The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has revealed its 2026 class, bringing together a mix of legacy acts and genre-shaping artists whose influence continues to stretch across generations. The announcement aired during a themed episode of American Idol, where this year’s inductees were officially introduced ahead of the November ceremony in Los Angeles.

Eight artists will enter in the performer category, including Sade, Luther Vandross, Wu-Tang Clan, Phil Collins, Oasis, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, and Joy Division/New Order. The group reflects the Hall’s continued effort to recognize a broader range of sounds and cultural impact, with hip-hop and R&B maintaining a strong presence alongside rock mainstays.

Among the most notable additions, Luther Vandross earned recognition following his first nomination, a long-awaited moment for an artist whose voice and songwriting helped define modern R&B. His catalog continues to influence a wide range of performers today. Sade also joins the class, bringing her band’s signature blend of soul and jazz into the Hall after reshaping the sonic direction of popular music in the late 20th century. Wu-Tang Clan’s induction marks another milestone for hip-hop, honoring a collective whose reach extends far beyond music into culture and business.

Additional honorees will be recognized in special categories, expanding the class beyond performers. Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and Fela Kuti are among those receiving the Early Influence Award. Each played a role in shifting the direction of music and culture in distinct ways. Latifah and Lyte helped carve space for women in hip-hop during its early years, while Kuti’s creation of Afrobeat continues to resonate globally. Celia Cruz and Gram Parsons will also be honored in the same category.

The Musical Excellence Award will go to a group of influential figures behind the scenes, including producers and songwriters whose contributions shaped the sound of multiple eras.

This year’s ceremony is set for November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with a broadcast planned in December that will air on ABC and Disney+.
