Do not worry

Do not live your daily life worrying about what to eat, drink or wear. Yes, do not worry about these basic things of life because God knows you need them and has made provisions for you. Some will ask, how can I not worry about them when I don't have them? If you worry about these things you can hardly have significant impact or achievement in life. What does this mean? God does not want us to live a rat race and has made provisions for financial freedom and abundance.

When your mind is set on the kingdom purpose then you begin to seek God's kingdom and righteousness because you are not living for just survival. Someone who has to worry about eating, drinking and what to wear has no space for any other thing beyond these things. You however are not to live such basic life. Set your mind on God's kingdom purpose for mankind and God will provide resources to take care of your daily life. The kingdom requires setting your mind on the things above, serving others first regardless of your financial status.

This year and in this decade, change the way you think and do things to develop yourself spiritually, mentally, socially, financially and emotionally. Have goals beyond just eating, drinking and slaying.

God will fight for you

Happy New Year
It's great to be alive and be part of the innovations going on around the world. We love to live in peace without enemies or battles. There are battles that must be fought even when we do not feel like fighting. The good news is that when you see horses and chariots and an army of enemies do not fear. Fear is not of God but the tactic of the enemy. Remember God is with you and he is fighting for you. He will come and save you.

This year you will not be afraid even when you work through the valley of the shadow of death. The Lord will comfort you with his rod and staff. You need not be afraid. He brought you out of Egypt and he will bring you out of this. Stay with God to enjoy victory. Never for once think the Lord has left you to fight all alone. One thing is sure God keeps his promises concerning us.

Law, Grace and Truth

For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

John 1:17 KJV

Moses and Jesus Christ were both mediators between men and God but there was a difference. Moses brought the law from God but Jesus brought grace and truth. Jesus did not abolish the law but came to fulfill it with grace and truth. Man cannot fulfill the demands of the law no matter how hard we try. We will always fall short in one way or another and that is why we need a deep relationship with Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Walking with Jesus is walking in the light and we shall not stumble and because we are in the light, we will have spiritual revelation of what is going on around us here in the physical. We all have this privilege to understand spiritual revelations but some choose to ignore this.

Grace and truth does not protect us from the consequences of our actions but help us to understand the very nature of God and how he reconciles us with himself despite our sinful nature and shortcomings. We do not going on sinning so that grace may abound instead we come to Jesus to help us overcome the deeds of the flesh and walk in the spirit. The truth may hurt but it will also heal. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and Life.

Rich vs Poor

The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
Proverbs 22:7 KJV

This does not sound good when one is poor but do you really want to remain poor and have abundant life? So many times Christians have been held back by religious myth that to be rich is a sin and not of God. I have once had people who told me that poverty is good and that God did not call us to be rich. Yet the same people are trying to be financially free. Poverty is not God’s instrument of dealing with us because if it were true then there is no freedom at all. The poor will always be slaves to the rich as long as the saying that the rich rule over the poor is true. You can’t argue otherwise and win. Some Christians have been misled to think that the moment they are rich then God is not with them or that they are not holy. Money or riches do not change who you are instead it reveals who you truly are.

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. (Ephesians 3:20 KJV) tells us that God wants us to live in abundance.

I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (John 10:10 KJV) also speaks of God’s promise of abundance to his people.

Abundance is good and it is God’s blessing to his people. You simply have to embrace the abundant mindset with which the rich operate and leave the scarcity mindset with which the poor have held themselves bondage to the rich.

If you are a borrower, you will always live in bondage to the lender. Let no debt remain outstanding except the continuing debt to love. If you owe find ways to quickly
offset your debt and become a lender if possible. You need a balanced view of life which means you have to learn to be content at all times and not allow greed to overtake you. For the love of money is the root of all evil. If you are poor accept your position at that time and keep working to get out of poverty because no condition is permanent.

Pa Sydney Elton

Pa Elton, as he was affectionately called, left his native country, England, to come to Nigeria in March 1937, in response to a divine call to be a missionary to Ilesha. Since that time right up to his home call 50 years later, Pa Elton was always at the centre of revival, playing one key role or the other. He discipled a lot of the men who led and still lead the Pentecostal revival in Nigeria. He was part of the on-going revival at Ilesha (Spearheaded by Apostle Joseph Babalola). In the 60's he provided a platform for international evangelists like Gordon Lindsay, T.L. Osborne and others seeking to carry out evangelistic work in Nigeria.

In the 70's, he became the father of the Pentecostal/Charismatic movement that emerged in the nation's campuses; in the 80's up to his passage in Jan. 13, 1987, he concentrated on teaching prophetic truths about the Kingdom of God and the emergence of the end-time overcomer company.

Pa Elton's only child, Mama Ruth Elton following the footsteps of her parents, remains in Nigeria, as a missionary among the middle region of the nation. She’s standing on behalf of her father for the Lifetime Achievement Award at the ECU Reunion Conference 2011.

The ECU is an acronym for the Evangelical Christian Union, one of the foremost and oldest campus fellowships at the Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Nigeria. It is a fellowship reputed in it’s almost fifty (50) years of existence to have produced leaders in almost every sphere of human endeavor – ministry, business, education, corporate and public governance, technology, ICT etc.

Pa S. G. Elton influenced those who shaped that fellowship in her early years. He lived a few kilometers away in Ilesha from the Ile-Ife campus where the fellowship is located. And now, he is being honored even in death, because his legacy endures!

Indeed, “The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.” (Proverbs 10:7) FAME without a NAME is LAME. It does not endure! Solomon, ancient king of Israel put it this way, “A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold.” (Proverbs 22:1)

As leaders, we must not get it wrong! Our mandate is to build an enduring legacy. And the surest way to do that is by pouring our lives in service into other men. Monuments will fall and crumble, wealth and riches will fade but he that lives on in the hearts of other men truly lives! I agree with Edwin Markham, American clergyman of the 19th Century who in effect said that nothing really is worth the making if it does not make the man.

Investing in people is a costly and risky business; in fact it’s plain hard work. But that’s where the real joy and fulfilment in leadership comes from. In the long run, no one will remember you for the number of cars you had or the kind of automobile you drove. They will care less how many countries you visited or the size of your business organization or ministry. Only your deposit in people’s lives is what will endure after all is said and done.

See, “One of the outstanding ironies of history is the utter disregard of ranks and titles in the final judgement men pass on each other,” Samuel Logan Brengle (1860 – 1939) said. “The final estimate of men shows that history cares not an iota for the rank or title a man has borne, or the office he has held, but only the quality of his deeds and the character of his mind and heart,” he concluded.

S. G. Elton had followed in the footsteps of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Paul, the Apostle from Tarsus and many others like them who though may be dead yet their legacies live on through the lives they have touched. They are my heroes and I say, “Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!” (Numbers 23:10)

A mind to work

So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.

Building anything that is worthwhile requires determination and teamwork. Building house, business, family, nation and so on require unity of all those involved in the work without which nothing can ever be built. There will be times some don’t feel like working and there will be opposition from team members and non-team members. They built the wall half-way despite the opposition from people like Sanballat and Tobias. If you keep listening to haters like them who criticize and condemn your work you will never build anything. You go ahead and finish the work all the same.

Get your team to understand the meaning and purpose of the project and you will not need to force them to work until completion. Good leadership is always required in team management. Tap into the capacity of each team member to maximize team strength. Get the team to have a mind to work. A high performing team will get the work done difficult circumstance. Get to work!

Wisdom is better than strength

This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me:

There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it:

Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.

Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.

Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.

Ecclesiastes 9:13-18 KJV

This poor man was wise but had no money. He saved his city but he did not become a celebrity. What would have happened if this man was not there in their city at that time? The answer is simple and clear that city would not even have been recorded here because it would have been remembered no more. We don’t even have a clue as no name was given.

Solomon discovered that wisdom is better than strength and that people come secretly to wise men but will praise men who rule among fools publicly. Wisdom is better than weapons of war but one sinner yes one sinner destroys a lot of good.

Choose to be wise in all your dealings even if people do not sing your praises. Money is also very important in the society but not above wisdom. In all your getting, get understanding. Wisdom is priceless and cannot be bought with money.

You may be afraid that if you are wise and you do not have money people will not celebrate you because you are poor. There is wisdom for wealth available today which you can get through financial education. You need to understand the laws and principles of wealth creation.

Live in peace with all men

We need to learn to pursue peace as much as possible. It may prove difficult sometimes but we just need to learn. There will be situations where we think it is impossible because the other person is proving too difficult or too smart. The truth is we will always have to deal with difficult people because there is no way to avoid it if we will ever make progress.

Moses had to face hard hearted Pharaoh. Pharaoh was not going to let the Israelites go just like that. David faced Goliath, Daniel faced Nebuchadnezzar even Jesus faced the Pharisees and religious leaders until he was crucified. Peace is not the absence of trouble but dealing with the trouble before it deals with you. If you have opportunity to make peace with someone, please by all means do even if it means you may be mocked.

All human relationships have to be managed through effective communication and patience. In marriage, you will learn to say sorry even if you are right in order to make peace. It may be so in business relationship too in order to remain in business. Managing conflict is a vital skill because of human differences that will arise from time to time.

Plant a vineyard

She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

Proverbs 31:16 KJV

You need to have skills to succeed in the marketplace even though you are a Christian. The woman described by Solomon must have caught his attention because of her skill. She was a skilled businesswoman. She considers a field to see if it is worth buying and then goes ahead to plant a vineyard. A vineyard is a plantation of grape-bearing vines, grown mainly for winemaking, but also raisins, table grapes and non-alcoholic grape juice. The science, practice and study of vineyard production is known as viticulture. (Wikipedia)

She bought the field so she could have a harvest of grapes and from it make wine and other by products. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good. Buying and selling has always been the way to create wealth. Wealth creation and accumulation are a major part of God’s kingdom that cannot be ignored because of spirituality. Too many times we confuse wealth to mean that a person is not spiritual enough. It is what the wealth is used for that we should question. The number one skill to wealth creation is the ability to sell. Wealth must be used for the kingdom of God. The power to get wealth is included in the covenant with God.

We were also bought at a price. You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men. (1 Corinthians 7:23) God had to make this spiritual transaction for our sakes. The blood of Jesus atones for our sins so that all men can come freely to God. We no longer need the blood of animals. Therefore, there is power in the blood of Jesus. We worship God in spirit and in truth with gratitude knowing fully well that without him we are nothing. Do not depend on your wealth because it is temporary but store up treasures in heaven where moth and rust cannot destroy, and thieves cannot break in and steal.

When people leave you

Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? Matthew 19:27 KJV Many who don't believe in your vision and leadership will leave you at this point because they do not see the vision and they are not sure what the outcome will be. If you are following a leader and you're not sure what the vision is you may need to be a little patient and not be in a hurry. If you do leave then how many leaders will you have to leave in order to see the big picture? The truth is that when a leader or a movement starts, it is not always in full. The vision is always progressively elaborated. Learn patience and stop seeking validation by numbers only. The disciples were not sure what was in it for them but later they realised this and eventually changed the world even though they were unlearned. There is power in vision and not just instant gratification. As a disciple you need to learn self-discipline and stop jumping around. Leaders, when people leave you or abandon your mission, it is not always about you. Just remember the vision.

Sell everything

Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

Matthew 13:44-46 KJV

If you’re wondering why things are not working for you or why you’re are always hitting a limit and there is no breakthrough then there is something you must do. These parables hold the keys to your #breakthrough. Finding the keys to the kingdom of God gives great joy.

The man found treasure hidden in a field.

You do not find treasure hidden in a field in your comfort zone. You don't find what you are not looking for. That man was always on the look out and kept searching until he found it. It was not luck as some might call it because if it were to be luck, how did he recognise that what he found was a treasure? Treasures are not hidden in the ground in this day and age and you must be able to recognise one when you see it. If you are not out looking for it, you will not recognise it when you see it. You must go out and find it. It is your duty to find it and God will guide your steps because everyone who seeketh findeth.

Out of joy the man went and sold all that he had. Wow! Wait a minute, was that man alright? Yes, he was. He knew the value of what he had found. When you find what you’re looking for place value on it or else it might be taken away from you simply because of your own ignorance. You cannot afford to be ignorant in the scheme of things. Learn all you can and you will be able to spot opportunities where others are seeing only problems.

Why sell everything he had for just one thing? It is the price you have to pay for what you value. Jesus paid the ultimate price for our salvation because he saw the joy before him (Heb 12:3) It was out of joy for our salvation and not out of compulsion. Jesus is at the right hand of God. You must be willing to do the same. No cross no crown. If you have to sell everything, go ahead and do it. Your reluctance to go through with the exchange may be the limiting factor to your breakthrough. Give it all you’ve got. There are no half-hearted measures here. You have to go all in. Step out of your comfort zone. You have to be ready to sell everything to buy the field and own it. Now note that this does not include anything illegal but everything God has given you. There are no shortcuts to the kingdom.

The truth is that there is no money in heaven for money is a tool on the earth. Don’t store up money thinking you will be rich. Money was introduced as a store of value by moving away from the old system of trade by barter. If A had yam and B had rice, they had to decide how to achieve equal measure of what they had and of course that was difficult, but the truth is that they had something of value to give in exchange for what they wanted. Money does not make anyone rich for if it does everybody should be very rich by now. Don’t complain that you don’t have money to buy the field, you should ask how can I buy the field? You must have value. The greatest currency in the world is still INTEGRITY. Once people can trust you then they can trade with you. Some people often come complaining that they don’t have money to start a business. No one came to this world with money and no one will leave with it. Not having money is a good place to discover your value system. Most people who achieved financial freedom never had enough money at the start.

What makes us rich is Value System. You must bring something of value to the table. God is expecting you to present yourself holy and acceptable to him. You are his treasured possession. God wants us to prosper but we must use all that He has given us to serve people then we will be truly rich. Jesus told the rich man to go and sell everything and give to the poor then he can follow him. Whoever wants to be great among you must serve others first and self last.

Peace of mind

Let your faith be firm. Do not waver. Do not be double minded. Fix your eyes on Jesus the author and finisher of your faith.

Guard your heart

Guard your heart. Your heart reflects your thoughts, feelings, desires, will, choices. Out of the abundance of your heart, your mouth will speak.

You won't just allow everything to disturb your heart. Filter what comes in and what goes out with all diligence. This is to protect your life. Guard your heart to guard your life.

Some are not filtering what comes in and goes out of their heart and are swayed by all kind of winds. it is your duty to protect yourself from naysayers so that you may grow into who God destined you to be. Do not delegate this duty to anyone else.

The Real Battle

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Ephesians 6:12 KJV

The mind is the battleground of life. You must win in your mind to win in reality. If you think you've lost then you've lost because you will replay the loss in your mind when fighting the battle. It's deja vu

You are not fighting physical beings in flesh and blood. Don't go fighting people around you as the cause of your problems. Learn to fight principalities, powers, rulers of darkness in this world and spiritual wickedness.

Whether you can see them or not, it does not matter but you must prepare for battle because the battle is real. Jesus had to fight the Devil and his weapon was to first of all know the Scriptures in the right context. Then he maintained a prayer life. Don't ever think you can fight without these weapons.

Watch what you say as well. The tongue holds the power of life and death. Fight the good fight of faith knowing fully well Jesus has won the victory for us. We are more than conquerors.

For those battling depression and suicidal thoughts, the battle begins with your mind. Every time the negative thoughts bombard you, declare the positive and stand on it. Be bold and firm and resist the urge. Jesus came to give us life and to give it abundantly. Reach out to matured minds who can help you. You were born to have dominion and not for the world to have dominion over you.

You are a winner!

Do not give up

Do not give up no matter what. Though things appear so difficult on the outside let your spirit be renewed daily. Our temporsl afflictions prepare us for an eternal weight of glory.

Do not be depressed by the seeming hopelessness all around rise up and speak words of faith to your situation. Lift up your spirit and worship God with thanksgiving. Our hope is in God.

Submit and resist

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7 KJV

Submit to God, resist the devil and the devil shall flee from thee. Submission is to God who has the power over devil is required to overcome the devil. We overcome the devil y the Blood of the Lamb and by the words of our testimony.

Not that the devil won't try to distract you but you must resist him and he will leave you alone. The devil has no hold on you once you submit and resist him and all his tactics. Jesus has overcome the devil and has given us power over him and his agents. Do not live in fear. Live your life to full capacity as God has purposed for you.

Brokenhearted

The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Psalms 34:18 KJV

You're broken in heart when you're truly sorry for your actions and it breaks your heart to do it again.

The penitent heart does not insist on doing what does not please the Lord. The Lord is near them and saves them.

One of the thieves on the cross is a vivid example. While one was still justifying his actions the other was sorry for his actions. He was saved.

Salvation is by grace but not grace to sin. It is grace to do the right thing as it pleases the Lord.

All scripture is inspired by God. The right application thoroughly prepares us for every good work.

Envy and Jealousy

Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?
Proverbs 27:4 KJV

Three friends recently watched one of their friends drown because of envy and jealousy. Everything usually goes on fine as the relationship builds but the moment one party seems to be exceeding expectations of the other party beyond what they can bear then the resentment starts. They will hate you and begin to spite you not because you were evil to them but because you have what they feel that only them should have or have before you and more of it but not you.

Cain killed Abel not because they were not both successful at their chosen professions. God accepted Abel’s offering more than that of Cain. Was that Abel’s fault? Did Abel conspire against Cain? Envy and jealousy had built up slowly before this event and this was the climax of it. Cain resented Abel to the point where he could not even accept God’s counsel but was always ready to strike back at Abel because Abel seemed to have everything in his favour always ahead of Cain. Eventually Cain killed Abel.

Joseph’s brothers sold him because they could not accept him becoming seemingly more important than them. Why should it be small Joseph and not them his older brothers. Envy and jealousy built up slowly as their father Jacob displayed nepotism toward the last born. Jacob bought Joseph a robe that made others envious and many other privileges that Joseph enjoyed. Eventually there was a plot to kill him but somehow he was sold instead of being killed.

Envy and jealousy kill. In some relationships, you will hear if you can’t have her/him then no one else will. Godliness with contentment is great gain. Avoid friends or partners who don’t want your progress. Pray for them but be cautious so that you’re not caught off-guard

Who will you serve?

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord , choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord .
Joshua 24:15 KJV

You always have to make a choice of whom you will serve. Even if you decide not to serve any God, it's still a choice. You cannot remain neutral or on the sidelines. You have to show your passion and love and it doesn't matter what the people say.

As for me and my house we will serve the living God.

Repentance

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
2 Corinthians 7:10 KJV

Sincere repentance leads to salvation. To repent is to completely change one's attitude and to stop doing that we used to do. If you're addicted and you repent of it then you have to overcome the addiction.

Sorrow of the world leads to death because it's halfhearted and it's mere pretence. Pretending to have turned but still indulged in it is not repentance. In the case of whatever addiction, you may experience withdrawal symptoms or relapse but your desire to walk away must be genuine to be totally free.

Gift

Everyone without exception has received a gift from God which must be put to use to serve others. Fan into flame that gift and watch as you become truly unstoppable.

We are good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Give accountability of your stewardship. Let others feel your impact both in words and in deed.

You're praying for them but give them physical things too. Minister to others.

Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 18:19 KJV There is no doubt that there is power in agreement. When two or more agree on anything whatsoever whether good or bad consider it done. Do you remember the Tower of Babel? God had to confuse their language because their agenda was evil and if left to continue it will be mission accomplished. When two people agree to say I do, it’s often till death do us part until they disagree but as long as they agree, there’s nothing stopping them. In business, you will sign many agreements and breach of such could be costly when the judge bangs the gavel. What you need to bear in mind is that God wants us to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace and not of evil. We have seen some people who understand this power of agreement try to use it for evil and ready to kill and destroy anyone who betrays the agreement. In the spiritual, we have a covenant with God that is sealed with the blood of Jesus. Breaking this agreement surely has it’s consequences hence we should be careful how we live. When we live by the spirit and not the flesh then we will understand the will of God to know what to agree on and God shall fulfil it. When my wife and I had a serious life changing issue, we united in prayer and lo and behold, God proved himself faithful in our lives. We understand this power of agreement and unity. God is faithful even when we are faithless, he keeps his own part of the agreement.
