London outfit Mouth Ulcers have today shared their darkened, goth-tinged new single Lady Rust. Coinciding with the announcement of their debut album ‘You’re Not In Heaven’, due April 23rd via LAB Records (Friendly Fires, Basht), the track builds towards a frenetic climax as it's propelled by rumbling basslines and jagged guitar melodies. On their new single, frontman Zak Watson added: “‘Lady Rust’ tells the story about an ancient vampire thatguards the land of a former Manor House. Swedish outfit Gone Future have this week shared details of their debut EP, Signs, ahead of its December 4th release via Stockholm label PNKSLM Recordings. Featuring fellow labelmate ShitKid, the band’s latest offering ‘PIG!!’ delivers another dose of raucous energy, pairing charged-up vocals with a towering wall of sound. “When I wrote these lyrics, I could just hear Åsa’s voice singing them with me,” explains the band’s Nicki Dar. “I hadn’t seen Åsa in years, but I still considered myself a friend of hers, having first met her at the beginning of both our careers, when we played together at a music festival in the summer of 2016. When we got to the venue, she had finished all the beer in her own dressing room and almost all the ones in ours. At first, I was furious. I had met my superior. Giving it just a little more thought, I realised we’d probably be better friends than enemies. I reached out to her with the demo of ‘PIG!!’ and asked if she wanted to come over to our studio and try a verse with me. Luckily, she loved the song and made it 1000 times better with her vocals. Los Angeles-based outfit Dummy (Alex Ewell, Emma Maatman, Nathan O’Dell, Joe Trainor, and Lance Umble) have this week shared N of 1, the final single/video from their new album, do you love the color of the sky?, out Friday via Polyvinyl. "I liked the idea of taking glacial guitar drones and cutting ‘em up into a new context of the jungle inspired drums,” says Trainor of the new single. “To me, so much of the record is like the remixed versions of pop songs you'll never hear." Maatman adds, “‘N of 1’ is a plea to both the proprietors and the more complacent subjects of the ever-encroaching surveillance state. Typically our videos aren’t so direct of a visual representation of the meaning of the song, but I had just gotten it into my head that the zooming action on Street View would go perfectly with the meter and energy of the song, and the rest sort of fell into place after that." It feels like it's been an age since I last featured any music from Marika Hackman, so I'm very excited by today's news that she's made her very welcomed return with new single 33. Taken from False Dogs, her fifth studio album, to be released on 19 February 2027 via Chrysalis Records, the track's rousing instrumentation and cathartic rise gives a blistering introduction to this latest chapter. "33 grapples with the dull ache of nostalgia, the apprehension of the future and the celebration of the moments in between - keep pushing, it’s worth it." Marika shares. Across the album the multi-disciplined instrumentalist plays almost everything herself, from guitars, piano and drums to bass, mandolin and synth. "I think this truly is the first record that I have fully inhabited my creative skin right up to its edges". The official video for 33 was created by JOFI Films and conceptualised with Marika, beautifully captures the push and pull of growing up and time moving on. Take a watch/listen below.

Big Thief Launch 'Big Thief Live Archive'

Following the release of their album Double Infinity last year, Big Thief have announced the unveiling of the Big Thief Live Archive, a new website dedicated to documenting the variety of the band’s live performances. Launching with 10 recordings captured by front-of-house engineer Alice Wilder and monitor engineer Aleda Deroche, and mixed by 4AD’s in-house engineer Fabian Prynn, the archive will expand with a new live recording added on the second Tuesday of every month. Fans will be able to build their own sets, creating playlists of their favourite live takes across the ever growing collection of live shows. In addition, they release a special live performance of one of ‘Incomprehensible (Live at 3Arena, Dublin, Ireland April 29 2026)’ which is available across all streaming services.

The band share, "Dear friends, For the last couple of years we’ve been creating a Big Thief Live Archive website, where you can find full, mixed concerts from the recent and distant past. Every show we play holds a different energy. The songs are always changing and sound different every night, and we spend so much more time on the road than in studios, and so we felt a desire to create something that captures the ever-undulating aliveness of our music through time. In around 2019 we started recording all of our shows. There are 10 shows up right now and we will be adding new ones to the archive on the second Tuesday of every month hopefully forever. It’s all free. We made the website interactive so that you can choose tracks and make your own playlists. Following an astronomical year spent selling out venues up and down the country, London's Tooth are back with their first new material since their acclaimed debut EP, Restless in Bloom. Now signed to Parlophone, the band have today shared ‘Take Me As I Am’ marking an exciting new chapter for the four-piece as they throw everything into its 3 minutes and 34 seconds. “‘Take Me As I Am’ represents a big development in our songwriting from what we did on Restless In Bloom both lyrically and instrumentally,” explains singer Tom Pollock. “On the EP, I’d written lyrics exploring coming of age, young romance and other typical teenage tropes. However, with this song I turned to focus on ideas of identity within my experience of being in a band, where people perhaps feel they know or understand me, despite often feeling like I don’t even know or understand myself. As Halloween fast approaches, Danish singer-songwriter steph, unveils her haunting new single, October 31st. Having previous released music under her full name Stephanie Meincke, the rising artist is back with a dazzling new effort that showcases her soulful prowess as soaring vocals glisten above the track's soft melodies. “I’m very inspired by how, as humans, we keep throwing ourselves headfirst into relationships and into life,even when the chances of getting hurt are so incredibly high,” steph explains, before going on to describe the single: “‘October 31st’ is about a person who has her very own self-destructive Halloween tradition: every year on October 31, she lets herself fall back into the arms of her toxic ex. Today sees London-based producer and multi-instrumentalist duo pecq return with their new single 'freer', released via their own Upcycled Sounds label. Written after a deeply traumatic period, the pair formulated a track to help show grief can connect you, as well as break you. "'freer' is about the point in grief where you become hyper-connected to tiny moments around you and you start finding people you’ve lost ‘dissolved into everything’ - in nature, in the sudden quiet at the end of the night, in the wind on a street corner," the band explain. "The track was written after both of us had a loved one take their own life. In each case, they had also been the person who was our most formative musical influence. Man/Woman/Chainsaw - The Globe Cardiff

An unseasonably hot start to October had The Globe feeling more like the middle of June than autumn, and by the time the evening's support Uncle Junior took to the stage, the sweat had already built. Making their first appearance in Wales, the band delivered a short but snappy set built around the contrast between intense, all-out thrashing guitars and softer, more palatable vocals. With only a recently released debut single under their belt, the experimental, grunge-leaning outfit already showed plenty of promise, weaving heavy riffs and unpredictable melodies into a sound that felt ready to grow. Hopefully, this wouldn’t be their last trip across the border.

As the crowd eagerly awaited the main arrival, it was clear that Man/Woman/Chainsaw's capacity show at last year’s Sŵn Festival had been more than just an indication of things to come. With a critically acclaimed debut album in tow, they returned to the Welsh capital for an even bigger and more ambitious headline performance as they prepared to lock in for another sold out night.

As 50 Cent’s ‘In Da Club’ pumped through the speakers, the band weaved their way through the crowd and onto the stage before launching straight into Only Girl. From there, there was little let-up. Conversation between songs was kept to a minimum and there was barely time to catch a breath as they rattled through material from their recently released album ‘Cannonball’ with a fierce energy.

The Thing and Canyons came next in quick succession, keeping the momentum high with thrashing arrangements that kept the crowd in the palm of their hand. Yet, for all the band’s heavier moments, there was an impressive delicacy to their songwriting too, as they shifted from subdued to full-throttle in a flick of the wrist (pun maybe intended).

That balance came through again on Still Angry, where its raw, cutting lyrics added a more exposed edge to the band’s otherwise frenetic sound. Something Else to Give followed moments later with another shift in tone, further highlighting the breadth of Cannonball without ever disrupting the set’s rhythm. By this point, I was making full use of the occasional puff of air from the handheld fan waved by the person in front, with the heat inside The Globe doing little to dampen the intensity on stage.

As the night neared its end, there were still some big hitters up their sleeve. Ode To Clio came first, its jagged guitars and jittery melodies giving way to violin strings that elevated the track to a whole new level. Nosedive then brought everything crashing together for a suitably chaotic finale, as the band urged the crowd forward to jump in unison. There was even a chainsaw bubble gun and added cowbell for extra effect.

Playing their debut album in its entirety alongside a handful of extras, Man/Woman/Chainsaw brought a welcome unpredictability to their live show. Their unconventional approach and restless energy made for a set that felt refreshingly different, with every shift in pace and texture delivering new twists and turns to an already expansive sound.

By the time they left the stage, it was clear that 'Cannonball' is just the gateway to their unequivocally unique world.

Manchester alt-pop five-piece Marie Franc have shared their lofty new single ‘Wildfires’. Glaswegian singer, songwriter and producer Joesef has returned this week revealing his new single Separate. Produced by Barney Lister (Joy Crookes, Olivia Dean, Obongjayar) and Joesef, the track leaves behind guitars, in return for pulsating synths and smoky dance floor ready basslines, giving us an exciting taste of this latest era. Sharing more about the track he goes on to say, "Separate is about a specific experience where I knew it was probably the last time I'd ever see someone. It’s a strange feeling trying to imagine your life without somebody, who at one point, you couldn't imagine living without. Blossoms have always understood the value of a good hook. Across five albums, the Stockport band have built a world where shimmering guitars, synths and Tom Ogden’s unmistakable vocals can turn even the most ordinary moments into something worth singing about. On Songs From The Wedding Cake, they take that idea further, finding romance in the mundane and humour in the realities of growing older. It’s a lively, disco-centric record that finds the band loosening the ties of their familiar indie sound, without losing sight of what makes them so irresistible.

Their sixth album arrives ten years after their self-titled debut, but there's little sense of a band looking backwards. Instead, it feels like a continuation of the playful songwriting that emerged more prominently on 2024’s Gary, only now viewed through a more domestic lens. The album’s title comes from Stockport Town Hall, where Ogden got married, and its songs are filled with the small details that come with relationships, marriage and everyday life.

Setting the tone, opener Joke About Divorce grows from an infectious bassline, sharp guitar and a chorus that's almost impossible not to join in with. Quintessential Blossoms pop if you will. Rick Astley’s appearance, repeating the song’s central warning, only adds to the sense that the band are having fun with their own premise.

Husband and Meet Me In Love follow with a softer touch, while The Kardashians brings another dose of pop-perfected songwriting. Elsewhere, Additional Driver, featuring Declan McKenna, provides the album’s biggest change of pace, opening with police sirens before settling into a loose, bass-heavy groove.

Guts and Uma Thurman then bring about one of the album’s most enjoyable moments. The former opens with a simple acoustic guitar melody and repeated vocal ‘oohs’ before dropping into a soaring, infectious chorus. The arrangement is deliberately uncomplicated, allowing the chorus to do the heavy lifting when it arrives. It is one of those Blossoms songs that feels immediate from the first listen, built around the kind of refrain that could easily become a live favourite.

Uma Thurman heads in the opposite direction. With its disco-inspired groove, sharp 80's synth stabs and Ogden’s pin-point vocal delivery, it is one of the album’s more polished moments. The band have flirted with danceable sounds throughout their career, but here the influence feels particularly natural, with the rhythm section and synths giving the song a propulsive energy while Ogden remains precise at its centre. An almost natural progression from Gary's 'Nightclub'.

Where Have You Been My Whole Life? then brings the focus back towards the album’s central theme of finding and holding onto love, before The Deep End closes the record with a reflective six-minute finale. Its metaphor of falling into the unknown of love is more straightforward than some of the album’s earlier observations. Its extended instrumental section gives the guitars room to breathe, providing a slow-burn conclusion to an album that spends much of its running time chasing big hooks.

For all the humour, there is a genuine sense of affection running through Songs From The Wedding Cake. Blossoms aren’t trying to turn marriage into something grand or overly sentimental. Instead, they find their material in the small details around it, whether that’s the anxiety behind Joke About Divorce, the simplicity of Husband or the straightforward devotion of Meet Me In Love.

A decade on from their debut, Blossoms still know exactly how to write a chorus. What has changed is the freedom around them. Songs From The Wedding Cake feels less concerned with fitting neatly into the indie-pop world the band helped establish for themselves, and more interested in seeing how far they can push it.

London-via-Paris newcomers Spanish Horses have revealed details of their debut EP, Small Notions, out 27th November via So Young Records. The news coincides with the band’s second single ‘Some People’ offering another glimpse into their kaleidoscopic world where dazzling guitars, fuzzy synths and an infectious knack for songwriting collide. “Small Notions was written to manifest change in our lives, as a means to jump forward and break out,” frontman Tom Onezime says. “The songs were written shortly before the studio sessions, creating an urgency to the sound and a fragility that we really value. Ahead of the release of their second album Cancel Me (I’m Tired), out this Friday October 2nd, Fat Dog enlist the help of a Kim Jong Un impersonator in their latest video as they unveil their final taster, Heart of Darkness. Directed by Ralph Fuller, the clip sees a drunken karaoke session turn cut-throat, as the track’s pulsating melodies and swirling synth notes draw us further into its mesmerising charm. Tomorrow night, Fat Dog will host an album release eve party at London’s Dash the Henge before they dive into an onslaught of instore shows including Kingston’s Circuit on Friday, Rough Trade Bristol on Saturday and London’s Rough Trade East on Sunday. London 4-piece Saint Clair have this week returned with their first new music since July’s debut EP, Something To Be Said, unveiling their elevated new effort, ‘Dreams’. Continuing her pop-perfected return, Rachel Chinouriri has today unveiled her propulsive new single, Broken chair. Taken from her much-anticipated second album, I think I spoke too soon, due for release on Friday 16th October 2026 via Atlas Artists / Parlophone Records, the track opens with an arpeggiated synth line before revealing its pulsating dance-floor ready beat. The song was written in Los Angeles alongside friend and fellow musician Lucy Dacus, of which Rachel shares of their time working together: “I started having these realisations about drinking and partying and all these things and she almost reassured me that I am more than enough just being who I am and what I want to be.” Take a listen below.

Today sees Manchester-based outfit Wyatt sign to Heist or Hit and release their debut single 'Morning', ahead of touring in support of Westside Cowboy. Insatiably catchy, the track’s youthful tones and bright brass sections sit neatly alongside jangling guitars, finding a sweet spot between its country twang and slacker-rock charm. Speaking about how the track was conceived, they explain, “Morning came together really quickly. The initial idea came after we'd played a gig where the guitar amp broke and then we stayed in a weird bnb in bunk beds. The next week we took it to rehearsal and by the end of the rehearsal it was basically the version of it that it is now. Getting the song together that quick made me think we had just got really good at being Wyatt after playing loads over a short time. It isn't trying to be too clever or wild, it's just a song we like to play. You can't go wrong with oohs in a chorus either, so it was satisfying to put them in. Leeds based outfit L’OBJECTIF have made their very welcomed return as the band share their first new music of 2026 with ‘Walking Home (From The City)’. Unfolding through swirling guitars and shimmering synth melodies, the track builds steadily towards a climactic finale that leaves nothing unexplored. Talking about the single in more detail, singer Saul Kane added: “This track is dedicated to my friends, my formative teenage years and the realisation that it is somewhere I can no longer return to. At the time of writing I started to think a lot about those memories from around 16-20, as I experienced them become more sacred and important to me than I could ever really imagine. I’d never really felt a strong yearn for the past before so it was quite an uncomfortable sensation. I think this song has helped me process a lot of things that happened in that period, although I think it was important not to create a solemn musical landscape for the lyrics, as I wanted to demonstrate the elements of energy, life and happiness that those memories will always bring me.” Take a listen below.
