red hill

A friend of mine recently started as the Pastor of a church in North Carolina. He wanted a classic look for a logo redesign that displayed what his church was about at a quick glance. The red hill was initially referring to the clay that is prevalent in the area, but we know better. At Red Hill Baptist, it is Calvary.

Here is what I sent him.

I'm not sure which direction they are headed on the design yet. Any thoughts from you?

John Piper Sermon Manuscripts in Libronix

This is a great add to the libronix tool set! Searchable, noteable, portable, and cross-referenceable. All of John Piper's past sermons at a pretty good deal for the material. His exegesis is great, he uses scripture to explain scripture, and his application is full of uncomfortable, gospel-centered, passionate living. I really like the looks of this.

For myself, I've tried in vain to find his study on certain topics and references using the online search capabilities. I ended up with a hundred unwanted results. This tool should hone in my searches really well.

Irresistible Christ

A lot of people imagine that the doctrine of God's sovereignty has Him somehow forcing people against their wills to believe. Theologians sometimes use the expression "irresistible grace" when they describe the way God brings sinners into the kingdom. Don't think for a moment that there is any kind of violent fervor or coercion involved when God draws people to Christ. Grace doesn't push sinners against their wills toward Christ; it draws them willingly to Him--by first opening their hearts. It enables them to see their sin for what it is and empowers them to despise what they formerly loved. It also equips them to see Christ for who He truly is. Someone whose heart has been opened like that will inevitably find Christ Himself irresistible. That is precisely the meaning of the expression "irresistible grace." That is how God draws sinners to Himself. The Lord simply opened her heart to believe--and she did.

Every Christmas since High School, I've been haunted by an idea my Junior Bible teacher gave us--beg a book for Christmas. Instead of a bunch of other "useless" (as he called it) stuff, ask for things that will serve you in your walk with Christ. He even gave us extra-credit for doing it! This Christmas was beg a book overload. Now, if only my seminary teachers would give me points for raking this stack in. Hah.

I am blessed to have family and friends that cared about me enough to hook me up with this stuff!
