Now, in Windows 10, it has improved so much to a point that the troubleshooting tool actually (finally) helps solving most errors. We can see Microsoft really have done something to improve its tool for users to self repair the common problems in their PC. Unlike most of previous build where we still have to search all over the internet just to find a solution that Windows can easily solve itself.

In this post, we will show you how to use the troubleshoot tool in Windows 10, how to use System File Check to fix system errors, how to run DISM check to repair Windows Update problems, and all sorts of Windows 10 how to fix common errors.

How to Troubleshoot in Windows 10

Windows 10 Troubleshoot is a tool to automatically find and fix a certain selected area of problems you have with your PC.

To run troubleshoot for a certain problem, go to Start menu in Windows 10. Search for Troubleshoot and open it. Select the area in which you are currently facing problem with. Click on Run the troubleshooter to start the troubleshooting process.

The troubleshoot supports internet connections, audio, printer, Windows Update, Bluetooth, workplace connection using DirectAccess, hardware and devices, incoming connection, keyboard, network adapter, power, program compatibility, recording audio, search and indexing, shared folders, video playback, Windows Store apps, and most importantly it can even troubleshoot Blue Screen if you have recently encountered any.

In Windows 11, you can find the troubleshooter via Settings (press Win + i), and navigate to System > Troubleshooter. You can also access to more troubleshooters by selecting Other troubleshooters. A list of most frequently used troubleshooters and those for specific hardware will be shown. How to run System File Check in Windows 10

This is a slightly advanced fix that could do the magic in finding and fixing corrupted system files in your OS. This is especially useful if you have an error that relates to your Windows OS files.

Even if it’s not the OS files that is causing your problem, running SFC will do no harm to your PC. What it actually do is that it will automatically scan for any corrupted or missing system files, and repair or replace them when found.

To run SFC in Windows 10, go to Start menu. Search for Command Prompt. Right-click it and then select Run as administrator. It is very important for CMD to have admin permission as it’s needed to run SFC. In the command prompt, type sfc /scannow and hit Enter.

The file check should start running now. It may take a while. Restart your computer when the scan is done.

How to run DISM check

If you have an issue related to Windows Update, running DISM scan should be able to solve your Windows Update errors.

To run DISM tool, go to Start menu in Windows 10. Type command prompt, right-click it and select Run as administrator. In the command prompt, type the following command.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

DISM which stands for Deployment Image Servicing and Management is a Windows 10 built-in tool to automatically scan and repair any Windows Update error found. It may take up to 30mins for the process to complete. Restart your PC when it’s completed. Run Windows update again.

When you meet a problem, before you try anything else suggested elsewhere, try all the above first. If the above fix works to solve your problem, which in my case they mostly did, it would definitely save you tons of time, energy and possibly your hard earned money.

There are different kinds of crashes being reported in the Rockstar games forum which includes crashing on startup, stuck at the loading screen, crashes randomly where there is no pattern to the crashes, or during specific event such as crashing when your character enter a vehicle and aim with a weapon. Fixes below will not guarantee to fix your problem but they are what the people tested that fixed their GTA 5 crashing problems. Please continue at your own risk.

Re-download GTA 5 and its patches (Gta 5 crashes randomly)

If your GTA 5 crashes on some specific event, or randomly with no pattern to the crashes, it could be due to corrupted game files. This should be the very first thing you should try. Re-download the game and patches from the official and genuine sources (of where you purchase the game from). Make sure to completely uninstall the game before you attempt to re-installing it.

Disable/remove/revert Overclock Settings

This fix is only applicable to those who have previously overclock-ed their computers. This is one of the most surprising findings by the GTA 5 geeks. GTA 5 tends to hog up a huge amount of CPU juice when it’s running, to a point that it will crash when your CPU is overheating (although sometimes it’s not even close to overheating). Well, I know your CPU clocking has probably been tested to work perfectly stable in multiple burn tests, but this is also very much unknown to us because it did fix our crashing problem when we revert our CPU clock to stock value. You may want to try to restore your CPU clock to the default clock and see if it solves the crashing issue.

Try with different GTA 5 patches (GTA 5 Crashes during Story Mode)

If you can apply patches manually, try to apply a patch from an earlier date that you think was the most stable. Whenever a new patch releases, you can certainly see a number of reports about the game crashes. If your GTA 5 started to crash right after applying a certain patch, try to revert it to the previous one.

Make sure GTA 5 Video Memory doesn’t exceed the maximum limit

If your GTA 5 graphic settings is too high that it exceeded the video memory limit, it will cause your graphic card to overheat and thus crashing your GTA V game. The game will also get unstable if your graphic card is not fast enough to render the graphics. Try to reduce the graphic settings and see if it still crashes.

Also, make sure your graphic driver is up to date. Both Nvidia and ATI have released a driver that made especially compatible with GTA 5 a few days after GTA 5 launches on PC.

Set the Landing Page to On (GTA 5 crash when entering vehicle and aim)

The landing page option can be found under Settings, Saving and Startup, Landing Page. If your GTA V is crashing whenever you enter a vehicle and aim, or when there is a character transition across the map, try setting your Landing Page to On. There are many reports about this solving their GTA 5 crashing problems. Make sure to restart the game after applying the changes.

Stay signed into Social Club and leave the launcher running in the background

Some people prefer not to sign in to their social club account and proceed to play the game offline. Well, this has been reported a success in fixing the crashing issue. Try to sign in to the social club before you launch the game and leave the social club window running in the background when you play the game. We have not tested this yet but there are numerous people who fixed their GTA V crashing problem by staying signed into their social club account.

Bluestacks and VMWare

Bluestacks is one of the most widely used Android emulators in the world because of its ease of use. In case if you don’t know what an emulator is, android emulators like Bluestacks are platforms that allows you to simulate the phone’s or tablet’s operating system on your computer without the need of your device. That said, you can run most of the mobile apps on your computer with the help of an emulator. Note: Bluestacks is an android emulator and it only runs android apps but not the iOS ones.

However, you cannot run more than one Bluestack instance in your Windows because it relies on the services in your Windows. Well, if you can run multiple Windows on top of your Windows (we call these virtual machines) and then run Bluestacks on each of your Windows, it is possible to run multiple Bluestacks simultaneously.

This is especially useful if you play games such as clash of clans and have multiple accounts and you want to run them simultaneously.

Things you need to run multiple sessions of Bluestacks

• VMWare Workstation (Preferably the latest version)
• Bluestacks App Player
• Windows Installation Disc

This tutorial is intended for intermediate computer users who know at least a little about Windows Installation and Virtual Machine. If you insist to learn, you will have to do a lot of researching on things you do not know in the instructions below. Please also do this at your own risk (although I doubt there is any risk in creating any kind of virtual machine).

How to Run Multiple Instances of Bluestacks

Firstly, download and install VMware Workstation. Once installed, launch it and then select “create new virtual machine”. Follow the on-screen instruction (the default will be fine) and browse to your Windows Installation directory when asked. It’s not like how we have to manually install the Windows ourselves, VMware has a feature called easy install which helps you to install your Windows automatically without you having to click on anything during the installation.

Once your Virtual Machine is installed, boot it up and install Bluestacks. Then, install and run your desired app.

That’s it. If you need more than one virtual machine, just repeat the steps to create multiple virtual machines.

Things you need to know about running Bluestacks in VMware

Information below is based solely from what we have experimented and may not be correct.

Bluestacks seems to not be able to run on Virtual Machines that runs Microsoft Windows XP and Vista. It is mainly due to the graphic card driver that the VM virtualizes is not supported by Bluestacks. Thus, it will result in either fail installation of Bluestacks or Bluestacks appearing in Black Screen when it runs. The most recommended Windows OS version for virtual machine is Windows 7 (We have not tested Windows 8 yet so we don’t know if it will run as expected).

You will also need to set the Virtual Machine RAM to 2GB or higher in order to install Bluestacks. That said, you will need a decent number of ram to run multiple instances of virtual machine especially if you are to install and use Bluestacks on them. A rough number would be 8gb of ram if you want to run more more than 2 Virtual Machines. There are tweaks to lower the ram requirement during the installation of Bluestacks but that will most likely result in fail to run heavy games such as clash of clans or blue/black screen when running them.

Also, make sure you set your virtual machine to run one processor and one core for a more stable performing Windows. You can learn more about how VMware handle task in the VMware Knowledge Base. You can also use the VMware Optimization Tool (google it) to optimize your Windows performance so that your resources will not be wasted on unnecessary Windows tasks and services such as Windows Firewall, Windows Updates etc that you most likely don’t need in a virtual machine.

With the genuine and original Gmail App, the only things you need to provide is your Gmail account username and password. You can also use the Gmail App in conjunction with any kind of security settings previously set in your Gmail account.

Gmail App for iPhone

By default, there will be a pre-installed Gmail App in most of the latest iOS versions. If in any case you do not have it in your iPhone or iPad, open up AppStore and search for “Gmail“. Tap the Free and then Install to install Gmail App for iOS.

After the installation has completed, open the Gmail app and you will be prompted for your account username and password. Enter as requested and follow the on-screen instruction to complete the Add account process.

If in any case you want to add multiple accounts to your Gmail App, here’s how to do it.

1. To add another Gmail account, launch the Gmail App.
2. Tap on the Menu icon.
3. Tap your Gmail address and then tap on Manage Accounts.
4. Tap Add another account.
5. Enter your Gmail username and password as requested and you will be good to go.

Gmail App for Android

Just like Gmail App for iPhone, Gmail App for Android is installed by default in most Android OS versions such as Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean or KitKat. Well, if that’s not the case, you will have to install it through Google Play Store. Open up Play Store and search for Gmail. Tap Install to begin the installation.

By default, Gmail app for Android will use the Gmail account information currently binded with Play Store (which you’ve already given them when you first lauch your phone) to sign in to Gmail.

To add an additional Gmail account (if you happen to have multiple accounts):

1. Launch the Settings app (the one that usually looks like a Gear icon) from your Android phone.
2. Tap on the Accounts tab. (or look for Accounts section if you’re on an older version of Android OS)
3. Tap on Add account and then select Google.
4. Tap Existing when asked if you want to create a new account.
5. Enter your Gmail account username and password.
6. Continue to follow the on-screen instructions and enter any information as requested.
7. Once it’s done, you will be set to go. Open Gmail app and switch between accounts by tapping the Gmail icon on the upper left side of your screen.

Gmail App for Mac

Before I started writing this post, I quickly did a search on my Macbook and surprisingly there isn’t any Gmail App officially provided by Google.

All that was found are third party email clients and apps such as Mailtab and Airmail. So, in order to use Gmail without going to the Gmail.com web interface from a browser, you will have to know how to configure email clients for Gmail. Here’s a guide for it: Gmail SMTP, POP3, IMAP Server Settings.

If you’re looking for a reliable and free email client for Mac, we recommend Inky, Unibox 1.0 or Airmail.

Gmail App for Windows 8 and 8.1 Desktop

The same goes to Gmail App for Windows. We quickly did a search in the metro App Store and none of the apps that was found is made by Google, which means there isn’t any Gmail app officially provided by Google.

Well, you can choose to use any of these apps found in metro App store. The Pokki’s Gmail for Desktop should be just fine. However, we recommend something more reliable such as Microsoft Outlook 2013, 2010 or Mozilla Thunderbird.

How to sign out of Gmail App

There is no option to sign out your Gmail account from Gmail App on an iPhone, iPad or Android device. If you insist to sign out, you will have to remove your entire account from your device.

To remove your Google account from an iPhone or iPad:

1. Launch the Gmail App.
2. Tap on the Menu icon.
3. Tap on Manage Accounts
4. Tap Edit and then select Remove option.

To remove your Gmail account from your Android phone or tablet:

1. Open the Settings App (usually looks like a Gear icon)
2. Tap on the Accounts tab (or look for the Accounts section if you’re on an older version of Android OS).
3. Select Google and tap on the Google account you want to remove.
4. Tap Remove account to proceed removing your Gmail account.

Gmail IMAP vs POP. Which one to use?

POP and IMAP is what allows you to download emails onto your email clients such Microsoft Outlook so that you can access them from your desktop or mobile devices without having to go to the Gmail.com login from a browser.

If you’re selecting between IMAP or POP, Google encourages you to use IMAP because it is just so much better than POP.

IMAP provides two ways communication between your email client and Gmail. This means that whatever you do on your email client will be synced to Gmail. For example, when you move an email to a folder called “important” from your email client, it will automatically tells Gmail to put a label “important” instantly for that particular email. So, the next time you visit Gmail from Gmail.com, you will see that the particular email is already labeled as “important”. The same goes to every action you perform in your email client including deleting a message, “star” a message, mark as read, etc.

IMAP is also more stable than POP which will sometimes loses emails when downloading them, or even prone to downloading multiple copies of the same email. With two way syncing capability, IMAP is able to avoid such problems by real time synchronizing emails between your email client and Gmail.

Gmail Incoming and Outgoing IMAP, POP3, SMTP Server Settings

You can use these information when configuring your preferred email client for Gmail.

For Incoming IMAP server (Requires SSL)

• imap.gmail.com
• Requires SSL:Yes
• Port: 993

For Outgoing SMTP server (Requires TLS)

• smtp.gmail.com
• Requires SSL: Yes
• Port: 465 or 587
• Requires authentication: Yes
• Use same settings as incoming mail server

• Port: 995
• Requires SSL:Yes

Some email clients may already have preset configurations for Gmail and if that’s the case, you wouldn’t need to enter any of these information.

Important: First, Enable IMAP in your Gmail settings

Before you can start using IMAP or POP in any email client or email app, you will have to first enable IMAP or POP in your Gmail settings from Gmail.com page. To enable IMAP, sign in to Gmail from Gmail.com. Click on the gear button from the upper right corner of the Gmail page, and then click “Settings“. Go to Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab. Check the radio button for Enable IMAP under IMAP Access. If this setting remains disabled, no email client or app will be able to sync any email from your Gmail account.

How to configure Outlook 2013, 2010 or 2007 for Gmail

To configure Microsoft Outlook 2013 for Gmail, run Microsoft Outlook 2013. Click on File and then Add account.

In the “Add account” window, enter information as requested (your name, Gmail address, and password). Click Next when you’re done. Outlook will then process adding account by itself. When it’s done, it will start syncing emails with your Gmail account and you’ll be set to go.

A side note: For some reasons, Gmail blocked my attempt to sign in from Outlook. If you’re receiving the same error as I did, you will need to enable the “Allow less secure Apps” option in order for your email client to process the sign in. If you have 2-steps verification security measure enabled for your Gmail account, this option will not be available unless you disabled it. If you’re seeing this error, Gmail will send you an email about instruction to solve this. Login to your Gmail and read the email for more in-depth instruction regarding this matter.

If you prefer to manually setup Outlook for Gmail, select the Manual setup or additional server types radio button. Enter information as requested. In the incoming and outgoing smtp server column, enter info as shown earlier in this post.

Click on More Settings. Go to “Outgoing Server” tab and tick the outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.

Next, go to Advanced tab and enter the incoming (IMAP or POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) server ports. Select SSL for the encrpted connection type.

Click Next and you’ll be set to go. The setup steps are the same for Microsoft Outlook 2010 and 2007. That’ll be all. Now you can start receiving and sending emails with your Gmail account in Microsoft Outlook 2013.

Instant Image OCR using Capture2Text

Capture2Text is not just an ordinary OCR tool which takes in your image and pour out whatever it scans in a messy bunch of plain texts. Instead, it allows you to directly highlight a portion of your screen, perform an OCR scan and save the results in your clipboard (similar to CTRL-C).

Below is a brief guide on how to use Capture2Text:

1. Download Capture2Text from here.
2. Capture2Text doesn’t need any installation. Extract the downloaded zip file to any folder you prefer. I extracted mine to my desktop.
3. Run the Capture2Text.exe in the folder.
4. Capture2Text will then run in the background. To access to its settings, go to your taskbar, rightclick capture2text icon and select preference.
   
5. From there, you can set your desired hotkeys and other settings.
   
6. Once you’re done, click OK.
7. Open any images and hit “windows key + Q” button (default). Highlight any words you want it to scan. It’ll then be copied right away.
8. To translate them, you will need a translator software which we will explain it later.

Other than just offering its amazing OCR service, Capture2Text is also capable of doing speech recognition which recognize speech directly from your microphone and save the results to your clipboard. Instant Translating directly from your desktop

As for translating the text we get from OCR, it’s entirely up to you on what translator software you want to use. You may just use Google Translate from your browser if you don’t think there’s a need for any software to be installed. Well, if you’re translating texts in a comic manga that appear to be phrase by phrase, you’re going to need a more handy tool such as ggtranslate or dualclip translator. These software allows you to directly translate whatever that is in your clipboard (whatever you’ve copied) with a single click.

DualClip Translator

DualClip Translator is yet another amazing software which lets you translate (using Google Translate engine) any word or phrase you highlighted or copied (or from your clipboard) and show the result in a pop up balloon or window on your desktop.

Well, I prefer to use this because you don’t have to press any hotkey for it to translate your current clipboard. In other words, as soon as you copy a word or a phrase, it will automatically translate them and show the results in its window.

It’s best to use Capture2text along with this translator to achieve instant OCR translating. You wouldn’t even need to press a key for the translator to translate your clipboard. It just translate right away.

Google Translate OCR in Android

Login to Facebook with your Phone number

If you find your email address to be rather hard to type, you can actually login to Facebook with just your phone number. Before you can do that, you will have to add your mobile phone number to your Facebook account.

To do this, first login to Facebook with your email address. Click on the drop down menu from the upper right corner of the Facebook page. Go to Settings, and then Mobile from the left panel. Click on the “Add a Phone” button, and proceed entering your mobile phone number. Facebook will then send you a piece of confirmation code to your mobile phone to verify ownership. Once received, enter the number into the “Already received a confirmation code?” text box and click Confirm.

That’ll be it. You can now login to your Facebook account with your mobile phone number instead of your complicated email address.

Below are several tips on how to better protect your Facebook account against hackers and scammers.

• Check if the Facebook login home page URL is correct and genuine
• Change your password frequently or whenever you suspect that your account has been compromised.
• Always make sure that you have access to the email account which you used to login to Facebook.
• Register your mobile phone with Facebook.
• Enable Facebook two-factor authentication.
• Do not use “Keep me logged in” if you’re on a public computer.
• Make sure your password is strong enough to resist being guessed.

Have Facebook notify you when your account is accessed on a new device

You can set to allow Facebook to notify you (by email, SMS text message, or push notification) when your FB account is accessed from a computer or mobile device that you have never used before.

To enable Facebook login notification, go to Settings, and then Security from the left panel. In the Login Notification column, click on the edit link. Select your preferred notification method and then click Save Changes.

If you are a frequent traveler, you may find this notification to be rather annoying if you always have to login to Facebook on some new computers or devices. If you have faith that no one else is able to access your Facebook account, leave this disabled.

1. Facebook Login Form – If you already have a Facebook account, this is the form that you will use to login to your account. Enter your email address you’ve previously given to Facebook during the sign up process, and your password. Then, press Log in.
2. Facebook Sign Up form – This is the form you will be using if you don’t have a Facebook account yet. Enter details as requested and proceed pressing the Sign Up button to sign up for an account. After signing up, you will no longer need to use this form anymore in the future. Some people tend to mistakenly use this form as the login form.
3. Get Facebook Mobile – By pressing this button and enter your mobile phone number, Facebook will send a text message to your mobile phone with a link to the Facebook App download page or directly to the Facebook login home page welcome screen itself.

This Rollback Graphics Driver tutorial is intended for those who have adequate experience with installing and uninstalling graphics card driver.

Before we begin, please download a copy of your current latest graphics driver as a backup just in case if anything goes wrong. It’s best to keep it in an external media drive such as a USB thumb drive.

Rollback Graphics Driver (Nvidia or ATI) from Device Manager

The easiest way to rollback graphics driver is to do it from the Device Manager in Windows OS. If you’re on Windows 8.1, 8, or 7, go to Start, type “device manager” and launch it. If the device manager cannot be found from the search system, open it from Control Panel > System and Security and then System > Device Manager.

In the device manager window, expand “Display adapters” and then double-click on your graphics card. Go to the “driver” tab, click on the Roll back driver. It will now roll back to a previously installed driver. Sit back and wait for the process to complete itself. Restart your PC, and you’ll be good to go!

“Roll back driver” Grayed Out?”

What if the Roll back driver button is grayed out? Well, it means that your Windows doesn’t have any previously installed driver (Either because it din’t keep a copy of your previous driver, or you’ve never update your graphics driver before). In this case, you will have to uninstall your driver and if you’re with ATI, uninstall catalyst suite too. Then either let Windows Updates to install an older driver for you or you will have to find an older driver yourself. If you encounter blank screen (or perhaps anything else), you may need to restart twice in the process.

If you’re using a very old computer with a very classic graphics card, there may be a slim chance that your computer will never recognize your graphic card and result in blank display. Don’t attempt to do this if you’re with one of those old systems. Again, please do this at your own risk.

Below are several places I recommend searching for old drivers. It’s best to search from their respective official websites before going to any other website.

• http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx – Search for your Nvidia graphics card by its name and model. A list of your drivers including the old ones will be shown and sort by date.
• http://support.amd.com/en-us/download – Search for your ATI graphics card and from the result page click on the “Previous AMD Catalyst Display Drivers” from the right under Helpful Links.
• http://www.oldapps.com/ati.php – One of the most well known old apps collections website.
• http://downloads.guru3d.com – Also a very much famous site for graphics card drivers downloads, discussions, etc.

So, how to uninstall a graphics driver? – Nvidia / ATI

Open Device Manager again, locate your graphics card and double click on it. From the driver tab, click “Uninstall”. PLEASE DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. Chill out and wait for the process to complete itself. Restart your computer. If it shows blank screen, force restart again.

On the next boot, your Windows graphics and resolution may look as it did the first time you installed it. Now, proceed to install the old driver that you’ve downloaded. If you would prefer to let Windows Updates to do its job, run Windows Updates and it’ll update your graphics driver automatically. Well, it doesn’t guarantee that Windows Updates will always give you an older version of graphics driver. Most of the time, the driver will be about a month or two old. It’s always better to download your desired version of graphics driver and install yourself.

Is there any other software to rollback graphics driver automatically?

I wouldn’t recommend using any driver sweeper or cleaner to try to rollback a graphics driver. It can screw up your system if you’re not being careful enough.
