its cost than other smartphones. The features of this flagship phone on account of its performance and especially platform OS and battery life deserve special mention.6.2 inches curved infinity display protected by corning Gorilla Glass. At 8 mm thickness, it is one of the slimmest phones available at the moment.  12 MP AF F.17 lens camera with single colour LED flash – a real pro. Extensive battery usage by means of several voice calls, WhatsApp messages and WiFi leave it at a good 30% reading at the end of the day. A real high-end piece of gizmo for the end point user, truly indeed.

THE BAD ONE:

This has to be Google Pixel XL. Notification LED is missing in spite of this being a flagship device. No front firing speaker or physical buttons at the front panel below screen. The improper combination of glass and aluminum at the back is weird. In spite of the hype created by the launching of product, it is a bit disappointing given the brand name is Google. The design is good though- all aluminum unibody with smooth curved edges that blend into sides. Textured metallic power button and smooth metallic volume rocker give good tactile response. Dual LED flash 12 MP camera and 3450 mAh battery give no problem.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

The ugly one certainly goes to Xiaomi Redmi 4. The device is powered by Octa core, 1.4 GHz, Cortex A53 processor with 2 GB RAM. Although it looks better than its predecessor Redmi 3S with its all-metallic finish, the device is not critic satisfactory. The device has been claimed to overheat while charging, a trait not heard much about in other brands. Comparatively smaller screen size with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal memory is not what the consumer is looking for these days. Available in 2 colors only (black and gold), the camera does not feature optical image stabilization or even a flash. The only silver lining about the device is its high ranking battery with 4100 mAh capacity.
