Banyak orang di luar sana yang penasaran dengan keindahan danau yang satu ini. Dari mana saja mata memandang akan terlihat keelokan danau ini, dan yang paling asyik lagi kalau melihatnya dari ketinggian, misalnya dari “Puncak Thailand”. Wow, amazing.

Lokasi dan Asal Usul Nama

“Puncak Thailand”, mendengar namanya pasti orang berfikir tempat ini benar-benar berada di negara Thailand, atau Puncak Thailand yang ada di Singapura, Hmm…ternyata tidak. “Puncak Thailand” ini berada di sebuah kampung kecil bernama Pulau, Jorong Piliang Bendang, Nagari Simawang Kecamatan Rambatan Kabupaten Tanah Datar Propinsi Sumateta Barat-Indonesia. Tempat ini berjarak kira-kira 3,5 km dari jembatan ombilin arah ke Solok.

Mengapa dinamakan “Puncak Thailand”? Hingga saat ini saya belum menemukan jawaban yang pasti tentang hal tersebut. Mungkin karena tempat ini baru akhir-akhir ini populer, tentunya tak banyak tulisan tentang ini. Ada penulis cari referensi diinternet, jawabannya hampir sama ” Entah dari mana pula nama “Puncak Thailand” ini muncul.

Berdasarkan wawancara saya dengan beberapa teman blogger, bahwa nama asli puncak tersebut adalah “Puncak Pulau”. Menurut salah seorang teman penulis, Sutan Simawang alias Pak Taufik (Kepala Tata Usaha SMA Negeri 2 Rambatan) nama ” Puncak Thailand” diberikan oleh pemuda-pemudi yang berasal dari Jorong Batu Limbak dan Piliang Bendang. Berdasar kabar beritanya, ternyata masyarakat ke dua tempat ini banyak yang merantau ke Malaysia dan Singapura, mereka sering mengunjungi “Puncak Thailand” di Singapura. Kata mereka mirip, cuma di sana tidak ada danaunya. Entah benar entah tidak, sebab penulis belum pernah mengunjungi “Puncak Thailand” yang di Singapura tersebut. Lagi pula penulis baru kali ini mendengar kalau ada nama “Puncak Thailand” di Singapura,ya maklum saja kurang pergaulan. Nggak apalah, sebentar lagi juga mau ke negara tersebut, sambil membuktikan benar atau tidaknya.

Sejarah dan Pemilik

Menurut Sutan Simawang dan Bu Yuhelmi (juga salah seorang teman yang bekerja sebagai staf Tata Usaha SMAN 2 Rambatan) bahwa “Puncak Thailand” dulunya adalah sebuah bukit yang banyak ditumbuhi oleh rerumputan, dan digunakan sebagai tempat gembala ternak. Namun, sekarang tempat ini sudah banyak dijadikan ladang oleh masyarakat pemiliknya. Menurut mereka, ada banyak keluarga sebagai pemilik “Puncak Thailand” ini, seperti Keluarga Pian Jangek, Dt. Muyang Lareh, Dt. Sinaro Nan Putih, Emma, dan masih banyak pemilik bukit tersebut. Dan yang paling jelas yang mendirikan rumah di puncak ini adalah keluarga Pian Jangek.

Karena tempat ini berada di ketinggian, dan tak ada jalan untuk kendaraan menuju “Puncak Thailand” ini, sehingga kendaraan harus ditinggalkan di bawah bukit ini. Bagi kendaraan roda dua disediakan tempar parkir dekat rel kereta api dengan tarif parkir Rp. 5.000 (saat lebaran), Rp 2.000 (hari biasa). Namun penulis baca tulisan seorang pengunjung dari referensi internet, ia membayar Rp2.500. Tentang area dekat rel kereta api sebagai areal parkir, ini jangan kuatir, karena rel ini sudah lama tidak difungsikan lagi. Sedangkan untuk pengunjung yang datang dengan kendaraan roda empat, bisa parkir kendarannya di tepi danau Singkarak dengan tarif yang sama.
