Denim bermuda shorts are everywhere this summer, and for good reason. They give you the ease of shorts with a little more coverage, and they work with more of your wardrobe than you might expect. If you’ve been staring at a pair wondering what to wear with denim bermuda shorts, this post is for you. I pulled together seven outfits, including two from past posts that I keep coming back to, to show just how versatile this one piece really is. Bermuda shorts come in every wash, finish, and fit you can think of, from polished dark denim to distressed light wash. Mine are a light wash with a raw hem, high-waisted, and hit just above the knee, but the styling principles here work regardless of which version you have. Let’s get into it. How to Style Denim Bermuda Shorts with a Blazer This is the combination that surprises people the most, and it’s become one of my favorites. A fitted white tee tucked into the shorts, a black blazer layered over it, a belt to define the waist, and black platform loafers. It reads polished without feeling overdressed, and it works for almost any daytime occasion: lunch, errands, a…

*Guest Contribution Last-minute gifts often get a bad reputation, mostly because they can feel rushed or impersonal. But that doesn’t have to be the case. With the right approach, it’s still possible to choose something that feels relevant to the person and right for the occasion. Here are a few last minute gift ideas that make it easy, especially when time is limited, and they all carry a bit more meaning without needing much effort to organize. 1 – A National Trust Membership A National Trust membership gives someone a year of experiences rather than a single present. You give them access to more than 500 locations across the UK, including historic houses, stately gardens and coastline walks, which means they can plan days out whenever they want. This kind of gift feels thoughtful because it goes beyond the moment. For example, they might spend a Sunday exploring a stately home, then return later in the year to see the gardens in a different season. If you want to make this gift feel even more personal, you could plan your first visit together, so the gift becomes a shared experience. 2 – A Set of Printed Photo Memories Printed photos turn…

Do you have days when you stare into your closet and think, “I have nothing to wear”? This always seems to happen to me after I’ve stayed up late, slept a little longer than I should have, and run behind. Or when the morning has gotten away from me. These are also the days I think I have an outfit planned, but once it’s on, it just doesn’t look right, and then I’m scrambling. It’s not a great way to start the day. So with that in mind, I’m sharing seven easy summer outfit ideas (one for each day of the week) you already have in your closet. How to Style Clothes You Already Have 1 – Blazer, Plain Tee, Shorts When you’re stumped with what to wear, go back to basics. This outfit works because the blazer adds structure to an otherwise casual combination, making it feel elevated without being overdressed. It also works in a relaxed office environment, so it’s a good option if you’re going from errand to lunch to somewhere that requires a little more polish. 2 – Linen Button-Up & White Pants Despite the drawback of wrinkling, I love linen in the summer. Linen button-ups…

If you’ve ever stood in front of your closet in June wondering if your black jeans are off-limits until fall, I’m here to tell you they’re not. Knowing how to make black jeans look summery comes down to three things: fabric, fit, and what you pair them with. Once you have those dialed in, black in summer is just another great outfit. Start with the Right Pair of Black Jeans Not all black jeans are created equal, and this matters most in summer. You want a pair that’s lightweight instead of a stiff, structured denim. Wide-leg or straight-leg silhouettes are your best option because they don’t cling. The leg opening allows air to circulate, which makes a real difference on a warm day. The denim has a slight fade that reads more charcoal than true black, which actually works in your favor in summer. It feels less heavy visually, even in the heat. The Top Is Doing More Work Than You Think When you’re working with an all-black palette, the top has to carry the summer feeling. That means fabric matters as much as style. Linen, cotton gauze, or a relaxed cotton knit will keep the look feeling warm-weather appropriate.…

I am so happy summer is almost here! Since we’re heading into Memorial Day weekend and the unofficial kickoff to summer, I wanted to share some red white and blue Americana outfit ideas that feel stylish, effortless, and comfortable. Perfect for whether you are heading to a backyard barbecue, a parade, or simply relaxing with friends. And because spring weather is hit or miss in Chicago, I have a mix of options, whether it’s warm or chilly. Each of these outfits features one key piece in red, white, or blue that brings the patriotic vibes. These are outfits you can actually wear all summer long, not just on the patriotic holidays. Red, White and Blue Outfits Striped Tee + Denim Shorts You can’t go wrong with a classic striped tee. This one has red, white, and navy stripes and instantly feels festive without trying too hard. I paired it with high-rise denim shorts, white sneakers, and a sporty denim cap. It’s the kind of outfit you can throw on for a morning walk, a picnic in the park, or casual hanging out at home. Striped T-Shirt Dress A t-shirt dress is as easy as it gets, just throw it on…

I’m always excited to start reaching for shorts again when the weather warms up, and, this year I wanted options beyond my default denim. Knowing how to wear shorts without looking too casual comes down to a few simple things, and I think this look is a good example of how to pull it off. Simple Ways to Wear Shorts Without Looking Too Casual Start with the shorts. Not all shorts read the same way. A pleat detail, a clean hem, or a slightly longer inseam can take a basic short and make it feel like an actual outfit. The fabric matters too. Something lightweight but structured will always look more polished than a basic casual short. Pair them with a knit. Open weave sweaters are still very much trending and I can see why. The texture alone adds so much visual interest to an outfit, and they are the perfect spring layer, giving you coverage on a cool morning without feeling heavy by afternoon. The key is keeping the knit relaxed in fit so the whole look stays easy and not overdone. Go ahead and be matchy. I leaned all the way into dusty rose here across the sweater,…

Getting dressed in spring should feel like a relief after months of heavy layers, but somehow it never quite does. You open your closet, everything feels wrong, and you end up reaching for the same things you wore all winter. Learning how to make spring dressing feel easy over 40 starts with having the right tops. Not complicated, not trendy for the sake of it, just tops that look intentional the moment you put them on. I photographed these tops with jeans, but every single one works just as well with shorts, a linen skirt, wide-leg trousers, or whatever you reach for when the weather cooperates. What Makes a Spring Top Actually Work Here is how to make spring dressing feel easy over 40; start with tops that have something going for them. A ruffle, a stripe, a print, an interesting sleeve. Something that makes them feel considered without requiring much from you. 10 Spring Tops Worth Adding to Your Closet Right Now Blue and White Striped Ruffle-Sleeve Shirt A striped shirt is a spring wardrobe staple, and the ruffle sleeve and henly cut is what makes this one worth buying. It elevates the stripe past basic without veering into…

The summer travel season is exciting, but it can also disrupt your usual skincare habits. With a few smart habits and the right essentials, you can stay hydrated, protected and glowing wherever your summer adventures take you. These travel skincare tips will help you care for your skin on the go without overcomplicating your routine. *Guest Contribution Keep Your Routine Simple While Traveling When packing skincare, focus on the basics. A gentle cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen and one reliable treatment product are usually enough to keep your skin balanced. Your skin is the organ that’s constantly interacting with the environment, so travel can further stress it due to changes in the climate and your surroundings. Keeping your routine simple also lowers the chance of irritation, so it’s best to avoid experimenting with unfamiliar products while you’re on vacation.

We love our home. We really do. But if I’m being honest, it has always had one significant drawback: the layout. Our house is boxy, the rooms are small, and entertaining has always felt like a bit of a puzzle. If you have been following along, you know we have been chipping away at this house for years, and this before and after dining room remodel is the next project I’m excited to share. We’ve looked at other homes in the neighborhood here and there, but nothing compares to our lake view. So instead of moving, we keep making it work. The dream has always been to open up the wall between the living room and family room. That wall, unfortunately, houses all of our HVAC, and relocating it would be enormously expensive and would likely steal square footage from another room in the process. So that project stays on the wish list. What we could do was open up the dining room. And that decision led to the most satisfying before and after dining room remodel we have done in this house. Here’s what it looked like before. That standard 40 by 96 inch doorway was doing the space…
