WWE star and Hollywood actor John Cena has revealed that his lack of commitment to acting in the early stages of his career nearly cost him his place in the film industry.

Cena, who has been working in movies for nearly two decades, made his Hollywood debut with The Marine after establishing himself as one of WWE’s biggest stars. However, he admitted that acting was not his main priority when he first entered the film business.

While discussing his latest movie Matchbox: The Movie, Cena described his journey from wrestling to Hollywood as a long learning experience.

Reflecting on his early film projects, the actor admitted that he was not fully committed to acting at the time.

“Those early projects, truth be told, I didn’t have my heart into,” Cena said.

He explained that professional wrestling remained his biggest passion. Traveling around the world and performing in front of large audiences made him feel comfortable, while working on movie sets was a very different experience.

According to Cena, the slower pace of film production was difficult for him to understand when he was starting out. He eventually realised that his attitude toward acting was affecting his career.

“So I got ran out of the movie business for not caring, and that’s justifiably so,” he admitted.

Cena said his approach to filmmaking has changed significantly since those early years. He now has a greater appreciation for the work involved in producing a movie and for the people who contribute behind the scenes.

“I am now super passionate about what I do,” he said.

Looking back on his nearly 20-year journey in Hollywood, Cena considers himself fortunate to have received another opportunity to establish himself as an actor.

“I’m so lucky to be given a second chance,” he added.

Mobile phone dealers in Karachi have handed over 3,386 stolen, snatched, and missing mobile phones to the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) over the past decade, with the devices collectively valued at more than Rs. 285 million.

The phones were detected during routine checks when customers brought new or used devices to dealers for resale. Dealers verified the phones against CPLC records and handed over those reported as stolen, snatched, or missing to the authorities.

The Karachi Electronic Dealers Association (KEDA) also recently submitted another 231 mobile phones to the CPLC. These devices are estimated to be worth around Rs. 5 million and are expected to be returned to their rightful owners who had previously filed complaints.

Under a cooperation mechanism involving KEDA, the CPLC, and local police, mobile dealers are required to check the status of phones before purchasing or reselling them. Devices found in official records as stolen, snatched, or missing are subsequently handed over to law enforcement authorities.

KEDA President Rizwan Irfan said mobile dealers have been following established procedures to prevent suspicious and illegally obtained phones from entering the legitimate resale market.

According to Irfan, dealers inform sellers whenever a device is flagged in the CPLC database. In some cases, individuals have allegedly attempted to sell large numbers of suspicious phones despite being informed about the verification results.

He said dealers and the association have so far detained around 20 such suspects and handed them over to police for further action.

Irfan also highlighted the importance of Karachi’s used mobile phone market, saying it provides business opportunities for traders while allowing consumers to purchase smartphones at comparatively lower prices.

However, he noted that stolen and snatched phones continue to circulate through informal markets. Some such devices are also reportedly smuggled across Pakistan’s borders with Afghanistan and Iran.

The verification system was developed after the government considered restricting the resale of used mobile phones in 2016. Traders subsequently worked with authorities to establish a checking mechanism that allows the second-hand market to operate while helping prevent stolen devices from being resold.

The latest recovery highlights the role of cooperation between mobile dealers, law enforcement agencies, and verification authorities in identifying and recovering stolen mobile phones.

Pakistan Railways is preparing to transfer the operations of four major passenger trains to the private sector during October as part of efforts to improve efficiency and strengthen revenue generation.

The trains included in the outsourcing plan are Millat Express, Awam Express, Mianwali Express, and Karakoram Express.

The decision was discussed during a meeting in Lahore chaired by Federal Minister for Pakistan Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi. The session focused on the department’s operational performance, administrative matters, security, and plans for improving railway services.

During the meeting, the minister instructed railway authorities to enhance security at workshops and railway yards. Officials were directed to install modern CCTV surveillance systems and consider the deployment of private security personnel at sensitive locations.

Abbasi also emphasized the need for advance planning across railway operations to improve transparency, efficiency, and accountability.

The minister ordered action against private vendors whose delays affect the timely delivery of goods. Such vendors are to be blacklisted where necessary.

A strict policy was also announced against the theft of railway scrap and spare parts. Abbasi directed relevant departments and stakeholders to coordinate closely to ensure that the revenue targets for the current financial year are achieved.

Officials were further instructed to return locomotives undergoing maintenance to operational service within their निर्धारित timelines.

The railway minister stressed that the quality of repair and maintenance work must not be compromised. He warned that officials found negligent in carrying out their responsibilities could face legal action.

Abbasi also directed the department to immediately outsource brake and luggage vans under a standardized policy.

Russian authorities have launched an investigation after a laboratory technician at a Siberian research institute died from pneumonia caused by an unidentified infection.

The 28-year-old woman worked at the Irkutsk Research Anti-Plague Institute in Shelekhov, a facility that conducts research on plague and other infectious diseases. Officials confirmed her death last week, but have not yet determined what caused her illness.

Local authorities have introduced precautionary health measures at the medical facility where the woman was treated. Shelekhovsky district Mayor Maxim Modin said the hospital department involved has been placed under quarantine, while some other departments have temporarily stopped admitting or discharging patients.

Russia’s consumer and public health watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, said laboratory testing did not identify microorganisms linked to the technician’s professional activities in the samples collected from her.

Authorities are also investigating people who had recent contact with the woman. Modin said no infectious disease cases had been reported among employees of the anti-plague institute during the 10 days before the announcement.

Unofficial reports have suggested that around 200 people may currently be under observation, although this figure has not been officially confirmed.

An official from the neighboring Buryatia region mentioned plague as one possible explanation for the illness. However, there is currently no confirmation that the woman had plague or that the disease was acquired at the research facility.

Authorities have described the epidemiological situation in Shelekhov and the wider Irkutsk region as stable while testing and contact tracing continue.

Health officials outside Russia are also monitoring the situation and have stressed the importance of providing accurate and timely information as the investigation develops.

The World Health Organization states that plague can be a serious disease, but it is treatable with appropriate antibiotics when diagnosed and treated promptly.

At present, available information does not establish that plague caused the technician’s death, nor does it confirm that her illness originated inside the laboratory. Further testing and investigation will be needed to determine the cause.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Monday continued the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest march, leading the party’s convoy from Karak to Kohat, where participants will stay overnight before resuming their journey.

The PTI has proceeded with the march despite warnings from the federal government, which has said it will not allow gatherings in Islamabad. The party is seeking the release of its founder and former prime minister Imran Khan.

The decision to launch the march followed unsuccessful negotiations between the PTI and the federal government over several issues. The talks reportedly remained deadlocked, particularly over counterterrorism policy and the party’s demand for access to Imran Khan.

The convoy is currently scheduled to move toward Khairabad, near the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border, with the PTI leadership targeting October 8 for reaching the area. Afridi is expected to announce the next course of action there.

After arriving in Kohat’s Lachi area on Monday evening, the chief minister addressed party supporters and urged them to remain patient and prepared for a prolonged political campaign.

Afridi said the movement would require sustained participation rather than exhausting supporters at an early stage. He indicated that the nature of the protest could change after October 8.

He also called on residents of Kohat to participate in large numbers and urged the district to demonstrate strong support for the PTI campaign.

According to the chief minister’s office, Afridi said the convoy would leave for Peshawar from University Chowk at 3pm on Tuesday.

Earlier, while speaking to supporters in Karak, Afridi criticised the federal government’s counterterrorism approach and raised objections to previous military operations and drone attacks.

The KP chief minister also responded to recent comments by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who had criticised his approach during the failed negotiations.

Afridi defended his position on raising security-related concerns involving Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and said discussing the interests of his province should not be considered a sign of political immaturity.

He further argued that decisions made without wider consultation could have consequences for state institutions and the country.

While stressing his commitment to Pakistan, Afridi said his party also respects national symbols and stands for the national anthem. At the same time, he expressed concern that political divisions and hostility could affect how future generations view the country.

The chief minister maintained that PTI was presenting what it considers to be public demands through political means. He also warned that continued tensions could make it increasingly difficult for any leadership to control public sentiment.

Afridi said his party would continue opposing decisions that it believes are harmful to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan or its people, and insisted that future policies should reflect the interests of citizens and young people.

The federal government has revised petroleum prices, increasing the petrol rate by Rs. 0.88 per litre while reducing the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs. 1.88 per litre.

Under the latest notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the new prices will take effect from Tuesday, October 6. Petrol will now be sold at Rs. 393.64 per litre, while high-speed diesel will cost Rs. 397.76 per litre.

The government continues to collect Rs. 114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol. The corresponding tax and duty burden on diesel stands at Rs. 100 per litre.

The latest adjustment comes amid continued fluctuations in international oil markets. Diesel had reached a high of Rs. 520.35 per litre on April 3 after rising from around Rs. 281 per litre following the outbreak of the US-Iran conflict on February 28.

Petrol also reached its highest recent level of Rs. 458.41 per litre on April 3. Its price had started climbing from approximately Rs. 266 per litre during the first week of March.

The government has also introduced fuel conservation measures in response to higher international oil prices and the ongoing situation in the Middle East. These measures include requiring markets to close by 9pm and reducing fuel allocations for official vehicles by 50 percent for three months.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier announced a relief programme for motorcycle users, rickshaws and owners of vehicles with engines up to 800cc. The initiative was aimed at reducing the impact of rising global fuel costs on lower-income and middle-income citizens.

Pakistan also changed its approach to petroleum price revisions earlier this year. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced in July that fuel prices would be determined on a daily basis in response to movements in international oil markets.

Previously, the government had been making regular fuel price adjustments on a weekly basis.

Petrol prices have a direct impact on household budgets because the fuel is widely used by private vehicles, motorcycles, rickshaws and other small modes of transport. Diesel prices are also important for the wider economy as HSD is extensively used by heavy transport, power plants and large generators.

Petrol and HSD remain among the government’s major petroleum revenue sources, with combined monthly sales reaching roughly 700,000 to 800,000 tonnes. In comparison, monthly kerosene demand is estimated at around 10,000 tonnes.

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz fought back from a difficult start to defeat fellow Spaniard Jaume Munar and book his place in the Japan Open final.

The world No. 3 won the semifinal 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 in Tokyo after initially struggling with his serve and allowing Munar to take the opening set.

Alcaraz appeared to be in control at 5-4 in the first set, but a pair of poor service games handed Munar the opportunity to move ahead. The 23-year-old Spaniard responded strongly in the second set, gradually finding his rhythm and forcing the match into a deciding set.

Once in the third set, Alcaraz took complete control. His powerful and accurate shot-making put increasing pressure on Munar, who was unable to maintain the intensity as the match progressed.

The victory puts Alcaraz one win away from claiming his first singles title since returning from a wrist injury.

Alcaraz completed his career Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open in February. He suffered a wrist injury two months later and returned to competitive tennis at the US Open, where he reached the quarter-finals.

He subsequently helped Team Europe win the Laver Cup last month and has continued to build momentum during his Japan Open campaign.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed top-order batter Sahibzada Farhan as Pakistan’s new T20I captain, replacing Agha Salman ahead of the home series against Sri Lanka.

The PCB has also announced Pakistan’s squads for the three-match T20I series and the upcoming ODI tri-series featuring Sri Lanka and England.

Agha Salman has been left out of the T20I squad but remains part of the ODI team. Other players omitted from the T20I squad that represented Pakistan at the T20 World Cup earlier this year include Babar Azam, Mohammad Nawaz, Usman Tariq, Faheem Ashraf and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Arafat Minhas, Imran Randhawa, Maaz Sadaqat, Hasan Nawaz, Naseem Shah and Razaullah have been added to the T20I setup.

Farhan recently led Pakistan at the 20th Asian Games in Japan, where the team won the silver medal. He will now take charge of the national side for the upcoming T20I assignment.

Shaheen Shah Afridi will continue as Pakistan’s ODI captain. The ODI squad includes Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Nawaz, Razaullah and wicketkeeper Saad Baig.

Several players from Pakistan’s previous ODI squad have been left out, including Maaz Sadaqat, Ahmed Daniyal, Abdul Samad, Sahibzada Farhan, Shamyl Hussain and Rohail Nazir.

Sri Lanka have also faced difficult results in recent bilateral series. They lost 2-1 to the West Indies in June and were subsequently beaten 3-0 by England in England.

For Pakistan, the upcoming series will be their first T20I assignment since the T20 World Cup held earlier this year. Their previous home T20I series saw them defeat Australia 3-0.

The Islamabad-Rawalpindi Metrobus service will face temporary suspensions during the Pakistan-Sri Lanka T20I series as authorities implement additional security measures for the visiting cricket teams.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka are scheduled to play three T20I matches at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from October 9 to 13.

According to Metrobus sources, the service operating between Saddar Station in Rawalpindi and Pak Secretariat in Islamabad will be suspended during the movement of the teams.

Several stations will also be temporarily closed around match-related security arrangements. These include Khatm-e-Nabuwwat, IJP Road, and Sixth Road stations.

The restrictions have been imposed on the instructions of the district administration. Although the broader security period has been set from October 4 to November 13, Metrobus operations will not remain suspended continuously throughout these dates.

Sri Lanka has already started sending its delegation to Pakistan ahead of the T20I series. The first group to arrive in Islamabad consists of 13 members, including eight players and five members of the team management.

Among the players who have reached Pakistan are Kusal Mendis, Dasun Shanaka, Maheesh Theekshana, and Eshan Malinga. Other members of the squad and officials are expected to arrive in separate groups before the first match.

The security arrangements could also affect transport operations during the later stages of Pakistan’s home season. Rawalpindi is scheduled to host some matches of the ODI tri-series featuring Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and England, beginning October 18.

The city is also scheduled to host the first Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka from November 9 to 13.

Authorities have not yet announced specific Metrobus suspension timings or detailed alternative transport arrangements for commuters. Passengers using the service are therefore advised to check for operational updates before travelling during match-related periods.
